iTunes on APT or NAS Server?

Hi guys,.

I have a lot of songs and movies that pass through my library in iTunes on my mac. I can't see these on my iPhone except if my mac is running and acts as a server...

It's not ideal for me because I have a little girl who loves gadgets...

On the generation current APT iTunes server can be run to watch family movies, real movies and listen to music? (I use iCloud for music that does not support the movie streaming)

or

An iTunes server can be run on a NAS to access all my music, film?

First of all, I bought near the airport of Apple but it does not support external drives... but supports airplay! As I thought about the AMAZING time capsule, but no airtime!

Someone at - it give me advice please?

Thank you

Hello

I'm afraid that you need a computer to run iTunes and support the necessary protocols. Apple TV cannot be a server, and there is no useful storage space. Runs a NAS file server, but can not run other programs, so that it cannot manage iTunes. An Apple Airport can be configured as a client AirPlay only, so I don't know why you consider. You the best solution would be to move your library to a Mac Mini and configure it as a server of home sharing.

I have a very large iTunes library (28000 + tracks) and move it to a QNAP TS119 nas (disc), so as to add titles to my library my SONOS system can access without the need for my Mac to be marketed.

My question, where should I put on the NAS and what is the best way to transfer files?

When the files are on the NAS I just point itunes to that folder on the NAS Server?

And finally if all goes wrong I can simply point itines in the original file on the Mac.

I have other forms of return such as external hard drives, a time machine WD as well as a sharecentre from D-Link (2 Bay) which I am also faced with.

    Thank you very much.

Moving a library: quick response if you use preferences by default iTunes settings: copy the folder integer iTunes (and to ensure that all of its subfolders and files) intact at the other disk, hold down the option/ALT key to start iTunes and on request to select a library select iTunes Library.itl file in the copied folder.

Or you can move only the media: 12 iTunes for Mac: change where are stored the iTunes files - http://support.apple.com/kb/PH19507

With a NAS you live with some risk. iTunes and NAS not always play well together and there are regular positions here where file locations is stripped completely with use NAS (I think this has something to do with the NAS software).  During an iTunes update can cause complete failure of the library when on a NAS to what NAS manufacturers publish a software update.  If you use the NAS I suggest you use a hard drive regularly to store your library and use the NAS for backup.  If you use the NAS, I would put the entire library on it, not only the multimedia files.

  • transferring files to the slow nas Server

I just bought a new PC (HP Compaq) with Windows 8 and you have a NAS from Synology DS209 server. I joined this as a networkdrive, but it's extremely slow to copy files from the PC to the network (24 Kbps) drive. The two units are wired (no WIFI) directly to the router. With Windows 7, I had NO problem, and I tried with a portable Win7 - no problem.

    Someone knows what to do?

Anti-spyware programs can certainly cause network performance problems.  If a program is the only difference between now and before, then this is probably the cause of the problem.

Fortunately, you have created a restore point before installing each program.  You could install Spybot and restore if he did cause the problem.  Another factor could be if there is another program, such as Norton Internet Security, which also provided spyware protection they could have a conflict.

  • Moving iTunes library to a NAS device for access by a computer windows laptop and a computer mac laptop.

My fiancée has a MacBook Pro and I have a windows PC. We shared a library itunes on his mac, but we are short on space and wish to settle in a NAS. I would like to be able to sync to my iphone via a version of itunes on my windows pc (so I can sync the calendar and contacts with outlook).  He would like to sync his iphone with a version of itunes on his mac, but we want to share a library of music, movie, podcast, photo.  Is it possible that we have a shared itunes accessible by my PC and MAC traffic?

Seems there must be a common thing to want to do but I can't find any literature on this subject.

  • NAS Server esxi local?

    Hi all

I'm kinda new to ESXi, even if I'm running a server with it for a little over a year now. I use a HP Proliant ML350 G6 with a P410i raid (on-board) controller. I'm running a VM Windows Server 2012 R2 I want to use as an IIS server, but also as a file server. For a starter, I had 2 1 TB sata discs I have work in raid 1 (for storage) and 2 300 GB scsi drives in raid 1 (for the OS). When I go into the VM options, I click on add a device and under hard drive I see raw device mapping, but it is grayed out.

I heard that it's a bad idea to use vmdk for storing files (discs virtal) because it may be corrupted on the 2 discs. I was wondering if there is a way to ungray raw device mapping and map of the Bay of Windows server VM 1 TB HARD drive? I heard I could buy a NAS box and plug it in, but I don't want to waste money if I can do this directly from the ESXi.

    Thank you very much!

    > because it may be corrupted on the 2 discs.

Who said this? Both disks are presented to the ESXi hosts as a single logical volume, and the RAID1 is maintained by the controller P410.

I see no reason why you should not create a VMFS data store and use a virtual drive for the file server. Don't forget to leave a free space on the disk on the data store if you want to use snapshots or change the settings of the virtual drive to "independent" persistent in order to exclude the virtual disk snapshots.

BTW. local disks and volumes are not supported in the ROW, so they are filtered by default.

  • ESXi 5, move to other hardware, data on NAS Server store

    Hi, I have an esxi host and virtual machines (including vcenter) are on a NAS which is a qnap. To change the esxi server, there is nothing to do with the qnap, he stayed there. I think the move will be simple, but I want just other opinions if I think I have to do is correct. Here it is;

    On the new server.

    -install esxi

-Configure the networking and other things std

-Configure virtual networks, even as I did in the old server esxi

Stop old esxi (this will stop all my virtual machines)

    New boot esxi Server

connect the data store on the qnap

    start the virtual machines

    set options for start/stop

    Am I missing something?

    Thank you

    Hello

You are on the right track.

    A. install the new esxi

    B mount the NAS box

    C. configure the network

D ensure that you are able to access the data store that has VM

    E. If everything looks good, stop the virtual machine, remove ESXi inventory (old)

    F. browse the data store for a machine virtual and do a right-click on the VMX file and add to the inventory on the new esxi host. Power of the virtual machine.  Follow this for all other virtual machines

    G. once all virtual machines are migrated, shut down the old ESX host and remove the network.

    Cheers :-)

  • Inlet air Time Capsule abandons the NAS server connection

I have problems with my time capsule 2 TB air port when you view the administration of my Netgear Readynas a browser page.  The Admin page may stop working intermittently.  I got then refresh the web page to re-establish the connection.

This happened with any browser of the computer, safari, IE, or Windows 10 Edge and any computer, Mac Book Pro, iPad, IMac, PC and makes no difference if it was wired or wireless.

The only way I could stop the problem from happening is to replace it with an old Netgear R6300v2 router time capsule.

The connection is completely stable with the Netgear router.

Time Capsule firmware is version 7.7.3.

Either way, I had to work with Netgear support for several hours remove the SIN as the problem and to locate the airport as the question time capsule.

Hoping someone has a suggestion on how to get the time capsule works again correctly.

Unfortunately there are no controls to help you.

You can report the problem to apple, but I doubt they will take it seriously.

I think that the issue has to do with the web page tools used by Netgear, which the TC does not include the protocols used.

For now your best bet is to permanently keep your R6300 the main router... but you can plug the inside in Bridge mode TC. Then, create a wireless network and see if the client is connected by wireless (or ethernet) for the TC still has the same problems with the Netgear NAS.

The issue will not, even if it does, the administration... pages the client behind the TC must always be able to use disk space in the NAS without problems. And you can continue to use the TC for Time Machine backups and wireless... Although these two functions you may now push the Netgear router more SIN.

Hi, I'm new on using Server 2012 (or any server operating system). I created a shared folder by using the files and storage, quick profile SMB services. I set the administrator with full access account. I added also a group of users with reading and only execute permissions, the administrator account is not within the group.

I have the drive mapped to my desktop running Windows 7 Home. I use administrator credentials to log on. I try to add files through the mapped drive, but does not have my permission to create or copy files ("you have authorized to perform this action"). I can't that speculate that the problem is caused by the run as account on my desktop do not match those of the server? Any suggestions on fixing this problem?

Note: I created a separate administrator account and a group on the server with a control total and still not able to add or modify files on the network drive,

  • best way to put up a second NETWORK adapter for the data on NAS Server store

I want to add a second NETWORK card if I can get the best possible performance for when I move the data store of the ESXi host to the NAS (which will also have a dual NIC). What is the best way to set up the NETWORK card on the ESXi host to achieve?

PS - I am aware that I am limited to the real network speed of 1 Gbps and conditions and I agree with that (any of the virtual machines are eager resources or production).

SOLVED... I think so. JPM300 got on the right track, but I was still not clear on it so I googled all this involving and finally landed on an iSCSI with MPIO configuration. I ended up as a result of this article (I use a Synology DS415 +, but the steps are pretty universal): How to use iSCSI targets on VMware ESXi with Multipath i/o - SynologyWiki. The article is old but always worked perfectly for me. I checked the two paths/NIC are used simultaneously, but I did not actual test to see if I have 200 MB/s of bandwidth (I've seen 80 MB/s when the cloning of virtual machines to the new iSCSI data store using vmfstools).

I ran into a problem where the second path is not added during the alternating market; I removed the path shown and then was able to add the second path, then the first path again.

    Hope this helps someone.

  • Latest version of iTunes Mac and PC version of library conflicts

I have a few years held of my iTunes library on a NAS server and you are using a PC and a Mac to access the library. When I switched from Mac to PC or PC to Mac program would take a few moments 'update library' and then work normally.

Since the upgrade to the last version 12.4.3 PC and Mac version 12.5.0.158 is no longer, it works and on PC, get an error that the library was created in a newer version and cannot access I can work around this problem using the previous library but drop all changes made in the Mac version.

All the latest versions of OS and Windows, in addition to iTunes installed

Does anyone know if emissions are to be synchronized sometime soon so that they can be used interchangeably as in the past?

I'm 12.4.3.1 iTunes version on my Mac with no available iTunes update. Where did you got the new iTunes? Eve Apple has only available 12.4.3, https://www.apple.com/itunes/download/

  • Copy iTunes library to new computer and NAS configuration as an iTunes server

    Hello

My current setup is a macbook with an external hard drive to the iTunes library. I just bought a new Macbook Pro and am about to transfer my library from anywhere on my new computer. I have a very large iTunes library and I would like to be able to access it from my laptop, iPhone and iPad using Plex, Sonos or similar to primarily play music around my house. I won't have my Macbook Pro on all the time to play the music.

Rather than copy my iTunes through library to my new Macbook Pro, I intend to:

1 copy my current iTunes library to a NAS drive

    2. set the destination folder to iTunes on my new MacBook Pro on the NAS drive

What is the correct procedure? Are there problems that? Does anyone have suggestions better?

Drag the iTunes folder everything from the old computer to the NAS. Launch iTunes on the new computer while holding down the option/alt key and when prompted choose the iTunes Library.itl file in the iTunes on the NAS folder.

The NAS must be on and wake up before from iTunes or the computer will forget the location of the library file and you use the option + method again.

Some like the idea of a SIN to do what you want to do but iTunes and NAS don't do not always play very well together.  Make sure that you keep good backups against the day you post here saying that your iTunes library everything is a mess and you try to play a track and something completely different once. or etc, etc.

I don't know about all of these interfaces you mention.  If you are hosting the music to an iPhone an iPhone can not read directly a NAS and you must have iTunes running to serve the media.

  • Add, change and delete the file "iTunes" on a NAS

I have just said "Apple Support Community" by Apple Support.

The title probably sums up what I'm trying to do. I'm looking for a way to add, change, and delete files on a NAS.

Hardware: MacBook Pro 15, 1 TB of storage, 16 GB memory, OSX El Capitan.

NAS: Qnap TS - 453 has: storage nominally 16 TB, up to about 5 TB.  4 WD 4TB disks in a RAID 5 configuration.

a Vaio WIN10 as well as a smaller MacBook (my wife)

The purpose of the NAS is to provide a backup system for computers and act a server "iTunes."

I acquired the NAS after the death of my WD MyBook live in December 2015 after five years of reading backup and "iTunes" to my computer and the Sonos system.

After two months of 'getting to know you' with the NAS, I finally managed to configure the server "iTunes" and Mirabile Indo-European it works!  I'm just doing the SIN to a back-up for computers.

Now for the question: I am looking for an app (for lack of a better term) that will allow me to add and remove files to and from the NAS "iTunes" folder

My search for a solution so far has indicated that:

    (1) NAS' iTunes folder is not really true Apple iTunes and

    (2) I need something that is DAAP (Digital Audio Access Protocol) friendly, that would allow me to add, change and delete the files.that would allow me to add, edit and delete files.

I'm not looking for something that would synchronize the files iTunes NAS to one of my computers, I am all prepared to do myself if necessary.

If I can't find an application so I use the app 'Brute Force' change my Mac iTunes required records and download again to my NAS.

Why do you need an app to put the files in a folder on the NAS Server?  Make them just above in the Finder.  Maybe I'm missing just your problematic here.  Do you mean add your PEMA files to iTunes? I've never used this file format, but kind of, I would be very surprised if iTunes supported it.

the NAS iTunes folder is not really true Apple iTunes

I don't understand what you're trying to say here.  "Apple iTunes" is an application. Yes, a folder is not an application.

Be warned, we see not few messages from people that use iTunes with a NAS. Often the problems cannot be explained. sometimes just iTunes and NAS disagree togther.

  • iTunes library on NAS shared with every Mac.

Okey, so I saw a lot of info on iTunes on a NAS share and I have read tons and tons of messages without a complete solution.

    So that's what I have today;

    1 Macbook Pro 15 "

    2 Macbook Pro 13 "

1 mini Mac (connected to my Samsung TV and the stereo downstairs)

1 NAS Synology 216 readers to play with 2x3GB

Remote-app on my iOS devices so that I can change the music on the stereo without a computer

Everything is connected to the same WiFi of course

I want to spend my whole library iTunes into ONE on the NAS and then I want to

    (1) in order to access all the music on all computers

2 (a) be able to add more music

    (b) sometimes I need to change the title of a song/album details may change the genre or add words etc.

iTunes on the NAS server is to create.

I compiled all the music in a library on the Macbook pro 15 "and used the following settings in iTunes under Advanced

    -Keep iTunes Media folder organized

-Copy files to iTunes Media folder when adding to library

-Sharing iTUnes library XML with other applications

Also changed genres and all about the songs/albums to make everything as I want

Moved the folder iTunes with everything on the NAS in music/iTunes

And hold the ALT key when starting iTunes and then I choose the music/iTunes and then it took a few minutes and asked if he should copy all files

    so I said yes here.

Now, it seems that I can share all the music on the NAS, but I can't

    1) click a song and change its genres, etc album name when I add the new music

    QUESTIONS

So is it possible that I missed something, so why can't I just edit?

Should I hold the ALT key and the library directly in NAS server folder and let them copy all files on the Mac Mini and the 2 13 "Macbook Pro is as well?

    Anyone who has this problem?
