Joining line Segments

Example.PNG

The line looks like it's connected, but it is not. When I apply the brush effect it becomes disjointed. I want it to be a good shot. Is it possible to join the line segments without having to redraw the race? I ask this question because the line was imported into Illustrator, Flash, there are a lot more and I don't want to redraw all. Thanks in advance for any help.

Bob,

If all goes well, you can:

1. turn off the path, and then drag each set of anchor Points where the brushes are thin;

2 object > path > join.

If you select the batch before 1 + 2 and look in the layers palette, or open the window > Document Info and select the items in the menu drop-down, you should be able to see that there are several paths. the latter indicates the number of points in each selected object.

If do 1 + 2 (or should it be done) does not work, there are probably several Anchor Points at the ends of paths to assemble; the surplus should be deleted.

Or paths can be grouped and should be separated first. found in the layers palette/Document Info.

I paint a simple diamond with one form of rectanlge and multiple line segments.  I've drawn the design, I made sure to connect all segments to the anchor.  When I select all segments and try to join the paths, endpoints or the corners are not smooth.  In other words, some of the end of the segment hanging on the edges...  What I am doing wrong?  Thank you!

I think that the problem is the join tab of stroke of the superior shape. Select all of your paths and in the dash Panel, change the type of corner 'Round Join' or 'Bevel Join', or change the "limit" to something smaller, like 2.

If you need the sharp corner, you will need to make a duplicate of the horizontal line and include it in both sides.

  • Cannot be joined lines when using the line Segment tool

So unfortunately, I've updated to the latest version of Illustrator Cc (V19.2.1). And to my horror, I can no longer draw a line (with the line segment tool) then draw another line, coming from the previous those anchor point. When I try to shoot immediately. He's trying to turn the line rather than create a line joining... anyway to change that or am I stuck with it?

    (Also, I use windows currently..)

I don't know if you can say/see/see in the video, but here's the process that I'm following departure using the line-drawing the line-> > segment trying to draw a line from that anchor point (and that is the question, when I'm doing it automatically, it assumes I want to transform the line)-> changes to the tool selection and clicks on the line to deselect-> goes back and finishes object, repeating the process.

    Help me please... I'm desperate...

It is these new life forms, a few disadvantages too with the rectangle tool, ellipse etc. tool.

to go back to the old behavior

Object > shape > expand the form, do a deed for him, or do what I did a hotkey (Windows 7).

Edit > keyboard shortcuts > Menu commands > object > shape > expand the form , then in the first box to the right click in it, select and press a key on the keyboard, I choose F9, OK and name.

It's an extra step, having to have a finger on the mouse and the other on the keyboard for each line. but I can't think otherwise.

  • Object to fill from line segments

I created an object tree of line segments and it look how I want it to look. I made a composite path. When I fill it, I get weird results. I used the direct fill and that works very well, but I still don't get the sharp edges I'd like to see on the general plan and I feel like there is a more elegant way to go about it. I have attached an image of the tree. The blue circle is the weird filling. The red circle is the sharp edges I want. I got this point using the pen tool, but it is not properly with the rest of the way.

I probably do it all completely wrong, but I'm a little impatient for classes and I learn better through trial and error.

Select your object and in your race Panel increase the angle at a greater number limit

The weird gren or blue fill is probably because your points are not attached. Use the arrow tool digs to select a point and move it, you will see. You can correct using hollow the arrow tool to select only the 2 points, then using object > path > join

  • Create a form of line segments - is it good?

To create a form of line segments, you need to connect them.  But how (a) do you know or check if two line segments are connected? And (b) how you connect them. Of course, there are the join command. The command join at least well informed me that I need to select two open endpoints (or words to that effect).

But here's the gist, how do you choose endpoints of the two segments of line that have been snapped between them, such that they are above the other (and in my opinion aren't really endpoints more)? You do not, at least I don't see any way, the trick is to detach the them, create an artificial ditch, then select the two endpoints (anchor points) with the white arrow points, select object-> path-> Join. I doubt that there are many tutorials that describe this method.

    Is this good?

Select the two units with the direct Selection (white arrow) tool by dragging a box around them and lets merge points in an anchor Cmd/Ctrl-Opt/Alt-Shift-J.

  • Keep not selected (\) line Segment tool

Hello, I use the latest version of Adobe Illustrator CC and can not start a new line with the line of a previous line segment tool.

If I start again from one edge of the line point, move from my line from the line is still selected.

In the previous version of Illustrator od the line was comic and disabled instantly what was allowing me to continue to draw the line on the edges of the first.

Line Segment tool does not include the option 'Keep selected' as the pen or the brush so I can't enable or disable.

someone has an answer how I could get this line automatically disabled after drawing it?

    Thank you

If you choose: display > bounding box (Cmd Shift B (Mac) or Ctrl Shift B (Win)), you can continue shooting without moving the line just created.

  • Line Segment tool does not select the last line! Why? CC 2015

I regularly draw several segments on the right with the line Segment tool, then convert them to a live paint. This often requires that lines are tangent or overlapping. In CC 2015 the last segment of the line remains active and the line segment tool switches to a tool "to rotate/move", by drawing a line tangent or closely placed impossible without '' if. '' How can I disable this 'new' and return to the line Segment tool I like in CS 5? Yes, I am trying to embrace the new, he does not cease of themselves in the way of productivity.

You can not turn it off. Ask us for an option you can disable 'Keep selected', as you can for a brush.

Feature requests are CC 2015 in the Help menu.

  • How to draw a line (with the line segment tool) then draw another line, from those previous anchor point. When I try immediately draw another line on the other anchor lines it try to turn instead.

I'm following a course of basic fundamental illustrator on Lynda. The video of "draw straight lines" is troubling me. They draw a line with the line segment and then draw another line coming out the anchor point at an angle.

Here's where it is troubling me - when I try to drag a line to the anchor point trying to transform the first line, I drew. (the line cursor turns into a selection tool) I can't draw another line connecting the first.

Advice would be great because it's driving crazy me.

    See you soon,.
    Kyle

Yes, it is irritating. You must clear the previous line first. If you want to make sure that both ends are perfectly aligned, start by turning on the guides. If you want two lines to be part of the same way, you should use the tool pen instead.

  • Now shift isn't snapping line when you use the line Segment tool

I could be wrong and it has always been like that, but when I take a shift to rotate a line created by using the line Segment tool turns is more degrees as I thought that it used to. I checked and it works always with the Rectangle tool, but not when I traced a line. Guides and snap to Point are both on.

Is much more annoying when I'm dragging an end point and it will remain at an ideal level of 90 or 45 angle... but nevertheless it remains valid this angle when I paint, just do not change.

    Matt,

    You are not alone.

  • Convert a line segment to a line of pen

I have a problem with several illustrator files that I get from my students. We use Illustrator to cute objects and some students using the line segment tool to create lines. These lines look like simple lines in illustrator, but after importation in our cute (lasermate v5) software, they become rectangular forms. My quenstion is, if there is a tool or a way to convert these forms in individual lines/box lines.

I hope that makes sense, English is not my native language

I have a solution. When I save my file and check the box "keep transparency" all lines remain simple lines.

  • Anchor points of line Segment

I want to draw with the line segment tool.  When I want to add a line segment to another segment of line an anchor usually shows upward I know the lines are intertwined with precision.  For some reason any anchor point is not underlined, and the lines are intertwined with precision.  Do I have to activate this feature somewhere?

    funwithphi,

This looks like a tick toggle view > comments (Ctrl / Cmd + U). You had a mishit keyboard.

  • A question pretty basic pen: what do I do when I let the handles in the wrong place and they interfere with the next line segment I want to do?

What happens to me all the time: I'll be tracked something in AI (CS4, Mac) using the pen tool and I find I left the "handles" in a place that ends up being incompatible with the next line segment I want to do. Generally what happens, is that I made a curve and then I want to do a straight segment, but I can't do it without putting in a strong shot. Like this:

    Screen Shot 2014-10-05 at 8.00.49 AM.png

How do I either stop doing this in the first place or correct when it arrives?

    Mary,

If I (put) understand it, you can just press Alt/Option (so that you are always mousing down) and drag the handle back in the anchor, then let go and click or ClickDrag the next Anchor Point.

View > guides are your friends saying anchor when you are there.

  • Why can't I apply a gradient fill to a line segment?

I created a line segment using the line segment tool. Then I changed the brush in arrow. I select the arrow and and drag the gradient shade I want to the described area to change, but it just turns black. I am able to change the arrow to any solid color, but not gradients. I have attached a photo if this will help. Sorry if this is not clear at all. Any help is appreciated!Screen Shot 2014-06-06 at 3.42.29 PM.png

I would say just to develop the arrow, and then fill, but that's just me.

  • Line segment tool design everywhere - why?

With the help of Illustrator CS6 on a MacBook Pro.  Very strange behavior of the line segment tool - when I click and do slip, I don't get a segment of the place where I started at the point where I finished.  Instead, I get several line segments, each with one end where the then slide began it and the other left ends in a trail that runs through every point I did drag the mouse through.  (It's easier to show than to describe.  (See below.)

The polygon tool works normally.  Therefore, the spiral tool and the pen tool.  But the line segment tool, arc tool, polar grid tool and tool grille rectangular all make this "creeping" effect - very annoying.

How can I stop this from happening?

Here is a picture showing what I mean:

(It's actually a pretty cool effect if that's what I wanted, but it is not.)

That's the problem, Illustrator think you press the tilde key, doesn't matter if you're not or if the key is fine. Apparently something is not very good with the entrance of this key in Illustrator that could be attributed entirely to Illustrator but in any case the diagnosis should be in this direction and Steve's suggestion is a good first step.

  • My line Segment tool does not allow me to draw a horizontal line?

I must have pushed one or the other button, but I don't know which!

I use CS5 and now have a small arrow on my tool (as shown in the picutres) line segment:

    LineSegmentTool.jpg

Since that when I click on update, it just allows me to draw vertical lines, rather than vertical or horizontal.

    Any ideas?

    Thank you in advance!
