KB973688 and KB954430 updates have tried to install for almost two weeks!

August 25, 2010. Dell Vostro 230 (bought in April 2010) running Windows 7 Professional. As part of the automatic update, my PC has attempted to install updates 'important' KB973688 and KB954430. Every night on the switch, the system continues to 'install' <1 of="" 2="">and <2 of="" 2="">sometimes for more than an hour (I've not waited to see what happens when it ends). Therefore, responses to "watching paint dry" next morning of clicks of mouse and messages 'not only respondents' on software (including IE). Trying to close takes forever and then goes into the problem installation of updates again! Today, I noticed since the update history page in the Panel that these two updates KB973688 and KB954430 had the 'Fail' status since August 13, 2010. It doesn't seem to be any advice on the Microsoft Web site. What can I do?
