When Windows checks to see if you have moved your copy of Windows to "another computer", among other things, that his focus on the identification of several strands of material in the computer to see if they are different than when Windows was first installed.  I do not remember the list for now, but I remember that the network card is one of the pieces - and IIRC it is 'valuable' higher than others to reach the conclusion.

Each PC has a unique license code.

It should be on the Tower of the computer itself or in the case of a laptop, often on the bottom of the unit.  If your computer did not come with a code like this, then its probably not a legal license.

  • How can I get the product news/same key code to activate Windows Vista? Label on my computer is dispelled and Toshiba was no help.

Had the new hard drive installed on my computer, so now, two weeks later, the computer tells me that I need to activate Windows with the product key code.  The product key code label is too so I can't read the code.  I called Toshiba for a new or a replacement code, but they told me that I had to back up my hard drive and restore it to the factory settings.  I also tried to find the phone number of support following the instructions on the Microsoft Web site, but I don't get any options, that the instructions say I should.  My computer tells me too that my Windows is not genuine, and my screen and background images of screen saver does not work anymore.

Use a magnifying glass and a strong light and see if you can decipher the worn characters.  There is no trace of the key so if you do not you will need to follow the instructions of Toshiba for restoring your windows with the recovery disk.

  • I need to format the hard drive but don't have the windows vista disc to reinstall, but have had the key code that vista was preinstalled do I have to buy a new drive for vista

I need to format the hard drive but don't have the windows vista disc to reinstall, but have had the key code that vista was preinstalled do I have to buy a new drive for vista

    Hello

    How to reinstall Vista

Contact the manufacturer of the laptop computer and ask them to send you to vista recovery disks to reinstall the operating system back as it was when you bought it

they do it for a nominal cost of $

also ask them if you have a recovery partition on your hard drive to get back to the way you bought

you would normally press F8, F9, F10 or F11 or Alt + F10 or 0 to start to start the recovery process according to the manufacturer

Ask them of the exact key sequence

or borrow a vista microsoft dvd; not a HP, Acer recovery disk etc

Make sure that you borrow the correct 32-bit or 64-bit microsoft dvd to your computer

they contain all versions of vista

This is the product key that determines which version of vista is installed

  • Can I use the Vista key code to activate this Windows 7?

Original title: Windows 7 and key code

I have a Dell laptop that I replaced the drive on. Originally Vista and Windows 7. I reloaded Vista but if I load this https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows7

Can I use the Vista key code to activate this Windows 7?

No, you need the product key for Windows 7, Windows 7 uses its own unique product key. What you can do is to reload the old hard drive, and then try to recover the product key:

Here are four utilities, which can display your product keys if they are still there:
    Belarc Advisor: http://www.belarc.com/free_download.html
(He did a good job of providing a wealth of information.)

  • I don't have my key code for windows. My dealer doesn't have either. How can I retrieve the key code number?

I don't have my key code for windows (registration card was not with the computer when I bought it).  My carrier apparently deleted the key during my computer repair code.  My retailer where I purchased the computer didn't either.  How can I retrieve my key code number?

The Windows product key is usually displayed on the sticker on the underside of the computer.

However, you can also get it by running the Belarc Advisor or the Magic Jellybean Key Finder.

Google for one of those and you will find them.

  • Need to install Windows 7 but the thumbnail is damaged key code and cannot be read

You need to install on the laptop after hardware change. Key code sticker on bottom of laptop is partially damaged and cannot read 3 characters. Help

I that you always use your original hard drive, then you should have a "recovery Partition" and no key code is required to re - install Windows.

Recovery of your computer using "Recovery Partition" of the Manufacture

To get there, start your computer and then pressing the appropriate function key. It can be either F1, F2, F9, F10, F11, F12, DEL or tab key. Check the manual for your make and model.

If your hard drive has failed, you must contact the manufacturer support team and request a "recovery disc" which allows to reinstall Windows 7.

How access/start the recovery process is for the factory listed below.

Acer: Press and hold ALT + F10, as soon as you see the logo

ASUS: Press or press the F9 key as soon as you see the Asus logo.

Dell: Press CTRL + F11 directly after switching on the device

EMachines: hold the Alt key and hold press and release the key F10

HP: Press F11 directly after switching on the device

Samsung: Press the F4 key to the Samsung logo when you turn first.

Toshiba: Press and hold the "0" BEFORE and during the power upward.

  • Complete the installation of Windows 7. Says key code does not.

New hard drive so I had to buy a new windows 7.  The installation is not complete as it says that the key code is wrong.  This is the code that is sent with my bill payment.  Have lost more time on a charge of Apple.   New HDD Hatchi on Toshiba laptop.

If your hard drive has failed and your Tosh was origonally provided with win7 preinstalled that you had failed the recovery disks according to the instructions of Tosh all that you had to do was support Tosh calls asking the recovery disks.

    From whom you purchased win7?

  • reinstalled Windows XP Pro on the new HARD disk, not invited to key code

My Dimension 9200 needed a new HARD drive. Ordered from Dell, installed HD then re-installed Windows XP Pro sp2. I forgot to unplug the media reader, so I had to reinstall it again to get HARD drive letter assignment as C. Added drivers in good condition and just download and install sp3 and all the necessary updates. Now, all that remains is to transfer all the files from the old HD.

Never, I was invited to the WinXP key code. I DO have the Dell OEM disc as well as the installation key code in the original Dell factory. I was wondering if anyone else had the same "problem". I checked under administrative tools and don't see anything that ask you "activation". The only thing that I went off and was invited to provide was the key code when I installed MS Office 2003. When I check in system properties, General, it shows that it is registered to me and some numbers with Dell OEM then more numbers, not the OS key code well.

Anyone can shed some light on this? Thank you

When you use a Dell OEM media on a Dell computer, it checks the BIOS to make sure that it is install on a Dell computer, then it will be activated automatically, using a generic OEM key.  As long as you have the sticker COST/License/Product Key, you have the right to run Windows on this computer.  That's pretty standard for OEM systems.

System properties still shows a 'code', not the actual key.  You can use Magic Jelly Bean to retrieve the key used to activate Windows, but the key, that he will return does not match your COA and cannot be used for manual activation.
