Keyword / metadata automation

I use Lightroom 6 and would like to be able to automate metadata / keyword, subject, author, etc... -in my files. I have all the data in an Excel spreadsheet and used VBA to automate this process using Photoshop CC2014 but, of course, the code does not work with Lightroom. Did anyone done this before? I have a large catalog that need me to start the update and I'd love to him running in the background while I do something else. I did some searching in this forum and in general web searches but can't find anything about Lightroom - maybe it's not possible.

Any ideas? Suggestions?

See list view 1.84 Excel to Lightroom , which has a bonus (IE not supported) VBA addin to write a spreadsheet in Lightroom.

very strange - I've just updated to the last Muse. Make updates to a site. Now my metadata keywords are showing on the page index. I put in <>, did not help. I removed the and they are still appearing! www.mcfoxfoxterriers.com. I re downloaded several times but it's not helping.

  • LR4 - hierarchical keyword metadata reading problem

I am new to LR and LR4. I'm trying to get out, but I found a problem/issue/bug with keywords.

I use hierarchical keywords stored as metadata in my photos. Between the levels of the hierarchy delimiter character is the character ' / '. LR4 recognizes this, when you import photos into the catalog. If the LR4 catalog correctly reflects the hierarchy when importing.

However, I was expecting LR4 also recognize the separator "/" reading the metadata of the files. But it doesn't work. It simply creates a new flat keyword string.

For example, suppose I have a keyword with the hierarchy: events/holiday/Christmas. If I import the photos with the keyword of Christmas, the hierarchy is correctly created in the catalog.

However, if later, I read the form of metadata, a photo that has this keyword, then the LR4 will create a new flat keyword string: "events/holiday/Christmas.

This isn't the desired behavior. Am I missing a setting somewhere in the LR4, or do I have to manually fix all the photos I've read the new metadata of?

    Thank you.

This problem has been fixed in Lightroom 4.1, which is now available.  To download the 4.1 update, go to the Help menu in Lightroom and choose "Check for Updates".

  • CS6 keywords - Collections, bridge of backups etc.

    Hi guys

In order to completely save the bridge database with the entire structure and key words related to each image (so that the XYZ image has all the same settings/keywords/metadata) after having for example completely reinstalled the MacBook (clean installation), it is sufficient to simply drag and drop the/library/Application_Support/Adobe/Bridge CS6 / Collections and Adobe Bridge Keywords.xml is?

What are the best ways to deal with safe information in Bridge to not waste time things relocation after purchasing a new Mac or clean install, having had an accident or...?

    Thank you!

    Bob

As Curt I don't know what's your workflow with export frame.

But for the copy of the library, during the migration to a new update system with clean install or a clean on the new computer installation, it is useful first of all copy the former library of the user in a backup location, but in this case, it is also wise to rename the copied library folder if the system won't make any errors in finding locations and getting confused with several folders of Library.

The most important issues for me are application Caches and Mail support but keeping the lot for a while as the back until you are absolutely sure that everything is in place and running as it should would be my way to go.

But do not copy an entire folder of a former library to a new library. This will cause you problems because the application on the new facility has retained its own parameters. Just compare the content of two files side by side. Be sure to have left the bridge and see what files are in the new and which in the former.

You only need to search for custom settings that you have saved your self. But also be aware that some files are only created after you have used or customization. In particular, a new installation, not all records from your old library. For example, you must start at once Adobe output module before creating its files at this location.

In the case of the output module, you should look at the user templates / boards contact and inherent are your custom lay the parameters stored (even for Media Gallery but I'm not very familiar with this).

It is also possible to overwrite the key file, but my favorite workflow would be to export the list of old and import the list again with the replacement of the existing default keywords help

And even more that I copy the contents of the batch rename collections and parameters (if you have customized settings), but know that collections are only aliases for the original files. If you have a new computer, the changes that an old collection will not be able to find the new location.

Workspaces should also only be copied for the same versions.

Photoshop has retained its screening in the Application support folder.

In basic, be so careful with what to copy and do not replace the files unless you are sure they are the right ones.

  • Keywords lost after (re) installation from an external hard drive

Last weekend, I formatted my HD PC and installed Windows 7 64-bit (previously installed was Vista). Human error was - perhaps - make sure my AppData backup is successful. However, my photo folder was a DHM, and I guess I would be saved anyway.
I ran the import function of my DHM in LR3 (latest version), and everything has gone just find, except that my keywords were missing. Strange thing however, that my lists of keywords and keyword suggestions were complete, but no connected to the photos (except 1!)
So my question is, is there something I have missed (outside my AppData folder) which could be fixed, or I'll have to start re-branding (keywording, metadata as dates etc. were imported as well)?

    Thanks in advance,

    OLE K

When individual images (some but not all in a folder) is missing, click the question mark on the frame of the images in the grid, and navigate to the correct location of the image on your hard drive.

If an exclamation mark appears in addition to a folder in the Control Panel folder right click on this folder and , that is, navigate to the correct location of the folder on your hard drive.

Do this for the file above in the hierarchy which show question marks and all subfolders will be found by LR too, provided that the structure of folders and folder names have not changed.

Question marks appear only when you moved in images / files off LR through your operating system, but also when you rename the files / images outside of LR.

All of these things, moving images / folders, renamaming images / files are better made in LR. This way LR keeps track of its new location / the new name.

  • Image keywords are indexed by google?

If you add keywords/metadata to your images with Bridge CS3, then upload it to your blog can google index? Is it all the same say if this portrait of social media is my keywords? A client asked me if there was anyway I could add copyright to their avatar picture

I don't know whether or not Google indexes embedded metadata and if so which type (EXIF, IPTC, XMP...); She is certainly not index what metadata entry in info file owner of the operating system that does not get embedded in the file itself, but only locally stored in the file system of the OS (this type of metadata is therefore not downloaded to the web server as well as the image file).

You can drag the image to the web page mention you on your desktop, then open in Photoshop to check the content of metadata. Your image contains no keywords, nor copyright data, but it has not integrated the EXIF metadata (the photo was taken with a 24 mm lens on a Nikon D1X in March 2003).

When you save your edited images, either use the "Save as" (not the "save for web") feature or upgrade Photoshop CS4 or CS5 that has now an option to retain all or part of the same metadata in the dialog "save for web & devices." I also recommend to convert your images sRGB web and integrate this profile.

  • Keywords of reimportation of LR catalog files howto

I * just * noticed this and thought I was going to be sick...

My Lightroom Catalog has all my photos in there, but the keyword information is NOT complete.  When I look at the files (DNG, JPG, etc.) in the Finder, I see keywords when I "Get Info."  The problem is when I discover a specific file to compare it to Lightroom, key words not in the LR catalog are removed!

It's terrible behavior and I honestly don't know how long this is past.

Is there a setting in LR automatically trying to "crush" the keyword metadata when I discover a photo (like when he makes overview standard)?

    • More importantly, HOW know LR to RELOAD the file in the catalog (hoping of course that it will refresh keywords)!

Or maybe it's something 'new' with LR 2.6 you can choose to hide things?  I have disabled all the filters and were able to revisit this issue.

    Help!

    Thanks in advance.

You can "Read metadata" for any file that you think could have keywords in the file, but not in the catalog. Just be aware that this overwrites any metadata that you could add, as the catalog and the files got out of sync.

  • Keywording multiple selection problem

I think I discovered a bug with Adobe Bridge CS4 does not write keyword tags to multiple selected files metadata...

Several FIRST brand Canon 1Ds III, files when they are selected, cannot write keywords metadata files when multiple keywords are selected. If I select a batch of RAW files, and then click the check boxes for multiple keywords to apply, only a few of these key words will apply. Some
not even count backwards. I can check it after writing the program by noting a "-" sign the list in the next box to the word, or some of the words, and they are not all the same number of files when I look at the filter window. I must apply a keyword at a time to a select group of RAW files in order to prevent the program to rewrite the correct number of selected files.

All this experience? I am a photographer, and I have some pretty big shoots that I need to keyword only a few small things to the rod before the editing phase.

  • Performance of Lightroom

I use a 2 year iMac, with a library of about 160 000 pictures and make extensive use of keywords / metadata.  While the main images are on a NAS, the catalogue is local.  I wanted to be able to manage my entire catalog in Lightroom allows you to select all images with a keyword for example.

Performace deteriorated to the point that it takes more than 8 hours to download a single memory card 64 GB and even longer if the I add keywords to this point.  Memory use seems OK but CPU is well beyond 100%, usually 120-140% and stays there always. When you use Lightroom the transition from one image to the other can be slow, as is the rendering of the image that brings a pretty poor experience and buckets of frustration.

It would be a shame to have to divide the catalogue as it will ruin my workflow.

Everyone has the same problems and no one knows of a magic solution.

Usually, slowing as it has nothing to do with the size of the catalog. It is an extremely common misperception. If I were to make a list of ten things albums that could cause slowdowns like this, catalog size isn't on the list.

Could give you please the exact version NUMBER of Lightroom, you have (please don't tell me it's up-to-date or that you have the latest version). Also, please indicate your operating system.

    Also, please provide this information:

    • Brand and model of the processor
    • Free space on the hard drive with photos
    • Free space on the hard drive with the catalogues
    • Amount of memory
    • Size in megapixel (not megabytes) the photos you import, and how many of these photos are on the map of 64 GB that you import
    • Enable or disable the GPU acceleration
  • Problems to access the Collections after the migration from PC to Mac

I've migrated Lightroom CC from a PC to a Mac. Everything went very well (all images visible and changes, keywords, metadata, etc.

However, my Collections did not make the trip! When I go to my list of collections (who did migrate) I have a series of vignettes showing that are empty except for an exclamation point and the name of the image file.

Then, I click on that and go to the picture in my new Mac HD. The following messages are displayed when I click on the name of the file:

"The file is already associated with another photo in the catalog. Each file can be associated with a picture.

It seems to me that Lightroom collections there are "represented" images (I keep my same file tree) associate them correctly. However I am stuck and with more 40 000 images I can't really face

    through one by one.

Thanks for any help that can be provided.

    See you soon

Gentlemen, the three of you are awesome! Thank you very much.

I've renamed the initially imported Lrcat &, previews to turn them off and copied into the original Lrcat from my old PC.

  • Find layered TIFF files

Is there a way to find TIFF files in bridge (or another method, maybe scripting Bridge/Photoshop) in layers?

This is come on another forum, where layered TIFF files can be accidentally recorded whereas they should be layered PSD for this workflow.

The best that I could do is use the control bridge to search all metadata excluding the keyword 'Adobe Photoshop Camera Raw' as it appears that in CS6, a flat TIFF contains this sentence in the XMP metadata, while a layered TIFF file is not found. Text layers can be found by using the keyword metadata "layers", however this is not pixel or adjustment layers.

There are alternative options with ExifTool or ImageMagick/GraphicsMagick, but I was looking for a 'standard' Adobe option.

    Any ideas?

This is a bridge script, to place in the folder (preferences-Startup Scripts (reveal my Startup Scripts))

    #target bridge

  • LR sees files but also declare their lack - death of workflow

I tried to be so carefully. That's where all my fooled and fooled dupes issues begin.

I imported the 191 files.  I have keyworded them.  Some are in smart collections.  And then, when I tried to develop one, LF said that was missing.  When I asked LR to find missing files, everyone was displayed with the exclamation point indicating that they were absent.

Now, here's where it gets weird.

As far as I know, they are NOT on my HD, well that are the original cr2 files.  And when I put in place for another import [but do not run], they are gray, which indicates that LR knows they are already in the catalog.

I am sure that any attempt to re - import will quickly degenerate into madness and dupes on dupes.  But now I can't develop an any of them.

How a DNG that both be there and not here?

The Lightroom Catalog is really just a database with two components of main file; the real catalog in Lightroom Catalog.lrcat 5 and contained in Lightroom 5 catalog Previews.lrdata previews. The catalogue consists of entries or lines, for each photo that you import. The key for the row is the name assigned to the photo during import. This could be the name of the file saved on the card memory or something that you assigned during the import process. Other points of the line for a given photo record are think like keywords, metadata, and development-type instructions as well as other attributes which keeps track of Lightroom. But two things that are the key to your particular problem are the reference (pointer) where the photo is located physically and another pointer in the file .lrdata, where previews are stored. For now then, three more critical pieces of information are the name of the file, the location of the file and the location of the preview.

When you start the import process, say you Lightroom, using the Panel on the left side of the screen, from the photos. Then, using the central portion of the screen, select how you want to handle import. Finally, using the right side of the screen, you select the options that Lightroom is to use when importing as rename photos, how to handle suspected duplicates and what keywords/metadata to add or not. Depending on the selected import feature, you can also able to tell Lightroom to store your imported photos.

In your case, you import pictures from memory cards so the choice you have available will be to copy the files from your memory card to a location on your hard disk, copy the files to your memory card to a location on your hard drive after you convert the pictures to the CR2 to DNG format or ADD photos to your catalog, which essentially leaves photos where they were found. When imported, Lightroom will perform the following basic steps during the import:

    (1) read the file on the memory card,

    (2) rename the file if required,

    (3) create a new line in the database (.lrcat file) by using the file name (either original or rename) as the key of

    (4) update the row with the location of the file (by using the name of the folder destination or, if add has been chosen as the import action, the location where the file was found,)

    (5) if necessary, convert the RAW file to DNG,

    (6) save the file to the destination (copy/copy as DNG only),

    (7) to generate the preview and store it in the .lrdata file,

    8) update the row with the location of the preview. and finally

    (9) save the line to the .lrcat file.

This is a very simplified version and there are a lot more things here and the order of things may be different, but, essentially, it's what needs to happen in order to get what you see when you start Lightroom and your catalogue of a collection of photos on a memory card. Since Lightroom really can't 'see' your photo, it can only do and guess based on attributes of file as to whether it is a suspected duplicate. Most likely, Lightroom uses a combination of file attributes and EXIF of the decision, so it may not always be right. My experience is that Lightroom is more likely to miss a file duplicate rather than to mark something as a double when it is not.

During the import of the. CR2 files was done, Lightroom saves a place for them. The badge of exclamation is way to Lightroom to indicate that the location saved for a photo in the catalog is currently not available. Not that it does not exist, but cannot be found at this time. The two main reasons for this is a file that has been moved using the OS or it has been stored on the storage media is not currently available. This could be an external connection USB HD that is not currently connected, an attachment network HD (NAS device) that is offline or a memory card. If you select ADD as the import function, you do not get to perform a name change and will be not copied files. Lightroom will store the drive letter/name of the device and any folder information in the catalog as the location of this file.

As suggested, use the operating system (is it on a Mac or a PC?) and search for one of the missing photos. If, after searching for all internal disks, you still cannot locate, check your memory cards. Another thing to check is your files Panel (left side of the screen of the library). Select a photo and look at the Panel. If the context you click on a photo, you can select the go to folder item in the library (if available). Once you have the name of the folder, you can click on the folder context. There are two options that you will want to use; show parent folder and subfolders. Continue to go to the top of the tree, displaying each parent folder until you get to the top. At this point, look to the left of the name (a drive letter in Windows) or a Mac drive name. There should be a small green rectangle to be displayed. If not, this means that the drive is offline (could be a distance HD or a memory card). To enable this device, you must connect. A Mac is a bit more smart about it that a PC from the Mac uses the name of the device. A PC will use a drive letter, but you can not always get the same drive letter the next time you plug in your player. I thought I remember reading that you have received a message from "full House" at some point, so there is a good chance that the photos went on a memory card by mistake.

Once you find the missing photos, use the files Panel in Lightroom to COPY photos from the memory card to a location of your choice on your HD via Lightroom will keep the updated catalog. Without locate missing photos, it will be difficult to solve.

  • Keep the name of original when file rename and convert to DNG

In LR 2.6 when I imported my (RAW) images, I would incorporate keeping the original file number, so I would like to batch rename and convert to DNG, once they were already in my catalog.  As I draw from stock, I keep a meticulous care the registry of what I shoot for purposes of metadata and keywords.  I noticed that when I upgraded LR 3, my in my existing catalogs/folders, the original file names are gone and just the new personalized name & sequencing appear. Unfortunately, I still have the Word key & metadata tag many images, but the original numbering in the camera is now missing.  With my new whatever I did to preserve the original numbering, is to import, make my keywords/metadata, and then rename a batch.  However, having to go back is pain, when in the former is LR was easier.  Maybe someone out there knows how to keep both.  It's just easier to check my notes when I have the original of the image number.  Any tips/ideas/suggestions?

What means Jeff are the display options in the metadata panel here:

I import, rename and then convert to DNG and as you can see wear the camera file name in the field of origin.

I don't know why I want as I back up after the name change.

Lightroom can not find the new location of photos installs under Windows. Just not a feature of this program. Therefore, you are better off to make the journey in LR.

I don't know what tutorials you watch, but as I said, the location of files that have been moved in Windows is not a feature/capability of Lightroom. You have to point Lightroom to the new location of the photo, or better yet, place the photo in LR. Or, better still, not to move photos from one folder to another, rather to browse your photos in Lightroom, using keywords, metadata, and collections (rather than folders) as a method of organization.

Yes, each CV can have its own unique set of keywords, metadata, develop adjustments, cultures, etc. etc.

Note that a virtual copy is not an existing file until export you it from Lightroom, at which point it can be saved as PSD, JPEG, TIFF or DNG. Prior to export, the VC exists only in the catalogue
