Kickstart fails on ZBook17

I try to install CEntos 5.2 on a brand new ZBook17 which has an SSD.  Intel RST becomes

the way and the anaconda crashes messages:

Sie: version of untested 1.3.00 available metadata on/dev/sdb

Sie: version of untested 1.3.00 available metadata on/dev/sda

I disabled raid in the BIOS but nothing helped.  Is anyway to get the kernel to ignore

paths multiple stuff?

The elite group of support, said that the only solution was to make a clear safe (2 hours) in the BIOS.

It worked.

  • Automated kickstart install fails with no file or directory; ' / tardisks/net_qlcn.v00 '

I try to install ESXi 5.5u2 via kickstart on an ISO. I added the CF and Eth drivers for the card to ISO using imagebuilder, and moves very well. If I then try to change the ISO with the kickstart file, updated the boot.cfg and isolinux.cfg, the installation will fail with the above error.

    Work:

ESXi vanilla ISO, mount iso, install copy files to the directory add ks.tgz, boot.cfg, isolinux.cfg to the directory, create iso using genisoimage. Kickstart unattended installation.

    Work:

ImageBuilder ISO with drivers 8242, interactive installation

    Does not:

ImageBuilder iso, copy the Directory installation files, add ks.tgz, boot.cfg, isolinux.cfg to the directory, create iso using genisoimage. Kickstart unattended installation.

Once the installation fails I can go down the directory tree and confirm that there are no net_qlcn.v00 in /tardisks.

Andreas Peetz seems to have this problem with its gui customizer, but I think not that the fix posted by glroman apply here. =(

At this point, it seems that the installer is not extracting the net_qlcn.v00 for some reason any

Found the problem: my generation process used the same boot.cfg for each generation, rather than pull the boot.cfg out of the norm iso source and changes before the reconstruction of the iso.

  • Running VMware Kickstart scripts fail

I have a Linux virtual machine vmware workstation I use to run scripts to set up a USB drive as bootable vmware installation media. This works as expected.

When I do the same thing via a c# Windows forms project, the startup scripts specified to Setup vmware seems to fail. The newspapers that I'm supposed to recover via KS. CFG get never recovered, % firstboot always runs on every boot and no orders in KS. CFG never get through. Everything else works. VMWare Setup is started through Syslinux, it seems to install, /var/log/weasel.log brings nothing new. I am of ideas what could have been a lot of troubleshooting. Anyone here have any suggestions on where I should look or why running startup scripts to fail? I added sleep 30 after firstboot directive % one before running the command to restart at the end of the % firstboot section.

I did two things to solve this problem. I do not know why the error occurred creating the installation program in an environment and not in the other, but here is what fixed it:

    1. in KS.cfg:

    If [d ' / vmfs/volumes/NO NAME / "]; then

    USBDIRECTORY = ' / vmfs/volumes/NO NAME. "

    on the other

    USBDIRECTORY = ' / vmfs/volumes/CONFIG ".

    FI

ECHO "decided to use $USBDIRECTORY as the path to the USB device" > $LOG 2 > $LOG

The first startup script seems to fail or something similar when he is unable to carry out activities against files that should have been established of usb in the post installation script. The FAT16 partition that the post installation script is supposed to have access is supposed to be named CONFIG, but sometimes esxi maps up as NO NAME. In order to get the correct path based on name or NO NAME, I check it and store it in a variable. It is enough for the post installation and first boot scripts do what they are supposed to.

    2. at the end of the first startup script, I got this:

    echo "#Host configuration made! Restart... "> $FIRSTBOOTLOG 2 > $FIRSTBOOTLOG

    sleep 30

    reboot - n f > $FIRSTBOOTLOG 2 > $FIRSTBOOTLOG

It is now changed to sleep 180 seconds instead of 30, to ensure that all processes are made regardless of the esxi do what they are doing before starting.

I'm not sure of everything that happens in the background that it affects, but it seems to do the trick and fix my problem.

  • Automatic installation with kickstart

I try to install ESXi 6 on 8 workstations with a kickstart file I have in my FTP server. My FTP server is Filezilla under windows and my firewall is disabled completely, so the FTP server is running and I'm able to download the file correctly from another linux machine. I already install ESXi in Workstation 8 without kickstart trouble-free file.

When I start my ESXi installation I specify the console startup options

    > mboot.c32 - c boot.cfg ks = FTP://FTP_PASS:FTP_USER@ftpserver_ip/KS.cfg ip = 192.168.242.47 mask = 255.255.255.0 subnet gateway = 192.168.242.1

My ESXi fails and the message claims that there is no wired network interface card. Access /var/log/esxi_install.log and I can see how the boot options are mapped correctly, but after that 'network setting options for downloading media' installation is abandoned. I think that I have to specify more options, but I don't know which.

Have been check the FTP server log and it does even not any attempt to get the file.

My kickstart file is as simple as that:

    vmaccepteula

    rootpw $up3rPa$ $

    install firstdisk - overwritevmfs

    network - bootproto = dhcp - device = vmnic0

    reset

I tested also exactly the same thing with ESXi 5.5 installation and it worked perfectly. Difference is that after all the files have been loaded in memory and installation process begins on the kernel to install ESXi 5.5 logs I can see that network modules are loaded in ESXi 6.0 are not.

Is there a way to specify in the line of boot of the order in which kickstart files and modules should be loaded?

Any advice would be appreciated, thanks.

I failed to make it work with kickstart on a network location. However, I placed my kickstart file on the USB boot device I use for installation by stopping the installation until it begins with SHIFT + O and adding:

    > runweasel ks = usb: / ks.cfg

I know that's not the answer to the question, but there is a different path to the same place.

    Hello

I have prepared a Kickstart file.

But I do not understand why some parts do not work.

"vim - cmd" do not work in my kickstart.

the level of the % firstboot setting is not supported anyore > as well so I think that this is the problem why vim - cmd and esxcli are not recognized.

instead of esxcli, I have used localcli now. and it works. But I can not find a local work order for vim - cmd; (.

and also the startup script do not copy him pass + esxinstall file in / tmp. do not know why.

I read some posts and found that a saying is that I need to first install weblogic and then install OBIEE as software only, that is the correct step?
In fact I tried, but after installing weblogic, I chose the specific folder as Middleware House, OBIEE Installer did not recognize, he said, an application server must be already installed...
    Could someone help?
    Thank you!

    Problem solved.
The cause is that the host in/etc/hosts name contains an underscore.

  • Kickstart: Local data store destroyed do not reinstall it

I noticed that when I reinstall ESXi 5 on a server already built, the previous local data store is not destroyed.

I said to make a 'install' and 'overwritevmfs '.

install - firstdisk = mptsas, local - overwritevmfs

in the upper part of the kickstart but the store of previous local data remains.

    I tried to use clearpart

    clearpart - alldrives - overwritevmfs

Yet the local data store of the previous generation, as well.

Part of my process of kickstart is to rename the store local data (datastore1) to a meaningful name that includes the hostname so if I reinstall, the data store rename fails (since there is no datastore1 on the 2nd install).  Also, I need to know the name of the data store, as I'm checking out the files ' / ' when installing (via oem.tgz) and move before the first reboot in the section post % (or they will be gone). The only persistent location is the local data store. This also effects kickstart for resettlement syslog that goes to the local data store as well.

Suggestions on how do I delete a data store local existing during the installation (unless you delete the RAID and re-create)?

  • How should I correctly call ESXi 4.1 variable kickstart in the firstboot % section?

I have adjustments with a new article that I added to a kickstart file.  The new article is supposed to retrieve the MAC address for vmnic0, then grep MAC address of a file to get the name of the server host and other IP addresses.

It defines the variable MAC address successfully, but other variables don't settle for some reason any.  This is verified by the /etc/variables.txt file I write values in.  The MAC address is in the file and followed by 4 carriage returns.

So why call the variables work in the section with the echo commands, but not when it is used by setting the variables?

Seems I have fixed my problem here.

    A couple of notes:

First OFF... by setting my variables, I had a few redundant grep commands in there.  Was not cause anything to fail, but just make note.

Secondly, the section 'network - bootproto = dhcp - device = vmnic0 - addvmportgroup = 0' seems to have been the culprit.  I can't say exactly where it was originally my script to fail, but if you use DHCP, the server received different DNS servers that caused the script to fail.  I tried to use IP addresses instead of that in my line of wget, but it still fails.  The newspapers did not help to me clue as to why it is produced either.  Quite bizarre.

In any case, I decided to just change the line to use a "dummy" host name and IP address, then run a change of address and hostname IP later based on the txt file that lists the IP addresses.

Thanks in advance for the help.

    Kind regards
    Prasad

Yep, Prasad. But now the error has changed.

    ".... Lack of C:\Oracle\Middleware\user_projects\domains\oimdomain\config\fmwconfig\*.xldatabasekey *... »

Please check your $DOMAIN_HOME variable and confirm if it is part of this and if this file above is there. For example: "C:\Oracle\Middleware\user_projects\domains\oimdomain" I would say that your $DOMAIN_HOME is wrong but please check everything first and let us know.

If you confirm it's wrong, do it right the first step I told you once again and then properly set them $DOMAIN_HOME.

    Kind regards
    Leoncio Thiago.

  • Kickstart vSphere 4 question install script...

This is probably a matter of fast command line.  Search high and low looking for such a command...

Try to set the number of ports in a vSwitch from the command line.  I know that this information is found in the etc/vmware/esx.conf file.  I have a sed command in my kickstart file to edit the line, however, on the post installation script restart, the switch is always back to 64.  It's a step manual last (outside of Manager Update running for the post update 1 patches) that I have in my server build process.

Does anyone know of anyway to do other than using the vSphere client?

You should not manually change esx.conf file, you must specify the number of ports when generating a new vSwitch, you do something like:

    esxcfg-vswitch -a vSwitch:64

In my view, there are some checks at the start where the integrity of the esx.conf is checked and if it fails, it charges from an earlier copy known.

  • ESX 4 Kickstart, the disk partitioning

Hi, I'm trying to update my 'DR' (Disaster recovery) media / iso which

uses a KS.cfg in the initrd.img file to build any of our 32 blade

servers on based on the name of the Server Blade typed at the command prompt.

has worked to convert my KS.cfg to work with esx 4 using http://www.vmware.com/pdf/vsphere4/r40/vsp_40_esx_vc_installation_guide.pdf

, and changes with initramfs etc, still had some probs - so I can't see

There is a /root/ks.cfg in the system after installation manual - but when

trying to "imitate" installation using parts of this file/change script

through the manual on what is obsolete, I seem to be able to

go further now, but still, I'm still unable to start the server - I'm

pretty sure it's getting through the KS.cfg, it's simply not loading

VMkernel - it allows you to load vmnix, then bombs on 'failed to load.

    VMkernel.

I suspect it's something not right on the partition, but I'm not

you don't know. It seems to be fine analyzing my KS.cfg in the initrd file

now, but unable to start for any reason any.

    Here's my kickstart file:

    http://pastebin.com/m302d38

and here's a screenshot of the initialization failed:

    http://TwitPic.com/5rhox

Matter who has any good KS.cfg partitioning examples again, or

any ideas whats going wrong here? I have not yet tried autopart either,

    but it's on the list.

I also note that I can not type in the console at this breaking point so you can see, it's HP ILO2 if it matters)

    Thank you!

    Jamie

There is no option - chroot.  There are only - nochroot.  He 'chroots"default in/mnt/sysimage.
