L412 - swap HDD T400

Is it possible to change the hard drive between a T400 and a L412 and then adjust the drivers accordingly?  Or two drives must be in form and reinstalled on each operating system?

It is possible, and I had only to reactivate the operating system on the L412 (which now has the T400 HARD drive).

The plan is to turn off the server, install the new HDD and reconfigure the BIOS to power for hard drives new. Is the installation process for the similar server to our plan or very different?

    Shad515,

You can stop the server, but it is not necessary since you have hot swappable hard drives. While in THE RAID controller BIOS, simply insert drives into available slots. Hard drives will appear in a 'READY' State At this point, you have to reconfigure your virtual disk as needed.

  • XPS 8700 swapping HDD to SSD

Just received new XPS 8700 and swap wanted immediately to the factory installed 1 TB of HDD to a new Samsung 256 GB SSD. Given that Dell did not provide a Windows backup a DVD, I removed the HARD drive and tried to clone for SSD by using another computer running Windows 8. However, neither software Samsung SSD or EASEUS Todo Backup Free would allow me to clone the whole HARD disk, the SSD is smaller.

EASEUS has the possibility of reducing a selected partition so I could try to clone only the system partition main which is 940 GB but contains only 40 GB of data, mainly from windows and other software drivers, but I'm afraid that if I clone the other partitions, including the recovery of those, I will not be able to restore the system in the future.

Technician Dell told me to use an OEM Windows 8 drive for a clean install on the SSD, but I did not and fear may lose everything that Dell has installed on the HARD drive.

Should I continue the cloning attempts to use other software that allows to shrink the partitions if they contain no data - which one? Or XPS from the startup HARD drive as it is, make a record of system backup/image then, restore it to the SSD?

    Help will be very appreciated!

The Dell recovery partition can be easily removed without rendering the system unbootable, so my suggestion would be to leave them alone.

I have one of these USB to SATA led and I really was hoping if someone could let me know something that Googling it has not revealed so far that is:

1: what SATA is this laptop? Is it 1 or 2? This player works on it?
2: what is the best method to copy the current structure of disk and partition? Preferably leaving the data not copied partition as this will be a full recovery.

Is that all I need to know?
Sorry if this IS answered elsewhere, but I have 2 hours to do, I do it for free, and I just googled this morning already.

    Thank you!

    Hello

    > 1: what SATA is this laptop? Is it 1 or 2?

As much as I know the satellite and the Satellite A100 supports SATA I controller.
The two series are the same.

    > This disc will work on it?
Well, since the SATA standard is backward compatible, the SSD should work but with lower performance.

    > 2: what is the best method to copy the current structure of disk and partition?
There are different options. You can use the Toshiba Recovery disk to reinstall the system on the SSD drive. Personal data (documents, pictures, mp3, etc.) could be copied to a USB flash to move disk of the SDS.

You can also create an image of your partitions and after installing the SSD drive, you can use the image file to recover partitions

In some cases, manufacturers of SSDS provides tools/software specific to a product such procedure too.

To upgrade your hard drive for an SSD, you must get an SSD that is the same format as the HARD drive.  Looking for a standard 2.5-inch SSD.  So that SSDS might work, however, you have read above, I would say something a little bigger.

This SSD as it is a pretty good, and it is now on sale for $105: http://www.amazon.com/Samsung-2-5-Inch-Internal-MZ-75E250B-AM/dp/B00OAJ412U?tag=slicinc-20&ascsubtag...

  • Silence X 230: Swap HDD to SSD or install mSATA SSD HARD disk?

    Hello

I have a x 230 with a 320 GB of HDD (7500 RPM) and want to replace it with an SSD for a fully automated machine.

Right now, most of the time the only sound I hear the machine is the rotation of the disk HARD and TP Fancontrol watch that especially fans are not at all turns. I can afford a 128 GB SSD, but I am confused if I should replace the HDD with a SSD or complete with an mSATA SSD and install Windows, instead. The latter of course would give me 320 GB of HARD drive space, which would be nice, but my priority is the silence, so I need to know if the HARD drive can be powered completely except when I need files from it? If the HARD disk wakes up now and then because of some hidden Windows processes that I can't control, I'd rather than with an ordinary SSD instead of the mSATA SSD. I can live with less space.

Does anyone have experience with this?

    Thank you

    MASC wrote:
If you install your operating system and applications on the mSATA ssd and just use the HARD drive for file storage then I think the HARD drive will only turn up when you access these specific files.

Control Panel (Power Options) and Lenovo Power Manager settings for the hard disk turns off after a period of inactivity. However, the settings apply to all readers. Individual hard drives have no separate settings. I think that the system will not shut down the drive hard as long as there is activity going on in an mSATA SSD.

Strange. When I download the "Windows Installation Media creation Tool" since the above url I've provided, the first dialogue I get is "what type of Setup you want to create" & I must choose language, edition & Architecture. When this is done, I get 'Choose where to save the installation file' & the two choises are "USB stick" or "ISO file".

From this upgrade url, I first have to enter my product key.

  • First timer having issues with swap HDD

    Hello community!
    Heres so my situation.

    Lenovo 3000 N200 laptop
    Vista basic 32-bit.
Never had an installation disc. No backup recovery.
Find the installation ISO online thanks to interrupt support, Microsoft...
Cannot find Lenovo 3000 N200 recovery disks.
Bought a used HARD drive (new HARD drive is worth more than the laptop), bought a USB to SATA adapter. Wipe the new HARD drive (except for the recovery partition; do not know how to remove that).
Reformatted the new HARD drive. Reinserted in laptop.
    Restart windows using DVD ISO.
Establish the fine with basic Windows Installer.

Now, here's my problem. I have no Lenovo backup disks.

    Couple strange things happened today.
-Internet explorer initially blocked almost all the sites I went, saying invalid certificate.
Now its let me download firefox...
-Most important yet, I'm trying to download the windows update, but it says "windows cannot check for updates. When I click on the search button for updates, just on the loading screen updates checking.
-My sticker on my laptop activation key worked for install but when I got on the windows desktop, I had to validate my copy because my key is not all good. Had the phone automated service, blah blah.
-Laptop computer also cannot keep time properly, but I think it's just a bios battery dead.

My only guess is that my laptop is private pilots and all the stuff start Lenovo would be installed before sending their laptop of my way. Am I wrong?

I am so lost in what to do next. Can someone please suggest something? A little info, please!

What should I do now? It's so hard to find a ride for the reinstallation of windows.

    Sincerely,
A guy at the top of his head.

    Hello

You don't tell us which is your time after reset for good.

If after having set the time/Date and stop and restart your machine the time is to say the year 2007-2009 etc., you have a CMOS battery has failed in the motherboard.

They cost about $5 and are easy to replace.

  • What will happen with my agent and active Windows 8, I will have bought with the laptop after I swap HDD with SSD?

Original title: replacement disk and windows.

    Hello guys.

I am considering buying a new laptop. The model that I found and I like has a HARD drive if I want to replace it with the SSD to the format of my previous laptop. (Due to the low energy consumption, greater speed, etc.). So I have a 256 gb SSD in my previous loan of laptop replace new one HARD disk, yet what will happen with my agent and active Windows 8, I will have bought with the laptop?

I can reinstall windows 8 on the SSD, but I don't have a key to activate their... How will I be able to get the key from previous series if the laptops will only work with a recovery partition these days here? I asked a guy in the store, I buy my laptop since and he told me that he does not know and I have to ask for help. However, to create a message of support I need a serial number of the model I did not because I have not yet bought a laptop, so I don't know what to do... I really don't want to stick with the HARD drive, but also I can't afford another model.

Is it possible to do a recovery with my laptop disk when I get it, then replace the drive with my SSD and run the recovery disc I made?

The laptop I want to buy is an Asus if that helps...

    Thanks in advance...

The 'Raw' State is not necessary, it is the State of any drive (SSD drive or hard drive) would be in if you just remove a disk new in box and will need to be "initialized", since you have already used the player already initialized sound.

Do not format the drive, rather than delete all existing partitions, (the SSD shows then as being "unallocated"). Now you are ready to restore the backup Image you created. During the restore process Acronis will recreate the partitions that were on the hard drive on your SSD.

  • Swap HDD T60p

Hello I just got a new one for me T60P less the hard drive and the door. I am currently using a R51, if I get the basket? can I use my current hard drive or do I buy a new one?

You're not sure if the connectors of the space?

Thanks in advance for any help.

    LvNative, welcome to the forum,

Unfortunately you will not be able to use your R51 drive; It's a P - ATA (IDE) hard drive and the T60p requires a S - ATA drive so you will have to buy a new one.  All S - ATA 2.5 "with 9mm height in the car will be fine, you'll need the cage (caddy) and also rubber and door rails and get everthing tight fit."

The next bit of bad news is that prices have almost quadrupled in the last mount because of the flooding in Thailand, in car make sure you shop diligently.

  • E5-432: replace the HDD with SDS

I of the E5 Aspire-432, that come stock with a 500 GB HDD, I would like to exchange for a SDS in the future. I found not yet no info via Google or this forum.

Anyone has any info on this? Is there an available maintenance manual detailing how to replace the HARD drive in the e5-432?

Would be-I just need to clone the HDD to the SDS, the Exchange and start?

    Thanks for any info

UPDATE: I just did the swap HDD/SDD in the Aspire E5-432. It is very easy to do.

It starts now less than 15 seconds. Much snappier.

    Prepare the SDS:

1 installation Drive Clone or as software

2 connect the SDS, via USB and to clone the HDD to SDS - cloning took about 1 1/2 hours with a USB2 cable

Note: leaving the size of the partition that DriveClone wouldn not (not enough message space), I reduced the main partition of about 400 MB and everything went well

    Remove the HARD drive:

    1. power off the laptop, remove all the screws from the bottom and crack open

    2. a screw holds the HARD drive in case tray, remove

    3. a screw holds the USB/audio jack PCB, remove it

    4. on the audio jack USB PCB, lift the lever to release for USB/audio cable

    5. on the motherboard, raise the white lever for USB/audio cable that is stuck on the plateau of HARD drive

    6. remove the taking USB/audio PCB and right speaker held in place with eyelets pink silicone

    7. slide the HARD drive to the right tray, can he get out of it

    8. remove the 2 screws from the HARD drive tray

9 FLEX tray by pressing the top middle holding the sides, push the HARD drive from the open side. Trying to force the HARD drive does not work out with tools

Do the reverse steps to put SDS in, reboot, enjoy!

    Worth it!

  • Hard drive swap between a T61p and W500

Currently, I can exchange my operating system to Windows XP SP3 disk main back and forth between my old July 2007 built T61 15.4 emergency relief "T7500 WSXGA + Nivida NVS 140 M ThinkPad and my most recent August 2008 built T61p T9300 WSXGA + Nividia FX570M daily user ThinkPad w/o any problem or extra steps by my tests (just in case a future emergency...) «Be ready...» ("Boy/Eagle Scout motto and all that).

I have the opportunity to pick up a T9500 W500 15.4 WSXGA + "ATI FireGL V5700 ThinkPad in good working condition at a very reasonable price to replace my old T61 emergency relief (instead of replacing it with another T61p built after August 1, 2008 as originally planned)." I always use my T61p anchored (Advanced Mini Dock M/T 2504 - 10U) with the cover closed screen and an external monitor, keyboard and mouse, the screen so a minor or cosmetic problems of the W500 is not relavent.

I think I should be able to do the same swap HARD drive between the W500 and T61p which, except for the difference in graphics driver ATI vs Nvidia, is quite similar to the T61p where the machine would be initially default to the standard VGA and then driver, I would have only to move on to the step (in a swap of emergency) for cleaning carefully the old video drivers and then install the correct via video drivers to update the system.

If this kind of W500 to swap HDD T61p is actually feasible, then I probably do the T61p my emergency relief and use the W500 slightly more powerful than my main office replacement anchored for a year or two before the upgrade of the unit both at the latest offering from Lenovo in late 2012 or early 2013.

  • MacBook pro doesn't boot/guard chrasing (end 2011-17 ")

    Dear community,

I have a problem with my laptop as expensive. All started a few months ago. Guard just by chance my business, when all of a sudden my screen blink, turning blue, split in two. Hmmm weird, never had this before. Was not any substance is heavy on the machine in time.

For troubleshooting begins: Reboot, = > boots ok. Yes it works! After 10-15 minutes, the same question. Woohoo!

Reboot again, this time without success. It gets stuck at the loading screen grey and begins fanning upward. After becoming as hot as Mordor, it stops. Tried a few reboots, but all with the same result.

Occasionally, it starts successfully and I can work perfect for about 10 to 30 minutes. (After restarting 5ish, at this point I did a backup on an external).

My first assumption is therefore a bit my HARD drive stopped working. (Had the same problem a few years ago, swap HARD drive fixed)

So I start with basic stuff. Check if everything is always in place. Swap the RAM, see if everything is still ok.

Restart the macbook, without success. Same screen.

Cannot access disk utility, startup does not work either. Memory NVRAM and SMC reset does not work.

Single user mode is the only thing that seems to work all the time. (Note: I was looking for similar problems a little on the net.)

I came across a forum a clever solution:

    /sbin/fsck -fy

    /sbin/mount -uw /

    rm /var/db/.AppleSetupDone

    reset

TADAA! I can create a new account. Everything seems fine! First thing we do is to check my HARD drive. No problems found. But after 30 minutes ish it crashes again

Only the same deal in single user mode but this time without success.

So no start working at this point.

For some reason any (after 1000000 tries), I went into disk util. So clean it up the installation of the operating system. Installation is made but same problem starting.

With a friend we swap HDD and my HARD drive (SSD) starts fine on his machine. His HARD drive (windows OS) starts immediately on my macbook.

But the fun doesn't last long, after 30 minutes of use ish, the macbook crashes again and the startup problem starts again.

At this point im guessing a hardware problem somewhere. Maybe someone has or has had the same problem or can help with this problem.

Sorry for the long reading and occasional grammar mistakes.

Any suggestion or help is gladly appreciated!

PS: The only thing that had changed was that I bought a new magsafe power adapter but it loads fine.
