  The Photosmart 7520 requires that all cartridges to be present.  You will need to replace the cartridge with the standard or replace size XL.  Don't forget to replace the Photo or black cartridge as explained in this document.

  564 black cartridge has a Pentagon on the cartridge but a circle on the box...  The Photo cartridge has a butterfly on the cartridge and a camera on the box.

  My C310A has worked perfectly as a network printer and photocopier
  13 months with a heavy workload on the side of the copy.  I had bought a

  In response to myself.  Had a closer look at available online thecartridges and find a supplier for the black photo.  There the black symbol of the can on it.  Meanwhile, I reinstalled the new black print cartridge (the wideer one) and was able to print a complete report.  Tried a color photocopy and black came fine, which seems to show that the black cartridge IS used in photo printing.

  Again, I am impressed.  This is a fantastic printer.  I've always liked HP (16 years and a half dozen printers) and particularly for their copy Linux supports.  They keep HPLIP right up-to-date.

  I see that you wonder if you need to replace the color cartridge when it is low. This printer is a printer AIO, therefore, you need to replace the ink cartridge when it becomes too weak to be able to resume printing. However, if you print mostly in black, you can configure a preset black only to print in black and white. This would help reduce the use of the color cartridges.

  NOTE: Composite black - for black and white images and photos, a mix of colors called 'composite black' can be used to achieve the quality significantly improved picture and soft gray tones that can be achieved with only black toner. For users who want to print images using just black toner, many HP printers color customer offer configurable options allowing the client to print using only black toner. For example, by selecting "print in grayscale" in the printer driver Specifies print using black ink only.   I have a Color Laserjet 2605dn, and all of the color ink cartridges have run dry. However the black cartridge has more than 2,000 pages of ink in the printer and it won't let me prink only black and white. It seems that the color cartridges must also have ink in them so that the printer to print. Does anyone know a work around so that I can print with the black cartridge and not buy color cartridges?

  I'm sorry that you're having this problem, but the printer will NOT work without the color cartridges.

  Even if you chose to print in B & W, the printer still need to use each cartridge colors to mix with black to make a true black color.

  I replaced the black cartridge in my OfficeJet 6500, and clicking on it.  (I triple checked it.)  However, when I try to print a document that is supposed to be any black ink, it prints in a Brown shade as if it is mix inks instead of using black-colored.   I printed a diagnostic page, cleaned and alignment of the heads of print and even restarted the computer and the printer.  Nothing helps!  I am still at work and I have documents that need to be printed!

  What operating system do you have?  For Windows 7, you would go to start, devices and Printerss, right-click on the Officejet 6500 and then select Printing Preferences.  You can change the setting 'document Type' in the tab 'Features', then click on apply.

  The above will change the default value.  You can also change the print to a particular print job by selecting the print properties when you go to print.
