    Hello Microsoft community.

    I wanted to know if anyone has a solution to make my DVD/CD drive back drive work on my computer?

    I am running Windows Vista on a HP Pavillion laptop on a little more than a year)

    A couple of days, I noticed my CD-ROM/dvd-rom was missing from 'My Computer', which was listed as E drive and missing from my list of Device Manager.

    In my registry upper/lower filter is NOT listed

    However, DVD/CD Rom Drives IS listed as a default value in the registry TYPE: REG_SZ

    and CD ROM IS listed as (class) in my registy-TYPE: REG_SZ.

    -J' tried the restore and - last good known already

    but it did not help.

    Thanks in advance for any help you can offer to solve my problem

    Hello

    Step 1: Please do all the same underneath if you did some before as is often total
    a process that solves the problem.

    Try this - Panel - Device Manager - CD/DVD - double click on the device - driver tab.
    Click on update drivers (this will probably do nothing) - RIGHT click ON the drive - uninstall.
    RESTART this will refresh the default driver stack. Even if the reader does not appear to continue
    below.

    Then, work your way through these - don't forget the drive might be bad, could be a coward
    cable or slight corrosion on the contacts (usually for a laptop) and other issues.

    Another possibility is that the cables are loose. Remove ALL power, then make sure that the cables in both

    Some DVD players do not use the Windows default drivers so check with the manufacturer of system and
    manufacturer of device to see if there is a firmware or drivers for your drive if necessary.

    ===============================

    Step 2: You have disc problems as the CD/DVD is actually 4 discs in 1 case (CD & DVD
    Burn and CD and DVD read). So it is not unusual for 1 or 2 operational so that other parts
    do it right.

    Did you follow the Troubleshooting Guide for the reader who still does not work? There are

  • CD-ROM/DVD-ROM missing from Device Manager, FRUSTRATED!

    I jumped on my computer today, to copy a disc in iTunes and found that Windows is for some reason, do not recognize my DVD/CD drive.  Now, the drive is very good; This works.  I put in a disc and it runs.  But that's all.  I go to Device Manager to see what is the problem and I find that the knot of READERS of CD-ROM/DVD-ROM is missing altogether.  -What happened?  If anyone can help (not you, Rob;) I already tried everything in your list of suggestions), please.  I would appreciate.

    DT

    Hi Dtorres,

    • What exactly do you mean by it works when I insert the disk?

    If the device is missing in the Device Manager, it may be due to hardware failure or if the drive cables are not connected properly. This can also happen if there is a damage in the drive cable, windows will not be able to detect the drive.

    However, you can contact the computer manufacturer to verify if there is any firmware that you can install for the CD / DVD player and if you can run a diagnostic tool for the material.

    You can also start the BIOS of your laptop and check if the drive is detected in the BIOS and post back the result.

    I hope this helps. Let us know the result.

    Thank you and best regards,

  • Readers of CD-ROM/DVD-ROM missing

    I came to visit my parents yesterday and I tried to use the CD-ROM on their Dell Dimension 8300 running Windows XP SP3.  The drive seemed to be working, but wouldn't read anything.  So I checked in Windows Explorer and the CD-ROM or the DVD + R/W discs were there.  I went to the Device Manager and received the following message:

    Windows cannot load the driver for this hardware device. The driver may be corrupted or missing. (Code 39)

    The readers in question are the NEC IDE\CDROM_NEC_DVD + RW_ND-2100AD and IDE\CDROMHL-DT-ST_DVD-ROM_GDR8162B (Hitachi or LG, I think).

    So I tried to update the drivers, but Windows could not find a driver better than the current.  Figures.  I uninstalled the drives and tried to reinstall, but no luck.  I have good, well, I just downloaded a new form of drivers somewhere.  I went to Microsoft; no luck.  I went to Dell, where it says, "Dell makes drivers for its products on its Web site."  No, it isn't.  There was only the 22 drivers/firmware for DVD/CD devices; were not mine.  In fact, the only reference I could find any where on the Dell site for these discs were complaints in the forum there is no drivers! Never.  I went to NEC, Hitachi and LG.  All the zip.  Found dozens of web sites that will set everthing at a price of $29.95, but I really don't want to go that route unless I have to.

    I found a post on http://www.connectedinternet.co.uk/2008/06/30/mystery-of-the-disappearing-dvd-rom/ that looked exactly like the problem I have.  It was suggested to change the registry.  I can do this, but I don't want to make things worse.

  • Satellite M70 - 159-> update bios-> DVD ROM missing

    Hello
    I have the Satellite M70-159, PSM71E
    I made the big mistake, please help and suggestions are welcome.

    History:
    I installed Windows XP home sp2
    A few days ago I tried to update my hardware drivers (last attempt was a few years ago) and the BIOS too.
    So, first of all, I decided to update the bios of 1.30 to 1.50
    -bios150win has been downloaded and install completely and it works very well. But since then, that my laptop doesn't see DVD - ROM - it disappeared at all.
    WindowsXP says - no CD/DVD-ROM in your stack of material, and I can't boot from bootable CD/DVD drive.

    I tried to downgrade the BIOS to 1.30 but the f * ng tool shows me a message that I have more new bios and I do not need to downgrade.
    Hey! Toshiba! Please, give me a chance! Just remove your Bios update a few lines of code! Do not check the version of the bios.

    PPL! Please help. Because now I can't reinstall OS, I can't burn, I can't get my data, I can't do anything.

    Thank you

  • CD/DVD drive missing (vista)

    This problem is getting ridiculous.  My CD/DVD drive has been appearing and disappearing in recent weeks power on and off.  I tried the deleting the upper and lower limits registry hack and it seemed to work once, but after a while the disc disappears again, sometimes after the mode 'sleep' and sometimes spontaneously.  Reset used to clear up the problem for a while, but now the drive seems definitely over.  I uninstalled iTunes and Nero, I have because they may have caused problems.  I can't use Device Manager, because the device is not listed, so no way to update the drivers.  I am now at the point where there is much more information that I found Microsoft or from other sources, if anyone has had this problem or knows something, I can try to get Vista to recognize the drive that I would be really grateful.  Thank you!

  • Vista Home Premiun Device Manager does not display my CD-ROM/DVD-ROM drive

    I recently tried to use my CD-ROM/DVD-ROM drive and it did not work. It was working fine a few days previously but now... Nothing.

    My first reaction was to open Windows Explorer, expand and look at computer. There was my C drive and the recovery Partition but no Opitical drive more.
    Then I opened the Device Manager and saw that the CD was registered it is more as well?

    My question is

    Vista automatically removes the CD-ROM drive in the list of Device Manager if there is a problem with the drive itself?

    Or is there something that happened this suppression the CD-ROM in Device Manager list and it is not a problem with the drive itself?

    I had a disc go bad before on a PC running Windows 98 and 2000, but the disc stayed in the Manager list but I'm pretty new to Vista and know things are very different. So before we get in panic Mode, I thought that it would be a good idea to ask where someone will know probably for sure.

    Thanks in advance for clues

  • DVD ROM drive missing from the Explorer

    I installed nero burning rom on vista and then the dvd rom drive disappeared from the Explorer.  When I went into the Device Manager and checked my dvd rom for the solution properties, it says that the driver could not load and that Windows cannot start this hardware device because its information of configuration (in the registry) is incomplete or damaged. • HD DVD - ROM driver is missing or corrupt on Satellite A200-s 23

    Hi, recently I bought my Toshiba Satellite A200-23 s and now it says that the HD DVD-ROM driver is missing or currupted. The system can not see DVD - ROM. My laptop is still under warranty, but perhaps I can fix it somehow? I found the list of drivers on this site but you've not seen DVD - ROM drivers.

    Don t think that it s a hardware problem.
    I think that it s a registry problem.

    Access the registry and delete the Upperfilters and Lowerfilters completely from the following registry key values:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\Class\ {4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}

    My computer for some reason unknown to me, recognize or load content on any DVD or CD that I put in my combo drive. The disc turns and acts like it is loading, but nothing happens. I want to switch from XP to Vista. whether a disk of music or a dvd movie disc, it always does the same thing. I have a satellite M45-S2652. I tried the registration procedure and nothing has changed. Before that, when I clicked in my device manager and everything was ok, he read "(MAT *** un DVD) RAM UJ - 831 S."

    I tried to use my windows recovery disk, but the computer does not recognize it. I tried the restore later, when I clicked in my device manager, under DVD ROM, I saw a bunch of script gibberish with a yellow exclamation point, but the same thing was happening. Y at - it someone who had that same kind of experience and solved. Will you please help me to solve my problem. I want to upgrade to Vista.

    Thank you.

    Try to remove the CD/DVD filters in the registry.
    When the associated CD/DVD (such as iTunes, Nero, virtual CD software), the software is installed, they install filters in the registry, which can cause compatibility problems.

    (1) run Regedit (start-> Run-> Regedit)
    2) navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\Class\ {4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}
    (3) in the right pane, delete the "UpperFilters" key and delete the key "LowerFilters".
    (4) restart.

    If your CD/DVD programs stop working, you will need to reinstall them (preferably with an updated version).

    This utility can remove the filters for you:
