Lightroom crash very often (Windows 7)

Recently, every time I open Lightroom and try to do whatever it is developing, the program stops responding and needs to close. I'm running on Windows 7-64 bits, with 16 GB of RAM. Photoshop, however, is quite well. I never had performance problems (slow but manageable speed brushes, etc.) with Lr.

Any suggestions as to what I can adjust to fix this?

Thanks in advance,

Jacob

If you cannot launch Lightroom or Lightroom crashes before you can uncheck "Use Graphics Processor" you can disable this preference manually by following these steps:

  1. Stop Lightroom
  2. Go to %appdata%\Adobe\Lightroom\Preferences\Lightroom 6 Preferences.agprefs
[appdata is hidden by default: press the windows and the keys r to open run and type %appdata%\microsoft\windows\sendto, then follow the path shown]
  3. Open the Preferences.agprefs 6 Lightroom file in TextEdit
  4. Change the following line: useAutoBahn = true to the useAutoBahn next = false
  5. Save and close the file Lightroom 6 Preferences.agprefs
  6. Restart Lightroom CC/6

Very often my laptop goes down. I do not get the BSOD, but the screen has about 8 vertical lines on it. Within each section created by these lines, the display is distorted into small rectangles. You can see vaguely the display. None of the keys work and the only way to stop the computer is to use the on-off switch.
    Any ideas?

    Hi Collie,

It looks like a problem with your display driver itself have put in a lot of trouble with whatever your application is trying to get it to do.

The only option is to check your driver version is the latest available at Toshiba. I wouldn't recommend trying to update the driver to a version from somewhere else, since graphics drivers tend to be specific to the laptop model rather than generic as is the case for PC Tower.

You can also try some of your display settings on the control panel to see if this reduces the impact of the problem of adjustment.

    Hi Akash,

It turned out that the last update Windows 10 from a few nights ago solved the problem. Now, I think the update of Windows 10 a few weeks ago to corrupt some library/driver LR and some other raw editors use. I shot of LR on and off for two days now without any problems. I think that this experience should help me (and probably you) in the future to try to identify the mysterious causes of application failures.

Appreciate your patience to stay with me to try to understand what was going on.

  • Firefox crashes very often

I have been using another browser (Opera) for a while now and recently switched back to firefox. However, firefox always crashes (I count more than 30 accidents over a period of 4 days). (As far as I know), it cannot be traced to any specific web page or activity, it happens even when no activity is carried out to be it (no click, scroll etc.).

Hmm, this solution has solved a question similar just now

Does still crash in Mode safe?

You can start Firefox in Mode safe below:

    • Windows/Mac: choose Help > restart with disabled modules
    • Linux: run firefox-safe-mode in the Terminal/Konsole

If it isn't, then set javascript.options.baselinejit to false in: config:

    • Go to Subject: config in your address bar
    • Press the "I'll be careful, I promise!" button to continue
    • You can search for javascript.options.baselinejit and set it to false by the pref to right click and selecting toggle.
    • Restart Firefox and see if it works properly.

If I click somewhere the software tell me it does not work (adode lightroom not responding)

    LR5 still works OK.

    I'm on Windows.

Thanks a lot for your ansver!

    1. Access %appdata%\Adobe\Lightroom\Preferences\Lightroom 6 Preferences.agprefs.

    ==> I can't find this file!

You have received the wrong way - the Lightroom 6 Preferences.agprefs file is inside this folder:

    \AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Lightroom\Preferencesyour usernameC:\Users\

Open the file in a text editor such as Notepad.

Close to the end of the file there is a line that says useAutoBahn = true,- change that to useAutoBahn = false,

Save and close the file. Now, try to start Lightroom.

If this does not work, try to delete the preferences file.

You don't need to uninstall LR5 - the problem is most likely has to do with the GPU and LR6.

I also see that you are not running the latest version of LR, you must upgrade to version 6.3.

  • Why plugin - container.exe crash so often during the closing of PDF files?

When I load multiple PDF files in Firefox to check their content for the errors one by one, closing a tab PDF to reveal another tab PDF very often causes plugin - container.exe planting, which means I have to reload each tab PDF remaining to display the remaining files. This of course defeated the purpose to open more than one at the time and adds about 5 times because the number of clicks to the whole process because I erase the mistake and reload each page, then it might happen again or not. It produced whenever I close a PDF file, but about 1/4 times.

I know that I have two versions of Acrobat installed (9.5.5 of Acrobat and Reader 11.0.10) and therefore two Firefox plugins, but for the record that this same thing happening on other computers that just have Reader or simply Acrobat, this isn't a matter of conflicting plugins. Although I noticed that you are not allowed to disable one or the other - a disable disables both. As a first step, it does not appear, but if you reload the plugins page, you will see that the two are actually off.

Windows coughs following error report when the plugin - container.exe grave failure, but Firefox says nothing, I guess because the plugin-container is a stand-alone application:

  • Lightroom crash

Since I installed the latest version of Lightroom to creative cloud, very frequently, it crashes ("crash"). Window of I'm on 10. I constantly have to restart. If I delete it and find a new creative cloud of Lightroom in, how do I do and what is this new version will count pour a second Lightroom as if I had it installed on another computer?

    Thank you

You will need to disable the graphic processor out of Lightroom.

    First of all, close Lightroom.

[With Windows Explorer, navigate to C:\Users\[your username] \AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Lightroom\Preferences

Open the Lightroom 6 Preferences.agprefs file in a text editor such as Notepad.

Close to the end of the file there is a line that says useAutoBahn = true, - change that to useAutoBahn = false,

Save and close the file. Now, launch Lightroom - the GPU will be switched off.

  • CC of Lightroom crash

    Hi guys,.

Having some major problems for Lightroom CC 2015. It is fully updated and my graphics (AMD Radeon HD 5670) is fully updated with the latest drivers. I work on a Windows 7 with 8 GB RAM machine besides the 2 GB of graphics card RAM on the card. So it should work very well. It works photoshop and indesign is usually pretty good.

I've seen it maybe is a way to disable the graphics driver. But I prefer not to do so because it will slow down my work, and I tell myself that I have a compatible card it should work.

I would be grateful for any suggestions! Thank you.

Unless you have one of the new monitors high resolution, the graphics processor is only to show the very minimal performance improvements (if any). Although you would not rather turn off the graphics processor in Lightroom, this is the solution. If you want to use Lightroom, do. Your other alternative is to ensure that you have the latest driver for your graphics card. If this does not resolve the problem then you should consider installing another card.

  • Lightroom crashes when importing, iPhone a trigger

The latest version of Lightroom CC, 2015.2.1, continues to be unstable, crashing constantly, taking usually Windows desktop down with it requiring a reboot of the entire system.

The import module and its new GUI seems to be a trigger for this behavior. By clicking import, sometimes LR crashes immediately without displaying the import screen, sometimes he half-displays the screen to import as a transparency on the normal screen then freezes and sometimes the import screen becomes fully visible but then more often as otherwise LR and the crash even when Windows desktop.

Although this behavior may happen at any time, try to import photos from an iPhone ensures a fatal full system shutdown.

2015 Lightroom versions have all been more unstable than previous versions. These problems seem to be centered around video issues. I have an AMD Radeon graphics card and had to rollback repeatedly last year drivers (as well as uncheck LR graphics options) for LR to work. And each new version of LR seems to require to start from scratch to get the program, the operating system and graphics card all talk to each other. This time, they're not talking.

Adobe, what do you think? Similar problems are reported on the net.

Any help with this mess is greatly appreciated.

    Hi ejbSFO

    Greetings!

Although this behavior may happen at any time, try to import photos from an iPhone ensures a fatal full system shutdown.

If the accident is specific to the iPhone, it is because Lightroom performs an analysis of all the devices where the pictures would be. He has the problem where it cannot correctly identify a smartphone as a "hard disk". So, if you set your iPhone to connect as a support MTP device. The question could not arise.

    Hi eidrian88,

I think that it of difficult to say something because it can be everything... I want to say that no one knows what you have installed exactly so it could be a software or a hardware problem.

In my opinion the best way to identify the exact problem is reinstall with the Toshiba recovery disc. It will restore software factory with all the drivers and tools. If these settings are pre-tested and should work correctly.

Otherwise it might be a hardware malfunction and an authorized service provider can verify this.
