Lightroom on two computers

Hey there.

Probably a dumb question but if I download lightroom on a second computer, this does not affect the first catalog of t - he?

Thank you very much

Hi MissGatt,

No, it does affect the first catalogue at all, because you use it on any other computer.

It will be useful.

Kind regards

Assuming that you are talking about 6 Lightroom Lightroom CC (which version are you talking about?), you must use the Cloud on Sign Out creative application on a computer before you can install it on another computer.

  • What the your work flow using Lightroom on two computers?

I realize similar questions have already been asked, but after much research, I gave up on the dream of seamlessly sync between my laptop and desktop computer facilities (and catalogues) in Lightroom.

I thought that Lightroom Mobile hold the answer, but this can only sync with a catalogue and a mobile device. Then I tried to open the same catalog (which resides on an external drive) on both computers, but my laptop is connected via a network. It seems that an opening on a network catalog is not allowed? This leaves export and import of catalogs, but to be honest, it's a little a rigmarole.

So, I find myself with my office and the catalogue of my collection of photos (which works fine). That just leaves me with my laptop, which is frankly a bit redundant.

I'm curious to know how other people work with two computers... two catalogs and never the two are irreconcilable? Or export catalogs between devices permanently? Or something else?

    Hi Froodster,

We do not recommend our user to upgrade their catalog on the network drives, because you could faces challenges to access and update.

If your images can reside on the network drive, but the catalog must be on a local drive on the computer or any external drive.

  • CC of Lightroom on two computers different access to same pictures?

Hello.  I paid for and prepare creative cloud and Lightroom CC on my computer at home and imported about 4 000 photos in my first catalog.  Now I would like to have access to these pictures on my work computer.  I have installed cloud creative and open Lightroom CC on my work computer, but I don't know how to access these catalogued photos.  I don't know if it's important, but on my computer at home, on the active tab of the creative cloud, it shows 100% used (2GB 2 GB).  Any help would be appreciated.  Thank you

Your best bet is to put the catalog on an external HD file, and then move the external hard drive to another computer.

If it is too heavy, some people have used DropBox to make it work, but it becomes difficult and if you screw up, you could end up with a useless catalog file. Please search the forums for more details on this.

  • How can I have access to a catalog of lightroom on two computers without the need of an external hard drive?

I tried to put the catalog and photos in my Dropbox. Photos of course transfer and file .lrdata but transfers the .lrcat does not work.

It should transfer as long as you remember to quit Lightroom every time before moving on to the other computer. If you do not leave, there is a likelihood of SIGNIFICANT corruption of the catalog that is why it must be EXTREMELY cautious when you put your catalog in a dropbox folder. It works but it is very dangerous.

  • How can I use lightroom on two computers?

Currently, I use Lightroom on my desktop computer. Sometimes it is really hard for me to get edition because I'm often not home. How can I install and synchronize my account of lightroom for my computer desktop and laptop? My desktop is a pc and my laptop is a Mac.

    Hi brittbritt92,

The simplest solution is to put the catalog on the external hard drive, and then you can easily connect and use from each machine.  There are alternatives, including using import and export to and from the catalog, but they then ask you to keep track of who you use last.

  • Using Lightroom on two computers

Here's my situation.  I have an iMac that is now my main computer for LR workflow.  Preview catalog and the catalog to sit on the hard drive of my iMac.  I have a MacBook Pro that I want to use on a trip.  I just want to shoot a project, import pictures on my laptop and change them in LR.  When I return to my iMac, I want to be able to move the original images and any changes on my main hard drive.

I tried to move my lrcat and lrdata to a dropbox folder and point my LR iMac than... things catalogue is painfully slow. I was not even trying to open things up on my macbook.  I do not use a hard drive on a trip because my iMac in my office is connected to 16TB and tb 20 disks RAID 5, where all my images to sit.

What is the best option here?

You would export the work that you did on your MacBook to a catalogue on the external hard drive. Then you would move this external hard drive to your iMac. You would open the normal catalog that you always use and then choose Import from the catalog that is located on the external hard drive on the iMac. That would merge the work that you did on your MacBook with the catalog on your iMac, and everything should be consolidated in a catalog.

  • How can I work with LR on two computers and maintain synchronization?

I y fotos and lightroom installed on your desktop (MAC). As I travel a lot, I would work on my laptop (MAC) will receive realize but then sync my work with my office when I get home.

    Ho do I do?

Unfortunately, Lr does still support the synchronization of the catalogues. However, you can place your catalog on an external hard drive that is connected to the computer of your work at any time. Many Lr users find this approach is quite simple to manage. Alternatively, you can keep a copy of your catalog on both computers. This first part of this video using Lightroom on two computers - YouTube described describes how. If you use Lr5 or higher, then you must actually copy the actual photos that Smart previews can be used a proxy files. Intelligent previews are much smaller, so much more effectively to carry photos around on the laptop.

    Hi moving,

You can use Lightroom or Photoshop on two computers using a single license.

If you want to use on the third computer, you should disable any previous machines and turn it then back on the 3rd machine.

You can also consider getting another license or subscription to your other computer.
