The workflow would be to save your model from 3Ds Max to the obj format and import into C4D lite or 3-d element to allow the camera to AE to interact with the model or to export data from camera to AE for 3Ds Max and render an image sequence to be used as a layer of film.

  If AE is updated and you have not hidden the layer controls (check the view menu), it should work.

  This does not sound like a glitch, it sounds like user error caused by small misunderstanding of the works of the tracking camera. The only thing the camera tracker adds to keyframes are the camera. It calculates the angle of view, the camera position and camera movements. When you take markers they need to be in the same plane as the object in the scene. For example, if you had a few markers followed on an object that was 4 feet in front of the camera and a few other markers on an object that was 20 feet from the camera and allowing you this markers to add a solid and a solid camera wouldn't fit to objects in the scene, it would float between them and probably look a little weird. Also be careful of lens distortion because the AE camera is ideal. Camera, followed by a GoPro without removed fisheye can give you a good track in the center of the image, but that objects move to the edge track fail because the lens distortion.   Just add your solids as placeholders and then add the image to the model and make the 3D layer. Now, hold down the SHIFT key and make the solid placeholder the parent layer of the 3D image.   Select the footage in the timeline panel, then go to layer > Pre-compose. Make sure that you check the button that says move all the attributes of the new publication, this will create a new publication using your footage. Now apply Tracker camera to the pre composed in the original timeline layer.

  Thanks again, Todd.  I have found a workaround and Walter Soyka simultaneously ID had the problem - set up, they seem to be a bug in AE when followed 3D clips time-reversed.  Easy enough to fix once identified and hopefully fixable in future app updates.  Details here:

  It will not work. You have pictures of ghosts in there due to the variable framerates in your bullet-time / slow-mo and it completely havok with the logic of temporal coherence. It might be possible if you captured the shot at regular, fixed framerates and then it slowed down in AE, but even in this case, you will need to do the most compatible motion as not to approach objects until they appear full screen.

• 3D Camera Tracker - various tutorials and YOU results!

  I'm on the last AE CS (June 2015) and cannot get the 3D camera tracker to work properly.

  In short, when I select a target (I usually use a flat target, say a road or an office, etc.) and choose CREATE TEXT or any combination, the text is still very large and medium off screen.  I tried different from mine and even Youtube tutorials download images and may not match how others get the software to meet.  Their text is on target, mine is far away in space.  Simple text rotation up to 90 from the results in the text with a HUGE bow out of the flat screen.

  Then when you create the text and it is directly on target, mine is disabled in space and requires a lot of manipulation.  Is there a setting, resetting, etc?  Also if anyone can point to another solid tutorial of rock with real images of test that I could use to duplicate the results it would be greatly appreciated.
