Link to a topic in another project (in a new window)

When I do a link on a project subject to a topic of project B, I have can´t change hyperlink options. The theme of the project B is therefore shown in the same window as the subject of A prior. Is it possible to open in a new window (second)?

Sorry for my bad English.

Janine

Hi Janine.

Unfortunately, this is a limitation of the links to a topic in another CHM. It works differently with the other output formats (for example, WebHelp).

    Hello.

    I m new in RoboHelp.

I Don t know how to make a link between one of my projects and a topic in another (in RoboHelp 8).

I think that in RoboHelp 7 is 'hyperlink' - 'hyperlink subject remote', but in RoboHelp 8 "remote topic" - function isn´t it.

    (Sorry for my bad English)

    Janine

Hi Janine and welcome in the HR community.

How you link to a section of another HR project depends on what kind of output you produce (CHM, WebHelp, etc.). The remote subject method you mention is used only when you are linking to a CHM to another project file output. What is more, the option is available only if you have the Microsoft HTML Help source unique layout defined as the default output. The binding in RH8 method is exactly the same as in RH7. If you always produce CHMS, check your layout of single source pod which is the default output. If Microsoft HTML Help is not the default, right-click on it and click on "Set as default output".

Either way, your English is very good except that 'project' is spelled with a 'c' ;-)

  • How to launch the project in a new window?

    I have a project in Captivate 4.

Published in a zip for download on a LMS System.

I want to launch in a new window so content doesn't get cut...

    Any suggestions?

    Hello

If you use the option "full screen" when you publish, that'd do it. Basically what is happening, is that you get an extra HTML page. You run this page, and there is a link that opens the film in another window without the usual "chrome" as a menu bar, toolbar, etc..

I was wondering if there is a way to run the "reveal in project" command without first opening a new window or a Panel. I would like to have the clip be revealed in the project window, I already opened.

The value stores open in Place on the general tab of the preferences.

However, when a bin at a lower level is completely open (double click) in the project window and the clip is in another tray it will open in a separate window.

    Thank you.

    Hello

Normally, you insert a Captivate SWF into an HTML page in order to present. You do this? If not, why?

Once you insert the SWF file in an HTML page, you can then open the HTML page in a new window.

First of all, make sure that the 'properties' groupbox is visible (Edit > properties). Then, select the linked button or the text in your document. Below in the groupbox to target "_blank" pick properties

You're used to plot? This is because you use the word 'scene '.

  • Open a new window when linking between PDF docs (link originates in a Word doc)

    Hello

I saw this discussed historically general topic, but couldn't find any resolution.  I have a Word doc (let's call it A.doc) linking to a PDF doc (let's call it b.pdf). Once I have convert Word doc to PDF (A.pdf creation), I want the link en.pdf to open b.pdf in a new window.

I've seen a number of suggestions that indicate that I can set up the link in Word to do this, use her change the hyperlink > target frame > frame target > 'new window '.  While this works if I click on the link in Word, it does seem to "reporter" once I converted A.doc to A.pdf.  When I click the link en.pdf then B.pdf opens in the same window in time.

I know how to add manually link in Acrobat.pdf to do this, but I don't want you add manually the link every time I create A.pdf.  I want to create the link once in A.doc and did delay in time, and then open the b.pdf link in a new window.

I've seen suggestions on adding some HTML somewhere.  Unfortunately, they are not, that I'm viewing the PDF files in a browser.

I saw suggestions for using the CTRL key at the same time click on the link en.pdf.  Would not be practical, because I have no way to make sure that my users will know it.

I've seen suggestions on the use of JavaScript, but it would mean (I know) I have to add the JavaScript whenever I convert A.doc A.pdf.  Still, I won't have to do any post-processing of A.pdf after I got it to create.  I want the link in 'just work' A.doc after A.pdf is created, i.e. open b.pdf in a new window.

This * seems * like a simple thing to do, I hope there is a simple solution.

BTW, I'm using Word 2007 and Acrobat X.

    Thanks for your help!

    Dave

I use Word 2003 and Acrobat 10 and links created as you describe defaults to 'new window '.

You have the 'Open links in the same interdocument window' unchecked in Edit > Preferences > Documents?

.. sounds too easy... (and your users will probably have to make the change even if they need this behavior, unless you have a very techno IT department that can deploy configuration files large company).

  • Open another site in a new browser window

I can't create links to external sites that open as expected in a new browser window, the main browser window leaving unaltered. Except in Safari on a Mac. See the code example.

In Safari on Mac, this opens the new window and behaves as I would. In Safari on a PC, it opens a new window, but in the back. In Firefox on the Mac, I get an error message in which, when the 'OK' button is cliked, a new window opens behind the main window. Same thing on a PC. Opens a new window of Internet Explorer on a PC, but displays an error message forcing you to click the back button to return to the home page.
If I specify the url of the home page in the link field, the homepage gets reset then upward, that I don't want.
How can I get FireFox and IE to achieve this graciously?
To observe the behavior go to http://www.digifon.com/framesetal_id.htm

Do not use frames. However, the question of opening a new window is always
hotly debated. My approach is to mark the link with an icon and
then to open a new window (or tab if the user prefers). If done
correctly with javascript, this will not result in a myriad of windows and
According to the standards. (And besides, if javascript is disabled, the new page
simply opens in the current window.)

According to this philosophy, I offer you a DW Extension, which makes the addition of this
dead simple behavior. Here is an example of a page that uses it to good
advantage. Despite all the external links and pdf on page links.
the Extension should only be added once the page, rather than
Add to each link. Links added to the page AFTER the
Extension is applied ALSO acted upon, saving time in my
notice and easy on the user:

  • Suddenly cannot link to topics in other projects of the child

I use RoboHelp 10 HTML to publish WebHelp on a network server.

I have 11 projects merged with about 3100 topics.

After several years of using this method, all of a sudden, I am unable to link to topics within other projects were merged under the same parent. I can create external links outside merged as usual assistance. In this case whatever the project that I'm trying.

When I use the Hyperlink dialog box, select the link to: 'File', then navigate to the desired topic. I click on the 'Open' button to return to the Hyperlink dialog box. When I click on the 'OK' button, nothing happens, except a color change indicating I am in contact with the key.

I've searched the forums and none of the scenarios/solutions seem to match my dilemma. I have reinstalled RoboHelp on my PC.  I tried to delete the old file of DPC. None have resulted in a solution.Capture.JPG

Sorry, but I don't really know what could cause this. I've never seen it mentioned before or met.

You are able to test the same project on a different machine?

  • How can link to external files - I insert hyperlinks to another project?

Hi, I am trying to learn how to use RoboHelp HTML (I use RoboHelp10), and, unfortunately, I have to work on a project that someone else has started some time ago.

The thing is, I have 2 separate projects, each with their own files, will that ultimately generated in 2 files separate chm and used in the same software (probably merged, but I don't know yet).

A project needs to have hyperlinks across multiple pages htm to the subjects of the other project. I read the help provided by Adobe RoboHelp, but I don't know that I understand:

    Link to external files

    • Choose a location for link in the design editor.
    • Enter text.
    • Highlight the text and click Insert Hyperlink .
    • Click on the triangle button next to link to, and then select the file.
    • Browse to a file, open it and copy it to the folder of the project. -Is this file the individual .htm containing my topic or the .chm generated from all the files in the project htm? Where in the project folder devrais I copy it? (my project .chm file is generated in the.) SSL! folder).

Generate the file in order to test the links to external topics.

    WebHelp projects
The external file must be distributed in the WebHelp folder.
    Microsoft HTML Help projects

The external file must be distributed with the CHM file. Note: the external CHM file must be in the same folder as the CHM project file.
    - I'm going to generate a Microsoft HTML Help project, so the second spec probably applies. Does this mean that external chm must be copied in the! SSL! folder where I generate my current chm and distributed together, so that hyperlinks will work?

Sorry if my question may sound a little silly, I'm not very adept at this software. Thanks in advance.

    Christina

    Hello

They will either be in the same folder or they will need to be registered by Windows. Otherwise, we have no idea that the other exists.

  • Captivate 5 opening of another project - link is incorrect

I have a Captivate 5 project that uses a "main project" to open various 'under' projects.  I have published all projects such as exe (I also tried editing swf and htm to see if the problem is specific to the .exe but I have this problem with both methods), all projects are accessed using a click box, which, if successful, will open another project.  All my sub projects opens correctly except one.  When you click on this project, it shows an error that displays the path to the .htm file only?  I find it weird because I tried only editing like .exe, is therefore to associate without file .htm (or I do not understand how it works?).  Here's the funny part, the path to the nonexistent .htm file is missing a return back as you can see below.

    3-29-2011 5-09-40 PM.gif

I tried to recreate the click box, but it does not work.  I copied another box of click of work who open a different project.  The click box works until I have change the project that it points to and then I get the same error.

Another thing, when I go to link the project from the drop-down list displays several projects with the same name.

    3-29-2011 5-15-04 PM.gif

even if I have only one instance of the project in my folder by default.  I tried to empty the cache to see if that get rid of duplicates, but it did not work.  I also installed captivate on another computer, copied over my project files, deleted the click box and recreated and received the same error message.  He pointed to the new location on the new computer, but lacked a "------" makes the link not valid.

I published my computers not assigned as swf and htm project and copied to the location specified in the error, but it does not work.

Any ideas?  I ran out of things to try.

    Thank you

    Tika

Captivate the default behavior is to set up an absolute connection to the target file, not a relative link, which is what you will need to be if ever you want to migrate your content to another location, for example a web server.

If you can see that the URL is incorrect, change it. You must manually edit the link that Captivate automatically creates for you and it becomes a relative link that points to the target HTM file.

If you don't know how to build links, do some googling on the subject.  It's something everyone who works with web content needs to know how to do.
