Linksys WRT160N

I just bough Linksys WRT160N and replace the old one (Thompson router).

I followed the installation CD. But when it's over, there is no connection to the internet.

If the yellow connector have 8 'PINE '.

And my DSL of the wall have only 4 (connector 4-pin, but with only 2 wires)

How can I make this work?

You will need a DSL modem to connect the WRT to your ADSL line. I guess your old Thompson had a built-in modem. Thompson still works, you should be able to put Thompson in "bridge" mode and use it as a simple DSL modem. Then, you need to configure your WRT for PPPoE (if that's what your ISP uses) to connect to the internet via the DSL modem.

  • Need help with Linksys WRT160N!

I had a Linksys WRT160N (version 1) for a few years. I plugged it on my desk, followed by a VOIP router and a cable modem. Internet through Comcast cable with typical 15 to 20 Mbps DL and around 4 Mbps UL (via Speedtest.net and Speakeasy). My only wireless connections have been a Wii and PS3 without any speed problems (both tested).

I just got a netbook Samsung N150 Plus with Win7 Starter and my DL speed is only 0.5-0.7 MB/s but UL is always around 4 Mbps. But only on the netbook... everything else is fine. I tried everything to fix this... updated the firmware on the router, tested the netbook on a different wireless network to ensure that it was not the wireless adapter (works fine), checked computer wired (works fine), tried different channels, tried to turn filtering off, tried to disable the firewall, tried to disable the blocking of anonymous requests etc. I read through other posts and the consensus was to get a new router. I can't believe this is my only option. Am I completely missing a simple difficulty here? Help, please!

Thanks (and bear with me as I'm not as technically savvy as maybe others).

OK... I had finally straightened it. I downloaded the latest version of EasyLink Advisor on my desktop and just rested on my network software. Wireless on my netbook DL speed went from 0.5 Mbps to 15 Mbps. I don't know why... all I know is that I couldn't install the LELA original (from included CD) on Windows 7 (x 86) although I managed to install the network very well (new PC is around the age of 6 months... used to have XP). Nothing has changed in the configuration of the router settings (at least not manually), so I'm not sure why it works now that LELA is installed on the Windows 7 desktop. If anyone knows I'm curious to know why this is... just in case someone else he meets and needs information.

  • Linksys WRT160n SPI Firewall

I recently installed a Linksys WRT160n mainly to its advantage as a hardware firewall. I chose the wireless router because I intend to buy a laptop later. In the meantime, since I don't need wireless, I disabled the it. This router always provide firewall protection to my PC with the wired connection until I SPI Firewall Protection enabled?

    Thanks for help.  Alton

The WRT is NAT that will make your inaccessible since the internet LAN unless you configure port forwarding, port triggering, DMZ or compatible UPnP host. The SPI Firewall protects especially the router.

  • Router LinkSys WRT160N V2 does not recognize my USB SMC EZ Connect 11 Mbps Wireless

I have a Linksys WRT160N V2 router. So far I have correctly connected, using two 'wired' connections, my laptop and the printer. I was able to add two DS, Wii, wireless, another laptop and a PC. The laptop that connected wireless uses the D-Link wireless device and the PC uses an other SMC wireless device. All these things correctly connect through wireless connections. The last PC I tied to conenct uses USB SMC EZ Connect 11 Mbps Wireless. This computer can actually 'see' the Linksys router and this is the SSID. When I try to connect to him, he thinks about it for about 5-10 seconds and then fate and says "Detected wireless networks". Ironically, a neighbor also has a Linksys router. Its protected by WEP, but for some reason, my PC is ready to connect to the Linksys router (has a different SSID), but since I do not know the WEP key (I don't want to actually connect to sound at least) it shows the strength of connection 11 Mbit/s and of course, does not have an IP address. Why my router does not recognize my Wireless Linksys router? I even used the LELA 'Search' application for new devices, and he can't find it, all the while my PC 'sees' the router and fails to connect. Someone knows why? FYI, the PC in question just had XP loaded on it (total reconstruction) and has never been only once on the interent.

If you have disable wireless security is disabled, and if still you are not connect to your wireless network, then I think you should try upgrading the drivers for your SMC card, once you update the drivers for you adapter after this you can try to connect to your wireless network.

  • Cannot connect by Satellite A305 Linksys WRT160N wireless

I have a Satellite A305-S6839 with Windows Vista Edition Home Premium that I tried to connect wireless to a Linksys Wireless - N WRT160N router but I am unable to get the service.
I can configure the router and it transmits properly, but for some reason that I can't connect to it. I tried to reboot several times that the manufacturer suggested unplugging the cables, but that did not work. I suspect that there are drivers I need to download for this operation.

    Someone give some advice?

First, visit the Toshiba support site we and install the latest BIOS and Wifi Driver.

Second, try to change the Wifi settings-Wifi card-> properties > Device Manager. Increase power output, select "802. 11 g-only", turn off energy-saving.

  • Linksys WRT160N V2 Mac help?

I came down for the summer at home with my parents and it seems that they have disconnected the router that I put in place around Christmas time last year - and now I forgot the password. I know that the password for the WiFi network general, but I don't remember what I put for access network (e.g. 192.168.1.1) is there a way to reset it? My parents have a ye olde Mac Tiger and refuse to upgrade. Nevertheless, I have a WRT160N and when I go to use the installation/setup disk it always comes back with something in the sense of "I'm sorry, we can not recognize your gateway" or something like that. I've tried everything I can for the past hour and have no idea what I'm doing wrong (when it asks for a password to the beginning of the month I do not always do anything, I click on the "I won't need this" (or whatever he said, I took a break and decided to ask for help).) I think what happened is that when my parents or the person abducted the router, the computer is now looking for the original (which I have no idea as to why). I hooked everything exactly the way the software says (ethernet to PC, internet to the router to the Modem, etc.) ... still nothing. Can anyone help?

Nevermind, I ended up unplugging the modem ! Then I googled after the modem restarted, it was fine then. Good luck to anyone having this problem!

  • Linksys Router WRT160N - Wireless does not connect to the cable modem

I installed the Linksys WRT160n router to replace an existing G router. When installed the new wireless router works, but the router does not receive a connection (IP address - look under status) of the cable modem (so no internet). When I reconnect the old router and then connect the new router, I get any internet connection through two routers (so the old dishes router the IP address that accepts the new router).

I have configured the router N new for

"Automatic configuration - DHCP", no need for connection, IP address dynamic, etc (as required by ISP - Timewarner)

I tried to renewal and release IP address by the router N when it is connected directly to the main switch (the switch to connect to the cable modem). In so doing, shouldn't that assign a new IP address to the router?

I am allowed 3 IPs from the cable company (because of the switch) and I use all three with three different internet IP cameras to each address for home security system.

Any suggestions on why the router is not connecting to the internet? Do I need to reboot physically everything on the network, including the cable modem?

If I understand your post, you said that your ISP gives you 3 Internet IP addresses and you have 3 cameras that use one of these Internet IP addresses.  If this is correct, then that leaves no IP Internet address for your WRT160N use - so that would explain why your WRT160N cannot get an Internet connection.

If I misread your post, and you have an Internet IP address available for the WRT160N, you might have a problem with your modem and two WRT160N tries to use the same 192.168.1.x subnet.  To check this, follow these steps:

    (1) Please indicate addresses that use your cameras (IE before you take the test below).  If the addresses do not begin with 192.168, then erase the last half of each address.

    (2) Please indicate your ISP

    (3) Please indicate the make and exact model of your modem (not the WRT160N) number.

    (4) Please do the following test:

Put your entire network.  Disconnect the switch (including cameras) to the modem.  Using an ethernet cable, connect your modem directly to your computer.  (Do not use the WRT160N for this test).  Turn on the modem and the computer.  Make sure you have an active Internet connection, then go ahead with what follows: (even if your Internet connection does not work, include this and move forward.)

Go to 'Start' > all programs > Accessories > command prompt.
A black DOS window will appear. Type "ipconfig/all" (with no quotes), and press the Enter key.   Copy all results in your next post.  To make the copy, highlight the results, and then use the keys copy (Ctrl-c) and paste (Ctrl-v) keys.  If your "IP address" does not begin with 192.168, then for security reasons, delete the latter half of your IP address.

  • Can I use my WRT160N V1 as a signal booster/access point?

I have a router Linksys WRT160N I want to use it as an access point for the devices in my basement. The main modem is a century link PK5001A. How could I go to set it up?

Yes cascade would be wired AP.

If you mean you want to change the WRT in a wireless Repeater that is different. In this case, you are lucky DD - WRT is compatible with V1.

    http://www.DD-WRT.com/site/support/router-database

Change the firmware for this 3rd part and configure the WRT as wireless Repeater. It is not easy to config but there is a lot of documentation for DD - WRT.

  • Linksys bridge to extend your wireless Signal

    Hello

I just installed a Linksys WRT160N router. The signal started of good about 50 to 70 feet of the location of routers. Now the signal is part as low in many, 54 Mbps. I was wondering what options I might have to install a wireless for the expansion of the signal bridge. I configured a network encrypted with WPA2. Any advice would be appreciated to help me buy the right bridge. Also, I wonder what would be the technical difficulty to install and configure. I have configure the WRT160N myself if it means something.

    Hello TooManyDonuts,

I updated the firmware on routers to the latest version. He used the firmware from 2007. I have udated the Intel wireless adapter to a newer version of the driver. I choose channel 8 in the range of 2.4 Gig for the router and choose channel 8 for the adapter.  I increased a couple of options for the adapter wireless beyond the default option. I don't have that options a, B and G for the adatper, no N option. I guess that you may not have everything. Now the signal is very good (54 Mbit/s) and I always use WPA2-Personal. Thanks for your help, it worked.

    Thank you

  • WRT160N router broadcasts not Internet

    Hello

I had a Linksys WRT160N router for about 7 years and recently started having a few problems with it. I guess it is old and needs to be replaced, but before I got up to get a new one I wanted to check.

The connection displays the full bars, but gives the error that there is limited internet access. I am still in the same room with it when using the computer, did sit no more than 5 to 10 feet away. When I plug my computer directly into the modem, then there is no problem, that's why I'm assuming that it is the router. I tried to look for similar problems in the forums, but if I missed the appropriate thread, I'm sorry in advance. Also, I'm not sure what information would be required to solve problems so I'll add some to start basic info:

Description: Intel (r) brand double wireless AC 3160

    DHCP enabled: Yes

    IPv4 address: 192.168.1.1

    iPv4 subnet mask: 255.255.255.0

IPv4 Default Gateway, DHCP server, WINS Server and DNS server are all: 192.168.1.100

    Thanks in advance,

    Liz

You have tried all the steps and I would say that the router has served you well. I think that now is the best time to upgrade to the latest model.

    Hello

I use the Linksys WRT160N V3 to test some applications of ambedded.

I need to adjust the operating speed of the router at 100 Mbps. (or at least to know what speed it is currently supported)

Is it possible to do? I looked towards the top of the home page of router and couldn't find anything concrete.

    You can not change this.

  • The router WRT160N supports VDSL?

My company just Internet me improved to a higher speed package. My speed, as verified by usual speed tests, is LOW.

The WRT160N is not the speed of the VDSL connection.
