Linksys WRT160n v3 and dynamic IP address

Welcome,
I use TImeWarner cable to internet.
These days tw uses dynamic IP addresses.
So my "WRT160n v3" breaks down, when this change takes place.
Is it possible to configure the "WRT160n v3" to handle this?

I have networkMagicBasic.

If not, can a Belkin 'N750 DB' manage dynamic addressing?

Thanks for your help... Vernon

  • WRT160N: Getting dynamic IP address 169

    Hello!

Linksys WRT160N, bought yesterday and I want it behaves same way did my Buffalo WHR-HP-G54. So I live in apartment building for students, and we don't have modems, just the RJ-45 ports in the wall. If I plug the cable directly from the wall of the network card in my computer, my computer receives the dynamic ip address from the ISP. With my Buffalo, I connected the ethernet to the WAN sa-port cable and changed the router in bridge mode. In this way, there was 4 other ports free for the other PC and of course wireless too much for the other PC. Each PC connected via the Buffalo had a dynamic ip address from ISP, up to five addresses, which is the limit of my ISP. I plugged the ethernet cable from the wall of WRT160N Internet port and disabled NAT, dynamic routing (RIP) and DHCP server on the router Linksys, so all my computers have addresses ip starting with 169. And when I plug the ethernet cable from the wall to a port other than Internet-port of Linksys, all computers get the correct IP addresses via a wireless cable. What is wrong, is at - it a setting I have not seen? Some setting that I can use Internet-port and have other 4 free ports for other devices and other devices can get dynamic IP from my ISP.

Ignore the Scrooge. What he wrote has nothing to do with your problem.

Unlike the Buffalo WHR the Linksys doesn't have a configuration option or switch to alternate between the 'bridge' and the router mode. The Linksys always uses the internet port on a different interface of the numbered ports. You can't fill.

For example, if you want to 'bridge' with the Linksys is the configuration you already have when wiring from the outlet ports numbered, i.e. do not use the internet port. You will have to "give up" the internet port then. If you need more wired ports, you must connect a switch to the router.

  • WAG325N, DHCP, and the DSL dynamic IP address

Hello. I have problems with the implementation of my router, a Linksys WAG325N. My internet connection is DSL. According to my ISP, I have no username or password for my account because my connection uses a DYNAMIC IP ADDRESS. The operator of my ISP tells me that for my WIFI connection all I have to do is to set it to DHCP. That's all. My ISP does not help me because they sell another brand of routers with their DSL...

My default IP address is 192.168.1.1

I use to access the control panel of the CIsco modem. No matter what I do, the light of the internet on the router is always Red; the power, ethernet, DSL, and wireless lights are all yellow.

    What should I do?

Thanks in advance and MERRY CHRISTMAS to all!

    Finally fixed it!

    Here's what I did:

Encapsulation: RFC2684 Bridged (thank you GV!)

    Multiplexing: LLC

Called my service provider for these values:

    VPI: 0

    VIDEO RECORDER: 100

So that anyone who is going to be having the same problem I did find this:

My ISP is PLDT MyDSL. My linksys model is WAG325N.

    Merry Christmas to all!

    Thank you once again, GV!

  • Router LinkSys WRT160N V2 does not recognize my USB SMC EZ Connect 11 Mbps Wireless

I have a Linksys WRT160N V2 router. So far I have correctly connected, using two 'wired' connections, my laptop and the printer. I was able to add two DS, Wii, wireless, another laptop and a PC. The laptop that connected wireless uses the D-Link wireless device and the PC uses an other SMC wireless device. All these things correctly connect through wireless connections. The last PC I tied to conenct uses USB SMC EZ Connect 11 Mbps Wireless. This computer can actually 'see' the Linksys router and this is the SSID. When I try to connect to him, he thinks about it for about 5-10 seconds and then fate and says "Detected wireless networks". Ironically, a neighbor also has a Linksys router. Its protected by WEP, but for some reason, my PC is ready to connect to the Linksys router (has a different SSID), but since I do not know the WEP key (I don't want to actually connect to sound at least) it shows the strength of connection 11 Mbit/s and of course, does not have an IP address. Why my router does not recognize my Wireless Linksys router? I even used the LELA 'Search' application for new devices, and he can't find it, all the while my PC 'sees' the router and fails to connect. Someone knows why? FYI, the PC in question just had XP loaded on it (total reconstruction) and has never been only once on the interent.

If you have disable wireless security is disabled, and if still you are not connect to your wireless network, then I think you should try upgrading the drivers for your SMC card, once you update the drivers for you adapter after this you can try to connect to your wireless network.

  • Linksys WRT160N

I just bough Linksys WRT160N and replace the old one (Thompson router).

I followed the installation CD. But when it's over, there is no connection to the internet.

    1 Linksys WRT160N image back

If the yellow connector have 8 'PINE '.

And my DSL of the wall have only 4 (connector 4-pin, but with only 2 wires)

How can I make this work?

You will need a DSL modem to connect the WRT to your ADSL line. I guess your old Thompson had a built-in modem. Thompson still works, you should be able to put Thompson in "bridge" mode and use it as a simple DSL modem. Then, you need to configure your WRT for PPPoE (if that's what your ISP uses) to connect to the internet via the DSL modem.

  • Need help with Linksys WRT160N!

I had a Linksys WRT160N (version 1) for a few years. I plugged it on my desk, followed by a VOIP router and a cable modem. Internet through Comcast cable with typical 15 to 20 Mbps DL and around 4 Mbps UL (via Speedtest.net and Speakeasy). My only wireless connections have been a Wii and PS3 without any speed problems (both tested).

I just got a netbook Samsung N150 Plus with Win7 Starter and my DL speed is only 0.5-0.7 MB/s but UL is always around 4 Mbps. But only on the netbook... everything else is fine. I tried everything to fix this... updated the firmware on the router, tested the netbook on a different wireless network to ensure that it was not the wireless adapter (works fine), checked computer wired (works fine), tried different channels, tried to turn filtering off, tried to disable the firewall, tried to disable the blocking of anonymous requests etc. I read through other posts and the consensus was to get a new router. I can't believe this is my only option. Am I completely missing a simple difficulty here? Help, please!

Thanks (and bear with me as I'm not as technically savvy as maybe others).

OK... I had finally straightened it. I downloaded the latest version of EasyLink Advisor on my desktop and just rested on my network software. Wireless on my netbook DL speed went from 0.5 Mbps to 15 Mbps. I don't know why... all I know is that I couldn't install the LELA original (from included CD) on Windows 7 (x 86) although I managed to install the network very well (new PC is around the age of 6 months... used to have XP). Nothing has changed in the configuration of the router settings (at least not manually), so I'm not sure why it works now that LELA is installed on the Windows 7 desktop. If anyone knows I'm curious to know why this is... just in case someone else he meets and needs information.

  • How to change (dynamic) IP address in Windows 7 or Vista?

Had the same problem on Vista, upgrade to Win7 and the question remains.

I have a dynamic IP address from ISP, but it remains as if it was static, what allows to work in XP and previous versions of Windows no longer works in Vista or 7. I talked to my ISP (3 times, 3 different Tech), they said that my IP is dynamic and confirmed he is not defined by them as static. They charge more for a static IP, it would just give me this free 'upgrade'. They had "no idea" how to force/change a new IP address in Vista or 7.

Please! Don't bother suggesting to run ipconfig/flushdns / release / renew at the prompt to as suggested by each internet search, this DOES NOT WORK. This was done with the prompt window of cmd under "Run As Administrator".

Please! Read everything I've done here before suggesting something, I have tried or have tested and proven to work/not work.

Here are other things that I've tried, WHO ALSO DO NOT WORK:

(NOTE: no router is used, directly connected, CAT5, NIC the modem PC broadband)
-Modem unplugged 72 hours left. No change
-A the ISP send me a new modem. No change
    -Uninstalled NIC. No change
-Change IP4 settings to "Obtain automatically" to a forced IP made-up, rebooted, then changed back to auto. No change

So, with all this 'old school' stuff already tried and failed, that changed in Vista and 7 which seems to keep the same dynamic IP static? When Windows is put in cache or store this information, so I can delete it, none of the traditional methods of work. I absolutely can't stand having a static IP address on my computer at home.

If you search on the internet this exact question you will find what I have, everyone is suggesting to the methods of work time I tried already above, but people using Vista or 7 are several times to find it no longer works.

Here is some information, which confirms the IP address is not stored in my modem, or assigned to the MAC address of my NIC...

If I start this same PC with a LINUX Live CD, type using the same MAC address and the NIC, he gets another IP address whenever it restarts. The question clearly has nothing to do with my ISP, modem or PC in general.

If I get hot swap my modem to another PC, the other PC Gets a fresh (different) IP address. If this another PC using XP I can force the ipconfig/release / renew to change its IP address.

If the other PC running Vista, the IP address remains static, no matter what I try, unless the hard drive is wiped and Vista is re-installed, then he gets a new IP on the PC with the pure install, but it can not be changed after what is happening.

If clear, Windows Vista and Windows 7 have somewhere IP configuration information and re-use of this information when it detects that you are using the same internet provider, WHERE is it stored so I can delete it?

I thank you much if you have a working solution and actually know the answer, instead of reading everything that can already be found by a search engine and repost info which is no longer valid, as all the world on the internet is doing in trying to answer this question.

I think I found a solution. It has worked for me so I guess it could work for you.

    1. find your IP address for example to go to a site such as http://www.whatismyip.com/ it will show you your IP address.
    2 copy.
    3. open network & sharing Center
    4. open the network properties you what your IP to change. In my case, it's an EVDO modem.
    5. on the network tab, double-click TCP/IPv4, which will open a window to change the IP and DNS IP address.
    6. in this window click on "use following IP address" and paste this IP address you copied in step 2.
7 change the last digit of the IP address to any value above him for example if its 192.168.23.123 change the last digit to something like 122 so that the IP address becomes 192.168.23.122.
    8. click on OK until that close all windows.
    9 disconnect from this network.
10 reconnect to this network and if it goes as planned the ISP should force a dynamic IP address. Check http://www.whatismyip.com/ if it has changed. If you can not browse, go to step 6, and then select "Obtain an IP address automatically" and then disconnect-> reconnect to the network.
It worked for me so I don't know if it will work for you. Your comments will be greatly appreciated.
  • Difference between static and dynamic encryption card

Anyone tell me the difference between static and dynamic encryption card?

    Hi Rodrigo,

Public static crypto map - identifies by the peers and traffic to encrypt explicitly. Generally used to host some tunnels with different profiles and characteristics (different partners, sites, location)

So, when you have the information of the two peers than what policies we're going to use, what is the IP on both devices we normally use static VPN.

Crypto dynamic map - is one of the ways to accommodate peer sharing the same characteristics (for example, several offices of branches share the same configuration) or peers with dynamic IP addressing (DHCP, etc.)

    For more information, please visit:

  • VPN site to Site if a distance ASA has a dynamic IP address outside

    Hello

I always try to find the right commands for dynamic VPN to VPN from Site to Site.

I found something on the set by the peers command, but is exactly what I want to do?

Static IP on both ASA (asa5505 and asa5510):

    peer set card crypto outside_map 1 192.168.178.230<== that="" ist="" for="" a="" static="" if="" i="" know="" the="">

    A (asa5510) static and dynamic (asa5505) IP:

    by default dynamic value of the card crypto-outside_map 1-set peer asa5505<== is="" that="" the="" right="" set="">

If the ASA remote called asa5505 and he has a dynamic IP address?

    Kind regards

    Hans-Jürgen Guenter

Yes, you need not the 3 lines above in the configuration. Those who are kept on the static end to accept the connection from the dynamic counterpart.

You need not order 'set by the peers' you don't have a static ip address for the dynamics of the end.

  • Independent migration of LWAPP and dynamic interfaces on the controller 4404

We are currently migrating from a stand-alone environment. Access points currently take wireless clients and put

their right in separate VLANs that SSID that they associate with. Each SSID is another customer

So we are essentially acting as a service provider. We try not to get involved with the functions of layer 3.

Each range of IP of SSID is ordered by a customer or a third party. So far, we didn't specify an address from DHCP server, the client is getting on one VLAN and it is up to the customer to assign their own intellectual property details.

Now that we're migrating to LWAPP I found the following-

-J' need to specify an IP address for each dynamic IP address for each WLAN

-J' need to specify a DHCP server for each dynamic IP address for each WLAN

Because I have no control of the PPE, I put in the details of false dynamic Interface but the correct address of the DHCP server.

    It seems to work.

    My questions are as follows:-

1 / is there a way I can simply place clients in a VIRTUAL LAN using LWAPP equipment so we didn't

get involved with Layer 3 configuration?

2 / I noticed when I got a DHCP address on a test laptop client, the DHCP server is 1.1.1.1. The only thing in the network that I know is the virtual IP address of the controller that is used for groups of mobility. Is this normal?

3/on the controller is the query DHCP has passed from the management or the dynamic interface?

3 / What is the IP address of the dynamic interface actually used for? At the beginning I forge the DHCP server use it as a source, but my setup works with a bogus address.

Welcome to the world of LWAPP! It's a pretty confusing to get, so I hope I can answer some of your questions.

Before directly answering your questions, I want to give you a little if a glimpse as to how traffic flows in LWAPP environment. All traffic LWAPP is placed in a tunnel to the controller (this is why LWAPP APs is no longer need to switch trunk links). Traffic is désencapsulé and sent to the appropriate interface switching environment (management or dynamic). The source address for traffic is changed to match the control interface for traffic must return to the controller in order to get the customer. For example, IP addresses are required on the controller.

    1. think of the controller as a layer 3 switch that masks the identity of its customers. By sourcing all traffic from itself, it ensures that all traffic comes back to him, how it forwards traffic to the client via the LWAPP tunnel. False addresses you entered are actually being used on the network, then you will want to register those with the people in charge. If someone uses this address, it will eventually drop your wireless network.

    2. it is normal. The virtual IP address is also used for DHCP service. Because the controller blocks all emissions, it must the DHCP proxy for each client, where the virtual IP address as well as the need to specify the address of the DHCP server.

    3. I don't know what interface it gets passed on. Maybe someone else can answer.

    4. see above for a description of what it is.

One last thing. What, exactly, are these fake addresses to which you refer? They are real addresses which comes with? They correspond to the VLAN that you places on? You give them suitable default gateways?

Don't forget that by configuring these, they are real addresses on your network that you should be able to ping. And yet once, if the address is duplicated on the network, it has the potential to get to the bottom of your wireless network.

Let me know if this can help, and if you have any other questions!

    Jeff

  • Using VPN L2L static and dynamic dedicated tunnels

We have an ASA 5510 running 8.0 at our company headquarters. We have remote sites who need to create VPN L2L at the HQ ASA tunnels. Some remote sites have static IP addresses and others have dynamic IP addresses.

I found documentation Cisco L2L static IP VPN tunnels and make them work. I found another Cisco documentation for static IP dynamic L2L VPN tunnels using the tunnel-group "DefaultL2LGroup".

My question is, can you have two types of tunnels on the same ASA L2L? If so, simply by using the definitions of "DefaultL2LGroup" tunnel-group and of tunnel-group work? Is there a reason to not do? Is better technology (ASA HQ and a combination of ASA 5505 and 1861 at remote sites) available?

Yes, you can have both types of tunnels L2L. If you use a PSK - remember that the IP address of the remote site is used to 'validate' to connect to Headquarters. As long as you use a sure PSK = 64 characters and all with upper/lower case alpha numeric - you should be OK.

A better way to do it - is to get the static IP addresses for the site that currently have DHCP from ISP.

  • With a dynamic IP address DMVPN spoke

A DMVPN Hub-and-Spoke scenario. Hub is in HQ Corporate whileSpokes are based on Internet only. No idea how I could establish peering relationship if the rays are assigned dynamic IP address? He should learn via PNDH?

I wonder how Zero Touch (ZTD) deployment point in the documentation for the rays...

    Hello Gerard,.

While the CENTER should have a static IP address, speak it may have a dynamic IP, this isn't a problem.

The hub is called a NHS (the next hop server). Basically, when the RADIUS will bring up the tunnel, he is recorded to the NHS via PNDH, so the hub will be a dynamic mapping of public IPs private rays.

The only thing is that you must manually set the address IP of NHS at the rays so that they can register.

    Hope this helps.

  • Cisco ASA and dynamic VPN L2L Fortigate configuration

I met a problem recently with an ASA 5510 (7.0) and a bunch of Fortigate 50 (3.0 MR7). The ASA is the hub and Fortigates are rays with a dynamic public IP.

I followed this document on the site Web of Cisco (http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/ps6120/products_configuration_example09186a00805733df.shtml) to set up my ASA and the parameters passed to my counterparts to set up their Fortigates.

However, the ASA journal reveals that attemtps Fortigate connection always tried with DefaultRAGroup before falling back to DefaultL2LGroup and finally died. Experience with putting in place a dynamic VPN between Cisco and Fortigate someone? Which could not fail at each end? Here's a typical piece of error log ASA. The ASA is currently having a static VPN tunnel and a site-2-client VPN in two groups by default.

Yes, sounds about right. He will try to match with the DefaultRAGroup first, and when you know that it's a dynamic IPSec in LAN-to-LAN, it will be

then back to the DefaultL2LGroup, because he doesn't know if the VPN Client or L2L again when he is contacted fist as they are connecting from dynamic IP peer.

You must ensure that your L2L tunnel-group by default has been configured with the corresponding pre-shared key.

Assuming that you have configured the dynamic map and assign to the card encryption.

Here is an example of configuration where ASA has a static and peripheral ip address pair has dynamic IP:

  • Server 2008 (R2): dcpromo fails due to dynamic IP addresses

It is my first installation of Windows Server 2008. Maybe someone has an experience with this?

I installed Windows Server 2008 R2 in a VMWare environment. For networking, I chose Host-only in VMWare Workstation and installed Windows Server 2008 R2 Standard.

After that, I added the AD DS role for my installation of Windows Server 2008 R2 and run DCPROMO. EXE...

The arrested installation process between the two because of the dynamic IP addresses. I went into the properties of the LAN adapter and changed from a static IPv6 address. (I disabled IPv4).

After that restart dcpromo still refuses to go beyond the point where it looks for dynamic IP addresses. He seems not to recognize the static I chose.

There may be something to do with my computer? I don't think he has a related issue R2 because Active Directory has not changed "r1".

    Any help is appreciated.
