LPT1 mapping to a shared printer

Try map LPT1 port to a shared printer:

C:\Users\levander\Desktop>net use lpt1 \\cracker\crackermfc490cw
The password is invalid for \\cracker\crackermfc490cw.

Enter the user name for 'cracker': levander
Enter the password to crack:
System 5 error has occurred.

Access is denied.

I tried to let this empty user name, administrator in there, a few other things.  I always use the same password for everything on my home network because security is not matter that much.  And it is a machine that I just installed a few days ago.  I know I use the password to what I always use.  I also tried to leave empty.  Still get the same error messages.

I read something on the way to all windows above XP, a nonadministrator user cannot remap a parallel port that is assigned to a physical hardware device.  And, one might think that could cause the error messages I'm getting on it.  But, "levander' the user is an administrator on this computer.

When I try to map LPT2, I get this:

C:\Users\levander>net use lpt2 \\cracker\crackermfc490cw
The command completed successfully.

Then i:

C:\Users\levander\Desktop>print d:lpt2 hello.txt
C:\Users\levander\Desktop\hello.txt is currently being printed

and nothing happens.  I'll check the printer and is not print anything.

Any ideas what I am doing wrong?

I am running Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit.  I can print on the thin printer from Windows like Notepad applications, etc...

Hi Levander,

You can see if disable the LPT1 physical port in the Device Manager? This allows users to redirect LPT1.

1. go to start, type devmgmt.msc and press ENTER.

2. Expand Ports (COM & LPT).

3. right click on the printer (LPT1) Port, and then select Properties.

4. under "Use of the device", select "do not use this device (disabled)".

5. click on OK.

Disabling LPT1 port in Device Manager, it is a port logic (such as LPT2 or LPT3) instead of a physical port.

Also, here's a thread, you might want to consider who has the similar problem.

NET use LPT access denied

  • Oracle XE - UTL_FILE - shared printer

    Hello

I'm trying to recreate a production environment on XE.

I am trying to send an order to print to a shared printer (share name label01).

The computer that runs the XE database is called cobrademo.

    When I try the following command utl_file.fopen ('\\cobrademo\label01', 'test.txt', 'w'), I get the ora-29280 invalid directory path.

When I change the directory to a directory on the cobrademo machine, it works fine.

The solution of mapping to a shared printer util_file works also in production.

XE service runs as a user called OracleDBA, which has also been granted access to the shared printer.

    Any ideas?

    Thank you.

2 fundamental issues. The Oracle server must be able to resolve the NetBIOS hostname to an IP address. Second, the current Windows user that runs the Oracle server process, needs to have access to this UNC (reading and writing in your case).

A simple method to test is under this Windows user logon (usually Oracle) on the Oracle database server. Open a command console window. Type the following command:
    + {noformat} net view \\cobrademo{noformat}+

In the event of failure, then get the IP address of this server cobrademo and add similar following to c:\Windows\System32\Drivers\Etc\lmhosts :
    cobrademo

If the net view command to work, trying to access (read, write or card) NetBIOS label01 called service/share. For example
    + {noformat} echo "This is a test" > \\cobrademo\label0{noformat}+

This should work in an automated way - so no input from keyboard/user for example, specify a user name and/or password to perform NetBIOS calls and access work.

PS. Note that this is not a question related to PL/SQL or SQL languages. Please choose a forum appropriate for the subject of your question in the future. Thank you.

  • Windows 8 forget my mapped network drives and printer settings

I have a Dell Precision M4400 I have upgraded from Windows XP to Windows 8 a few months ago.  At work, I have mapped network drives shared on two different servers (called "appsrvr" and "wsbs2008") and use a network HP LaserJet P4014 printer.  At startup, Windows remembers always drives mapped on \\appsrvr\ but not \\wsbs2008\.  Each time you start and sometimes after sleep/hibernation, I have to re - map three drives \\wsbs2008\.  I always leave "Reconnect at sign-in" selected, but Windows 8 seems to have an anterograde amnesia.  It is irritating because I have a lot of files that I use on these drives.  It's bad enough, but it seems it can be related to a problem even more annoying, which is that Windows 8 does not remember that has LJ P4014 printer of a duplex unit installed.  Similarly, it seems to happen every time you start and after little sleep deep.  It is particularly irritating because I prefer to print pretty much any two-sided and it takes several steps more fix manually at least once a day via the control panel.  If I go to the control panel and you try to add a printer, I see two options:

"HP LaserJet 4014 on APPSRVR" - selection that immediately gives an error: Windows cannot connect to the printer.  Operation failed with error 0x0000007e.

"HP LaserJet 4014 on WSBS2008" - selection that gives "connect to HP LaserJet 4014 on WSBS2008.domain.local.  Looking for a driver.  Complete the installation.  Windows cannot connect to the printer.  Operation failed with error 0x0000007e.

I followed several instructions online to resolve this error, nothing helps.

I was finally able to connect with a limited fan support IT / desktop support person to the small company where I work.  According to the properties of the device, it is connected via a WSD port (whatever it is).

Did it come all worms down to Windows 8 plays not nice with CAT 2008 (FE Standard with SP2)?  Are there solutions to these problems other than asking the company to upgrade to a newer version of Windows Small Business Server?  Ironically, APPSRVR, which doesn't seem to have a problem with my computer has Windows Server 2003 Standard Edition Rev 2, and I had no problem with either when I had XP.  Remember, despite these problems, I like much better than XP Windows 8, but I like it much more if only he would remember my settings!

  • scanning using a shared printer

Hello, I shared a printer to a network via Airport Extreme.  Nothing wrong with printing, but the problem is that I can't scan using the same printer.

Is there anyway to scan a document using a shared printer? If so, how?

    Thank you.

Scan is owner of all the trademarks so no USB device can provide a universal testing service.

When you say shared printer is it connected via USB... then it may never work.

If the printer has network and connected by ethernet or wireless, it is quite different... you just need the correct printer software.

  • Windows XP Shared printer - can't connect from another domain

We have a shared printer on a Windows XP Pro WS, which is in a new area (we are currently migrating to a new domain... long story). This printer is shared with access to all Documents Print/manage the printers/manage. However, the machines in the old domain cannot connect to this printer. • driver problem sharing printer attached to the XP with Windows 7 pc client

Before submitting my question, I look into responses to something that would be useful. There were some similar issues, but neither the same as mine.

    I have a desktop pc XP/SP3 with a Canon IP4600 USB printer.

So far, I got a home network wired (through an ethernet switch) with another XP desktop PC 2, which the shared printer successfully.

Now, I replaced the ethernet switch with a wireless router that I have to also connect at least 1 laptop to network without cables more.

The laptop is running Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit.

I successfully setup the network wireless router/Win7 so machine Win7 has access to the Web. I can also see the shared folders on the XP Win7 pc and can also see the IP4600 printer.

When I try to add the printer so that I can print in Win7, it fails because it has no driver. I do not have a Win7 driver for this printer on each machine, so I downloaded it from the Canon Website on the Win7 pc. This is a huge 55MB EXE file zipped (must be a bunch of other 'apps' there, too, may not only be a pilot). The "Add printer" procedure looking for one. File INF so he does not see this file downloaded to extract the driver. When I run the EXE file, it starts a procedure facility, which quickly fails and leaves because he "cannot find the printer" (because it is physically on the XP pc...).

Please help me get a Win7 driver installed. I need to print from the Win7 pc quite urgent...

    Thanks in advance.

Canon is making things difficult for you.  Hidden in the small print that describing 55MO download is as follows.

This software is a module that extends the functionality of the printer driver for Canon inkjet printers. Your printer must be installed through Microsoft Update before you download and use this module.

In other words, downloading isn't actually the driver.  It is an update of the driver.

I don't have my Win 7 computer pulled upward at the moment, but when you get to the part of the Add Printer Wizard when you specify the brand and model of the printer to select a driver, make sure you check the box at the bottom of the list to allow the search on Windows Update Wizard.  Well with XP, it was a bad idea to get drivers through Windows Update, it seems that many drivers, including printer drivers, do not appear on the install of Win 7 media but is available through Windows Update.

Another part of the process that I vaguely remember last time I installed a shared printer on a Win 7 box, is that if you select "add a network, wireless or Bluetooth printer" the wizard cannot find the shared printer.  In this case, use the "Local printer" option and specify its address in the form \\computername\sharename (if there are spaces in the name, use double quotes around it).

    ******************************************
This is what I was referring in the last paragraph:

    5. install printers on a local network
If the printer is on a network, you may need to indicate to the Add Printer Wizard that you install a local printer, use LPT 1 as it is connected to the port and then change the port setting when the driver is installed. To change the port, go to the dialog box printers and devices, right click on the name of the printer, and then choose Properties from the printer (not to be confused with the properties). Select the Ports tab and the Add Port button. In most cases, you'll want to select Standard TCP/IP Port, click New Port, and then work your way through the rest of the screen of the wizard, enter the IP address of the printer in the corresponding dialog box.

I checked the permissions for the priners and I am logged in as one

everything seems to be oK. I also deleted and added the printer to the

Server, that I managed to install them as local printers on the affected XP machine

  • I can see other computers on a network of peer to peer windows XP but cannot access their shared files and the shared printer.

I can see other computers on a network of peer to peer windows XP but cannot access their shared files and the shared printer. The computers are connected by a switch, fixed IP addresses that are correctly configured and point to a DNS server outside the network. When I try to open the icon for one of the computers, he asked for credentials. I try to type the user name for the computer that is sharing the resource and the password. It is the user account whose computer is loged on and belongs to the Administrators group. for example: user name (Computer1\username) password (password). It does not work. The Windows Firewall is disabled on all computers. It worked well there 2 days. I can't find anything wrong with the network settings. Does anyone have a solution? Thank you.

If the portion of the machine has activated - Simple file sharing (i.e. it is XP Home or it is XP Pro with Simple (default) file sharing) - while all file sharing connections authenticate as user 'guest '.  It will not matter what username / password you provide, it will attempt to authenticate as 'guest '.  If the guest user has received a password or the guest account is not active, you will experience the symptoms you describe.

If the serving machine running XP Pro and Simple file sharing is disabled, then you should be able to connect by specifying the user as computer\user and the password to connect.  To turn off Simple file sharing:
