scanning using a shared printer

Hello, I shared a printer to a network via Airport Extreme.  Nothing wrong with printing, but the problem is that I can't scan using the same printer.

Is there anyway to scan a document using a shared printer? If so, how?

Thank you.

Scan is owner of all the trademarks so no USB device can provide a universal testing service.

When you say shared printer is it connected via USB... then it may never work.

If the printer has network and connected by ethernet or wireless, it is quite different... you just need the correct printer software.

I print on CD for a machine to Windows XP SP3 by using the Epsons Print CD employees. I recently installed a bigger HD, more memory and Win 7 Ultra 64 Bit N I have disabled the firewall on the computer of my Win 7 (temporarily) that allowed me to 'add printer' via IP.addr/sharename. I'm invited to the paswsword username, which I go without any problems. Next Win 7 search the printer driver. Since the XP machine doesn't have the driver for win 7 64 bit, it fails, check the update of the victory and ends by asking me to provide the *.inf file. I don't have any idea what inf file, he would like to see.

See if Epson has a Windows 7 compatible driver on their web site.  Install it and it should allow you to specify a printer connected to the network. Brian Tillman [MVP-Outlook]

Bought a printer from "all in one" 2540 yesterday - are unable to scan (Using Yosemite). Printing software uninstalled and reinstalled - no error just won't give any access to a facility to scan. Really angry against all printed HP suggestions and quite happy to return immediately and get a good printer/copier/scanner. Very, very angry that in 2015 stuff still just simply does not work, but they still sell. If there is a solution can someone tell me where it is printed?

    Hey there @Silvester1984!

Thanks for posting on the HP Forums!

I see that you are unable to scan.  I would be happy to provide you with some suggestions that may fix the problem.  The first thing I suggest is to test the Capture of IMage scanning.  Image capture is an application that is integrated into the Mac operating system that should allow you to scan.

To open Image Capture, click the spot light (in the shape of magnifying glass on the right)

    Type 'Image Capture '.

It should appear as the first option

    Open Image capture

Once you open the Image Capture, select your scanner from the left column of the window.  The scanner will be probably under "shared".  Once the selected scanner you should have options for the scan on the right side.  If you do not see many options then click on "View details" at the bottom of the window.  Scan using the Image Capture test to see if there is communication between the Mac and the scanner.

If please after back and let me know how it goes

    Hello.

According to the version of Mac OS x that is on your computer, you may need to scan using the software on your Mac.

If you use OS 10.11, please scan from the Scan IJ utility instead.  This program are in the Canon Utilities folder in Applications.

    HP Photosmart B209 more Pinter a - m

I am able, with a usb connection to scan from the printer to my computer;  I want to scan wireless to the printer on my computer.

    Thank you

    Hello Mocha7 ;

    Welcome to the HP forums!

I read your post on the analysis of the problems with your HP Photosmart Plus B209 a - m and wanted to help.

I don't have the same printer model, but I do not have other HP printers, and the process is essentially the same.  When you install the full exercise for the printer software, it installs a shortcut on the desktop that allows you to scan to PC.  I did it with two different HP network printers and it works the same for both.

So, you need to check that you have installed the complete service for the printer software. The linked page is for Win7 software and the driver for your printer: http://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers/selfservice/HP-Photosmart-Plus-All-in-One-Printer-series---B2/3777155/model/3777156

IF it shows no Windows 7 when you open it, click the Edit button and select Windows 7 from the pulldowns.

In addition, this link is to the page for your printer troubleshooting: http://support.hp.com/us-en/product/HP-Photosmart-Plus-All-in-One-Printer-series---B2/3777155/model/3777156/troubleshooting

Please note that there are two procedures, you should try to use: printing using doctor Scanand a communication or connection error ...  See if they are able to help you solve the problem of scanning.

    Good luck

  • Unable to scan using HP Deskjet Ink Advantage 2515

I'm unable to scan using my HP Deskjet Ink Advantage 2515.   I bought this product about 1.5 years back.  It was working fine then.  Now the printer works, but the scanner gives a not found error "HP Deskjet 2510".  OS: Windows 7 - printer connected via USB

I used the doctor HP Print and scan.  He repeatedly fails to the HP Twain scanning.   I also tried to disable mcafee firewall as suggested.  But without success.

AhalyaHello and welcome to the Forums of HP, I hope you enjoy your experience!

I see that you have problems with scanning.  I would try to help.

I would say uninstalling the software of the printer.

Once it is uninstalled, I suggest you put your system in clean boot mode in the configuration of Microsoft.  You can do this by following this document: How to perform a clean boot in Windows.

Once the computer is in clean boot mode, I would like to reinstall the HP printer install wizard for Windows.

Good luck and please let me know the results of your troubleshooting operations. Thanks for posting on the HP Forums!

  • Windows XP Shared printer - can't connect from another domain

We have a shared printer on a Windows XP Pro WS, which is in a new area (we are currently migrating to a new domain... long story). Hello
The question you posted would be better suited in the TechNet Forums. I would recommend posting your query in the TechNet Forums.
    It will be useful.
  • driver problem sharing printer attached to the XP with Windows 7 pc client

Before submitting my question, I look into responses to something that would be useful. There were some similar issues, but neither the same as mine.

    I have a desktop pc XP/SP3 with a Canon IP4600 USB printer.

So far, I got a home network wired (through an ethernet switch) with another XP desktop PC 2, which the shared printer successfully.

Now, I replaced the ethernet switch with a wireless router that I have to also connect at least 1 laptop to network without cables more.

The laptop is running Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit.

I successfully setup the network wireless router/Win7 so machine Win7 has access to the Web. I can also see the shared folders on the XP Win7 pc and can also see the IP4600 printer.

When I try to add the printer so that I can print in Win7, it fails because it has no driver. I do not have a Win7 driver for this printer on each machine, so I downloaded it from the Canon Website on the Win7 pc. This is a huge 55MB EXE file zipped (must be a bunch of other 'apps' there, too, may not only be a pilot). The "Add printer" procedure looking for one. File INF so he does not see this file downloaded to extract the driver. When I run the EXE file, it starts a procedure facility, which quickly fails and leaves because he "cannot find the printer" (because it is physically on the XP pc...).

Please help me get a Win7 driver installed. I need to print from the Win7 pc quite urgent...

    Thanks in advance.

Canon is making things difficult for you.  Hidden in the small print that describing 55MO download is as follows.

This software is a module that extends the functionality of the printer driver for Canon inkjet printers. Your printer must be installed through Microsoft Update before you download and use this module.

In other words, downloading isn't actually the driver.  It is an update of the driver.

I don't have my Win 7 computer pulled upward at the moment, but when you get to the part of the Add Printer Wizard when you specify the brand and model of the printer to select a driver, make sure you check the box at the bottom of the list to allow the search on Windows Update Wizard.  Well with XP, it was a bad idea to get drivers through Windows Update, it seems that many drivers, including printer drivers, do not appear on the install of Win 7 media but is available through Windows Update.

Another part of the process that I vaguely remember last time I installed a shared printer on a Win 7 box, is that if you select "add a network, wireless or Bluetooth printer" the wizard cannot find the shared printer.  In this case, use the "Local printer" option and specify its address in the form \\computername\sharename (if there are spaces in the name, use double quotes around it).

    ******************************************
This is what I was referring in the last paragraph:

    5. install printers on a local network
If the printer is on a network, you may need to indicate to the Add Printer Wizard that you install a local printer, use LPT 1 as it is connected to the port and then change the port setting when the driver is installed. To change the port, go to the dialog box printers and devices, right click on the name of the printer, and then choose Properties from the printer (not to be confused with the properties). Select the Ports tab and the Add Port button. In most cases, you'll want to select Standard TCP/IP Port, click New Port, and then work your way through the rest of the screen of the wizard, enter the IP address of the printer in the corresponding dialog box.

I'm not able to add a shared printer on a Windows XP client. One, printers
