LUN copy, LabManager backup

Hello

I'm under VC 4.0, the hosts are ESX 3.5 and LabManager is 4.0.

The main goal is to back up by using the VM LabManager amounted less space backup and without having to stop virtual machines while performing the backup.

My plan was to make a snapshot of the LUN (I have one all LM data isolated on a single LUN) and then take a backup of said. The snapshot of the LUN is easy, but then what do I do with it? I want to introduce logic unit number to a host which can read VMFS, so I can get my data on tape. Which excludes any Windows host, because he will not be able to read the file system, right?

So, I present the LUN to an ESX host? But that can't do it now, because the LUN ID don't match those on the LUN. It's a question that I need repair or the host will see the new LUN as a snapshot LUN?

Once I have the LUN that is readable from a host that I need dealt with by my backup agent. Really, I prefer not having to install agents on my ESX host, but this seems to be the only way to do it? Unless I have copy from my ESX host to a windows server and have to back up. Which would mean that I now need space for the live LUN, space for the snapshot LUN to the backup on a windows host and space for it on my backup system.

I expect to hear what others are doing, sullen cause I got hurt

Looks like you are looking for a solution basically save your VMS hosting of Labmanager. Would be a solution to use here something like VMware consolidated backup, or any other company software backup level that has VCB integration allowing them to backup vmfs file system.

  • Difference between the backup of database to copy and backup of database

    Hi all

    Kindly differentiate between backup database copy and backup of database.

    Thanks in advance.

    Hello

    With image backups, you have the option of two things:

    1. use these as rman backup and ask to restore them to the desired location (the same that we do in restoration of backupsets).

    2. tell the database to use these files.  This is possible by ' switch database copy. This is useful when the recovery will take a long time.  This allows you to move the users directly to the backup that you restore to the original location.  In other words, your database remains open with the users who access the copy.

    in both cases, you would:

    1 restore a controlfile

    2. the backup catalog

    RMAN > catalogue start with noprompt "/ backup location, in this case copy data files."

    3A. If you want to restore the database, so you might as same as usual:

    run

    {

    Set up until...

    newname Set...

    restore the database...

    recover the database...

    }

    ALTER database open resetlogs;

    3B. If you want to "switch" to the backup, you must run:

    switch database to copy;

    recover the database up to the...

    ALTER database open resetlogs;

    NOTE: before open resetlogs, remember that your online log file location is valid for the server on which you are restoring.  See:

    Select Member from v$ logfile;

  • Any of my music or playlists copied from backup disc appears when I open iTunes.

    I followed the instructions of a certain number of responses from discussion to this help page. I followed the steps following (according to the help instructions) without success:

    1. On destination macbook pro, I did drag the iTunes folder from Home/music on your desktop
    2. During the backup of the source (external drive, Time Machine backup folder), I copied the iTunes folder and...
    3. .. .pasted in the Home/Music folder on destination macbook pro
    4. Once the files have been copied, I opened iTunes, but no music was there, apart from purchased iTunes music. No playlists.
    5. I have read the thread replies
    6. ITunes started while hold down alt/option to choose the library; Music/iTunes open on destination mac; selected iTunes Library.itl and click on it to open it. Still no music or playlists of this folder.

    I see all the music files in the new iTunes folder that I copied from a backup. A reflection as to why they are not displayed?

  • Are there problems with the copy a backup of one old drive to another?

    After buying a hard drive TB Seagate external 3 to make backups, I conclude that, because of differences in sector I can not create a backup image to the new drive.  I did an image backup on my Toshiba 1.5 TB and then copied the file to the new 3 TB drive.  While it is a pain, for the moment, I don't see anything around him.  Are there problems with it?

    Another question: If there is a question, is there a way to write the image of the file on the drive that works and then all backups incremental file at CT 3?

    Hello

    Because you can't save the picture of the system directly on your 3 TB hard drive, you can save on your 1.5 TB hard drive, and then copy it to 3 TB external hard drive.

    If you want to restore, you can restore directly from your hard drive 3 TB.

  • VMFS LUNS of tape backup,

    Hello

    We have 9 servers to ESX 3.5, a SAN HP EVA 8000 and a proxy server backup of VCB windows 2003 using arcserve

    Is it possible to save a VMFS LUNS set on tape, we can save individual using vcb and it works well, but we need to have a full tape backup VMFS LUNS?

    Is this possible and if so, how? I'm sure I'm missing something obvious?

    You MAY be able to get Replication Solutions Manager to describe the VM snapshots before a SAN snapshot. Or you could use a mirror Clone and save it like that. But the question will read the VMFS. You can add a "helper" ESX Server, but I don't think there's Arcserve software that could be installed in the Central Office.

    The great thing is why you want to do? Is there a problem with VCB? Maybe you could add another VCB proxy if your backup times are achieved. If you go down the path of SAN backups based, make sure that you can recover. more likely, the backup will be consistent down.

  • Problems with the backup copy

    New time capsule, try to copy the backup to the new airport. Instructions on the Apple Support site seem simple, but I'm missing something. I suspect that this is how I'm connected to the capsule, 99% of the time that it is WiFi.

    Here is the link to the apple site I use for instructions.

    https://support.Apple.com/en-us/ht204078

    I am able to connect the original airport time capsule base by the first 2 steps stations.

    I am able to stop the back-ups on the time capsule original airport

    I am able to complete steps 1-3 on "copy backups it to the new airport Time Capsule"

    However, I have no idea what step 4 ways.  After step 3 in the finder window, I see a yellow folder called data.  If I double click on data, makes that step 4 complete?  If I double click on the data of the finder window is titled 'data' at the top in the Center, but there is nothing in the main window (name, date modified, etc.)

    'Step 4 Mount airport Time Capsule original volume in the Finder by double-clicking'

    So if that is correct, and I go to step 5, 6 and 7, I end up with the same thing on the new airport tc finder window.

    I do not see that anything that is called a backup disk image to drag on.   I don't know what I'm missing.  The only thing I think it's that I'm connected to the CT via wifi or Ethernet cable, which is connected.  (I have an Ethernet cable connected directly from my time capsule org on my mac.  "But I do not have the active wifi, I do not see my tc).

    I don't see a green light on my LAN port on the time capsule. This tells me that even if it is connected, it does not work. I tried searching through the support of apple for solutions.  But there must be an easy way to get to work without being a guru of Ethernet network.

  • Copy the folders (backup) of a connected USB device

    Hi, is it possible to copy (or backup) the content of my (NMH305) mediaserver to a USB HDD connected directly to the media server? I tried the utility 'copy' in the file browser, but it will not copy in files on a connected USB device (by clicking on the "copy file" button does nothing).

    Is the USB key to your aid in format NTFS or FAT32? If it is in NTFS format, then it could be the reason why you can not write to the USB plugged into the USB port of mediahub. Some linux-based devices do not work well with NTFS format. Try a FAT32 formatted drive into the USB port on the mediahub.
