  • Problem starting on Satellite M40X-250

For some time, I'm having a problem with an old laptop, the Toshiba Satellite M40X-250.

When I try to boot this laptop, the headlights turn on, I can hear the hard drive and fan from, also I can hear (if I have one there) station cd read cd/dvd.

But nothing else happens, the screen remains black and there is no way I can make it work.

I quite know something on the desktop, so I disassembled the laptop completely and just cleaned and after I reassembled it again, but that had no effect, I can not even boot up the laptop.

There is however another strange thing, it is very rare, but sometimes I get to start, but at some random point (very quickly, because I can't actually use the laptop) it is for me a BSOD (Blue Screen Of Death) with an error code, I think it was 0x000000EA. In any case, this meant a driver problem with the graphics card. It gave me an error ATIDVAG.

But most of the time I'm still not able to start.

Now, it's a very old laptop and I have tried everything,.
I tried to start without battery (disconnected) and only the power, without result.
I tried to start only with the battery, no results.
I tried to unplug the power supply and the battery, then press the power button / stop for 60 seconds, no results.
I tried several rescue cd, a linux installation cd, windows installation cd, it resulted in nothing.
[EDIT] I have also connected to the laptop to an external monitor, but that did not work, no results.

I'm really lost now, I have tried everything I know, and I've never met a problem like this.
Maybe it's just the fact that material became old and it is better to give up, but I would really like to know if there is someone who can help me and maybe give me some ideas on what I can do.

I am very familiar with the inside of this laptop and I know what to do. I don't want to not call me an expert, maybe it is a little off, but I know my way around.
so, if anyone has a solution, let me know.

    Regards and thanks in advance.

In my opinion, it seems that the problem of graphics card.
Black screen means that the display is faulty or chip chart.

But if the internal screen would malfunction, then you should still be able to use the external monitor, but I guess that's not possible, therefore, I think that his GPU problem

  • Satellite M40x-250 turns off without warning

    HII everyone,

Hope you guys can help me. I have an old Toshiba Notebook (Satellite M40x-250).

I don't know how old exactly, but I think around 4 or 5 years. Ive never had any problem with it, but now its weird action. Recently, I was typing something and suddenly it just turned itself off.

I waited about five minutes before I restarted and it worked perfectly again.
Same thing just happened half an hour ago.

Now his works once again, with no loss of information.
My laptop is just getting old, or would be - this other problem that could be solved?

    Thank you!

    Hello

In my eyes it s typical overheating problem
As you say it s a laptop plus age (4 to 5 years) and I suppose that the cooling fans have not been cleaned since the first day
I think that there is a lot of dust and debris that prevents the cooling modules to work with maximum efficiency, this can lead to a higher temperature and shut downs.

The laptop turns off automatically to prevent the equipment from damage
Clean the fan using a jet of compressed air! In from time to time, and it helps!

    Welcome them

  • M40X-250: Unstable connection Wireless 54mbps

    Hello

A month ago, I bought a new m40x-250 and a brand new US Robotics maxg router, the problem is, I use it wireless and we put him on 54 Mbps, we got the network in the recommended version Robotics which is WPA, so everything seems normal, but the problem is after than many Connect minutes (internet) grave then the back, like ten times in an hour.

So I thought that it's my phone, so I sent it to Toshiba, complete check-up to the top, they find nothing, the system works perfectly! made me think and I set the router on 11 Mbps, now wifi works great, but my question is Daniel not on 54 Mbps? It should be cos it is as good as standard, on the router and the laptop (802.11 g) now I use 802, 11 b.
the only thing I can think is my pc card.
Can someone give me some advice here?

    Thank you!
    Kris.

  • Satellite M40X - 250 LAN card does not work

    Hello

I have a portable Satellite M40X-250. For 3 days I couldn't connect to my router. LAN card is Realtek RTL8139/810 x Family Fast Ethernet NIC I also installed Linux OS and he did. I use Win XP Pro.
-J' have also installed new driver for the network card.
    -The firewall is disabled

    Can someone help me...

    Hi Erguder

First of all, you must enter the Device Manager and check if there is a yellow exclamation point.
If not, then I guess that the LAN driver has been installed successfully and that there must be another reason the failure of LAN.

Please then check the properties of LAN. In the? General? tab you will find installed protocols. Please choose the TCP/IP Protocol and click Properties.
All parameters (IP, DNS, getway, etc.) must be set on automatically.

The other possibility is that there is something wrong with the router. Try to reset the router and check the settings.

  • Satellite M40x - where the memory?

    Hi all

I want to improve my memory of 512 MB to 1.5 GB. I bought 1 G RAM and when I plugged in the screen become white and computer laptop does not work. RAM is fine. I have contact the technical service of the seller, and according to them I need to remove the old 512 MB of RAM and plugged it my 1 GB of RAM for my laptop recognize the new RAM.

To do this, I opened my keboard and under what I can only find WLAN in the middle in the left there is another local network. and the far left, I see my DVD - ROM. On the right PC card and what is - this. I don't know where is the 512 MB RAM slot. It is there somewhere.

Is there any expert who can tell me where to find 512 MB RAM slot?

PS: I even call Toshiba support and they said sorry according to policy, we cannot tell you.
If expert laymen captions please help me to solve this problem.

    Please

I checked the manual of the Satellite M40x (it can be downloaded from the Toshiba site) and if you look at page 8-7 you can find a description of the memory upgrade.

In my opinion the 512 MB that you already is a built-in RAM that can t be upgraded because the bottom of the laptop is on only one memory slot.

However, I think that it is not a problem to use an additional RAM module, but maybe the new RAM is not compatible with your laptop.
What type of memory you have bought exactly? Maybe you should try it with another.

    I hope I could help a bit.

    Hello

According to the specifications of Toshiba, DDR max can be 2 GB, however, while looking for a certain number of sites at the best price, there is a bit in which state that the max is 1.5 GB.

Can anyone confirm this is correct? Of course, the instinct is to say, go with the manufacturer, but its not just 1 site which State 1.5 GB...

    Any help would be appreciated

    See you soon

  • M40X-250: Installation of the OS does not work

    Hello

I just tried to upgrade to a standard installation of XP Home Edition to a XP pro edition. When installing the note happens that the facility lacks a mass storage device driver. Later, when you restart the pc it does not get through the start-up phase. Bluescreen fraction of a second and it restarts give me mode without failure of the standard options - previous installation-... Option all lead to the same loop.
    So here are my questions:

    (1) is the HD a SATA drive and therefore not yet supported by Win XP pro (I couldn't find the exact specifications of the HD)
    (2) where can I find the drivers for this problem
    (3) is there a solution anyway...

    Any help is welcome...
    R
PS. : Yes, XP pro is a legal full version...

    Hello

As much as I know this laptop came with a HDD 60 common GB improved Interface (ATA-6). In this case you n t need to install all of the SATA drivers.
In my opinion, it is another question.
I think you should try to install the Chip Set Utility and other Hotfixes Microsoft. The best way is to install SP2. In addition, the Toshiba site, you will find a few patches. You must install these files in the order that is listed on the download site.

  • Satellite M40x-250 - CD/DVD drive works sporadically

My laptop CD/DVD driver has always worked properly but in recent months, that it is no more.

Most of the time that an error message telling me the CD or DVD cannot be read. Sometimes it does not work properly, and sometimes it doesn't work but very slow or stuttering. It is not bad that CDs or DVDs that I use because I used previously and it is also happened that one day a CD work and the next day it doesn't.

Does anyone have an idea what could be the problem? (I did use updates for the driver, or something)

    Hello!

At the moment it is not easy to say why your CD/DVD drive doesn't work properly.
Maybe there is something of the dust on the lens of the CD/DVD drive. Then try to clean the lens using a microfibre cloth. This doesn t scratch lens for don t use other things.

In addition, I would recommend withdrawal of the reader of CD/DVD in Device Manager and restart the laptop. After this will be recognized once again and then you can test it again.

  • M40X-250: X600SE: cannot change display resulution!

    Hello
my screen resolution is turning always to the maximum setting: 1280 x 800 pixels. When I go to properties > settings and I change the resolution, a message says that I need to reboot the system. While restarting, when I see my desktop, it changes immediately on setting 1280 x 800. Is there a way to change this? I understand the system cannot support a higher resolution, but changing to a lower resolution should work, no?

    Hello

Usually change it to a lower resolution should work properly. But why would change you the display resolution of the lover?
However, you can change the display without restarting unit settings.
To change this setting please go to display advanced properties
Here, please select the general tab. In the compatibility section you will find the options.

  • Capacity of memory and Type for my Pavilion laptop

    Hi guys,.

I have a Pavilion dv6t-1000 laptop, purchased in 2009.  Its product page does not specify how many (and what type) memory it can hold.  Crucial memory Advisor suggests 2 x 4 GB, but other sources suggest 2x2gb or even 3x2Go.  Someone know how to look this and remember?

Furthermore, I'm not an expert on all the terminology describing differences in features in the memory modules.  I am looking to buy some things named parties as "204 pin DDR3 SO - DIMM DDR3 1333 mhz (PC3-10600)".  I have a vague feeling that the 1333 mhz and 10600 represent speeds, but the default components appear to be "PC2-6400, 800 mhz DDR2.  I have a problem of compatibility between these new parts to buy?

    Thank you very much

    Steve

    Hello

Because it's a CTO machine then only you know. If your computer is running 64-bit OS, you can use the critical recommendation:

    http://www.crucial.com/upgrade/HP+-+Compaq-memory/Pavilion+DV6+series/Pavilion+dv6t+series+%28DDR2%29-upgrades.html

DDR3 RAM MADE to DDR2 slots physically so you cannot use of DDR3 RAM. But first, please use the following program called CPU - Z to check the type of your machine RAM and post return:

    Kind regards.

  • Tecra M9 - compatibility of memory resources

    Hello

I really apreciate if someone having a Tecra M9 (S5515X or S5513X), check the memory resources in the control panel. And inform me which appear on the Device Manager.

Please, go to control panel / system / hardware / device manager
Menu display / resources by type / memory.

    Appearing something like this

    [000 A 0000 - 000BFFFF]-...
    [000 A 0000 - 000BFFFF]-...
    [000CC000 - 000CFFFF]-...
    [000DC000 - 000DFFFF]-...

I need the description of memory occupancy for the Bank 000D 0000 to 000DFFFF.

I need this information to verify the compatibility with my card PCMCIA for Siemens, which can only work if the 000Dxxxxx of the Bank of memory is not used for another device. I need to check this allow to purchase the Tecra M9.

    Best regards

    Heitor.

    Hello

I can't provide you with any information on memory usage because I am not owner Tecra M9. But I found on the internet of information on the card slot PC of Tecra M9.

The Type II 5mm PC card slot can accommodate unique Type II 16-bit or 32-bit (CardBus) PC cards.
So if your Siemens card is compatible with the specifications of this material I see no reason why he shouldn't? t works with the laptop Tecra M9.
