M83 2.5 inch SSD installation

ATTENTION: This is my first endeavor material addition Introduction experimental set-up in Introduction to the laboratory of engineering computer science and make a cable crossed in Introduction to networking laboratory.

Computer type: 10:00

I am trying to install a secondary drive. It is an essential M550 2.5 inch SSD. I'm looking inside the box for the second disc, I see (1) power cord with two plugs and (2) a cord with a plug of SATA data transfer.

(1) a CAP is currently hung in the main HARD drive. The other is not plugged, but use very close to the second drive Bay which is - I guess - is available for the secondary drive.

(2) the CAP is currently hanging in the main HARD drive.

Therefore, I am confused. I'm blind and lack a second plug for the SATA cord to go to the SSD data transfer? Data transfer on the power supply cord is like a cable POE? Do I need to buy a cable to connect to a place for the SSD? All the guides basically say, ' insert the disc, disk, put on the bevel, put the cover, model in turn computer connects, launch the installation of the firmware through windows, "which is not useful when it seems that I'm missing a data transfer cable.

Thanks for any help anyone can provide!

-min.

Problem solved. My SSD did not come with the appropriate cable and I found where to hang the cable again up to. Don't know how to close a post here...

    Hello

The pc comes with a hard drive hybrid with 16 GB of cache Express, and some say, that I am therefore not able to install the SSD.

The wish for SSD comes from the coming Win 10 which I would install on SSD alongside the most used applications either Office and others.

I've been in contact with HP, but they seem unable to specify the How - to's question. Strange when you know that they sell these PCs for a living.

As I'm fairly new to SSD, I would warmly welcome a guide step by step for the zero on the SSD installation and new operating system on this particular machine.

Must also have a list of would be nice (cables, rack...) as well as a description of the location where on the motherboard, the drive must be connected.

Finally, any information may be necessary - I read somewhere that you need to disable the original hard drive to install the SSD, and somewhere else that the boot sequence should be changed. Others again, said that the SSD will be automatically recognized, and some say I have to get the pc to install the SSD.

All of these statements leave me a little confused and with a lot more questions, e.g. what will happen with the old Win 8.1 on the C drive, if I install a Win 10 on SSD?

Wow - it's a lot to ask, but I hope someone is able to help me, and I send you all to thank you in advance

    Hello

There is a lot of confusion and frustration with the help of technology.  These two words are very common on many forums.

I suggest you Google "SSD Installation Guide" and you should find a lot of general literature.

Installation of a 2.5 SSD "will require a special mounting for your PC kit...  HP should have what you need. Please read this thread.

Frankly, you won't earn as much in performance using a SSD verses your existing configuration.

  • Star Wars 15-an002ns: SSD installation socket m2

    Hello

Recently I bought HP Star Wars Special Edition laptop for laptop - 15-an002n, which comes with 1 TB of HDD. I think it is too slow for the overall power of the rest of the components, and I intend to install a SSD for the OS. Consulted the manual, I see that the laptop has a blank m2 socket and some versions include an SSD there:

    M.2 SATA-3 (NGFF):
    ● SSD 256 GB, 2280, M.2, SATA-3, TLC

I installed some other SATA III SSD, but never a type m2. My questions are:

1 are there compatible with lower capacity models? I want to just install the OS here, so it would be enough with M.2 128 GB SSD.

2 how the BIOS will recognize the new drive as primary drive? I need to change the settings?

    3. I alter anything else in the computer. This update will void the warranty?

4 is recommended for installed the OS from scratch in the new drive or could I use disk clone software? In this case, which?

    Thanks in advance.

Currently, there is a problem with end users not being able to get this empty housing to recognize a M.2 WSSD drive added after delivery to the details of the laptop. Technically, the trying to jeopardize the warranty but who never stops the hard core of the valuation. So for the time being, until HP provides an answer as to what is happening with m2 slots, I do not recommend that you do the upgrade. If you want to go faster, I recommend that you install a SATA 2.5 inch SSD in place and place of the mechanical hard drive. Even that, however, will show warranty issues.

    Hello

Please can someone confirm if Intel 520 240 GB SATA 6 Gb/s 2.5 inch SSD series would be compatible with W510? Also, what generation SATA and how fast does W510 comes with?

Not sure if this adds a difference but my W510 is equipped with a processor Intel Core i7-820QM (1.73 GHz, 8 MB Cache)

    Hello
I want to install the SSD drive on my laptop (pavilion dm4 1006 YOU.)
Before installing, I want to confirm by experts which makes my system configuration supports the SSDS?
I heard that SSDS have backward compatibility with legacy systems.
And my HARD drive is 5 years old, the reason why I want to replace it with SSDS.

Please fix this, so I could move further with the installation of the solid state drive.
    Thank you

No Yes No problem. Your portable computer hardware will fully support an SSD. Is the SATA-II speed, but a SSD SATA-III works perfectly.

Your hard drive is a size of 320 gig so I recommend a 500 GB SSD which make it easy to clone (copy) from the old drive to the SSD drive or you can use the HP recovery discs. You can install a smaller if budget is a constraint.

It is a good SSD to buy it:

Sizes from 120 GB to 2 TB.

    Hey @CJBr,

Welcome to the Forums of HP Support!

I would like to help you today to resolve the error 2147467259 installation when you install your Deskjet 2050 on your Windows computer. Just so you know that this seems to not be a problem with SSD for Windows.

I'll provide you with a solution of @chburnham .  I suggest this fix but do not guarantee that it will work because you will need to go into your registry and modify some files. Only run the fix if you feel comfortable with editing your registry files.

I recommend you back up your registry before you edit the registry files:

  • New E7470 Latitude and 2.5-inch SSD

Does anyone know if an SSD to 2.5 inches can be added to the new Latitude E7470 14 inch portable computers? I could do that on previous models (E7440). Looking at the owner's manual there seems to be enough space next to the battery, but there is no mention of a 2.5 slot.

A Dell sales representative assured me that I could but could not provide me the reference of a shopping cart / cable to cela (and seems to be more inclined to sell me the phone to answer my question). Dell support won't talk to me unless I already have one.

Reader m2 are nice but limited to 500 GB.

I apologize for the misunderstanding.  Looking at the user manual I see no place for a disc more and have to say that you won't be able to use a 2.5 inch drive outside using an external enclosure.

Is possible to use the mSata SSD instead of module 3 G pcie slot?

Thank you very much for your help!

I think that something like this is not possible. Card mother ports are not a kind of flexible ports.

  • Portege R700 - SSD installation: a succesfull and the other failed

For what it's worth I just short wants to share my learnings SSD:

    1. I bought a Newton GTX 500 GB Corsair for my R700 (i5, W7). Looked to work ok after normal cloning, but often the PC froze and I couldn't restart it. Only way to continue was to force its rotation down with the power button. I've always had this message when starting:

+ PXE - E61: Media test failure, check cable for. +
    + PXE - M0F: exit Intel Boot Agent. +
+ Insert system disk in drive. +
+ Press any key when ready... +.

Only way to go was to force down once again and then the Pc may start and open windows. I've updated all the drivers I could think of-including Intel - but the problem persisted. Please note that this happened at the time with no systematic behavior, at least what I could understand.

    2. I got cold feet for this behavior and I bought a new R930, exchanged relative small with a bigger Samsun 840 Pro 500 GB SSD HARD drive. No problem, works very quickly and smoothly!

    3. I can now reinstall Windows 7 on the older R700 with the Corsair SSD - and now this machine works without any of the oldest problems, but I Don t understand.

Any of you have seen something similar?
    / Anders

    > Anyone of you seen something similar?

Of course. PXE - E61: Media test failure, check cable error is displayed because the laptop has attempted to boot from LAN.
Usually, this happens because of faulty HARD drive.

    > 2. I got cold feet for this behavior and I bought a new R930, exchanged relative small with a bigger Samsun 840 Pro 500 GB SSD HARD drive. No problem, works very quickly and smoothly!

I n t have this laptop Portege but I ve bought the same shape of my laptop Tecra SSD drive.
After cloning, the data on the drive to SSD drive using the software, which was part of the SSD HARD drive package, start the laptop much more quickly. I m very satisfied.

  • SSD installation woes

I have a HP Pavilion m6 1045dx laptop with Win 7 64 bit and a 750 GB HARD drive.  I tried to install a Samsung 500 GB SSD 840EVO without success.  First thing I found out is that when I had added an another partition for data until I have inadvertently converted in a dynamic disk not realizing what I have headache I was creating.

I tried to follow the detailed instructions of Daniel Potyrala at:

but I get lost in step 5 to delete the SYSTEM partition where I'm supposed to create a Partition.

I see that the Mini Partition tool professional tool has a feature which is supposed to convert a dynamic disk to basic without data loss.  Does anyone have any experience with that and it might be a solution to a complicated situation.

My screen looks like this right now:

My HP Support Assistant is telling me I have "Low Disk Space on primary C: drive", but the Partition Wizard Free won't let me not resize the C: drive, because it is dynamic.

Unfortunately, I am not a COMPUTER expert, but I always try to confuse by that because I really want to use the SSD I already bought.  Can someone help me with this dilemma?

Yes, I tried to run the repair of the system, but it did not work.

Frankly, I see no reason to be messing with the system partition in first place during the recovery partition is much less critical for the functioning of the system.

I'm glad to hear that others have used this tutorial successfully, and I still don't know what I did wrong, but I wouldn't try it again for what anyone when there are more reasonable and less risky options.

The warranty is voided by replacing the hard drive DSS? Some computers can be updated without voiding the warranty, others not.

  • SSD installation - conflict with PCB

    Hello

Today, I tried to install an SSD 2.5 "in a S10 (4333-A13) - and was surprised that there is a part of the circuit board under the S-ATA-connector colliding with the SSD (the green room on the left and right for the connector s - ata is aprox. 2-3 mm higher than the floor of the cargo bay hhd). See here:

Thus, the DSS will not be properly connected. See here:

It's a little annoying (spoken politly) - and I do not take a saw and adapt the ssd of course.

Someone at - he experienced this? A failure in the design?

    Best regards, pepun.

    Problem solved!

Intel sells an ssd that fits.

    Unscrew the black plastic braket.

    Replace the screws.

    Then your good to go.

Definitely fits the 320 series (SATA 2).

    IM using this type.

Startup time has improved, but... the holds of the Atom Processor stil reconnect once the operating system.

Anyway I hope this helps some people who thought they were stuck with a HARD drive
