MAC address auto PowerCLI / duplicate MAC

We have a duplicate MAC address problem when we move to a server a server vCenter to another. Our method to move the server is to disconnect the server from the vCenter server and then attach it to the other server vCenter. For some reason, the MAC address reviews does not change when it is attached. I would assume vCenter regenerate an unique MAC address based on the unique ID of vCenter but apparently not. Then the old vCenter seems to affect the old MAC address again on the next guest created therefore create duplicate address.

We try to automate the process of moving to a guest from vCenter for vCenter via PowerCLI. One of the hotfixes in the duplicate MAC addresses is to set it to manual and back to auto ( http://www.vmware.com/support/vsphere4/doc/vsp_esxi41_vc41_rel_notes.html )the problem comes when we want to set the MAC address of a MAC auto return manual. The setting of the MAC address manually is no problem, but we can not seem to figure out how to set the MAC address of return via PowerCLI. Anyone know of a solution?

Thanks in advance for any help provided.

Zac

We run vCenter server 4.1 & ESXi 4.1 U1.

Take a look at the MAC address of the automatic switch generated with Set-NetworkAdapter.

Who could do what you're after.

    Hello, cjcurts-

You can adjust the code of Luke a little so that it exports the original info as well as the MAC address.  It would be something like:

    ## save the imported info$colVMInfoFromCSV = Import-Csv $importfile## add a NoteProperty to the info (later to be a "column" at Export-Csv time)$colVMInfoFromCSV | Add-Member -MemberType NoteProperty macaddress -value $null$colVMInfoFromCSV | %{ $vname = $($_.Hostname) New-VM -name $vname -VMhost $vmhost -ResourcePool $pool -DiskMB $disksize -MemoryMB $memsize -NumCpu $cpu -DiskStorageFormat thin -Datastore $datastore -GuestID $os -NetworkName $nic0 -Location $location

        $macnic1 = Get-NetworkAdapter -vm $vname | where {$_.type -match "e1000"} | select-object MacAddress

        ## put the MAC address in this "row" of the collection of info (this object in the array of objects) $_.macaddress = $macnic1

        New-NetworkAdapter -VM $vname -NetworkName $nic1 -StartConnected -Type vmxnet3    New-NetworkAdapter -VM $vname -NetworkName $nic2 -StartConnected -Type vmxnet3}

    ## export the info, which now contains the MAC address info as well as the original info$colVMInfoFromCSV | Export-Csv $outputfile -NoTypeInformation

Who uses the Add-Member cmdlet to add a NoteProperty in the original news and fills then each 'line' with the corresponding MAC address information.  It is in fact setting a value for the "macaddress" for the given custom object property.  It exports then all the info to the "outputfile".

  • Yahoo mail address auto-fill lists everyone already included in every email I ever sent/received

At least that's what it looks like...

    FF (29.0.1)

Re Yahoo mail: when entering a container for an email, the auto-fill drop down shows possible is well beyond my contacts. It includes everyone that I have never sent/REC/WAV and all addresses that have been also cc would be in these emails.

What I read on the Yahoo boards that suggestions are generated from the data browser stored (IE. It's a browser problem is not a problem with Yahoo Mail). I have FF options to delete the history (disabled/offlinedata browse/download/cache/forms/search/cookies/connections/people) each FF closes.

I am able to delete unwanted suggestions one at a time, but as a practical approach that goes beyond ridicule.

FF maintains a master list of addresses of the party? If so, how can I delete everyone except my existing contacts?

    Thank you!

Firefox does not save addresses except that form data; the data that you entered previously in Firefox.

  • I can't find my outlook express address book after you migrate successfully from the old computer. The "Address book" tab shows that local address book empty.

I move from a Windows XP computer to a Windows 7 computer. My old computer has Outlook Express. I've migrated successfully my emails and messages archived in Thunderbird on the new computer. I also migrated the Outlook Express address book using an external hard drive, but I was not able to understand how to find the Outlook Express address book in Thunderbird. The only way that I could find the Outlook Express address book, is to go to 'tools' and 'import' and then import the Outlook Express address book. When I do this, the Outlook Express address book features, duplicate entries (because I imported twice now). When the Outlook Express address book shows, it works without problems and I can use it to send emails. But once I close the Outlook Express address book, I can't find him. Other messages, I see that the "Address book" tab in Thunderbird should open a window containing a list of available on the left side address books. But this window in my computer does not display a list of address books. There is just a blank window for the address book personal (it has no contacts inside) and there is nothing on the left side.

HOW CAN I GET RID OF ADDRESSES IN THE LISTS OF YOR WHEN YOU DID NOT HAVE THEM THERE

    Hello hop a long

Thanks for posting on the Microsoft answers Forum.

Try this: from a post in another forum.

First of all, in the Windows Mail go to tools > Options. On the Send tab uncheck the box "complete e-mail addresses automatically in the composition".
    Click on apply.

To remove the address you trick Windows Mail into thinking you want to continue to send e-mail to this address.

When you start typing the highlight the list full address auto and press DELETE.

After you remove this address thus cleared the new email and address it to yourself. Click on send.

    I hope this helps.

  • HPDM and "Device ID" problem with Citrix virtual card

In our image, there is the Citrix "virtual" adaptor, and this seems becausing a "Device ID" conflcit with some computers.

I'm sitting here, watching the HPDM to change host name and the IP address of the line of the device so that the device ID is remaining the same. Didn't understand why my tasks were failing or passes to two computers at the same time until I realized that it takes device ID of the first found on the system Mac address.

Is there anyway that I can get HPDM or HPDMAgent to choose the Mac of a different adapter to give his "Device ID"? It seems that HPDM is not able to send a single task to a single device, given that a host name and IP, but it also shuts down and send it to any other device that has the same "device id" (mac address).

Then, when I run "ipconfig/all", the virtual map of Citrix (citrix vpn client) shows first, before the Local connection area Realtek, that's why I'm assuming HPDM straightens the Mac of Citrix first address which is duplicate with other systems which also have installed Citrix virtual card.

We have a fix for this kind of question.

The new design is to filter all of the virtual card, DM will pick up the mac address of the physical NIC as device ID.

The fix will include 4.6 SP1 which aims in mid-May.

  • Linksys WPC55AG, WPC54GX on wireless LAN, "connected to the AP, but Internet is not found.

Aloha, finally a forum thar actually solves the questions, mahalo.

These two wireless network adapters used to work properly with my DSL modem Westell 7500. Now, not so much.

I can wire Enet cards pcmcia network very well. I see my Brother MFC885CW wireless printer.

    I'm on a gateway 9100, Win2k, Service Pack 4 running.

Linksys utilities show that I received, but do not send bits.

ipconfig gives 0.0.0.0 for the IP address auto configuration

I looked at the parameters of the DSL router, I don't see anything strange of course.

I also use wireless MAcBook Pro, airport, very good works. Hmm

    Any thoughts?

The WPC54GX allowed ascii/text in box 1 WEP key, the WPC55AG has failed, only hex characters. However, after a search fast on another computer, I found an alpha decoder spell and managed to enter the WEP key in hexadecimal form, which I was able to confirm the MAc RPN calculator. Network cards do not seem to do the conversion correctly. I knew this because of my string of characters in the password.

Also, the dual-band has been assigned, when he did at all, a "unrelational", (best way to put it) the IP address of 169.254.81.145, instead of a 192.168... as I was expecting.

So with a little effort, both network adapters are now connected to the internet, and ipconfig shows well, as valid information.

Some once said that I spoke in hex, there you have it.

Thank you very much, I would say that the problem is solved.

    Aloha

  • Cannot open the link in a peer-to-peer network

I created a peer-to-peer network between two equipped PDA to Windows Mobile 5.0. It is shown that two of them were connected, and their IP addresses are assigned automatically.

But when I used the function of TCP/IP Open, it returns an error 10060 "cannot open connection". I miss something here? It should be a simple connection.

The IP address 169.254.x.x, this is what is called a "auto assigned IP.  Which means that the device is set to get an IP from a DHCP server, but when he cannot find a DHCP server, it takes an IP address.  This allows to have an address on the computer network, but likely to be on the same subnet are not likely.  Also, the 169.254.x.x will change each time the computer restarts, or the NIC decides to try to obtain an IP address again.  It is never a good idea to use an IP address auto assigned in the communication of data, because these problems undelining.  If you do not connect to a DHCP server, it is always better to set a static IP address.

  • My router Linksys BEFSR41 (model) 4.2 (version) does not work after I tried

to update to firmware Ver.2.00.4 Build 5. The power still works, but I can't connect to internet with it more. I pressed reset to 30 seconds and disconnected the power for 5 seconds and restarted my PC and it still does not work. Someone knows how to fix this?

It won't even show the IP of the gateway by default more when I run the ipconfig command. I can't ping it.

What IP address you get on your computer?

Connect the modem to the Internet port and the computer and port Ethernet 1 of the router.

Press and hold the reset button on the router for 30 seconds. Release the reset button and wait 30 seconds. Power cycle the router and check the IP address of your computer.

If you get a valid IP address as 192.168.1.xxx then try to ping the 192.168.1.1 IP address.

If you get the IP address auto-configuration as 169.254.x.x then assign a static IP address on the computer (192.168.1.10 subnet - 255.255.255.0, gateway - 192.168.1.1) and then try to ping the router.

If you get answers from the router then try to open the router configuration page.
