Mac e-mail folders

I recently updated my hard drive and when you restart my Mac (I don't have a back up first), I lost all of my e-mail folders. How do I recover from my hard drive?

Hello Myrtle76,

Thank you for using communities of Apple Support.

I see that you have recently upgraded your drive hard, and when you restarted your Mac, you've lost all of your e-mail folders. Certainly, I know how it is important to ensure that you have access to all your emails. I have something I want you to try.

If you have saved your Mac with Time Machine, you can restore from a backup Time Machine to recover these emails. Use article use Time Machine to back up or restore your Mac, more specifically, this section:

Restore from a Time Machine backup

Restore specific files:

  1. Enter in Time Machine, choose the Time Machine menu , or click on the Time Machine in the Dock.
  2. Find files to restore:
    • Use the timeline on the edge of the screen to see your Time Machine backup files, as they were at this date and time. The timeline may also include a snapshots the.
    • Use of the screen and down arrows to reach the last time the content of the window changes. You can also use the search field in a window to find a file and then move through time, well that centered on the changes to this file.
    • Select a file, then press the SPACEBAR to preview the file and make sure it is the one you want.
  3. Click on restore to restore the selected file, or Ctrl-click the file for other options.

Need to Restore everything.

  • To restore everything in your backup Time Machine, use OS X Recovery.
  • To copy the files, settings and user accounts for OS X in your backup on another Mac, use The Migration Wizard.

After an upgrade of the Mavericks 10.9.6 El Capitan 10.11.6 yesterday, everything works fine but all folders on my Mac in Mail disappeared, and just downloaded Mail 2000 + new mails in the Inbox instead of their files based on rules. All accounts are accounts pop.

There is a clone of CCC and a backup Time Machine.

I tried the "click Activate market" suggestion contained in e-mail accounts, which only stopped the re - download old emails until the accounts have been reactivated. I also activated iCloud (IMAP) on and outside, who did nothing.

It would be nice to have the files on my Mac and the restored rules. Get the back emails would be nice, but it's not vital because I have them in PDF format via e-mail pro archiver and the intendant of mail and keep only the most recent in Mail.

All the old mails files on my Mac have always disappeared. for me it is perfect, so I won't have any duplicates in my backup, backup pdf being dependent on the journey and he will back up since V3 now instead of V2.

not having no not old e-mails after a normal mac app store upgrade could be called dysfunctional, even if it turned out to be ideal for my setup, depends do not Mail to keep all my email anyway.

    All e-mail folders deleted.
Open each Properties folder and run 'repair file' which restored the contents of the file but when I go to a different folder to restore that one and then return to the previous folder, it is 'empty' again. That is to say the restoration is not permanent.

Messages are stored as eml files.  Is there no eml files, then there is no message.  Check in the windows.old directory if there is one, because it may contain old data.  The location of the message in Vista store is c:\users\[username]\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows mail, so you might check there.

  • Why Windows Mail creates mirror mail folders in Inbox?

    Hello

Re: Windows Vista x 64, and Mail Gateway laptop, mirror of the mail in the Inbox files

Windows Mail keeps creating mail folders in the Inbox with the same names as existing files from the Inbox. When I do drag messages in the Inbox folders, messages will again be saved in files with the same name in the Inbox. When I transfer these messages in folders unwanted in the correct on Inbox folders, I get error Message can not be found when the selection of the recognized object - until I close and then reopen WM.. Then I get two copies of each new message in the correct folders, which opens successfully, the second can not find the above message. I remove the empty and offensive messages new folders in the inbox every time. This "bug" is more a nuisance than a problem I can fix things manually, but the "bug" repeats the problem for new messages when I forward these messages to the existing folders outside of the Inbox. Why this is happening and how to fix it?

Thanks for any help you can provide.

    Amused but frustrated.

I suggest in WinMail you create temporary files (tempJob and TempBus).  Then, in Windows Mail move all the folders 'Job' (but many are) messages in the folder TempJob and then do the same for messages of the 'Business' files in the TempJob folder.  Then in WinMail delete all work and all cases except the temp ones.  Then close WinMail, and then run the compact functions and repair of WMUtil (detection of malware in scxout.dll was a false positive, but you don't need this dll for this).  Then reopen WinMail and see if things work very well.  If so, you can rename the temporary folders to work and business and then see if the problem is resolved.

This solution worked, at least as much as I tested it.

One caveat I noticed concerns rename files back to employment and business to WinMail. Mail moved to employment or a business in WinMail is still saved in TempJob and TempBusiness in WinExplorer (while in employment and Affairs to WinMail). This occurs even if you rename TempJob work and TempBusiness of business in WinExplorer. WinMail will simply recreate TempJob and TempBusiness and ignore the files that you renamed employment and business in WinExplorer.

Thank you Steve and Gary. I appreciate your time and your help.

    Cheers, lychnobius

  • Fix a corrupted user profile - Outlook Import and addresses of mail folders.

OS: Windows Vista editions Home Premium x 64.  When I try to log on I get the error msg "the user profile service has no logon.  User profile cannot be loaded. "In addition, if I try to go forward and asked a password I am informed that the password has failed.  I tried a system restore, but did not correct the user profile.  Finally, I used the procedures in the posted in Forum Vista to create a new user profile and copy files (music, pictures, Favorites, excel & Word docs, etc) in the new user profile.  Also, I used the Outlook Wizard to connect to my e-mail address with the server of my Internet service provider.

Question: How do I copy/import my Outlook 2007 e-mail folders and addresses from my old to my new user profile user profile?

    Hello

You can try to fix it with Safe Mode - repeatedly press F8 as you bootup.

Some programs such as the Google Updater (if you added the toolbar Google, Chrome or Google Earth) has been
    known to cause this problem.

You will find may be easier to install the Windows Live Mail program

(You only need to install the e-mail program, you don't need the rest)

Basically, you create new subfolders off folders inbox & sent and move the messages according to the needs

You can do this through access to your web browser or Windows live mail

  • Can I sync my Apple Mail folders "on my Mac" between my iMac and my Macbook?

I make a lot of emails in folders in the section "on my Mac" in Apple Mail. Is there anyway to make them appear on my MacBook, when I'm traveling. Otherwise, all the emails saved in different folders on my home iMac are not able to access it from my MacBook.

Thanks for any help you can provide!

The whole point of a mailbox "on my Mac", it's that you don't want to sync with other devices. If you don't want to synchronize, forward messages to an IMAP server (for example, iCloud) by dragging them in the Inbox on the server.

  • Can't understand how to create mail folders. I have OS10.9.5.

Cannot find out how to make new folders in Mail.  Don't want a new box in the letters or smart mailbox, just a new folder in "on my Mac" I think that used to be there under the mailbox drop but it's gone. What can I do?

In the toolbar, go to the mailbox > mailbox. There create you another, and you can choose where you want (on my Mac, IMAP, etc.).

  • several e-mail folders appearing not

    Hi all

from arrival to El Capitan, Mail poses serious trouble me (@Apple: what quality SW?) I was used to something else - before, you really mainly of good quality!). Gmail's mail fails several times a day (ok, I deleted this account), by closing and reopening the mails I have as many windows open as before but all empty. As the mail is so incredibly unstable with my old configuration entirely imported, I try everything again and import only the locally stored email.

The big question, however and the one to which I am seeking help here is that my imported mailboxes are not displayed. In other words, I try to:

    1. First variant
      1. Reset the Mail (remove containers, AddressBook recent mail, preferences, Mail folder incl. box mailbox dirs, files of envelope, etc.,...) and the mail is clean. Exit the Mail.
      2. Then, as suggested on line, I add a folder stored locally (the Apple Mail folder with several subfolders) and move my old local archive folder to this folder (which replaces this file).
      3. I open mail and allow messages to import messages (it takes between 5 and 10 minutes on my i7 2.8 GHz with 16 GB of RAM), a few thousand emails are counted.
      4. Once the process is complete, the main mail window opens, but only the folder itself, any subfolder, no email appears.
      5. = > FAILURE
      6. Note: If step 2, I do not replace the file, but rather to move the content of this folder (which replaced the two files exisitng there), Mail will be important only 4 messages instead of a few thousand. That apart, everything is the same.
    2. Second variant:
      1. Reset mail (see above)
      2. Choose file-> import.
      3. Choose the folder of old local archive
      4. Mail displays an import process and subsequently a confirmation indicating that imports will be in a folder "imported".
      5. There is no shown any folder (don't I see one in the Finder).
      6. = > FAILURE

I noticed a similar effect by trying to create local folders, apparently according to their name. For example if I try to create a folder "Archives" in "on my Mac" creation is confirmed, but the record shows ever upward.

Does anyone have any ideas on what could be the reason? Thank you in advance!

    See you soon,.

    B

Please test after taking each of the steps that you have not already tried it. Stop when the problem is resolved.

Back up all data before making any changes.

    Step 1

If you use iCloud drive, please open the iCloud pane in system preferences. There is a marked checkbox iCloud drive, and next to that, a button labeled Options. Click this button and in the sheet that drops, that uncheck Mail if it is checked.

This e-mail box is not to be confused with those, also marked Mail, that appears when you open the iCloud preferences window. They have different effects.

    Step 2

If mail crashes or freezes immediately on launch, try the steps on this page. Sometimes a damaged on a mail server message can be deleted by logging in to the server through its web page.

    Step 3

If Mail doesn't always start, or if you are unable to take this step for any other reason, go to step 4.

There are three types of e-mail account: POP, IMAP, and Exchange. You can determine the type of each account by opening the Mail preferences window, by selecting the tab accounts and then click on account information.

Export all the mailboxes of POP in the office folder.

If you have accounts IMAP or Exchange and you don't store sent, deleted, and junk messages on the server, export these mailboxes in the same way. You can determine if the messages are on the server by selecting the mailbox behaviors tab accounts.

Also export all the mailboxes in the category on my Mac.

You do not have to export the other mailboxes, because messages are stored on the servers.

    Exit the Mail.

    Step 4

In system preferences, open accounts (OS X 10.9 or later) Internet or Mail, Contacts and calendars (OS X 10.7 or 10.8). Take notes settings for each e-mail account (all types), and then delete the accounts.

    Step 5

Quit Mail runs. In the Finder, hold down the option key and select

    Go ▹ library

in the menu bar. Move the following (some may not exist) in the folder that opens on the desktop:

    Application Support/AddressBook/MailRecents-v4.abcdmr

    Containers/com. Apple.corerecents.recentsd

    Containers/com. Apple.mail

    Containers/com.apple.MailServiceAgent

    Containers/com.apple.share.Mail.compose

    Mail

Note: you do not move the Mail application. You move a folder named "mail".

    Step 6

Launch of Mail. It will behave as if you have been putting in place for the first time. Go through the process of installation with a single account, using the information in step 4. Test. If Mail works now, recreate the rest of accounting (if you have several) and other parameters.

Any writing paper custom that you created may be lost. Ask for instructions if you want to keep these data.

If there is no improvement, quit Mail and put back items that you moved to the desktop, replacing the more recent who can be created in their place. Stop here and post your results.

    Step 7

If you followed step 3, import mailboxes mailbox that you exported (see article of support related to step 3 for instructions.) Generally speaking, the process takes a few minutes, but this can take hours if you have gigantic mailboxes. In this case, you will be able to speed things up temporarily by adding your file to the list of personal information protection in the Spotlight preferences pane. Remove it when Mail has finished importing.

The mailboxes that you export should automatically synchronize with the server. Once again, if the mailboxes are very large, their download may take some time, and the network performance will be slower than usual during this period.

If you skipped step 3, locate in the mail on the desktop folder a subfolder

V3/mailboxes (for OS X 10.11 or later version)

    or

V2/mailboxes (for any previous version of Mac OS X)

Import mailboxes mailbox that it contains.

Test. If Mail still work, remove items that you moved to the desktop in step 5.

Reactivate the e-mail option in the settings to iCloud by car, if you have disabled it and retest. If you weren't already the iCloud drive with Mail, there is no need to enable it now, unless you want to.
