MAC filter with autonomous access points

Hi all

A very simple question... I want to create local wireless networks using autonomous APs for the first time. I know this can all do with a trivial way controller, but this project can't stretch to that...

  • Can I use MAC filtering on autonomous APs to restrict clients associate?
  • I think that it will be 1240AG devices, but I guess the answer is the same for all models?
  • Can I mix MAC filtering with WEP/WPA? And use MAC filtering without encryption?

Thank you!

Paul

PS. I know filtering MAC is terribly weak, but it is a requirement here...

Yes, you can:

http://www.Cisco.com/en/us/docs/wireless/access_point/12.2_15_JA/configuration/guide/s15filt.html#wp1034987

Stupid requirements.

Thank you

  • WiFi HP ENVY 4500 with several Access Points - same SSIS Configuration

    Hello

We just got a HP ENVY 4500.  I have a main homenetwork with a wifi Modem/Router and an old router acting as an Access Point to the floor to extend coverage.

Both have the same SSID and password and are set to different channels.

My HP ENVY 4500 fails to connect when the Access Point is lit.

    It will connect with it.

Once connected, I can turn on the PA and all is well.

The two router an AP using WPA-PSK/WPA2-PSK encriptación

The router (that it connects to) should have a better sgnal when both are on, so I do not understand why they need the AP to be turned off to connect.

    Any thoughts people?

    Eserim

I think he has always had problems with several access points.  Try this, what ever AP is closest to the printer, set it to channel 1.  Then try channel 11.  Try now.

  • WRE54G canmot associated not with this access point in Repeater mode.

    Hello

Because of the concrete walls, I have a weak signal to use the WRE54G to extend my existing wireless network. However, I installed an Ethernet cable and found possible to connect the WRE54G access point. This is my extension of network is via a connection to an Ethernet cable. Is seems to work fine, it allows communications to the internet and shows a power good signal from a remote PC. But it works only in unsafe mode.

Although I tried to reset, and then follow the instructions to set up a new WEP or WPA encryption, the installation program recognizes the WRE54G, but does not allow me to save the configuration.

The error it says it is "WRE54G canmot not associate with this access point in Repeater mode.

    Help, please

Make sure your router's wireless settings and WRE are the same. Try changing the channel on your router, if your router's wireless channel is the default after the procedure, your WRE is unable to communicate with your wireless router.

  • Unique SSID to the autonomous access point

    Hello

My question is that if I have one SSID on an autonomous access point while I use the vlan native too. I mean what's the best practice in this case, if the vlan wireless say 10.

Also I have to use the bvi-1 or I have to creat bvi another for this vlan?

    Thank you

In my experience it's not a must to use native vlan.

No, you should use only one interface BVI.

    Just like that:

    Dot11 ssid ABC
    VLAN 10
    Open authentication
    Authentication-key wpa version2 management
    WPA - psk ascii cisco123

  • Impossible to access wifi with other access points

    WNDR4500v3 with firmware V1.0.0. I32

I bought this router on dec 25 2015 to replace a dead linksys router.
The router feeds a switch of 16 points from one of the 4 ports.
I have a win 7 pc connected to one of the other routers 3 ports.
Then a VoIP connected to port 3 of the router.
I have 2 other wireless access points connected to the port 16.
We feed a remote building through a wired connection to the firset access point
The other access point is also fed by a wired connection.
The old linksys router had him for 4 years.

As I said I bought this router as a replacement... but since its worthless and the two wireless access point do not have internet connection.
So either I get it work or will return it for a refund within 24 hours.

Figured that out it was Network Manager and windows share the unknown connection of marking.

In advanved sharing setting I have to change to use for user accounts and passwords to connect to other computers

Then all the problems went away.

No more giving up connection and with no internet connection.

  • Problem with internet access point

Hello, I saw that this question was asked before, but has never seen a solution to my problem, I will explain:

I have like 5 months with this problem. I have a TP-LINK 300Mbps Wireless N Router, model No. TL-WR841ND. The fact is that when I plug in my router to the Modem, my wireless network seems to work fine, but when I try to connect to my computer or any other device to the network (mobile phones, playstation 3, tablets, etc.), I am unable to do so. On my laptop, I get the message: 'Problem with wireless adapter or access point', but the most confusing thing is that sometimes I can connect to the Internet via my network wireless without any problem.

This time I decided to post my problem, because I'm tired of it. Sometimes it happens, sometimes it doesn't. Right now, I have two days without Internet connection (Via router), because my modem works properly.

PS: I have another router (Linksys) and I can connect to this network, but I want to solve my problem with the TP-Link because the signal is stronger. Help!

You can change the flow but it is global. You can disable discounted data on a given access point that allows only devices that can associate with 48mbps or 54 Mbps. If you want.

  • AP 2702i as autonomous access point?

    Hi all

We bought just the AIR-CAP2702I-E-K9 a few days ago. We want to use it as a standalone AP. The problem is that the device won't be configurable somehow: "conf t" does not work, not even after a "debug console cli capwap. The fact is that the AP continues to give the following error message:

% CAPWAP-3-DHCP_RENEW: could not find WLC by using DHCP IP. Renew DHCP IP.

The fact is that we will not deploy this AP with a WLC. Is it possible or workaround to convert the CAPE based IOS in a basic stand-alone SAP version?

    NO.

    Hello

    Have you downloaded this image:

    http://software.Cisco.com/download/release.html?mdfid=284362257&flowid=3...

Be aware that the independent IOS for the 2700 has limited features. Since the 2700 is a novelty, the standalone IOS is wireless site-only for investigation.  It is not intended to serve the customers as of yet.

    How to convert:

  • Power Save Polling (PSP) leads to problems in connection with some access points

    Symptoms:
The following symptoms may be seen if an access point Wi - Fi (AP) or router Wi - Fi broadband does not properly support the Power Save Polling (PSP) feature:

These symptoms may be more pronounced when on battery.

    Cause:
The PSP mode is a feature that provides the long battery life for laptops. It requires coordination between the AP or router and the Wi - Fi adapter. Intel has discovered that some APs or routers may not implement the feature correctly or completely.

    Socorro

Heard different things people try, depending on their wireless adapter.

Start, control panel, device, netowrk, their adapter, power management Manager. Clear the checkbox to allow windows to turn off this device to save power

Start, control panel, device, netowrk, their adapter, advanced management. Looking for antenna diversity. Some cards have it and others don't. Replace the Auto antenna by supply diversity

Some have disabled Wireless N of their card and achieved good results.

Some Wireless N adapters operate ONLY on the 2.4 GHz frequency.

Using these parameters of the recommended wireless router I use channel 11, have GREAT results. I usually recommend creating a new SSID to make the connection easier. Wireless devices also needs to connect to the NEW network.

  • Setting up roaming with 1300ag access points

    Hello

I have been give two 1300ag access point to set up

I was asked to make sure that customers can place a PSA without disconnecting from the network (roaming is the right term?)

I was told that I need to put the same SSID and different channels on two access points

    I doesn't seem to work.

What else needs to be configured?

    Thanks for any help

The APs owe me locayed so that... you should be able to detect the wireless signal between access points... should not be a coverage GAP between access points...

    Exam...

    > Scope of coverage should not be as below...

    AP1                                                              AP2

    <----------------------------------------------->                 <-------------------------------------------------------->

    <--------------->

    no overlap of signal

    > Scope of coverage should be like this...

    AP1

    <----------------------------------------------->AP2

    <-------------------------------------------------------->

    <---------->

    signal overlap

This can be done by installing the AP on the roof and then around homelessness. or even not by any software survey site Cisco ACU or ADU.

  • autonomous access point 1602 with three SSID

    Dears.
I'm 11 1602 sap ap configuration in one of our client's site... he wants three SSIDs, one of them for wireless ip phones.
the problem that I am facing is when I set up the port of the ap in the trunk to allow 4 VLANS, vlan for ap and the rest three VLANS for SSID. I can reach the point of access and the SSID not broadcast... I already configured my core switches with dhcp for VLANs, but it does not work...
switches to kernel running in vrrp active passive scenario...
Please guide me in this setting because I'm not very familiar with wireless solutions.
What is the best practice for this... How to do it.

  • L2 roaming with 2 autonomous access points?

    Hello

Is it possible for 2 1130AG in stand-alone mode to quick support layer 2 roaming?

My clients are a mix of clients of compatible and not cisco cisco ccx.

(Authentication could be open or WPA etc.)

If so, do 1 AP do acts as a WDS?

I fell on the docs that say I need a WLSM and that an acting as a WDS AP don't work...

If I do not use WDS and simply have 2 AP with the same SSID: -.

If I only use open authentication, then the roam would be a little faster?

The AP would update switches upstream MAC tables when a customer changes AP?

    Thank you

Oh, I see now. You get absolutely L2 roaming out of the box. It's all part of the 802.11 Protocol - the customer will inform current accreditation which he left, which AP it will and then he will wander. With open authentication or PSK, it will be almost transparent to the client.

Cisco Secure fast roaming is an entirely different topic. In the above case, if the customer is using the PEAP Protocol, it will need to authenticate to the RADIUS server whenever he roams to a new AP. Cisco FSR puts cached credentials in the WDS AP for fast authentication, which takes the RADIUS server outside the process. This significantly speeds up a course for users of the EAP, and it is especially noticeable (and necessary) for wireless IP phone users.

    Again, I hope it helps!

  • Xbox Live with Mobile access point

Someone had some luck using Xbox Live with the Mobile Hotspot app on Verizon's network? I was finally able to connect to Live using an open network, such as using WPA2 has never worked. However, it doesn't have any way for me to get a NAT open, so I can't play with most of my friends.

And Yes, before you say anything, I know games by phone is not large. But it is faster than the satellite connection, I'm stuck with otherwise.

    Any help is appreciated.

    Hello and welcome to the forums;

According to some google actually associated research to be able to connect to Live but not to join friends, looks like the Xbox 360 may need some specific ports forwarded. Unfortunately for now, the Mobile Hotspot app doesn't support port forwarding, and I suspect that's the reason of your difficulties.

I would recommend which suggests adding this feature for our developers to www.palm.com/feedback .
