Maintenance mode

I get this error message when you try to put an ESXi 4.1 in maintenance mode

Host ESXServer can't be entered in maintenance mode:
SOAP fault:
-----------
Error string: error. RestrictedVersion.summary
Lack of details: RestrictedVersionFault

Thanks for your review.

You use the vCLI or PowerCLI?  In general, you see this message with free ESXi license edition.  This edition is limited to read-only with vCLI/PowerCLI operations, so you should put the host in maintenance with the vSphere client mode.

  • DELL Dimension XPS T800r CMOS Maintenance Mode worries...

Greetings, good people of the world of DELL!

I'm working on a desktop DELL Dimension XPS T800r for a neighbor.

    The original complaint: no video

Some things have changed since yesterday when I worked on it, then read on...

Here's what I've done so far in order:

    (855) 935-7526 *. Exchanged video from a well-known donor cards.  No change.

    2. the DIAGNOSTIC LEDS on the back panel has found.

3 DIAGNOSTIC LIGHTS remain DARK during the start attempt.

    4. consultation documentation DELL for LIGHT codes DIAGNOSTIC.

    5. the code is: All the DARK - turns on by default.

    6. again consulted the DELL documentation to identify what to do:

    (a) reinstall microprocessor

    (b) remove all the expansion cards

    7. After you do both.  No change.

8 using the prior computer knowledge, I pulled ALL of the motherboard except the feeding fittings and connections on the front panel.  I unplugged all connectors power hard drive as well.  I left only the CPU fan connected to the motherboard.  I checked the power supply against DELL standards and all is good.

    9. now, knowing the CMOS batteries, I checked the voltage on board.  He was 3.1VDC.  Seems good.  I didn't want to remove it, so in order to make sure it's properly plugged in, I turned the battery making to create a better connection.  That's where things have changed since yesterday...

10 leave the BARE Board, I plugged it in to the power supply.  Silence.  Only the yellow led on the motherboard lit up.

    11. I installed the CPU and VIOLA!, LIGHTS flash YELLOW for a second DIAGNOSIS, and both fans turn quickly upward, then will stop altogether.  The yellow led on the motherboard remains on.

12 DELL documentation contains this code to represent: card system is powered,
but the BIOS is not executed.

    13. I think turn battery CMOS created a better connection (the computer IS almost 16 years old) giving me a response to market now.

    14. I tried to reinstall everything and document what happens after turning the power on.  Nothing changes beyond this point.  LIGHTS DIAGNOSTIC flash YELLOW briefly, and the power supply and fan rotation CPU for a second, then stop.

15 DELL documentation suggests putting the system in MAINTENANCE MODE by the CMOS jumper

This computer is almost 16 years old, and very probably, the owner has not saved the BIOS settings.

This is what is installed, before the Panel:

    A CD-ROM drive

    An IOMEGA Zip drive

    A floppy drive

    Now to the question:

Since I have no way to backup or recover the CMOS settings, I hesitate to put the jumper to MAINTENANCE MODE to see if the computer will boot all the way to the top.  I'm not potentially make the computer unusable in maintenance or replacing the battery mode, even though I would replace the battery because of the line due to age.

    The DELL documentation:

NOTICE: Pass by the maintenance mode returns all settings in the
Installer system to their default values. Dell highly recommends
that you save or print the current settings before entering in this
mode, so you can fix them when the system is reset to normal
    mode.

What do you think will happen if I reset the default BIOS by moving the jumper and replacing the battery?

I will cause a catastrophic failure?

Now, the other side of the coin is that the system is relatively basic, so I have to enter the starting sequences and other isn't a big deal.  I hope...

At worst, I'll have to use a drive caddy to retrieve its data from the hard drive.

Thanks in advance for all your help and support!

    Austin Cajiao

In case it helps someone, re-seats maps microprocessor and expansion got the computer fully functional again.  I guess that for a computer in 16 years, the tabs or oxidize some and created resistance which forbade the computer recognition and power.  It works fine now.

  • lyingWhen application of a fix via ADOPTION, he failed with the AutoPatch error: you must be in Maintenance Mode to apply the patches.

Everything by applying the patch Patch 18345006 as explained in Doc 1981206.1 , in the phase to apply it, I get the error

    AutoPatch error:

You must be in Maintenance Mode to apply the patches.

You can use the AD Administration utility to set the Maintenance Mode.

I'm on Oracle EBS 12.2.4, Windows 2008 R2 x 64, 2 appl_tops not shared and the error occurs on the primart node.

    How I applied the patch

    source, run fs

adoption phase = apply patches = 18345006 = no allnodes

The issue was that my tns ifile was entered incorrectly for _PATCH entered tns. After having corrected the phase to APPLY fine.

Apparently, the maintenance mode error is just a smoke screen

  • ADadmin '5. Change the Maintenance Mode' option is missing

Hello. I use adadmin. I need to put the server in maintenance mode, but the number of option 5 (change in maintenance mode) is missing:

    It only shows this:

    1 generate Applications files menu

    2. maintain the Applications files menu

    3. menu compilation/Reload Applications database entities

    4. maintaining the menu of Applications database entities

    5. exit AD Administration

    Why is this? any help?

    Thank you.

    Hi Luis,.

If its EBS R12.2 then YES - "Change maintainenace mode" option is not there in adadmin menu since we have online (adop) patch in R12.2. This option is removed from adadmin once you activate the correction online.

Can you let us know what tasks you want to put the server mode maintainace?

Not sure, but you can check if you are able to put the server in maintenance manually mode using adsetmmd.sql.

  • Maintenance mode to create query strings?

Why should I switch to Maintenance Mode to create query string parameters?  I created query string parameters in the past and I have never been held to switch to maintenance mode.  If I go to activate maintenance mode, here is the message I get:

Maintenance mode is currently DISABLED. Click on the button at the bottom of the page to activate the Maintenance Mode. With the Maintenance Mode on visitors register as not being on the Web site.

Then... I guess I have to move fast while it is in maintenance mode, so I don't miss the important Web site visitors.  I just took an Eloqua University class on the web of profiling and of maintenance mode was not mentioned when creating query string parameters.

Just wondering why this requirement has been added in order to create new query string settings?  I'm sure there is a good reason, but I was surprised by this today.

    Hi Vince,.

Maintenance mode is necessary if you are generating a high volume of web traffic. When the volume of Internet traffic is low, the system is able to create the settings while continuing to capture relevant data provided by all. If the traffic volume is high, the system cannot create additional "fields" in the database at the same time perform all write-queries that generate your visitors. In addition, when the new channels/parameters sets query are created, the system must comb all existing data to find these settings in one of the existing data, so if clickstream data is generated more quickly that the script can work through the data, it would cause a problem.

So yes, it is possible that sometimes maintenance mode will be needed, and other times not. If necessary, its best to activate only for very short periods of time, as Yes, all incoming data in maintenance mode is ignored.

  • Maintenance mode vcenter 6 active cluster Ha

    Hello

I have a cluster 6 version which consist of version 6 of 5 host, but when I put my hosts in Maintenance mode, it blocks just task to 2%, not had the license for DTH.

My config HA is turn off: power of VM allow operations that violate constraints of availability.

My vmotion works because if I move-vm by powercli, it works correctly.

Why HA mode do not move vm other hosts

    Thank you

To do this, you need DRS. HA will just restart VMs in case a physical host fails, but it won't live vMotion migrate virtual machines when you put a host into maintenance mode.

You must manually migrate all the virtual machines in this host if you put it in maintenance mode.

  • Host profile in vSphere 6 - requirements of Maintenance Mode

I was instructed to check the profiles of the vSphere host 6.  The main reason why we don't use them in our environment v5.5 is because when you apply the profile of the host a host to perform a restoration, regardless of change in a significant way, there must be a maintenance of the host mode.  This poses an administrative challenge in my environment.

So, I have been instructed to read that vSphere 6 had updated Host Profiles to demand maintenance mode only if required by the properties defined by the profile of specified host.  I think OK, now trivial changes like adding that a group of ports for a vSwitch will not require the host to be maintenance mode trying to "clean up" the host with a profile of the host that makes this type of low level change.  Unfortunately, I still get the error "host must be in before maintenance mode a host profile can be applied to him" whenever I try to apply a profile of the host to a host that is in non-compliance, no matter how tiny change.

Everyone knows this?  I have something misconfigured?

vSphere 6: updates to Host Profiles - VMware vSphere Blog - VMware Blogs

OK I thought about it.  This new feature to Host Profiles fact exist, but it only exists in the Web Client vSphere.  The vSphere client c# don't has not been updated to behave this way, it always requires a host to be in the mode of maintenance for all corrections.

Time to start using the web client more.  = S

  • Rules of affinity and maintenance mode

I have a virtual machine with a virtual machine to host mandatory "must" affinity rule that it must run on a single server ESXi 5.5.

I'm going to try to put this ESXi host in maintenance mode.

If the virtual machine with the affinity to the broad rule, but leave that it registered to the same host ESXi 5.5 power I, I then be able to put the ESXi host in maintenance mode?

Or do I actually move the engine off the virtual computer to another host and enter it here to the ESXi host be allowed to enter maintenance mode?

    Thank you!

According to my understanding affinity rule anti affinities and rules run on virtual machines running. So either hospitality you can keep the virtual machine.

  • vCO Bug - Maintenance mode?

    Hello

I find that the workflow item 'Exit Maintenance Mode' does not work. If I place a host in maintenance mode (clearly working, vsphere client) and then try to run the workflow, he does not see the host as being in maintenance mode.

I tried to write my own scriptable task:

    var ConnectionState = host.runtime.inMaintenanceMode;

    System.log(ConnectionState);

    [09:45:14.393 2014-09-02] [I] false

The result of this is always False.

    Any ideas?

This may be caused by the use of the service of the inventory. Try to disable it by adding the following line to the file vmo.properties vCO

    com VMware.o11n.vim.useInventoryService = false

  • close procedure, necessary maintenance mode?

    Hello

We add the ram for the blades of our production. We will stop the running virtual machines.

I don't remember if I need to place the ESX host in maintenance mode before power off?

    can anyone confirm?

It would be a good idea to set mode maintence first then the front blade power off memory upgrade

VCenter otherwise go see that a unexecpted by saying stop and a virtual machine could land on the blade during power off if you have some DRS will.

  • How to upgrade vcenter host when the host needs to be in maintenance mode

Hi, I have a host 5.5 with 3 VMs (2 production servers and 1 Server vcenter). Now I see for updating the host using vcenter Update Manager documentation is quite simple. The thing I don't understand until you can fix, the esx host must be in maintenance mode, which means no VMs, including the vcenter server, which is the only way you can do a right click on the host and choose restore. Now how can I fix if the server is in maintenance mode and my vcenter server is down?

I have the vsphere client installed on my laptop, version 5.5, but him, I did not have the remediation option. How can I put my 5.5 esxi host?

    Thank you

With only one host in place and vCenter Server as a virtual machine running on this host, you cannot use Update Manager. Your options are either interactively update the host using a CD or update patch / the host from the command line using esxcli.
