Memory and snapshot management

Where can I find detailed information on memory and snapshot management in VMware workstation?

Memory:

  • How memory is allocated in the host PC?
  • If I sart a guest VM with 2 GB of RAM with 500 MB of RAM on a host PC with 3 GB of RAM, the amount of memory is allocated on the host?
  • What should happen if I start more guest VM and the amount of memory is the memory available on the host PC?

In summary:

  • How are managed snapshot all the view host to PC file system?
  • What is the role and the content of the files being created whenever I take a snapshot?
  • What is - that supposed to happen if I delete a file containing a snapshot (file, not the snapshot)?

Concerning

  • 1. how memory is allocated in the host PC?
  • 2. If I sart a guest VM with 2 GB of RAM with 500 MB of RAM on a host PC with 3 GB of RAM, the amount of memory is allocated on the host?
  • 3. what should happen if I start more guest VM and the amount of memory is the memory available on the host PC?

  • 5. What is the role and content of the files being created whenever I take a snapshot?
  • 6. What is - that supposed to happen if I delete a file containing a snapshot (file, not the snapshot)?

1. that costs on the settings in your config.ini file
2. the host can use somethiong between 2200 MB and a few MBs - depends on config.ini
3 the host said 'not possible' either the virtual machine starts - with extreme settings, you can allocate 5 x physical RAM available to your virtual machine

4 and 5.

vmsd-file = list used by the customer snapshots
VMSN-file = settings and configuring the host when the snapshot was created
00000*.vmdk = file does the actual data of the snapshot

6. cannot be predicted: anything can happen: System can be will start more or healthy - so NEVER do this

> Should I expect to use as much RAM on the host computer as the sum of memory configured all virtual machines of comments?

again it depends on your config.ini file settings - if twist you config.ini for better performance, then the answer is YES

  • Unable to start the virtual machine and snapshots are missing from snapshot Manager.

    Hello

I'm new here in the VMWARE communities and I don't know if I'm posting this survey in the right place. I am currently using VMWARE Workstation 9. The issue I'm having is that I can not start my VM. The error that says:

    vm error.png

This is an overview of my settings:

    settings.png

When I try to get a snapshot I can go back, I get this snapshot Manager screen:

    snapshot.png

I checked the files on the directory of the virtual machine. The snapshot files are still there.

I tried to solve the problem by editing the configuration of virtual machine file to use another vmdk. I got an error saying something about the parent and the child are not synchronized. Sorry I don't have a screenshot of that. I also tried to make a copy of one of the other VMDK and rename it to match with the name of the missing file. That also made me anywhere I tried looking on the net but I get answers to other vmware ESXi and vSphere products. So I don't know if they apply to my current situation.

At this point, I'm hoping to recover my machine or at least be able to use snapshots. Please notify.

I think that the restoration was the best way to solve this problem. I actually checked the different files, but it looks like I missed something. In any case, create snapshots with the virtual machine in a state engine is my personal preference. It is not only to save disk space (since there is no need to preserve the current state of memory), but also provides a consistent state. As for the number of snapshots, you're always on the stop side, and if you are not having issue of performace with small changes you make you should be ok. In case there is a performance problem, you may consider to store the computer virtual on an SSD that will certainly help.

Since the Center of Documentation of VMware Workstation 10

To the premises of the virtual machines, you can take more than 100 snapshots for each linear process. For shared virtual computers and remote, you can take a maximum of 31 snapshots for each linear process.

  • Snapshot and update Manager

    HI guys

I'm new to the VM world, and slowly picking up his songs, I want to understand the Update Manager and snapshot in VMware infrastructure.

Could someone provide me with the link to load a few good documents relating to the object above and it would be wonderful if there is no CBT/video?

  • Snapshot Manager, or "vim - cmd vmsvc/snapshot.get" see instant

We have a VM with 4 virtual drives reserved Server ESXi 5.5. After the backup of POS operation failed I found snapshot files * - 0000xx - delta.vmdk as well as a correspondent for *.vmsd file. There was no entry snapshot in the Snapshot Manager then tried to consolidate snapshots suite http://kb.vmware.com/kb/1002310

But it seems that ESXi host does not know snapshots:

    ~ # vim - cmd vmsvc/getallvms

VMID Guest OS Version Annotation file name

    2 VMname [datastore] VMname/VMname.vmx oracleLinux64Guest vmx-10

    ~ # vim - cmd vmsvc/snapshot.get 2

    Download Snapshot:

    ~ #

If I try to create a new snapshot there not almost immediately but new *-0000 x + 1 - delta.vmdk files are created and no error message is vmware.log.

    ~ # vim - cmd vmsvc/snapshot.create 2 test test_snapshot 0 0

    Create the snapshot:

    Create the Snapshot failed

If I understand the memory snapshot creation he works long enough but doesn't have the same way, but I can see ' SnapshotVMXTakeSnapshotComplete: made by snapshot 'test': 325 ' end of vmware.log. Hostd.log I see some warnings:

  • Memory and large paintings

I'm supposed to work on the code for a lab, and they reported possible problems with labVIEW eating through memory on long experience.  Someone in front of me tried to solve the problem, but I'm not sure if it's really help.  (I'm more familiar with languages such as C++ and did not use LabVIEW until this summer).

Where I think that the problem is with the table (in a loop).  Based on the experience that the tables will be different sizes so how they manage the table is:

-> It is a picture of a cluster of 2 elements

-> The table is connected to a shift register.

-> Change of registry is initialized before the opening loop by plugging in the shift register to a cluster of 2 '0 ".

-> Each cycle loop they add new (a new cluster) data in the table on 'building the matrix '.

There are several of these paintings, all being drawn so that they use 'building Cluster Array' and then this thread to the corresponding parcel (a XY Chart).  They use this after 'building the table '.

This used to be, so the berries would expand and crash the program.  Anyone who added me an option to clear the tables, but I'm not sure if the way she conceived him actually free the memory since they are still a few problems.  The user enters a number in a control "become clear:  At each iteration that is a multiple of this number, the program passes the register shift an array containing a single element.  The table happened to put in place the same as the array passed to the initialization process.

My concern is that code says never specifically delete the table or free the memory.  It feels very similar to the situation in C++ when the programmer dynamically creates a table (again) but never releases the table (using delete), instead, they just change where the pointer points.  He memory would be always linked towards the top and unusable.

So I guess my question is, looking at the process above should use "remove table" to free the memory and let the program runs faster on longer experiences with large sets of data or makes labVIEW automatically deallocate this memory and so I should I should I look elsewhere in my program for the process that would slow down everything on experiences longer?

    Thank you

  • sound recorder, no not enough memory available to complete this operation. Quit one or more applications to increase available memory, and then try again.

I tried to use sound recorder to test a microphone and it came with an error message after pressing the record and then he said, sound recorder, not stop not enough memory available to complete this operation. Quit one or more applications to increase available memory, and then try again. This issue is out of nowhere because he has never had this problem before. It's a brand new computer that ive built from the bottom up, and I have 4 GB of memory. only a little more than 2 is actually identified by windows xp, however. Ive looked in the Task Manager and it says I have 2 GB of free, so I don't know what to do

    Hi superconfused123,

This problem occurs because of a design limitation in the tape recorder.

  • Computer suddenly sucks memory and does not release it

I am running WIN XP SP3 and IE 8.  I have 1 G of RAM.  The computer will allow more RAM to be installed.  Lately, my CPU usage is 100%.  I think I understand the memory and not release it when a program is closed.  The main culprit appears to be IE8.  In the past, the use of the mem has about 200 000 to 250, 000 K.  Now, it's always more 350 000 K or even 400 000 K. I think that part of the reason is that I use yahoo mail and they have eliminated "Classic Mail".  I had to upgrade the e-mail program. I tried to use gmail, but it all works, he wants me to upgrade (or even change my browser) my browser. I'm limited to the updates because of the OP SYS and the age of the computer (at least 10 years).  I can't buy a new computer, rental of which is the cost.  I also had to set up a wireless secured to a modem in the next room.

Does anyone have any suggestions on how I can remedy this situation.

    Thanks in advance

100% CPU usage does not necessarily mean that your memory is exhausted.  When you use all your 1 g of RAM and need more, Windows will go on the hard drive and use virtual memory.  Disk access is very slow (and your system will be slow), but because your computer is waiting for access to the drive (and not the CPU), your CPU usage will not be 100% but your hard drive access light may be on constantly.

Do you still have the problem when you start Internet Explorer in "SafeMode (no Addons)?

    Start-> programs-> Accessories-> system-> Internet Tools explore (no Addons)

If this is not the case, go to tools-> Addons manage and disable some addons and plugins until you find the one that can give you problems.

  • Driver DVD disappear from 'My computer' and 'Device Manager '.

Vista HP Portable DVD player continues to disappear from 'My computer' and 'Device Manager '. Already tried Upper/LowerFilters.

Hi, a few weeks ago, the DVD burner in the laptop suddenly disappearedmy computer (Windows Explorer).  The first thing I did was check theDevice Manager to see if the drive was there.  It was not the case.  Restarting the laptop did nothing.  Repeated several times, active Vista updates.  No change.  By checking the net, I tried to delete the Upper/LowerFilters in the registry, download it tool Microsoft fix , delete iTunes, do a system restore, to change all the parameters of thesleep and hibernation off and a few other things.  It appeared for the first time after that:

    1. Do a restore of the system for the first restore point.
    2. Remove the DVD writer.
    3. Restarting the laptop.
    4. Research of new hardware in Device Manager .
    5. Change all parameters of standby and Hibernate off. (I tried this method without this step first, but the drive disappeared after the computer went to sleep and woke up.)  Tried 3 times with the same results).
    6. Closing.
    7. Reinsert the DVD burner.

On the next reboot, the DVD writer has been recognized and ended up in my computer and Device Manager .  No errors of any kind and no drivers were installed at startup.

What has happened since then, in the last 4 or 5 days, is randomly disappears from thedesktop .  Usually after a few hours or more.  This time, however, it usually appears inDevice Manager after a search of new material.  No reboot required.  It will read from a DVD .avi files each time.  It has not been detected byDevice Manager maybe about 2 or 3 times, and after a simple reboot, it will be present inmy computer and Device Manager automatically after a reboot.  I read that the superior/UpperFilter mark has worked for many people, but for some, the problem returns.  In addition, many of the discussions on this question and proofreading are years.  It happened about 10 days ago.  Within 2 days before the problem appeared first, it was an update of windows, but also an update of iTunes.

I noticed that I received this error when opening iTunes:

"The registry settings used by the iTunes for importing and burning CDs and DVDs are missing. This can occur as a result of installing other CD burning software. Please reinstall iTunes. ''

I have not reinstalled, no DVD player.  Uninstalled itunes again.  Since I finally got the drive to appear (using the method I described above), I did bother to reinstall iTunes because I particularly need it on this computer, worried that it may be the cause of the original problem and I wanted to see if the disc disappears again.  I did do it, however, let QuickTime installed.  Don't know if this could be a problem?

I stumbled upon this suggestion, but I also had the same question as the next post, and I have not seen a response.  I don't know if or how I should try:

    Nikki,

You can not go back if the restore points aren't there. Try to reinstall the IDE driver.

    To do:
-Click on the round to start and right click on computer
-Left click on properties, this will open the system window
-Click on device high Managerin left
-Click on continue if prompted by UAC
-Goto the 'IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers' you should right click on uninstall and restart

BTW that dog rox in this avitar

See you soon! MCP. MCDST. LVL 80

Hi, thanks for the comment on my puppy. She is now 5 MB and her name is Nikki, lol.

Well, I tried what you said, but the IDE ATA/ATAP controllers has a (+), so when I select it does give me not an option to uninstall. It is for me (analysis of the physical changes (or) properties).       and if I click on the (+) sign I have 4 different options. 2 channels IDE, Intel (R) 82801 HEM / HBM SATA AHCI controller and Intel(r) ICH8M Ultra ATA Storage controllers - 2850.

    http://social.answers.Microsoft.com/forums/en-us/vistahardware/thread/e3701d75-9dbe-4ae9-9d70-83f14129247c?Prof=required

What I see in "Device Manager", under IDE ATA/ATAP controllers is:

    IDE channel (x 4)

    Ricoh Memory Stick Controller

    Ricoh SD/MMC Host Controller

    Ricoh xD-Picture Card Controller

Controller of PCI standard IDE dual channel (x 2)

The laptop is about 2 years and never had problems.  The DVD burner is hardly used to burn, maybe a total of 5 disks in this time.  It has been used occasionally to read or copy from, but not much.  I'm not convinced that he is dead, as I had 2 die on me in desktop computers, after burning hundreds of CDs in them and read much.

in any case, I was not able to find any bugs or suggestions (with the exception of 'replace' the reader), so I just wanted to describe my specific situation and see if anyone could help out.  Forgive me for information, I have left out, but I am an amateur when it comes to the problems with the computer and still don't know what mean things or where I can get information on my OS, software or hardware.  All anyone can do would be greatly appreciated.

This is the information I have:

    HP Pavilion dv6700 Notebook PC

Optiarc DVD RW AD-7560 ATA Device

    Vista Home Premium

    Service Pack 2

    Thanks again for any help.

    Hello

    1. do you have the software installed on the computer of CD/DVD burning?

Check if the CD/DVD drive is recognized in the BIOS (Basic Input/Output System).
Step 1: We also recommend to uninstall the CD/DVD burning software, if you have everything installed, restart the computer and check the result.
Scan for the device in Device Manager. To do this, try the following steps.
    1. click on start, type devmgmt.msc and press to enter.
    2. click on one of the items in the list, click the Action menu and click Scan for hardware changes.
    3. check if the CD/DVD is displayed.

For more assistance on this, contact the manufacturer of the laptop.

    Kind regards

  • Hard drive shows in the Bios and Device Manager but not in disk management.

I recently had a hard drive fail because of the excessive heat in the computer case (he also took a memory too). When I plug the drive as a secondary drive in any computer it will appear in the Bios and the Manager of devices, but not in disk management, nor can it be considered be as ZAR and Spinrite disk utility.

The disc spins up and down when turned on and seems to work. Just trying to recover data from the disk, so I can put it on a new drive.

    Any ideas?

If its not shown in disk management I would use this bootable HD to the utility check disk (probably all riders is set correctly?)

  • Problem with the Auto-Snapshot manager after domain change

    Hello

I have a client with a FailoverCluster Hyper-v and CSV.

They recently changed their internal domain name, and since then, they have problems connecting to the PS Group in the Auto-snapshot Manager.

    I get an error saying:

I hope someone can point me in the right direction :)

I suspect that your iSCSI initiator has problems connecting to volumes - and your problem is, in fact, isolated ASM / me.  Check the RUNAS account used on the services of the DSO to ensure that they use the appropriate domain credentials.

  • audiodg.exe uses extreme amounts of memory and is a memory leak

In my version of Win7, I noticed that the audiodg.exe problem since the days of Vista as posted here http://blogs.msdn.com/larryosterman/archive/2007/01/31/what-is-audiodg-exe.aspx have not been resolved to the extent of the audiodg.exe is concerned. I am exceeding 980 mb after that a few hours of computer work on my system and the CPU (3 hearts) gets POUNDED by this process later. Once I have kill the audiodg.exe in my system task manager becomes very fast and catchy as it should be. However, I lose all sound.

I have a card his Creative Labs X - Fi Xtreme with the latest drivers for Windows 7.

Why has this file and its inability to free the memory that should not have been treated for Windows 7? allocation of 980 mb on a 4 GB system for this driver file is ridiculous! I don't like how many bells and whistles your soundcard uses, it is an astronomical amount of memory it consumes and refuses to release back to the system.

ALT-tab between applications once this process is killed becomes as sensitive and night on my system.

    PLEASE FIX THIS FILE!

I don't buy a preconfigured PC because they never are good imo. I have a Gigabyte mobo, 4 GB of memory Corsair (Dominator), graphics card Sapphire Radeon ATI 3870, Coolermaster HAF 932 case, 720 processor Phenom II AMD and Creative XFi Xtreme card sound w/Windows 7 drivers. All the drivers are always up-to-date for all. No overclocking (yet) done. Windows 7 Pro version version too.

I'll take a look at this link, but IMO there is a serious issue with the code in the audiodg.exe since Vista process that has not yet been fixed. Some ppl of things on report items is:

    (1) system response extremely slow when alt-tabbing between applications because of the audiodg.exe process. (I've noticed this myself).
    (2) sound recording causes gaps in the audio file created in the same period of 11ms audiodg.exe takes to dump its worker threads. (I have not checked myself that I have no noise, but this gentleman here can attest to this fact here .)
    (3) use of the extremely exorbitant memory and memory leaks the audiodg.exe. (I've noticed myself and he checked with almost 1 GB of memory used on the file audiodg.exe)

I think your link above can be a good solution for this problem of using memory thank you (unless of course your Creative card uses Dolby Digital Live) to find but other issues (1 and 2) should always be addressed to people who have noticed them on this forum and others. I wll contact creative labs and pin them down on resources from misuse or from the memory of this asap services!

The related solution will not work if you are using Ventrilo (I have use a lot) so I'll also contact Creative as to what may be a problem with their services and how they interact with the file subsystem audiodg.exe.

My PC recently turned very, very slowly and often unresponsive.  When I bring up the Task Manager, on the processes tab, I see that Windows.exe uses as much as 1 million K of memory and often the CPU ranges between 50 and 100%.  What is happening while no application works.  I have also noticed that in the Task Manager, there are two processes with the name of the image of windows.exe and consuming all the power and memory has no user name.  When I try to end the process on this one it still won't let me and a message appears saying that I don't have permission to do this, or something to that effect.  I am however able to stop other processes including the windows.exe with my username process.  The cases where it allows me to stop the process, performance improves, but given a little time, again with nothing running, it starts again. Thinking it was a virus, I missed the live update on Norton and performed a full scan, but nothing found.   I also tried Windows defender, but in vain.  Any help on this problem is greatly appreciated.

    Thank you

    Nelms of Yelm

From what I found, Windows.exe is likely malware:

When there is that much material different from Bug_Check is almost always involved
at least some of the issues.

    1. remove ALL power and then reinstall memory cards and cables (at both ends, where possible).
in fact, remove and replace - don't do not just tight. Clean the dust bunnies and ensure that fans
work. Try adding a small fan blowing into the socket to reduce the effects of heat (heat
related not always means excessive heat that something might be too sensitive to the same
    normal levels).

    2. test the memory carefully using methods in the troubleshooters below. Keep in mind
This memory tests only detect all errors as the moment where there are tiny speed differences
between the modules that appear to be identical. It is necessary to test the modules in
    various combinations and models.

3 several of the Bug_Check showed CAUSE nvlddmkm.sys who, in the Nvidia video driver.

This error is usually a driver problem and display adapter (video) driver is the most suspicious if she
may be others. Antivirus/antispyware/security programs, equipment (heat) and major software problems
can also cause the error. When you get to the section of the driver to use the Troubleshoot utility my generic
methods in the next message and then return to the if necessary troubleshooting tool.

Have you recently added hardware or drivers updated? Don't forget to look in Control Panel - Windows

update drivers and memory test and then return to the troubleshooter if necessary.

    BCCode: 7F 0x0000007E which is also 0x1000007E

    Cause

SYSTEM_THREAD_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED bug control is a very common bug control. TO
interpret, you must identify which exception has been generated.

    Common exception codes are:

    • 0 x 80000002: STATUS_DATATYPE_MISALIGNMENT indicates an unaligned data reference was encountered.

    • 0 x 80000003: STATUS_BREAKPOINT indicates a breakpoint or ASSERTION was met when no kernel debugger was attached to the system.

    • 0xc0000005: STATUS_ACCESS_VIOLATION indicates a memory access violation has occurred.

For a complete list of exception codes, see the Ntstatus.h file located in theinc directory
the Microsoft Windows Driver Kit (WDK).

    Solve the problem

If you do not have to debug this problem, you must use certain basic troubleshooting techniques.

    • Make sure you have enough disk space.
    • If a driver is identified in the bug check message, disable the driver or check with the
    • Reference of the manufacturer for driver updates.
    • Try changing video cards.
    • Check with your hardware vendor for updates to the BIOS.
    • Disable the BIOS memory options such as implementing caching or shading.

If you plan to debug this problem, you may find it difficult to get a stack trace. Parameter 2
(the address of the exception) must identify the driver or function that caused the problem.

If the exception code 0 x 80000003 occurs, a hard-coded breakpoint or assertion was hit, but the system
has been launched with the /nodebug. switch. This problem should occur infrequently. If it occurs repeatedly,
Make sure that a kernel debugger is connected and the system is booted with the Switch/DEBUG .

In case of exception code 0 x 80000002, the trap frame provides additional information.

If you do not know the specific cause of the exception, consider the following questions:

    • Hardware incompatibility. Make sure all new hardware that is installed is listed in the
    • List of Microsoft Windows Marketplace tested products.
    • Service driver or defective peripheral system. A service driver or defective peripheral system can be
    • responsible for this error. Hardware problems, such as the incompatibilities of the BIOS, memory, conflicts
    • and IRQ conflicts can also generate this error.

If a driver is listed by name in the bug check message, disable or remove that driver. Disable
or remove drivers or services that have been recently added. If the error occurs during startup
sequence and the system partition is formatted with the NTFS file system, you may be able to use safe
Mode to rename or to delete the faulty driver. If the driver is used as part of the system startup procedure
in Safe Mode, you must start the computer by using the Recovery Console to access the file.

If the problem is associated with Win32k.sys, the source of the error may be a third remote
control program. If this software is installed, you can remove the boot of the computer service
by using the Recovery Console, and then by removing the offending system service file.

Check the system log in Event Viewer for additional error messages that might help identify the
device or the driver that generated the bug check 0x7E.

You can also disable memory cache BIOS may try to resolve the error. You should also
Run the diagnostics of material, especially the scanner memory, which provides the manufacturer of the system.
For more information about these procedures, see the manual of your computer.

The error that generates this message may occur after the first reboot during Windows Setup, or
Once the installation is complete. A possible cause of the error is lack of disk space for installation and system
BIOS incompatibilities. For problems during the installation of Windows that are associated with the absence of disc
space, reduce the number of files on the disk drive hard target. Find and delete any temporary
the files that you do not have to have files hidden Internet, backup application and.chkfiles files that
contain fragments of file saved to disk scans. You can also use another hard drive with more drive
free space for the installation. You can solve the problems of BIOS by upgrading the version of the system BIOS.

References to Vista also apply to Windows 7.

Have you recently added any hardware? Have you updated any drivers just before this started? (Check
Panel configuration-updates of Windows to see if all drivers have been updated it there all the time it started)
Main likely culprits are video driver, other great drivers, memory and antivirus/antispyware/security
products could be at fault as well as reader questions.

Use the troubleshooter below and refer to the following message to drivers and memory when you get to
These sections and then back to the resolution of the problems according to the needs.

    BCCode: 50 0 x 00000050

    Cause

The BCCode 50 usually occurs after the installation of faulty hardware, or in case of failure
hardware installed (usually associated with a faulty RAM, be it the main memory, L2 RAM cache memory, or)
    Video RAM).

Another common cause is a defective system service installation.

Antivirus software can also trigger this error, as can a corrupted NTFS volume.

    Solve the problem

Solve a defective hardware problem: If the material has been added to the system recently,
Remove to see if the error recurs. If existing hardware has failed, remove or replace
the defective component. You must run the diagnostics of material provided by the manufacturer of the system.
For more information about these procedures, see the manual of your computer.

Fix a defective system service: Disable the service and confirm that this
resolves the error. If so, contact the manufacturer of the service on a possible system
Update. If the error occurs during the system startup, restart your computer, and press F8 to
character mode menu that displays the choice of operating system. As a result
Windows Advanced Options, select last good known Configuration option menu.
This option is most effective when a pilot or a service is added at a time.

Solve a problem of antivirus software: Disable the program and confirm that this fixes
the error. If this is the case, contact the manufacturer of the program about a possible update.

Fix a corrupted NTFS volume:  Run Chkdsk /f /r to detect and repair disk
errors. You must reboot the system before the start of the analysis of disk on a system partition. If
the hard drive is SCSI, check for problems between the SCSI controller and the disk.

Finally, check the system log in Event Viewer for additional error messages that might help
identify the device or driver that generated the error. Disable the cache in memory of the BIOS
    could also resolve it.
