Message keeps Occuring invalid Version of Windows Vista...

I have an old laptop MX6440 Gateway and I bought it new from the store with XP installed on it. Later, I upgraded the laptop for Windows Vista. The upgrade, that I bought at Best Buy was legal and I paid for it. I installed upgrading Windows Vista to the Gateway laptop and it worked great no problems and no problems at all and I was using the laptop for at least a year and I went out a bought a new laptop Gateway, so I put the old one back in the box it came and put it in my closet. The unit has been sitting there for a while, but I recently took it outside and needed to use it.

I plugged in and let the battery charge because the battery was dead sitting, so after a 1/2 hour, I pressed the key on and the machine. Well, I got to know my user name and password and he has accepted it and then at the start-up phase. The machine just kept hanging and doesn't move at all and after about 5 minutes that a message in the lower right corner appeared saying: "Invalid Version of Windows Vista. I watched the message in complete perplexity and at the moment I don't know what it meant invalid version.

I decided to restart the laptop and put it in Safe Mode, and it came with no error message (s) at all. I was able to get to the main screen without any problems at all. I was able to make an update of windows for laptop and it took some time, but she completed successfully. Then I restarted the laptop and tried to log on to the laptop in normal mode. The same message came back stating "Invalid Version of Windows Vista. I said to myself, I would try to re - install the OS, but I bit the original disc with the 25-character alphanumeric code, however, I've looked everywhere I mean everywhere and I didn't do it.

No one knows how to fix this problem I have described...?

If so, I appreciate all your efforts and your time. Thank you.

Hi Fox Pongrac,

Thanks for posting your question in the Microsoft Community Forums.

Because you receive the error message "Invalid Version in Windows Vista", you must activate the copy of Windows Vista by using the product key 25 digits that you used to install Windows Vista on this laptop.

How to activate Windows Vista

We can also refer to article and check if it helps.

Resolve activation problems

You may also validate the copy of Windows Vista.

Validate Windows Vista

If you are unable to find the disc or product key to activate or reinstall Windows Vista, you can check with the help of the bridge for further assistance.

If you are using a copy of Windows Vista retail, you can get in touch with Support Microsoft client with the necessary information and check if it helps.

    Installation - 'upgrade' means what?
Upgrade means that you can install Windows 7 simply by inserting the Windows 7 upgrade software in the DVD drive of your PC and follow the instructions on the screen. While you are not required to backup and reinstall your files, or reinstall your programs, it is a very good idea to back up your files and settings before you start any upgrade to the software. Get more information on the software updates and best practices .

Installation - what does "Custom (Clean)" Mean?
A custom (clean) installation clears the contents of the hard drive of your PC. Your files, settings, and programs will not be transferred to Windows 7. This means that to install Windows 7, you must:

    • Back up any files and settings you want to keep

    • Install Windows 7

    • Reinstall all your files

    • Reinstall all the programs you want to use.

These four steps take time, skills, techniques and Windows Easy Transfer can help. However, if you are not comfortable with this process, please consider having the installation carried out by a local service provider.

    Hi lugnuts.

You experience this problem, because you have installed the beta version of Windows Vista Service pack 1 (SP1) on the computer.

Before coming to the evaluation license expiry date, you must uninstall the Windows Vista SP1 update package.

How to get Vista recovery Media and/or to use the Vista recovery Partition on your computer.

There is no Vista free download legal available.

Contact your computer manufacturer and ask them to send a recovery disk/s Vista set.

Normally, they do this for a cost of $ small.

In addition, ask them if you have a recovery Partition on your computer/laptop to restore it to factory settings.

See if a manual provided with the computer or go to the manufacturer's website, email or you can call for information on how to make a recovery.

Normally, you have to press F10 or F11 at startup to start the recovery process...

Another way I've seen on some models is press F8 and go to a list of startup options, and launch a recovery of standards of plant with it, by selecting the repair option.

You can also make recovery disk/s for the recovery Partition in case of a system Crash or hard drive failure.

They will tell you how to do this.

Every computer manufacturer has their way of doing recovery disk/s.

Or borrow a good Microsoft Vista DVD (not Dell, HP, etc).
A good Vista DVD contains all versions of Vista.
The product key determines which version of Vista is installed.

There are 2 disks of Vista: one for 32-bit operating system, and one for 64-bit operating system.

If install a cleaning is required with a good DVD of Vista (not HP, Dell recovery disks):

Go to your Bios/Setup, or the Boot Menu at startup and change the Boot order to make the DVD/CD drive 1st in the boot order, then reboot with the disk in the drive.

At the startup/power on you should see at the bottom of the screen either F2 or DELETE, go to Setup/Bios or F12 for the Boot Menu

  • Hi, I have a laptop running Windows XP Home Edition (32-bit) SP3. I would like to know which versions of Windows Vista I can upgrade.

    Hello
I have a laptop running Windows XP Home Edition (32-bit) SP3. It is a true copy that came pre-installed with my custom Dell Vostro 1000 (I know... very old...). I would like to know which versions of Windows Vista I can update.

You can upgrade to Vista Home Basic, Home Premium, Business or Ultimate.  See the get Windows Vista: upgrade options of page.

  • I would like to know which version of Windows Vista I have?

    Original title: PII deleted.

I have a laptop HP pavilion dv6700 without the hard drive and I would like to know which version of Windows Vista the above key is for. Thanks for your help!

    Hello

If the edition of Vista is not written on the COA sticker, I suggest that you ask in the Forums to Support HP about this:

The COA sticker is either or in the battery compartment on the underside of the laptop.

With a desktop computer, it's on the side, the back or the top of the computer case.

    See you soon.

  • Wong Version of Windows Vista

    Hello

I recently reinstalled Windows Vista on my Dell Studio XPS 1640. I don't have a relocation to Moose DVD I bought this from craigslist. I used an old, that I had for many years. There are a lot of players missing and I can't connect to the internet to install and update everything. The disc I used was

Dell reinstallation DVD - Windows Vista - Home Premium - 32 BIT SP1

    Copyright Dell 2008 P/N K967G

How can I update my system with the correct version of Windows Vista? Or connect to the internet to update everything. Please notify.

    Thank you!

    Hello

I'm sorry, but you cannot use another disc from Dell to another computer running a different operating system to reinstall the operating system on your Dell computer.

These recovery disks are related to the particular model of the machine that they were originally installed on.

And you can't spend now installed operating system for what you want.

You must use the correct support and start over.

See if you still have a Dell recovery partition to reinstall the original operating system from:

If not available, you will need to follow these reinstall methods:

You can contact Dell and ask them to send you a set of recovery disks.

They should do this for a small fee.

Some manufacturers have more available Vista recovery disks.

If this happens, you may need to try this instead:

You can also borrow and use a Microsoft Vista DVD, which contains the files for the different editions of Vista (Home Basic, Home Premium, Business and Ultimate) must be installed. The product key on your computer / Laptop box determines what Edition is installed.

Other manufacturers recovery DVDs are should not be used for this purpose.

And you need to know the version of 'bit' for Vista, as 32-bit and 64-bit editions come on different DVDs

Here's how to do a clean install of Vista using a DVD of Vista from Microsoft:

And once the operating system is installed, go to your computer manufacturer's website and get the latest drivers for your particular model or laptop computer.

And phone Activation may be necessary when you use the above installation method.
