Migrate the physical Machine

Hello

How can I migrate a physical machine in vmware server 2 on CentOS 5.

Thank you.

I think he should choose 'VMware virtual machine' as a type of destination.

  • Share the reader of fingerprints between the physical Machine and VM

I have a lenovo W541 with build - in fingerprints, how to share.

PM with W8.1 already use it, how to use it also to open a session in OS in WM?

    Best regards

    Paolo

    Hi Paolo,.

Also, I have a Thinkpad W541 and scratched my head on how to use the fingerprint reader, integrated runtime for example 10 Windows on a virtual machine-machine since my cell phone - and then came across this thread.

After comparing the 'Device Manager' on my VM-machine as well as on the physical laptop I have seen that on the VM machine there was no "biometric devices" not appearing on the VM machine. Of course, I also checked the hardware VM definition dialog if there was a possibility of adding such a device, but it was not.

So I thought that I was stuck. But I found a solution that is at least sufficient for my needs. I noticed that one of the icons on the side in the bottom right of my machine-VM running (running Windows 10) - there is an icon that has been disabled but when hovering with the mouse it will read "validity sensors sensors Synaptics PS (WBF) (PID = 0017).

After a right-click and selecting "Connect (disconnect host)" there's a new device that appeared in the Windows Device Manager 'Unknown device' and opening than treeviewitem I clicked and chose "Install driver" and voila! Now my built-in fingerprint reader can be used when running Windows 10 under my VM workstation!

It is not ideal because it allows to disable the fingerprint reader on the BONES of the physical machine too long that the Windows 10 VM machine is running, but I can live with that. And the good side is that Windows (?) is smart enough to automatically re-enable the drive of fingerprints on my physical machine as soon as the machine-VM is closed / stop.

    I hope this helps!

  • Cannot start the physical machine converted to a virtual machine under ESXi 4.0

    Hi all

I have 2 has with the material below

Dell optiplex 755 2.4 Qcore 4 GB of RAM and 160 GB of HARD drive

A performer with ESXi 4.0 other runs with Windows 2003.

I tried to convert physical machine with "Vmware Vcenter converter Stand alone" 4.0.1 build 161434

I used the tool on the source machine and by another machine on the network.

The two process converts the physical machine to a virtual machine successfully without any errors.

After conversion, the virtual machine cannot start, and shows only a small slider that is not flashing too.

The physical machine have a single partition of 160 GB

The space currently used on the physical machine is 26 GB.

I reduced the size of the HARD drive to virtual computer with fix / light available in 40 GB.

point to make here is that the ESX have only 160 GB HDD, so he will not be able to copy all 160 GB because of which I am reducing the 40 GB HARD drive

I converted a few other physical machines with 40 GB HARD drive and they work well after the conversion.

Any sugessions would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks in advance

  • Best practices for p2v - when to stop the physical machine?

After you perform a p2v conversion, when should I stop the physical machine? By default, the virtual machine is turned off after the conversion and characterized by a DHCP address and not the static address that was on the physical machine... Why is this? Not the virtual machine is a duplicate... maybe it's a setting I'm missing the conversion.

Looking for a better practice for the p2v conversion process.

Using Virtual Center 2.5 and the converter built-in.

    Thank you, Rick

Hello and welcome to the forums.

I tend to do the conversion and to choose to not to turn on the virtual machine later.  Once the conversion is completed, I make changes on the hardware as needed and then make sure that "Connect at Power On" is not checked in the device status of the NICs.  Now you can power up to the virtual machine and do what you need to do to prepare (uninstall the old software, change HALs, etc.) without fear of being on the network with the same name or IP address.  Once everything is good in Event Viewer, Device Manager, etc. - I shut down the physical server and then turn on the virtual machine with a "wired" network adapter to test.

Another option would be to use the "Customize the identity of the virtual machine" option towards the end of the wizard import, if you need to be able to have the physical server and the virtual machine on the network at the same time.  This customization will give you virtual machine, a new name server and SID, and then you could just set it to a different IP address.

    Good luck!

  • How the physical machine can communicate with the virtual machines as well as the internet should work on a virtual machine

    Hi team,

I ask that you forgive for asking a silly question without doing a free search.

I'm using VMware workstation 6.5. I am able to communicate with both machines by selecting 'only option of home. "

Is there a way by which the physical machine can communicate with the virtual machines.

At the same time through the VMS, is it possible to access the Internet from the physical amchine.

    Help, please.

    Concerning

    Sriapti

When you use a bridged vNIC the customer acts as any other host, so that you can access is by his IP (or name if a DNS configuration exists as you acceding to any other host.) What tools you can use depends on the guest operating system and the software available.

I assume you mean access deskopt. Then you can use RDP (Windows Terminal services) or VNC (tight/tiny).

For Linux, you can use this last or all the flavors of SSH. In the case of Linux, I use VNC through SSH tunnel. You can also tunnel X through SSH, so if you have an X server on another host (such as the Hummingbird for Windows), you can open your own office remotely there.

  • Use OEM Windows 7 Pro in virtual computer; Enterprise of Windows 8.1 in the physical Machine

    Hello

I need some real tips on Windows license manager that I don't want to go against all Microsoft software license.

As a backdrop, I have the following:

-an OEM Windows 7 Pro that came with the purchase of a Dell PC

-a license in Volume Windows 8 with Software Assurance purchased by my company

I would like to know if I can install the copy of the OEM Windows 7 Pro in a virtual machine on the Dell PC, while having a Windows Installer on the physical PC/computer Dell 8.1. i.e. physical Machine Dell PC = Windows Enterprise 8.1; Virtual machine in the same Dell PC is Windows 7 Pro OEM.

I don't want to do a dual boot to install because it will be difficult to remove once my 3rd party applications fully supports Windows 8.1; and I also want to keep my PC as clean as possible. I also can't use one of the Open License of Windows 8 as a lower upgrade to Windows 7 as this installation will take another license to use.

I read from the windows 7 EULA that:

'Use with Virtualization Technologies. Rather than use the software directly on the licensed computer, you can install and use the software within the virtual (or emulated) only on the licensed computer system... »

I was wondering that the clause applies, but I don't know if the OEM Windows 7 Pro can be activated on a virtual machine because I don't have the OEM product key.

    Yes, you can.

I don't want to do a dual boot to install because it will be difficult to remove once my 3rd party applications fully supports Windows 8.1; and I also want to keep my PC as clean as possible. It's the same clause I was going to paste attesting that you can install the license OEM Windows 7 in a VM.

In addition, since you have Windows Enterprise 8.1, you can use the built in Hyper-v:

Windows 8 integrates into hypervisor called Hyper-V.

This requires that your processor supports the translation of the secondary addresses.

To see if your processor is supported:

Press the Windows key + X

    Click on programs and features

Click on turn Windows features on or off

See if you can check off Hyper-V and all its options of void

If this isn't the case, it does not support Hyper-v.

You can use alternatives such as Oracle VirtualBox or VMWare Player.

  • Cannot start Windows 7 after the conversion of the physical machine

    Hello

I converted my windows 7 64 bit running physical machine to the virtual machine using converter 5.0. I am running VMWare Workstation 8.0. My physical machine hid the 100 MB boot partition and 90 GB main partition. During the conversion, I don't have an option to select a hidden partition, nor did I want in my virtual machine. Conversion failed with the following message (planned):

Unable to find the system volume, reconfiguration is not possible.

Then, I started the virtual machine using the Windows DVD and selected the option "repair". Once I arrived, I used diskpart to make my active primary partition and then followed the steps in this KB http://kb.vmware.com/selfservice/microsites/search.do?language=en_US & cmd = displayKC & externalId = 1037507 to fix everything including BCD. Once this was done, I used converted to reconfigure the virtual computer, and this time he succeeded. Everything was good and as expected up to that point. Now, when I start the VM, I get by BIOS init and then I get a black screen - no messages at all and he vm it is here without doing anything. I tried to fix it again and everything seems good (checked all the information using diskpart, bootrec and bcdedit so that automated repair) - everything seems to be in order, but the black screen is all I see when I try to start.

Any help to guide me to this point is very popular figure.

    Thank you

  • VMworkstation used for the copy of the physical machines

    Hi all

I had the problem with some software legacy on old hardware, and was plesently surprised when I managed the movement of any physical machine to the ESX virtual machine.

    I tested it on VMware-workstation - 6.5.1 - 126130.exe

Everything went a lot when I wanted to test, clone, windows 2003 Server (Local host) object.

When I tried to clone SUN solaris machine using point offered to clone through the IP address of the host, I failed.

Even on SUN Solaris 8, SUN Solaris 10, Suse 10.1

I am currently downolading VMWare workstation for Linux, but the question remains, can I clone physical Linux machine with VMworkstation, using files & gt; import-export option and provide the IP address of the remote to be cloned?

    Thank you

    Workstation has a built-in converter that can handle NT 4 - 2 k 3 - perhaps Vista.

Solaris or Linux or BSD cannot be imported with the embedded version.

For P2V Solaris or BSD, you need to import manually.

To import the distributions RedHat and Suse and Ubuntu - try Converter 4 beta

  • Cannot migrate the physical files using OPE utility loader

    Hi friends,
With my problem of submodel still pending, I am facing another problem - 'Migration to XML Publisher rtf templates'.
I went through the document (DocId:Note 469585.1) regarding 'How to use OPE Loader?'
The document contains commands for the DOWNLOAD and UPLOAD of physical files.
Before you run these commands, I executed the following commands to migrate the "data Definitions" and "Definitions". The commands are the following:-

    [crp2appl@erptrg CRP2_erptrg] $ FNDLOAD apps/apps 0 Y DOWNLOAD $XDO_TOP/patch/115/import/xdotmpl.lct corptmpl.ldt XDO_DS_DEFINITIONS APPLiCATION_SHORT_NAME = "SQLAP" DATA_SOURE_CODE = "XXAPCORPCHQPRT" TMPL_APP_SHORT_NAME = "SQLAP" TEMPLATE_CODE

    [crp2appl@erpdev CLN2_erpdev] $ FNDLOAD DOWNLOAD apps/apps $0 XDO_TOP/patch/115.
    Import/xdotmpl. LCT corptmpl.ldt

After running these two commands, the "definition of data" and "details of the model" are migrated but not physical rtf files.

  • Import of the physical Machine (IDE) makes VM-disks SCSI?

    Workstation: 7.1.4 build-385536

    Hello

I have an old PC that started having starting problems due to some motherboard to powersupply question, so I thought I'd be smart and make a machine VM of it as a backup.

I started the import process, he gave all the info he needed including three discs it necessary and began importing.

I have a VM that blue screens with a 0x7b error, and when I look at one the confiuration of the virtual machine, it is said that all three drives are SCSI.

But it was a host IDE, so I think currently it cannot start because the OS has no SCSI driver.

It is an IMPORT feature that it does only SCSI or done something wrong?

Can I do something for the configuration of the SCSI based VM machine, to make it IDE based VM?

I have searched but cannot find advice on the other way, than that is IDE-> SCSI

I'm not picky, I want just the guy at work, as well as tips on how to inject the SCSI drivers in the VM machine, or similar are all welcome.

    Thank you

    Adrian

Did you leave Converter run the stage/phase reconfiguration or a stage of imagery?

Rerun the converter, and simply choose reconfigure a virtual machine... This will inject the correct SCSI drivers for the virtual disk, to allow the virtual machine boot and load.

  • Migrate the Virtual Machine Linux to ESXi

    Hi all

I have VMware Server 1 base on CentOS as operating system with a few VMs, VMS spot on my map of storage with NFS.

I start converting those VMs with vmware converter 4.0 beta, I convert ESXi virtual machine move to storage even but with iSCSI.

So far I have only converted machines Windows without problem, now, I try to convert the Linux (ContOS 5),

After the conversion, I try to turn on the machine, but get a "Kernel Panic"

    Impossible to mount the SYSROOT.

    Please see attach.

Until I find a solution I return to this virtual machine to the old vmware server 1 and then it works.

    Any idea?

    Thank you.

    Hello

I don't speak of computer virtual SCSI controller, you can get to know that this process.

    (1) select the virtual machine.

    (2) right click go to properties.

    (3) select the Hardware tab, check for SCSI controller entry there you can see if it's the logic Lsi logic or bus controller.

Once again something that I want to confirm, during the conversion, you had a SCSI disk for this virtual machine.

    Thank you

    Dear members,

Please let know us if the migration of a virtual machine for Exchange 2010 is supported to an Esxi host to another, the Esxi version is 5.0.

There are unique Exchange environment with the role of hub, CAS and mailbox on the same virtual server. We have a maintenance window and we think moving exchange virtual machine from one host to another, but before that I need to be sure if it's supported my MS and do not want to have problems after, because I have also gotten to know here in the forums this snapshot for Exchange 2010 is not supported by Ms.

I thought I could use a USB hard drive to copy the VM, but that won't work because ESX will not see the USB drive.
