  I recently formatted my notebook compaq presario v3749au without the recovery disks, because my cd drive does not work. When I saw in the Device Manager, it says that 'sm bus controller, coprocessor and base system device' drivers are missing.   There are no drivers available at HP, except the pre-installed Windows drivers.

  There are 3 generic drivers, that you can try.
  The Deskjet 990c, Deskjet 9800 and the Deskjet 970Cse.

  I don't know if they will work but for Windows 2000.

  1. click on the start menu.
  2. click on Control Panel.

  3. open the Printers folder.

  4. Select Add a printer.

  Follow the steps, select the HP name and the printer in the list.

  Have you TRIED same Dell?  They made your computer, they support the drivers for the hardware / equipment.

  Visit Support from Dell: drivers and downloads website and enter the serial number of your Dell Latitude E6420 and change the operating system to the correct (including the architecture 32-bit or 64-bit) and download appropriate drivers.

  You should get what you need under Windows 7.  Just be sure to install the card mother/mother/chipset drivers, network, communication, etc.  You should have a list of stuff you configured this system with.

  I have a HP G7-2292SD and installed windows 7 64-bit version.

  Everything looks very good and works.

  The only thing that doesn't work is the ethernet drivers.

  When I go to Device Manager and then go to the tab "other devices" is the following.

  As you can see, they are all marked with!
