Move the virtual computer to a virtual switch

I created a second virtual switch on my host ESX 4 and I want to move my VM him but can't seem to understand how it's done.

Can anyone help?

Thank you!

Change the settings for the computer virtual that you want to move. In the Hardware tab, select the network adapter that connects to the new switch. Use the drop-down list for the network connection to select the new label of network.

  • Cannot move the virtual computer to a different location to store data/all

    Hello

I'm physical conversion into virtual machine using the VM converter. When I try this it I get the message error "the file is too big" or something similar. I did some research and realize that my block on the data store size is not large enough. Fine. I know how to format the data store so that it uses a larger block size. However, I need to pass the current VM to another location. I downloaded some of the smallest virtual machine on a local computer, but for most virtual machine I want to plug a USB hard drive in the server VM to move large virtual machine. How can I do this? Is there another way I can move the virtual machine to another location without hassle? I thought to plug a USB hard drive on my local machine and upload it.

    Any suggestions?

    Thank you.

I also encountered this problem, and I solved a couple of different ways.

    1. If you have a UNIX server that is running NFS, you can configure a "dropbox" with 777 rights.  Then create a datastore NFS pointing to it, and then use the clone or clone for model option to copy in the NFS data store.

    2. use the product only settlement converter and convert them in one place.  Wipe the data store, reformat with the largest block size and then convert them back.

    Both works perfectly.

  • Move the virtual computers folder to another computer?

Hi, I would like to move the virtual computers folder of my laptop to a desktop computer much faster with several hard drives and space. This will have a new installation of VMserver 2.

What I do on the new desktop so that the guest VM starts.

On the laptop the VMserver is installed on the 'C' drive with the virtual computers folder on the disk "D". This may or may not be the case on the new office!

    Thank you

    Paul

Should be relatively easy if you follow these steps:

    (1) stop (do not hang in the case has different chiptset between the two hosts) all running VMs

    (2) copy all of the files and folders that are there for the virtual machines that you want your host existing to the new, either to files in the existing data store or create a new data store that points to the folder heierarchy where you copy them on.

    (3) check files hard .vmx and ascii on arrival to ensure that they reflect the paths right on the new machine

    (4) in the web user interface, find the .vmx files and add them to the inventory (see screenshot)

    (5) check in the virtual machine network adapters are you like in case they are different between the two hosts

    (6) start them

  • Expand or move the virtual machine to another partition / hard disk

I tried to expand my 90 GB disk but nothing changes, i.e. the virtual machine is still to 60 GB. I have VMware Fusion 6 (Mac/Windows 10) and my VM is monolithic mode. In this true HD, I even 50 GB free and I can't increase the amount again in an attempt to rectify this problem and I can not to decrease either. I thought to change the location of the virtual machine to another partition/hd with more space, but I don't know how. So I need little help to choose and implements one of the solutions below:

    - or regularise space for the new amount

    - or move the virtual machine (vmdk) to an another partition/HD

    - or to convert monolithic mode to 2 GB split

    What is the best solution?

    Thanks in advance

    It's help me;

Resize a Windows Partition with disk management tool

When you maximize your virtual hard disk, you must also expand partition of your guest operating system to take advantage of the extra space.

Fusion resizes the partition of the guest operating system when you resize the virtual hard disk. If you hold the Option key when you click apply to resize the drive, you can manually resize the Windows partition. For Windows 8, Windows 7 and Windows Vista you can use the operating system's disk management tool to resize a partition.

    Prerequisites

Check that your virtual hard disk is large enough to accept the increase in the size of the partition. See resize a hard disk.

    Procedure

1 right click on computer and select Manage.

    2. double-click on storage.

    3 double-click disk management.

4 in the list, right click on the partition to expand and select Extend the Volume.

5 follow the prompts to resize the partition and click complete and the question of the partition in the disk management pane displays its new size.

    6. close the computer management window

  • How can I move the Virtual Mode of Windows XP hard drive to another drive

How can I move the Virtual Mode of Windows XP hard drive to another drive?

    TIA

    Hi Benyl,

The vhd in programfiles basis cannot be moved or renamed, if done, xp mode stops at the start.

To move the files under c, first to boot xp, instead of save mode the machine virtual., turn it off. (settings to prompt the user for action narrow close). Close the machine virtual., and then choose stop. This will remove the vsv file. Do not delete the .vsv file because it contains data if you have not registered in the virtual machine.

Now, move it "C:\Users\CHRIS.domainname\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows virtual PC\Virtual Machines\Windows XP Mode.vhd" to a desired location.

Parameters of xp mode open, go to the hard drive 1 setting and reposition the hard drive to the new location of the vhd. You should now be able to start the virtual machine.

How to move the virtual machine from one cluster to another cluster

If two Clusters are in the same data center, you could do a 'live' migration or vMotion, if that's the case.   If the virtual machine is turned off, it may be migrated regardless of the data center.

  • How to leave the virtual switch as a physical switch law in esxi 5?

    Hello.

I have Esxi5 installed on a server with 3 physical network card (they are supported and found in Esxi) on that Esxi I installed a virtual-SIN (NexentaStor) machine. The first network adapter is connected to the router, the second network adapter is connected to a PC. DHCP is enabled on the router. Normally on a real switch all connected pc should automatically get an IP address from the server (router), or must be able to communicate when they have a fixed IP address. This does not work on the virtual switch. One of my virtual pc Gets an IP address in a range of false, and I can't connect a real PC at this switch

    2 questions:

    1. Should what settings I use in esxi5 to get virtual pc the good IP address?
    2. Is it possible to connect a real pc directly to the second NIC in my esxi server and use the virtual switch as a true switch? In this way, I can use the Gigabit Nic for a fast and direct connection to the virtual NAS and can connect to the internet via the switch?

    Any help would be appreciated

ESXi does not NAT unlike VMware Server or Workstation/Fusion.

  • How to move the Virtual Machine VMWare Workstation 10 to a completely different computer

I have a laptop that is going to become my 'old' laptop, I bought and am always set up a new computer.

I have a VM THAT evolution created on the 'old' portable using VMWare Workstation 10.  I installed the software VMWare Workstation 10 on the new laptop computer and am ready to move to the existing VM development since the old laptop again to continue the development of software on the virtual machine to the new machine.

I never moved a computer virtual from one computer to another, and I guess that all I have to do is to copy and move the folder and all its content from the old laptop to the new, and then I'll be back in business?

Just make sure it is this simple before doing so.

    Thanks for any input.

It's as simple as that. When you start in the new machine, it should ask if you copied or moved. Answer that you moved it will keep the same MAC address and you will not be able to connect the two copies at the same time. You copied it saying assigns a new MAC and they both can connect, but a Windows machine can ask to reactivate. Seems to me he asked also to reactivate when I copied it for an Intel system AMD system, but it was a long time ago

  • Move the virtual machine to new computer

I copied the file to the virtual machine from one computer to the other. When I go to open it on the new computer, I get a series of errors:

    «Cannot open vmmon...» »

"Failed to initialize the surveillance apparatus..." »

"Could not find a peer valid to connect to.

    Never start the virtual machine.

The old computer: Mac Pro with VMWare Fusion 3.0 10.6.2

The new computer: iMac 10.6.2 with VMWare Fusion 3.0

The new computer used Time Machine to transfer applications and files, except the virtual machines. The ones I copied manually.

    Any suggestions?

These are all the mistakes with the merger itself... Liklely, you just need to reinstall Fusion 3.

I would like to uninstall, reboot, then re-install Fusion 3, see if the problem persists.

If you have shortcuts to the merger or the application itself on your desktop, trash that too...

  • Move the virtual machine Linux from AMD to Intel

Hi, I'm running several CentOS 5.4 and 5.5 virtual machines on an AMD64 based host ESXi 4. I need to replace the AMD ESXi 5 host and move the VM to host Intel based host with an Intel-based.

I did it with a VM test (cold migration), and it seems boot, but I read that I might need to change the kernel for Intel.  Is this necessary?  If so, can someone point me in the right direction on how to do it?  Thank you!

If the test computer worked then no there is no need to replace the core.

  • Assign comments NIC to the virtual switch / Portgroup

    All,

After many search on these forums and the API reference guide, I can not find a solution to the following problem, we are going to have...

We use the Perl SDK to clone existing Virtual Machines and create new virtual switches and exchanges. However, what we can't understand is how to assign a NETWORK adapter on a virtual computer for the new virtual switch / Portgroup.

We would like to be able to create two new virtual machines and a new switch and add the two virtual machines to the portgroup on the switch so that they can communicate. At a later stage, we also want to be able to add a physical NETWORK card from the host to the new switch.

The making through the vSphere Client is quite simple, but we need to automate the task.

No indication on what we should do is appreciated. If it's easier to do using other APIs (such as Web Services), we are open to try this instead...

    Thanks in advance,

    Andy

  • Cannot move the virtual machine to another host

Here's the situation... I am running 3 ESX 4.0 host in a cluster and I upgrade the memory on these hosts.  I put one day and now I want to use vmotion to move a virtual machine to host more memory, so I can then turn off host 2 to add more memory.

When I try to migrate the computer to another virtual host he said "the virtual machine must be powered down for that purpose."

I did it before with success when I first created this group with the HA and DRS settings are enabled.

Now, I can't do this and I don't know what setting or what changed to cause it to not allow me to manually migrate a virtual computer on one host to another.

If I wanted to put an ESX host in "Maintenance Mode" thinking that it will automatically move all VM for 2 other hosts in the cluster is not it either... I get a message saying that ' a host into maintenance mode does not any virtual machine functions... blah... blah... and continues to complete the entry into maintenance mode, all virtual machines must be closed or moved to another host. "  Manual intervention may be required.

Again, I think that if a host is down these VMs would be move... that of the whole point of a cluster but doesn't seem to put in maintenance mode to allow them to go unless I turn off the virtual machine

    Any ideas?

Go is one of the requirements of vMotion. The message after you had corrected the condition, I'm sure would be erased after awhile.

  • ESXi 4 - move the virtual machine to different hardware

Hello everyone, I'm new to VMWare. I was wondering if I say ESXi 4 running on a Dell poweredge 2800 dual processor with 2 VM I could take these virtual machines and move them (the moving process no matter as long as it is possible) a dual processor Dell Poweredge 2950 with different RAID card, RAM, CPU, etc, and ESXi 4 is also installed, etc. it would work?

    Thank you!

Like you, I'm pretty new to VMWare. That being said, I have 2 servers ESXi right now, and I moved the computer virtual from one to the other without problem. I vSphere Essentials, and it was very easy to ' cold migrate "a virtual machine from one server to the other. The host of the virtual machine (white non-liste) origin is simply a HP dc7900 PC with a quad-core processor and 8 GB of RAM. The new host of the virtual machine is a Dell 2850 (non-whtelisted) with 2 processors duo-core and 8 GB RAM. The virtual machine has been the guest of 32-bit OS (Windows XP), while she had no problem. I can't move my Windows Server 2008 VM for your Dell printer, because it does not support 64-bit for the guest operating system (the processors are not compatible VT).

The only thing that will happen is that Windows (XP, in this caes) will have to go through the process of Validation WIndows again, because there are some major hardware changes, as seen by the operating system. Not a big deal, just soemthing to consider. I also had to re - check my Adobe products on this virtual computer, as I did not have the unvalidate on the virtual machine before moving on to the virtual machine. Adobe also thought that it was a whole new PC, so I had to call & make them validate the installation manually.
