  Hey all,.

  In short, my problem is that I have an installation of XP (home or professional) intact windows, but after deleting another partition, the computer does not start to it. My question is what are all the things needed for a computer can be started on the windows partition - even just to the loading screen (which files are needed on the partition, for example boot.ini file, which must be in the MBR, how to mark a partition as bootable; etc.). I can only assume that when my friend had the computer built with partition by a local technology company, they did the D drive partition bootable, but put the Windows files on the C drive. It makes no sense, but I can't find any other reason format another partition that windows would make it unbootable.

  The problem is, now, I have GRUB installed to Fedora. GRUB cannot boot directly on Windows, so he has to begin on an another bootloader that can. I think I have GRUB pointing to the right partition, but I get an error message. So, what I want to know from a point of view of Windows is everything necessary for a successful boot, assuming I can get GRUB to work on his end. What should a healthy Windows boot look - exactly, what should happen?

  The other option, of course, must do a fresh install of Windows on drive C (and hope for no BSOD more). I could put all the files on the partition of Fedora and move them back after the relocation. So what you think - is it worth a try even to save the current installation of Windows?
