  Here are the major issues. NMS you currently have is the snmp network Foglight solution. If you were to buy FMS, you could install the NMSAgent.car that retrieves data of the NMS system, you already have running.

  You want to change the display host name in a file named fglam.config.xml (directory of the example that you can see the path: C:\Quest_Software\Foglight_Agent_Manager_32Bit\state\default\config\fglam.config.xml)

• Converter Standalone server and agent for Windows.

  I need to convert .sv2i Symantec backup images to virtual machines.

  I read that the format is supported only by "Converter Standalone server and agent for Windows.".

  I installed VMware vCenter Converter Standalone Client 4.0.1 but it does not recognize the input format.

  Sorry I'm more the Foglight person in my company I only get to see come to the forums to help out a colleague.

  Yes, we have entirely puppets running for our fglams and Wssf. It was boring, you're linux Debian or company founded? Quest unfortunately does not support standard deb/RPM, perferring an installer of owner. If you need make your own. I am happy to send you a copy of our 64 bit RPM. It's about 120 megs. Just throw it in your rest and you should be good to go. Ideally if you need to build your own to make sure that you can keep up-to-date with the latest agents and pieces of fglam.

  I recommend the staging of your cartridges in advance when you build the RPM. For us, it was worth the extra space in the RPM to compensate for the time that should be a cartridge via the script on the network. Using this method I have cartridge legacy/IC/Apache and customized all in place so I can save some deploy times. It is somewhat important in larger environments due to a problem known in Foglight on the deployment of wagons/creation and activation of agents the time it can take is VERY random.

  In our tests, we had 500 machines archive on a clean server FMS (5.6.4 at the time). Some would take 2-3 minutes to complete, some would take 20! PSO went to dev and they have never been able to understand why delays random when you start the agent script check in the back to the rear. But since you can't count on it fill inside your run time of the puppets you should reduce the time it takes.

  Don't forget that Foglight is not updated with the scale/config friendly management. They store a lot of config data in databases and use IDS in their configuration files that are made by ther FMS. Thus, it can be difficult to handle most things. You end up having to write a lot of execs once. Glad you sent a copy of our manifesto if you wish. I have just to sanatize it. I found it easier to do was run as a 'touch' inside a folder in the % fglam % of indiecate installation directory which have executed elements.

In my first POC run, I forgot about it and after about a month, the FMS ran terrible everything by supporting only 5000 guests. After I cleaned the topology and reset, there great. Since then, I just rule the kickoff to 4 hours to clean up the obsolete data and it has worked great since I did that.

  I get the following in the Foglight Agent Manager error message:

• Unit of ACS and agent remote test

  Problems with unit ACS integration with Active Directory. Have installed the remote agent on a member server and the ACS unit can enumerate Active Directory groups correctly so there is at least some communication happening.

  Looking at newspapers in the remote agent whenever a request for ad groups comes through see you the corresponding journal entries. When a user tries to authenticate that there is no future logs through the remote agent. So maybe it is not sent to remote agent?

  In the authentication failed, connect GBA, the error is unknown user, it shows the correct username + domain name such as the person trying to authenticate.

  Windows Server is configured for a unknown user policy.

  Version of the ACS is 4.1.1.23, Remote Agent is the latest available version.

• Removing servers still have the cluster database and agent status 'pending '.

  We have recently decommissioned 3 servers that were part of a cluster.  Servers and their agents are gone.

  Em, I deleted the nodes in the cluster, removed the hosts and all of its objects.

  A node is gone, two left.

  I have 'cluster of databases' which show the status pending.

  I have 2 principles that show too inaccessible.

  I tried to delete these courses, which all but no luck. Any suggestions?

  After updating the VMTools, do I need to uninstall and reinstall as VMware article on the subject, or can I just do a repair?  I don't have the means at the moment to test it actually so I thought I would ask...

  I did it both ways and I had the best chance to just uninstall the agent and put it back. In my case, I found that doing just a repair sometimes didn't work. Do not know why.

  The documents to see 3.1.2 and 4.x show NO support for 64-bit operating systems.  What is happening with this?

  We use Windows XP 64 bit for ProE a 3D mechanical CAD package.  I am sure that we are not the only company that has the memory required to go from 32 bit to 64 bit.  SPREP is a pig on Vista, Vista x 64 is really a dead-end.  Windows 7 x 64 is perhaps too recent.  It will never support for XP (Server 2003) Windows 64-bit?

  Yes, I'm sure that performance will be fine, otherwise we just buy more servers Dell R905 with 128 GB of ram for engineers. Buy more servers and their distribution to users are cake, replace all machines in a Department every 3 years is a PITA!

  VMware View 4 does support Windows XP x 64 so I guess they also gave support to Vista x 64.  The program will be installed in the Program Files x 86 folder, but it will work unlike some verisons permeable who gave an error message about the software not being not not compatiable with the version of the operating system that you are running.  One thing to note is that the view Portal still does not support x 64 OS, but the stand-alone installation only.  In addition, the VMware View client and the agent with support offline does not install on Windows 7.

  3.5 and vSphere 4 agents still supported in COS or COS will disappear as in ESXi?  If anyone knows any links, I would be happy.

  My question is this - from what I can find on the web, ESX 3.5 U3 does not support the latest integration modules Backup Exec (pre and post backup scripts etc.). So based on this, using Backup Exec 12.5 with VCB Symantec agent is needed giving you the GUI (no longer need to customize scripts for VM backups).

  Can someone please clarify this?

  The Agent gives you a GUI with VCB integration. You should always install VCB, just not the integration kit. You can always do it the "old school" way. The modules BE did never seem to work 100% anyway and you can the House push something pre and post if you do not want to pay for the agent.

  I think that VMware just stopped creating integration because the older kits kits are relatively stable. I tested with esx3.5u3/vc2.5u4 and have no problem. There is no update for VCB, so there is no update for the kits.
