My flash drive is really messed up

I recently discovered a problem on my flash drive. When I plugged in my laptop Windows 7 yesterday, I found that all my folders and files were replaced with shortcuts to the program cmd in C:\Windows\System32. I've used this flash drive on my computer several times before and have not noticed any problems. I want to know what happened and recover my data. I know there is still data on flash drive because I check the use of the space, which said that the same amount of free space is available as before, and the same amount of space is taken. Help, please.

Thanks in advance.

Hello

This looks like a problem with the virus. So I would say cutting to run a virus scan on the flash in safe mode with network and verify that the question. See the article in the link to start in safe mode with network.

Startup options (including safe mode)

http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows7/advanced-startup-options-including-safe-mode

Now, I suggest you use Microsoft safety scanner and look for viruses in your computer.

The Microsoft Security Scanner is a downloadable security tool for free which allows analysis at the application and helps remove viruses, spyware and other malware. It works with your current antivirus software. Here is the link to launch the Microsoft safety scanner.

http://www.Microsoft.com/security/scanner/en-us/default.aspx

Warning: the data files that are infected must be cleaned only by removing the file completely, which means there is a risk of data loss.

Note: the Microsoft Safety Scanner expires 10 days after being downloaded. To restart a scan with the latest definitions of anti-malware, download and run the Microsoft Safety Scanner again.

  • How to get captions to accompany the images when recording on a flash drive?

I SPENT ABOUT 2 WEEKS FOR NAMES OF PEOPLE TO MY GRANDDAUGHTERS OF MARRIAGE AND ADDING TO THE LEGENDS AS WELL AS THE PLACE WAS TAKEN AND THE DATE.

I have JUST COPY AND GLUE THE DE ADOBE PHOTOSHOP ELEMENTS 10 FOR FLASH DRIVE.  HOWEVER, NO SUBTITLE.  How can I DO?

OK, for your family to do, you really want to have the caption written on the photo: for them to 'delete it to print just the image', this legend would have to be registered in a separate layer, and the image stored in a format that takes in charge the layers PSD or TIF.  Then your family members would have to mess around with some sort of software that allow them to hide this layer with the legend before printing and so forth of image editing...

This is what we must try (and you can test the procedure yourself on your computer):

    1. Right-click on a photo in the Organizer, and choose "Add Caption".
    2. Write your caption and click on 'OK '.
    3. Use the file... Export as a new file (s) to export this picture to your USB.
    4. Use Windows Explorer to look at the image on your USB.  At the bottom of the Windows Explorer window, you will see the various pieces of information about the photo, and your caption will be listed as the "title".

Although you must do steps 1 and 2 one-at-a-time for each photo, when you have completed these steps, you can select all of the images and do step 3 for each of them at a time.

  • Strange what's happening with my flash drive

    Hi guys

I really hope you guys can help me. I use a MacBook Air version 10.10.5. I have been successfully using a flashdrive (PNY attached) with no problems. Now, all of a sudden, when I tried to save a document, he said that I could not save it (automatic backup). He listens to me. Even when I tried to save it in another area of the flash player, it would still not save. I wanted to know how much storage is on the flash drive, and here's what he says: "free 995,2 MB 442 KB." This means that I still have KB 553,2 left, right? -What are my calculations correct? So why is this, just below the storage space, it says something COMPLETELY DIFFERENT! He demonstrated a blue area marked 'Other' who says I used 985,3 MB and I used 9. 5 MB in photos. In other words, there is no disk space. I have almost nothing on this flash drive. What in the world is happening? Can someone help me please?

    Rae

More brightly have a small switch on the side that allows you to lock the drive. Check the padlock sign.

No, your math says you have 0.442 free MB of total 995,2 MB on the drive which is essentially nothing for free.  You have something else taking up the 994. something MB of the drive.

We must also not forget to emtpty trash when flash drives are attached. They have their own waste.

  • How to boot from a USB - Portege R500 flash drive

    Hello

I have a Portege R500 running Windows XP, presented about 2 years ago and recently contracted a virus that has infected some of the startup files as the minute I connect it disconnects again, even in SafeMode! The quickest way I can think sorting is to reformat with the XP Recovery disk and reinstall windows.

Problem! The CD/DVD drive on the computer laptop stopped working earlier, tried almost everything in the thread on this site, but had no luck.

So my plan was to boot from a USB flash drive and do it this way. However in the boot parameters I only have the options of HARD drive / floppy drive / CD-ROM / LAN, none of them work. Does anyone know how to boot from USB flash drives?

Any help would be really appreciated

    Hello

As far as I know, it should be possible to boot from USB FDD

I don't know if you would be able to boot from a USB flash drive, but it of certainly worth a try m

Generally, you can try to press the F12 key when the laptop is turned on.
A start menu should appear on the screen, then you should see all bootable devices.

PS: as far as I know the USB startup was available in ToshibaHWSetup (tool of Toshiba which changes the settings of the BIOS under windows OS.) So I guess boot from USB must be possible.

At first, I thought maybe USB 3.0 Port on my router wasn't working at all, but it recognizes my SanDisk 16 GB Cruzer USB 2.0 Flash Drive that is also formatted FAT 32. I have a Compaq Presario CQ56-115dx and a HP 16 GB flash drive that will not work with the computer. The flash player works with my HP Pavilion laptop but not with the Compaq. I have a 4 gb HP flash drive that works with the computer very well, as well as some SanDisk ones. I don't think it's USB drivers because my other flash drives work with the computer very well. I really need to use the flash drive to back up information from the Compaq computer, so any help would be appreciated.

    Hi the BimmerGuy,

Welcome to the Forums of HP Support!

It is strange that the flash drive working in a pc and not another. You mentioned a 4 GB drive has worked in your laptop and a few others, but not the 16 GB one.

What were the capabilities of other flash drives that worked in your laptop?

Have you tried the 16 GB drive in other ports on this computer?

You have other problems with the USB ports on this computer?

I t would be useful to have the OS version. Please read the following if you need help to find out who.
Is the Version of Windows on my computer 32-bit or 64-bit?

Despite what you mentioned on the other drives to work, he is never a bad idea to update the drivers. It is always possible that a strange compatibility issue. It could be something similar to the issue of standards when dealing with SD cards, although I have not found any information for flash drives. That's what I am referring on the SD devices. • Laptop HP 17 p100: how the usb flash drive big that I have to create a system of 10 Windows Recovery?

How the big usb flash drive do I need to create a system of 10 Windows Recovery?

    Yes

    Hello;

Let me welcome you on the HP forums!

There is really no way accurately guess in advance, with one of the reasons being that the options are available when you do this.  An option creates a recovery drive minimum with what is needed to repair the operating system.  Another option creates an image that is able to completely restore the operating system and its partition.  Thus, the size can vary from 4 GB to the size of the partition to the OS.

Myself, I found as build-in recovery to be unreliable, especially those of Ms.  So instead, I use a third-party imaging/restoration solution known as Macrium Reflect.

What I recommend is the following:
    (1) download and install Macrium reflect (MR)
    (2) run M. and choose the option: "Create an image of the partition (s) required to backup and restore Windows" to write a full backup to an external drive or USB key
    (3) use the option to create a CD or a USB startup key

My experience is that SIR, when you use the option of Compression high, typically allows to compress the image file recorded at about 50% of the space USED in the OS partition.  This means that if you have a 40GB and 80GB OS partition is used, MR must only about 20 GB to store the image file.

I use all the time and it usually takes less than 10 minutes to make the backup of the image and at the same time or less do a restore.  In addition, MR has the ability to add a recovery Boot Menu entry.  This then allows you to boot into Windows re, and then you can use it to do a restore - when you cannot start Windows!

NOW, you have the means to restore a full system that works for the external hard drive or USB key in a few minutes.

    Good luck

I'm a volunteer and I do not work for, or represent, HP.

  • Recovery Manager HP does not recognize my flash drive!

My computer is HP Pavilion p6 desktop computer - 2317c, running windows 8.

I am trying to create a recovery media and have a 32 facet of Cruzer Sandisk of Go that I intended to use for this. Unfortunately, Recovery manager does not recognize the flash drive... it never appears in the menu at all. The drive appears when I click on the computer icon in the section files, with no problems at all, as you can see.

I have not created a game of recovery media, and it shows not enough space error, he just lets it appear at all!

What can I do to fix this? I really want to do a recovery set, to prepare for a visit to the demon responsible for foulups visit.

    Hi Savvy2,

SanDisk has changed the firmware in their most recent products so that the USB appears as a local drive and not as a removal media device. Keys older HP Recovery Manager on this information, and that's why the HP Recovery Manager is not recognized your USB key.  Review of the information that has been compiled by Erico below.

  • You are looking for a SIMPLE, EASY to USE, USB flash drive password protection

    Hello everyone,

I scoured the Internet looking for a SIMPLE, EASY to USE, method of Word to PASS-PROTECT my flash drives TOGETHER.  I don't mean something that protects just individual files & folders (such as MS Word, Excel & can do).  Or I'm looking for a program that involves having to read page after page of instructions on how to ENCRYPT the drive.  ENCRYPTION is a topic that is really beyond my ability to understand.  I'm sorry.

Programs like Truecrypt, Axcrypt, etc. are simply much too complicated for me to understand... a lot less!

My question: are there flash drives available (size 8-16 GB preferably) who have a means of securing the disk with a password?

The USB key remains in my USB port at ALL times!  I have no other computers here and live alone, so that no one else could access the flash player (or computer).  Otherwise, I would be willing to consider a VERY SIMPLE, EASY to UNDERSTAND AND USE application, either free or something that does not cost me dearly.  (I subsist on a limited monthly disability income).

Thank you for your time and any recommendations!

It seems that the solution for you would be to purchase a secure Flash drive.   Security is built-in and it asks for your password when you insert your disc into the computer.   Can't get much simpler than that.  They are a little more expensive, but you pay more for practical reasons.   See the following article:
    'USB Flash Drive Security '.
To find one, just Google for "Secure USB flash drive", there are a lot of them out there.

If you have a non-secure flash drive and do not want to replace, then your easiest option would be a program like Truecrypt which you already have reduced as being too complicated.  Don't let the word"encryption" you scared - it all comes down to "enter a password to access".»  Once established, however, it is almost as simple as only to enter a password so if you can find a computer or a local high school computer nerd literate member of the family who would volunteer to set up for you, then it wouldn't be that hard.
