    flustered2,

You recently reinstall the operating system? If so, have you installed the drivers in the order?
How to download and install drivers in the correct order

First run delete print jobs to remove all print jobs stuck in the queue.

    Unplug the printer.

Download and run the patch (cleaning printer utility) until it prompts you to restart your computer.

    Restart your computer.

Now you can install the printer using the Dell Printer 924 disc.

Link to the patch/drivers(if needed) is to...

Don't forget the programs anti-virus and firewall will block communications.

    Also try this tweak...

Go into Device Manager (right click on my computer, left click Properties, material of the left click, left click Device Manager)

Go to the section USB controller, and then click the plus sign +.

Go to each USB hub root and right-click on it, on the left, click Properties, on the left, click power management. Uncheck the allow the computer to turn off this device to save power.

    Restart your computer.

  • My Lexmark printer stopped working and the error message says "printer cannot communicate with the computer" (from "twisted into the USB pins?).

When my printer stopped working because of error messages about "printer cannot communicate with the computer" (from "twisted into the USB pins?), I tried to change to 2nd USB port without success. I tried a new cable; that did not help.

Then I uninstalled and reinstalled my Lexmark printer and changed the error message. Now, the printer does not work because "the USB device is not recognized."

I tried to update the chips; Use 1 USB port; and using the old cable, all this without success. I checked the connections of the cable to the printer and the PC and turn on the printer and goes off; I'm out of ideas. Any other suggestions?

    Mike,

You can try to disable the ToolTips of printers. If the printer is wireless, try channel 11 in your wireless router. You can also try to remove computers printer scan list and then restart the computer and see if it prints.

Start, Control Panel, devices and printer, your printer, printing preferences, advanced, more control options. Tell him to never show. The problem with this setting is that you can not tell if you are weak of ink, printer jams, etc..

I SEE NO REFERENCE TO THESE FILES IN THE WINDOWS FIREWALL AND TO THIS DAY THE ONLY WAY AROUND THIS PROBLEM IS TO REMOVE THE PRINTER AND REINSTALL, BUT IT WORKS FOR A SHORT PERIOD. I USED (BY REMOTE CONTROL) THE STATION OF SOLUTION DELL THREE TIMES BUT EVEN THEY EVENTUALLY REMOVE ALL AND REINSTALL THE PRINTER.

SOMEONE HAS AN IDEA HOW THESE FILES CAN BE UNLOCKED?

I suggest to disable CAPS LOCK key since your message is all in the capital and difficult to read. Have you tried to add to the exception in the Windows Firewall? Try also to change your network connection for work or at home instead of public. Also make sure you installed the latest version of the driver and are compatible. Also try to run the tool:

  • Trouble Shooting basic steps if the printer cannot communicate with the computer.

Here are the steps to follow if your printer has problems to connect to a computer for basic troubleshooting.

    USB:

    1. Make sure that the USB cable is connected sucurely at both ends.
    2. Make sure that the USB cable is connected directly to your computer.  If you have a USB hub between the printer and the computer, it can cause communication problems.
    3. Make sure that your do not plug the USB key into a USB 3.0 port.  HP printers do not work with USB 3.0 connections and can prevent the computer to see the printer.
    4. Make sure that the USB cable is less than 6 ft.  No more 6 ' can generate signals lose who will cause problems of miscommunication.
    5. Have a backup USB cable.  The truth is USB cables are good markets for be sold at low prices.  Sometimes they last for years without any problem.  Sometimes they are bad when buy you them.  It's really just a matter of chance.  The chances of getting a bad store fees are quite low, but it happens and it never hurts to prepare.

    Wireless and Ethernet:

    1. Follow all the steps in this document.  Do step in the document will ensure that your printer on the network and has a stable connection.  The only thing to change is under the fifth step.  Under the fifth step, it tells you how to set DNS information on your printer.  It tells you to use the IP of your router.  Do not.  Use the public DNS to Google for favorite 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 for the alternate.  The reason why I use Google DNS is twofold.  (1) HP printers seem to connect better with Google DNS.  (2) If your printer has web services, web services have a better chance to connect with Google DNS.
    2. If your anti-virus software has a firewall, disable it.  Anti-virus firewall can block network communication between devices on the same network, and disabling the firewall may allow communication to flow normally.  If the firewall is the problem, there are ports you need to open once you activate the firewall again.  These ports will be listed at the end of this post.

These are the basic things that you can do if you think you have problems with the printer and computer to communicate with one another.

  • Printer/scanner and CD/DVD drive do not communicate with my computer.

My printer/scanner and CD/DVD drive do not communicate with the computer.  A message reads: command line compiler Visual c# has stopped working. All the drivers for my devices are updated and current. Exclamation points are noted in these devices in Device Manager. This seems to be a registry or a motherboard problem. While in the Device Manager, I clicked and uninstalled devices and then restarted the computer, hoping that the pilots would be automatically reinstalled correctly. It did not work, and nothing has changed. I've never had a problem like this before. Any suggestions?

Problem has been resolved by removing the UpperFilters registry key.  Both the old and new readers are working properly. Thanks for the help and time.
