My Satellite L40 - 18W freezes

Three months back I bought a brand-new 18W Saudi Toshiba L40 and brought it to Ethiopia. For a month he was working well.
But for the last two months it freezes after startup in approximately 5 to 4 minutes.

I noticed that always when I start the computer freezes completely in 5 minutes about then after restarting with button walk / stop it freezes
in time shorter than previous startup and restarted if again freezes while loading windows. Then after even windows won't load,
and just the hard drive startup sound is heard only black appears on the screen.

Is what I found to be awkward in the past months, the computer has worked without freezing for a week and I was happy on the assumption that the
problem solved itself, but then he continued to freeze.

Installed OS is XP - SP2, and main loaded applications MS office, Adobe Photo shop 8 and Adobe Illustrator 8. Already installed
software antivirus was NOD32, but I changed my McAfee 8.5I. I used wireless internet only twice and I can say that there never
been used.

I am really disappointed and please help me what I can do to solve the problem.

Thank you
Clear

Hello

Have you noticed a higher internal temperature?
I guess that it of very hot in Ethiopia, I wonder not if the laptop would freeze due to a higher temperature.

The fact is that if the cooling modules don't cool parts like the CPU, GPU or RAM modules correctly these symptoms could arrive.

First of all, I would recommend checking the vents if they are not clogged with dust and debris. It could clean with a jet of compressed air.

My laptop froze because the higher temperature, internal affected memory modules RAM and OS hung after about 5-6 minutes of use.

However, you can also check if memory modules are not affected. If you have 2 modules installed, you could remove a module and might try to run the note with a memory module. In this case, you can check if one of the modules is malfunctioning.

Sorry I can't provide an exactly the answer to your question, but as see you it s really hard to say what's wrong exactly investigation is necessary

  • LAN and WLan doesn't work on Satellite L40 - 18W

    Hi all

I have TOSHIBA Satellite L40 - 18W and my 1 - wireless problem not knitting & wired lan does not work.
I download driver and everything is ok, but it doesn't work (when I search by wireless I can't find any network.) My router works fine)

    Please help me

    Hello

It is difficult to understand what you mean by not working do not.
    Does that mean exactly?
You are not able to connect to the internet or what?

Usually, if the wireless network card and LAN card have been properly recognized in Device Manager, then the drivers are working properly and the problem could be related to the router configuration bad or maybe some active firewall, etc.

First I recommend that you check the router settings. Check if the router has been configured with the right data from ISP and if all other options have been properly set.

The laptop supports the Realtek Wlan and LAN card.
Check if the wireless card uses the same standard WLan as the WLan router and if the right encryption has been used too.

I bought before Toshiba Satellite L40 - 18W notebook 4 months ago, it was working fine until yesterday.

LED is on, I have tried troubleshooting possible but no result at all.

    Hello

You can try the FF steps to isolate the problem:

    (1) unplug the adapter from the network

    (2) removing the battery

    3) try the laptop with just the AC adapter power.

If the same problem occur then its your call, you can call technical support so that they can give you options for repair, another option is you can also locate the repair center nearest toshiba, you can just go to this site to see if you have one in your area--> [ASP Locator | http://pcrepair.toshiba.com]

  • Satellite L40 - 18W - Touchpad does not work

    Hey guys...

I have Toshiba Satellite L40 - 18W, bought in the Middle East, and unfortunately its touchpad does not work... I checked and double checked all the possible places, so anything that is disabled or misconfigured but found nothing.

As there are quite a few errors in the operating system I formatted my hard drive and install WXP Prof, installed all the drivers, but the touchpad is not always works. I'm very confused as before and after formatting the pointer moves a little when I use the touch pad at the beginning of the UPA start? ¦

    Help, please...

The best audit is to install the operating system with the original Toshiba recovery image and test it with the factory settings. In this case touchpad should work fine. Otherwise, contact the service and leave check your laptop.

Sorry, but I don't see another solution for you.

  • Satellite L40 - 17R - freezes when installing Vista

First of all I want to say hi

I have some problems with the installation of Windows Vista. I know I have to make an adjustment to my HDD on the SATA BIOS or something like that.
But my BIOS doesn't have something about that.
Not even 1 bit of info

I also tried with an update of the BIOS for win XP (I m now using XP) and the BIOS is the same.

When I try to install Vista it works up to the level "Complete Installation" where this green line of installation of rest status freeze.
Please give me some advice on this subject.
    Thank you, very much

    Hello

You try to install Windows Vista with the Toshiba recovery disc or disc of Microsoft?
If you use the Microsoft disc, you integrated SATA drivers?

The SATA drivers, you can find on the site called Toshiba Intel Storage Manager.
You need only these drivers if you are using the Microsoft disk.

In the BIOS, you can change between AHCI and compatible mode. AHCI mode is a bit faster, but that's why you need the SATA drivers.

If you have more questions just to seek out here in the forum. There are already a lot of discussions about this, and this procedure returns on every laptop.

    Welcome them

  • Satellite L40 - 18W - how to install XP on Vista

Please someone explain to me step by step procedure to install XP over Vista.
When I try to install the XP it shows error the hard drive cannot be detected.

    Please help me...

    Hello

In this case, I can only say that it sometimes useful to search the forum to find threads with the same question here. What about that XP doesn t detect a HARD drive, you will find hundreds of son or more.

Anyway, the magic word is Intel Storage Manager. On all laptop computers with SATA HDD, you need SATA drivers that need to be integrated during the installation.
Just read these step by step instructions: http://aps2.toshiba-tro.de/kb0/HTD9401AN0000R01.htm

  • Several problems with Satellite L40 - 18W

My Dungeon movies on jump images and sound.
    1. this happens usually when I use Kmplayer, when I use VLC, it's fine, but sometimes even with VLC the problem remains.
The film works very well on an Acer Aspire 4315 with even the Kmplayer.
    It's driving me crazy!
I tested the video memory, motherboard, CPU, Ram and so on. Everything is fine! Just peachy!
I even had a BIOS update 3 days ago the same problem!
I use XP SP 2 uualy, now I use Win7, the problem is the same! I just can't understand it!

    2. two weeks the Toshiba would ' t boot, he keept restarting. When I tried to do a clean install, this allowed me to run the installer until the installation XP partion apeared. It didn't matter what I would press on install, delete, Format, etc. The result was the same, he kept always restarted at this point.
I managed to locate the problem, the second location of the ram, but the RAM was ok. But eveytime that slot ocupied, kept restarting the laptop.
With just a RAM, in the first place, the laptop was fine.
Eventualy I did a BIOS update, and it seems it's ok. But still... what the hell?

3 and the temperature of the Cpu on the "idle" mode is another about 70 every time. And no there is no dust in the cooling module, yes the fan works and yes I use event buffer external coolig. What is the right temperature? Normal?

    # Kmplayer is unknown to me and I use VLC or Windows media player. I put t know what films you watch (DVD file or avi) and why this happens. It is not easy to discuss the problems that sometimes occur. Maybe an application runs in the background and when HARD drive is busy with something like this can happen.
    # More important, is that everything is OK now. :)
    # The CPU temperature is certainly not politically risky or critical. You can try to exchange the thermal grease, but be careful with this. Is Toshiba using own fat and you need to know how much should be placed here (usually 0.25 ml). I hope you know what you're doing.

  • The satellite L40 BIOS message

    Hello

I have a pretty annoying problem with my new laptop (Satellite L40 18W - model PSL4CE). Whenever I boot, I get

    > {Quote: title = / var/log/syslog :} {quote}}
    > PCI: BIOS Bug: e0000000 MCFG area isn't just E820

Same with BIOS 1.8 and 1.9 versions of kernel 2.6.24.2 and 2.6.25

Any way to solve this problem?

    Thank you!

If I understand correctly you have a PSL4CE model and that you also use the Vista. Am I wrong?

Did you choose the good BIOS series Sam L40 PSL4CE tree?

How have you tried to perform the update?

I see that you posted this in the field of Linux so perhaps you use Linux on your laptop?

Please note; the update of the BIOS can be performed only from the Microsoft System!

  • Satellite L40 - strange problem with battery LED indicator

I have Satellite L40 - 18w and I have a problem. When the battery is low or that he is in charge of the led is orange, but when it is fully charged there is no led indicator. Even if I turn it on, there is no light and if I check the power connection options AC adapter is recognized. Operating system is Windows XP PRO SP2. I tried to find the Toshiba Power Saver, but it seems that he can't stand L40.

Would it be a hardware or a software problem?
Thank you in advance for your help!

  • Satellite L40-139 does not start

    ? 19/02/2014 18:41 - edited? 19/02/2014-18:45

Hello, I have a problem with the SATELLITE L40-139

the thing is when I press the power button / stop, hard drive led will begin to Flash, CD-ROM led is lit and the screen is black. I noticed that advise in the CD-ROM makes a sound ICT in the same way the hdd led flashes (when it flashes I hear a tick form CD, yes I unfolded any computer laptop).

I can only say that I have connected my PC HARD drive and it's working., good fan is not working too, but I think it will start, after some time (as he always did)

Notebook crash circumstances are now saying: that a year ago, he fell from 1 inch (such height ;]) I saw that the ribbon cable connecting the touchpad to the mohterboard was broken and my diidn can't start computer, I thought that there's a problem, but I forgot and left the laptop for more than 9 months (with hard disassebled and battery and cd-rom drive) and then I decided to try to turn it on.
And viola! It works it boots etc.

After a month of being happy, I'm drunk I couldn't sit on the Chair and I decided to sleep with my laptop on the bed, I lied right down and put the laptop on my belly and it crashed (screen freezes) so I decided to reboot, but it does not start.

Here is a video with what I get when turning the power on it: [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jC0pGBBVwJk] (not Fortunately my phone fell in the mud and shifts when I record videos)

Some people suggest I should connect an external display to see if theres no picture but the result is always the same. (Screen not even fuels not on)

Maybe someone could help me fix without sending it to the customer service.

    See you soon.

On this virtual path, it is not easy to say what the problem is here. Of course, you can try to do some tests and try to make some conclusions which may be wrong. After his last stop somewhere I think that there is big problem with graphics card. Of course I can't say it for sure.

Diagnosis just exact mainboard can offer answers. I m afraid mainboard is dead and must be exchanged.
