• Crazy computer - starts by itself at night after I stopped it

  Last week, I have a new Satellite L555 - 11L. It works well except that if I left the screen open, the pc starts in itself 08:20 every morning.

  I checked the BIOS settings, but I did not see anything like a regular upward trail.
  Wake on LAN is disabled, the alarm on the keyboard is also disabled. I don't think it's a thing of windows 7.

  I just wanted to clear the confusion.
  Marilyn's response suggests to remove WMC start-up, that the OP has not mentioned in their first post. Given that the OP has not returned more than 7 days, it is assumed the following steps solved the problem and is then marked as answer.
  Since many of you have tried these steps and they did not help, I've unmarked at the station.
  Regarding a solution, many of you are looking for a way to simply disable Windows Media Center entirely. I must point out that if you are using Windows 7 you can quickly and easily disable this feature using 'Windows turn features on or off'. But being given that most (if not all) of you are using Vista, I'm going to press.
  There are many ways to skin this cat:
  Has. Disable the Services Windows Media Center
  1. Click Start, type services.msc and pressenter
  2. Find Windows Media Center Extender Service and double click it
  3. On the general tab, change the Startup Type to disabled , and then click OK to close this window
  4. Repeat steps 2 and 3 for the Windows Media Center Receiver Service,Windows Media Center Scheduler Service , andWindows Media Center Service Launcher
  5. Close the window Services and reboot
  B. Disable Windows Media Center via Group Policy (Note: is not an option for users of Windows Vista Edition Home Premium)
  1. Click Start, type gpedit.msc , and then press enter
  2. Under Computer Configuration, navigate to Administrative Templates > Windows components > Windows Media Center
  3. In the right pane, double-click the policy (do not allow Windows Media Center to run)
  4. Select active (sounds weird but this will indeed prevent WMC to run), and then clickOKto close this window
  5. Close the local Group Policy Editor , and then restart
  C. Disable Windows Media Center via the registry
  1. Click Start, type regedit and press enter
  2. Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE > SOFTWARE > policies > Microsoft
  3. Right click on Microsoft and choose new >key
  4. Name the WindowsMediaCenter key, and then press enter
  5. Right click on the key that you just created and choose new > DWORD (32-bit) Value
  6. Name the MediaCenter DWORD, and then press enter two times
  7. Change the value to hexadecimal 1 and press OK
  8. Close the registry editor and then restart
  You really need to perform one of the patches above for Windows Media Center must be disabled.

  Check your BIOS settings, looks like you have a setting for it to wake up at a specific time.

• Suspension PC starts by itself

  Greetings:

  I have two PC HP Pavilion HPE h8 - 1360t Win7 Pro on Core i7-3770 64-bit CPU, 16 GB of memory, running in a local network.  When I sleep/suspend one, he remains suspended until I me re - wake up, as it should.  But the second PC will not be suspended if the first PC is running.

  If the first PC hangs when I suspend the other, then the other remains suspended, but sometimes comes back to the top itself late at night.  Given that the two machines is on for backups scheduled at 3:00 and then suspended again after the backups are made, I suspect that the second machine wakes up when the first spear his backup machine, is suspended as required by the backup software, and then re-awakening because the first machine is still running.

  More:

  If I disconnect the cable CAT5 to the second PC, then he won't return to the top after having been suspended, even if the first machine is running.

  After re - connect the second PC to the LAN, if I disconnect the Cat 5 of the first machine during its operation and then to suspend the second machine, he remains suspended.  If I then plug the Cat 5 in the first machine, pretty soon the second machine returns upwards!

  Obviously, something in the first machine interacts with the second machine, causing it to come to suspend when the two computers are connected to the local network and executes the first machine.

  Is there a way I can disable the induced LAN wake-up in the second machine?  I still need the widgets to awaken on the scripted events, but how do I do it waterproof at LAN events in case of suspension?

  I am answering my own post, since no one else has, so far!

  Bottom line - which, according to me, I need is a way to logout of software or power down the NETWORK card in my PC when the system goes into standby/sleep mode.  Is there a registry setting that would do this?  I think not all settings in the user of Windows 7 interface that would let me do.

  I solved this problem.  It turns out all I had to do was open the control panel > system > Device Manager > network adapters, and then right-click on the Ethernet controller, click Properties > power management and uncheck the box "allow this device to wake the computer".

• Satellite A300-15V: keyboard does not work after that Win7 has started

  I just installed windows 7 64 bit on my A300-15V and some strange problems:

  When I boot up, the keyboard and the touchpad works until I log in, as soon as the desktop appears my keyboard and trackpad stopped working.
  If I restart the laptop everything seems again works fine.

  Sometimes in the middle of working on something, the laptop and the trackpad will stop working completely and I have to restart the laptop to operate again.

  I installed the chipset drivers listed under my OS, but that has not solved the problem.

  Can someone point me in the right direction?

  Hmm, please set the BIOS to default settings!

  You can enter the BIOS by pressing F2 while the laptop starts.

  You also need to install the driver for the touchpad, as far as I know there are two drivers; Synaptics and Alps. The two must be installed.

  Please check also if the touchpad is not disabled by pressing FN + F9 key combination!

  When I Hibernate my Satellite U500 and close the lid before the hybernation is finished, the laptop turns on automatically when I open again the cover. It's very embarrassing because the lid opens some in my purse and then, after a few hours, I discover that battery is zero and the laptop does not start.

  To avoid this behavior, wait until the laptop is completely put into hibernation and only then close the cover.

  I use Satellite U500 18 with Windows 7.

  I mean that it takes only a few seconds until the laptop is in sleep mode.

  What you can do is to check the Windows power management settings. Here you can define, the laptop into hibernation if you close the lid.

  I have a problem with a C200 all-in-One (my mother-in-law). Allways Windows 7 starts in VGASave (vga driver regular) mode, but the NVIDIA ION drivers are correctly installed. Device Manager displays the NVIDIA graphics card and drivers installed. It says device is fully functional. I tried several different versions of the NVIDIA driver. The one on the CD drivers, two different from the Lenovo Web site, one that comes with the last windows update and later from NVIDIA. Always the same.

  I googled for hours, but found no resolution. Is it possible that the vga driver is set somewhere in the system to be still used, even if the other drivers of work are present (force vga)? This could be a hardware problem? Any other ideas?

  Now, I solved the problem. I learned on the net that the C200 all-in-One does not use the NVIDEA graphics card normally. If the integrated Intel graphics card was the problem. The new Intel driver that came with the last Windows Update does not work with the C200. Simply, I installed an earlier version of the Intel driver from lenovo site. Windows now runs the Intel driver correctly. But I have not so far if you never use the NVIDEA, and if it works then.

  I suggest to perform the clean boot on your computer and check.

  From your computer by using a minimal set of drivers and startup programs so that you can determine if a background program is interfering with your game or program. This type of boot is known as a "clean boot".

  To perform a clean boot on a computer, follow these steps.
   
  1. click on start, type msconfig in the search box and press ENTER.
    
  If you are prompted for an administrator password or a confirmation, type the password, or click on continue.
   
  2. in the general tab, click Selective startup.
  3. under Selective startup, clear the check box load startup items.
  4. click on the Services tab, select the hide all Microsoft Services check box, and then click Disable all.
  5. click on OK.
  6. When you are prompted, click on restart.
  7. after the computer starts, check if the problem is resolved.

  Photoshop has just been randomly open when I'm doing other things on my computer. This isn't a touch screen or a laptop, it is not a "bump" inadvertently by my thumb or something like that. No idea why, or how to stop it?

  Please answer the following questions, the better you can:

  What is your system brand and model?

  If you have a Dell computer, what is the Service tag number?

  What is your Windows Version and the Service Pack?

  Microsoft hired Support Engineer "experts" like to point you in the direction of a task being the culprit, to wake up every day, but I think it's unlikely since that would take some additional effort and configuration required to make it work, but you can of course check if you want.

  Anyone who thinks that this is perhaps a task scheduled, just try to put in place a scheduled task on your own system to wake up when it is stopped and you'll see what I mean, so tell us how that works for you.  Can operate you?

  It is more likely that your system of brand not specified and the model with unspecified of operating system and Service Pack receives a "magic packet" (ISP) Internet Service provider.  Often at or around midnight or in the early hours of the morning.

  This means that even if the system is off, some systems have a feature that will wake them up when there is some activity on their Internet connection - even if the computer is off (which is normal and can be useful).

  Sometimes this can be referenced to as the receipt of a "magic packet", that's just what the system needs to see the Internet connection to wake.  Often these things seem to happen shortly after midnight when providing your Internet (FSI) service may send these magic packets.

  More on LAN (WoL) support is sometimes implemented in the motherboard of the computer.  Motherboards more modern with a built-in Ethernet controller supports WoL you must find this option/feature and turn it off.

  To test the theory of WoL, the next time that you turn off your computer for the day, physically disconnect the Internet connection on the computer and wait (as long as you think it takes to convince you) and see if the system turns on automatically or not when the cable is unplugged at the time where you suspect - after waiting longer than it usually takes to get it to run itself (which can be a night or more).  That means that you'll maybe wait a day or two to test this idea.

  There might be a setting in the BIOS of your system to turn on/off this feature or your network card, but since we don't know anything about your system, it's just a guess.  You can look around in your system BIOS and see if you can spot this feature and turn it off, save the settings and see what things look like.

  You can visit the web site of manufacturers for your unspecified system brand and model to see how to disable this feature.

  It could also be a setting to disable in your network interface card properties to not allow the system to start or come out of hibernation or standby on a signal of the device or router.  You can look in the Device Manager and the properties of your device for these settings and disable these features.

  You are looking for a "Power management" tab or something like this:

  

  In Manager of devices, network card, for a controller NVIDIA network under properties, advanced settings called "Wake on Magic Packet" and "Wake on model Match" there which can be disabled.

  On my motherboard in the system, the BIOS under power management settings is a section called 'Wake Up event Setup' and in terms which are the different ways you can configure the system to wake up from some events.  Under this article are things like the keyboard, the mouse and the other is "Summary by Onboard LAN" which if I activate the correct "magic packet" and which comes in the built in Ethernet, my system connection would start by itself.

  Try not to think that it is a thing of Windows, you will need to change - it's more of a physical thing that has to do with your motherboard or network interface and how you connect to the Internet.

  Sometimes you can do it from Windows via the properties of the network adapter in the device, under the tab 'Advanced' or 'Power Management' Manager.  You may need to look around for it.

  Look for things like 'allow this device to wake the computer from sleep mode' or "Allow only the management stations to wake this computer" and make adjustments to turn off and disable these features.

  Don't forget to restart after each adjustment and I'd like to go back and check the settings again to make sure they "stick".
