  If you click the cd icon in wmp and select find album info"in the drop-down list box, it should implement the alternative versions (if it is a widely available drive) or you should be able to narrow down the search yourself.

  RIP error in Windows Vista Media Player

  Like others on this list, I can't rip cd after downloading Service Pack 2. After 20% of the first song is torn all the entries go in error without any indication of which is the mistake. I tried to erase the files and restart as indicated, but this does nothing to solve the problem. My son, who is a programmer, also spent 2 hours on the problem using various forums, tried all mentioned and was still unable to solve the problem.

  In WMP, please click the error next to one of the tracks, and select Error Details . What is the full text of the error message?

  If you use WMP to simply play the CD, that always works?

  You can try to reset the library. Note firstly reset the library will make you lose all play counts and ratings too. Then, follow these steps:

  -Restart the PC.
  -Click Start, type services.msc in the search field and press ENTER. In Services, locate the Windows Media Player Network Sharing Service . If its status is started , double-click the service, and then click stop .
  -Click Start, type %LOCALAPPDATA%\Microsoft in the search field and press ENTER. This folder opens in Windows Explorer.
  -In this folder, rename the folder Media Player as Old Media Player . If you do not see the folder, then it is probably hidden. Set Explorer to view the hidden files and folders and show protected system files.
  -Launch WMP, your library will have been reset and will be rebuilt. Check if the problem persists. Tim Baets

• Cannot rip CDs or change the rip settings

  I can't "rip CD" or change the settings of "rip".  When I try to copy a CD I hit the rip button and I get the error message "CAN'T RIP ONE or MORE SONGS on this CD".  I tried several cd.  When I try to change the RIP SETTINGS I get the error message 'THE SETTING for RIPPING MUSIC COULD NOT BE APPLIED'.  I tried to uninstall and reinstall WMP12 but when I put the APPWIZ. CPL is not listed.  I don't know what else to do.  Please help me as soon as possible, I need to update my IPOD.

  In WMP library, click organize , and then select manage libraries - music . What places are? If there is no available location, remove them and also make sure that a default save location is set. Do the same for the other libraries (videos, pictures, and Recorded TV).

  If this does not help, open Windows Explorer, right-click the music library, select Properties and click on restore by default . After that, make sure that a backup location is defined (as indicated by a check mark).

  Yesterday, he received some kind of update when I tried to use a digital copy of DVD (WB legitimate, nothing fishy) and the program said I needed to update WMP. That everything worked well. Now, the next day I want newly purchased rip CD, and it gets an error not described on each track, when I try to rip or play.   Here are a few things to try to get these issues fixed:
  During playback of a CD, the sound may Crackle or the music jumps. To correct this problem, make sure that "Enable error checking" has been enabled in the options of the media player. If you continue to experience problems when playing, this could mean that the CD is damaged.
