Mysterious small partition on Satellite A100-647

Hello

Recently when I decided to create the new partition on my drive, I realized that I have already two partitions, a main one I used normally and a small (about 200 MB).

I have TOSHIBA A100-647. I could delete this partition? Is it normal to have this partition on my laptop? Where are the fingers of my drive with the tips of the fingers is stored?
Perhaps on this drive?

I look forward to your response

Peter

First of all, it is always useful to read s operating manuals. You will find information that Express Media Player is preinstalled on your laptop. It is small (about 150 MB) Linux-based application that allows you to watch DVDs and listen to CDs without booting the operating system.

Please leave this partition if you want to use this tool in the future.

BTW: Momus's right. This partition is not visible in Windows Explorer.

    Hi all

I have a Satellite A100-912 and have not reinstalled the operating system (Windows XP) for several years, but now I think that my laptop works well below par. I have my product recovery CD (disk recovery) and it will use for the re-installation.

I have three partitions on the HARD disk (c, d and e, respectively).

I was wandering if it would be possible to reinstall (get as long as the factory) my operating system on the c partition without erasing the data (for example my files) on partitions d and e.

I did this on a Toshiba Satellite L10 using suggestions in this forum, but I don't know how to do it on my own. Is the user interface for the recovery/re-resettlement is not the same thing, so I'm afraid to lose my data if I proceed with the re-install without knowing what to do.

Could you please say on how to make the re-installation of operating system only on the c partition without deleting (data on) other existing partitions.

    Thank you!

    > I was wandering if it would be possible to reinstall (get as long as the factory) my operating system on the c partition without erasing the data (for example my files) on partitions d and e.

No, this is not possible. The recovery disk would format the whole HARD drive and therefore the partitions created on the HARD drive would be so removed.
I recommend you to create a backup of the files before starting the recovery procedure.

  • Satellite A100-784: fact partition system restore DVD formats

    Hi guys,.

I would ask you for help :)

I have a Toshiba Satellite A100-784 with Windows Vista Home Basic OEM.
I have this Toshiba system recovery DVD. If I press F8 during start up I get to the screen where are some options (repair at startup etc.) but I'm interesting in 'Exploitation Windows System Restore'.
    I have two partitions (C:, D :), the system partition is C: :)
So, I would ask if I use this "Exploitation Windows System Restore" there he reformatted data on the D: partition as well?

If I press F8 when booting I get to the menu, I chose this computer repair and after that there are options:

    1 startup repair.)
    2 system restore.)
    Restoration complete 3 PC.) Windows
    Memory 4 Diagnostic tool.) Windows
    5. command prompt)
    6 operating system restore.) Windows

Is it possible to use one of these function just to reinstal C: partition without losing data on the D: partition?

    Thanks for the reply :)

    Hi friend

usually the system restore the c: partition fair DVD formats, so if you have two separate partitions, the restore DVD should leave the D: partition intact.
In your case I would choose point 6. (Operating system restore) that supposedly only restores the operating system, which means that it scratches the C: drive...

  • How to use the recovery on the Satellite A100-192 with 2 partitions CD

I have a satellite a100-192 with 100 GB hard drive.
When I bought it I used magic norton 8.0 partion to divide the disk into two partitions, c drive (used for files of program and other things; 20 GB) and d ' drive that I use for all my documents, music, videos and similar stuff...

and now, because of a few bad shots, I made (the software bad... lol) I want to reinstall windows. and honestly, I have no idea how to proceed. what I mean, I don't know what cd to use (I have two CD when I bought the computer), in fact I guess that's the one with ms a note on it, but how to do it safely without losing all my data on the d drive?

The problem is that I did a lot of relocations on desktop computers when you hava clean facilities and then I know what I'm doing, but I have no experience with bundled windows installations.

    Hello

Usually, Toshiba laptops are supplied with a Toshiba restore CD.
On this CD, you will find the image of Toshiba which contains all Toshiba drivers and utilities.

The question is what CD image you received.
Some people here in the forum suggested that, since January 2006 the Toshiba Recovery CD supports another recovery procedure. The new recovery CD does not support the ghost but the surface RECO and it s not possible to choose the partition for the installation of the OS.
In this case the whole HARD disk will be deleted and you will lose all your partitions.

I have only one old recovery CD and so I can't say if it is possible to choose the right partition. It was possible on the old recovery cd by selecting the expert mode.

In my view, that should make a backup of you all important files before you begin the recovery procedure.

  • Satellite A100-192: what I lose warranty if I create a partition on the HARD drive

    Hello everyone,

I want to format my laptop (Toshiba Satellite A100-192) and 2 partitions. I've been using EMP cd + recovery CD, it's very simple, but I don't want to install all the programs of Toshiba. I want to install a Windows 'fresh '.

I read all the messages on Toshiba Express media CD + recovery CD and xxxx on the HARD drive. I'm a bit confused. Many of you said: 'use only EMP recovery cd + CD' or ' do not xxxx 2 or more on your HARD drive - you can lose the warranty of your laptop.

I have another CD with Windows XP Pro OEM. It is best to create partitions, install from that cd and after that to install the drivers from TOOLSCD?

Of course, I don't want to lose my warranty, please tell me how it is better to do!

    Sincerely yours.
    Daniel

    Hello

    > Many of you said: 'use only EMP CD + recovery CD' or '' do not 2 or more partitions on your HARD drive.
' > you can lose the warranty of your laptop.

Someone told you a big story :)

It turns out; you do not lose the warranty after you create partitions on your HARD drive!
Only if you open the laptop and will try to fix something by yourself, you will lose your warranty.

Of course, you can use your fresh and original Windows operating system. After the installation of the operating system, you can install the drivers from the CD tools Toshiba or you're going to download it from the page of Toshiba.

  • Satellite A100-683: small lines running through the screen

    Hello

I bought my Toshiba A100-683 for a month.
The problem is that I sometimes see small grayish lines that passes through the LCD from the top to the bottom.
This is are the type of lines u see also when you use your camera (phone) to make a film of a monitor / lcd screen.

I still see them and seem to appear randomly.

I updated my video card drivers, but this does not solve the problem.

Is anyone familiar with this problem? Or knows a solution for this before I send it for repair.

    FEATURES OF THE LAPTOP:
    Date 10/14/2006 12:00:44

    Modelname Satellite A100
    Onderdeelnummer PSAA9E

    Greetings from Holland,

    Gaston

    Hello

It's not very easy to say why these small lines are through the LCD.
To tell a truth, I can't imagine these lines. I've never seen this show.

However, try to update the BIOS. There should be new BIOS available that solves the problem with the blurry background on A100.

Note: Make sure that you use the BIOS and the BIOS correct procedure.

  • Satellite A100-683: 251 MB partition found - whats for?

    Hello

    I just got a laptop Satellite A100-683.
It has 3 partitions, but the 3rd (at the end of the hard drive) is not visible in my computer.
In fact, Windows does not recognize its file system. The only thing that windows can say is that it is 251 MB in size and it is completely empty.

No idea what the of which partition is there since the only thing I can do with it is delete?

    With respect,

    Bart Grefte

    Hello

This partition is created for Express media player installation. This reader can be used without booting the operating system. Because of this, it must be preinstalled on a partition unallocated.

    All that s!

By the way: If one day want to install your own operating system, to ensure that the EMP is preinstalled in a first time (you shipped recovery EMP media).

  • Satellite A100-906: Express Media Player does not create the c partition

I recently bought the Satellite A100-906 model and I would like to make a partition to save the data, but the already existing partition with the reader of the Express does not allow part C: partitioning.

If I delete the partition Express I'll be able to install it after I divide the part C: or I have to choose between separation and the Media Player?

In my opinion it should work, but you must create the Express Media Player partition with the same size as the old.

PS: Do you know the Partitions Magic 8? This software allows you to create partitions while Windows is running. It's a great tool

  • Can not resize the partition on the Satellite A100-998

    Hello
I am owner of toshiba satellite A100-998 with 200 GB hard drive. By default there is only 1 partition on the HARD drive when I try to resize this partition and create another 8 partition magic shows me error that it cannot write to the boot sector and it fails. I didn't install any software on this computer and it has the latest version of the bios.

Ranish partition Manager displays the same error.
I don't know what the problem is because I've done similar operations on multiple computers with all the problems.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions

    Hello

I also use the magic of 8 Partitions for creating and management of simple partitions on the HARD disk.
But I wonder about the size of your HARD drive. As I know the Partitions Magic 8 does not support 200 GB HARD drive. I didn t to test but the partitions on the manufacturing site manual says it does not support.

However, sometimes, I had similar problems with my 80 GB HARD drive. The simple solution was to defragment single partitions.

I put t know if it will help you because of you HARD drive size, but you can try it.

  • Re: How to create a partition for instant recovery on Satellite A100 PSAA9E

.. .This can be a difficult issue but I wil give it a shot...

    I have a Toshiba Satellite A100 PSAA9E and a defined recovery disk.
In the recovery for the operating system (win xp MCE) disk there are two iso: PEbase.iso and the HDbase.iso.
After some snooping in the Northeast, I discovered what an enivorment of preinstallation and installation (sysprep) prepared.

Now I wonder if it can be so simple place the image .tpa from the recovery disk in partition and install it whit a pe that works directly from this partition.

The only real obstacle is that there is some .inf and .sif PES statically to the installation partition, which can be useful to know what has changed from the original version of xp MCE.

I know that the question is not easy but I hope that in the expertise of the admins

    Hello

    > Now I m wondering if it can be so simple place the image .tpa of recovery in a disk partition and install it whit a pe that works directly from this partition.

I doubt that it will work to be honest, I've never tested so I can't say exactly if it will work or not but in my opinion it is not possible

New laptop model are equipped in HARD drive recovery option, but this recovery works completely different. There is an additional menu that allows to start the HDD recovery procedure.

Your laptop supports the recovery disk and that disk must be used to retrieve the laptop.

By the way; I have a Norton Ghost utility. I create my own image using this tool and placed it on the second partition. If something goes wrong with my OS I can restore the entire system using the shadow and the filename of the image to the other partition.

  • Question about partitions on Equium A100-027

    Hi all!

I'm new to the forum but have been hidden for a while and he thought at the time that I said "Hello".

This and the fact that I have a question about my laptop Satellite A100-027.
The hard drive on my laptop seems to be divided into three partitions = Vista (c) / data (E :) / WinRE (d) with the WinRE (D :) is quite small but others, quite large.))

My C drive is up to 3 that GB free with about 35 GB of free data (E :) is possible to merge these two to give me a big drive? And if so, how?
Please excuse my ignorance, but it seems impossible to me to "get my head around" this thing hard drive and would split the a large hard drive.

Any help would be greatly appreciated and once again, Hello to all.

    Hello

As the user previous already said, you can manage HARD drive partitions in disk management settings.

If you n t want to have a data partition (e) then you can try to delete it in disk management.
Then you can add this empty space of the HARD drive for other partitions on the HARD drive.

But note; the empty space will be placed at the end of the HARD drive. I don't know if your C partition is placed as a second HARD drive partition, but if so, then it should be no problem to add empty space to partition C (System) of m.

  • Satellite A100 PSAA2E Setup hangs after connecting new HARD drive

    Hello

I have a problem with TOSHIBA Satellite A100 PSAA2E (3 year old laptop)
I bought the new SAMSUNG SPINPOINT 250 GB SATA (model HM250JI) hard drive.

After connection, the computer hangs on the first screen. I can't access the BIOS Setup (press F2)
I can't boot the CD of form (I can't select same drive to start by pressing F12)

    It just hangs.

When the HARD drive is unplugged I can access the configuration of the BIOS or boot from CD. When the original hard drive (FUJITSU 40BG) is connected, everything is ok.

I updated the BIOS to version 1.5 to the a more recent 2.6, but it did not help.

HARD drive runs under windows xp, when connected by USB port. It is formatted with NTFS: a primary partition(15GB), a stretch with two logical partitions (20BG, GB 215).

You have no idea where could be the problem?
Should I format hard drive in a different way?

    BR,

    Hello

Check if your new HARD drive has been fitted with a small jumper that controls the master/slave/c-salt settings.

A friend of mine bought a new HARD drive and BIOS didn't recognize because the rider has been set to the wrong position.

    1. they replace me the hard drive in a store. I don't have the Toshiba dvd recovery I used to format the windows. They told me that I can't use it more because the recovery of the disk partition is lost. If I want to format again what should I do?

If you have the Toshiba recovery disc in the past, you can use it as part of the new HARD drive. The Toshiba Recovery disk would fix the laptop back to factory settings, which means that you have installed Windows system, Toshiba drivers and additional software.

    > 2. The touchpad scrolling does not work everytime I turn on the laptop. I go to control panel > mouse and it shows me this message: "unable to connect to the score. synaptics device driver. Go to the page of the Toshiba UE driver and download the driver for the Synaptics touchpad. Install the touchpad driver and reboot the laptop. Usually, this should solve your problem.

It's strange. Usually the BT should work if the BT stack has been installed correctly. Please note that you must activate the BT using the fn (FN + F8). This combination turns on and the WiFi also. So make sure you did it correctly.

  • Satellite A100-683 with Win 7 - screen brightness adjustment does not work

    Hello

    I have a model of Satellite A100-683 PSAA9E with Win 7

My problem is that I don't have a brightness in my dashboard-> laptop Center

I tried to install the drivers from the site Web of Toshiba (additional package, return), but stops the installation always with errors such as: value added package: PVAT Setup error

I tried to install the drivers for Vista...

    Please help me!
    Sorry for my English mistakes.

    Hello

The installation may stop due to system problems or the PVAT erroneous version.
I recommend you to uninstall the installed VAP.
After the PVAT has been uninstalled, restart the laptop.
Now, download and install the tool small freeware called CCLeaner.
It helps to clean the system and deletes files temporal garbage from the HARD drive.
After the cleaning of the system registry, you must restart the system once more.

Now, go to the page of the Toshiba UE driver and download the Toshiba value added Package for Win 7. Note! Choose the right! There are differences between the 32-bit and 64-bit version.

Unzip the package, run the exe from installation or installation file and start the installation.
Installation should finish properly and after new reboot, you should be able to use the function keys.
