  The acquisition of the image will not take much processor power.  Probably a small fraction of the base.  The rest of the processors will be used for image processing and other functions.  The number of cores necessary depends on what will be done with the images and how fast to do.

  I suspect that the engineer who has selected the plans of the computer to do a lot of processing.  However, total 12 heart sounds like it might be overkill.
