Need to use windows update

I'm about to do a complete reinstallation of the operating system Vista to my HP Pavilion.    HP technical support advised me not to download the service packs and Microsoft updates because it can interfere with parameters established by HP at the time of the relocation.   I always downloaded those updates from Microsoft.    This is the first time that I received advice on this type.   Does make sense?    Thank you

Ira137,
You can check with a higher level of HP tech.  If you do not update your system may lose the support of coverage and be vulnerable to security threats.  Now you can get all you hardware drivers directly from HP instead of through Windows Update. However, I would make sure that you keep your software up to date.

Try to use Windows Update to install 2 updates (Windows Internet Explorer 9 for Windows Vista) and an a security update Cumulative for Internet Explorer 8 for Windows Vista KB253048. It's on a laptop at home unique stand alone, works with Windows Vista Home Premium SP2.

Windows Update initially reported two updates correctly installed and asks me to restart the PC, what I'm doing. Before the connection at the reboot prompt, I get a message saying "updates are not configured correctly. Restoration of the changes. It is the next messages saying: step 1/2/3 of 3 0% complete.
After I then connect I get the message ' Windows to not install important updates.

Update history reveals the KB253048 cannot install (error 80070005), but IE9 installed successfully. However when click on the IE icon and run Internet Explorer version 8 of Internet Explorer, I get, not version 9.

I tried to do this several times on 2 days, but get same problem.

  • Should I use Windows update for updates or download Toshiba bullet only?

    Hello

I have Toshiba Satellite laptop computer with Windows XP. I wonder what should I use windows update to download patches and additions or only
install quick fix from the Toshiba support pages? Is there a difference?

I noticed that to the Toshiba support site, there is no new update (miracles) have come in this year at all.

I ask this because I have some time ago asked Toshiba (when I contacted their support) I use only WLAN updates provided by Toshiba, Intel does not update even if I have the Intel WLAN card in my laptop and there was new driver at the side of Intel.

I agree with the previous user. I never installed all the patches page download Toshiba, just used Windows Update option in Explorer. So far, I've never noticed some problems.

If you clean the OS installation I recommend you to install SP2 (if missing) and after doing this run Windows updates.

I can't tell you much on Intel, but I repeatedly used newer drivers directly from the Intel download page.

  • Apply SP3 to sp3.cab manually instead of using Windows Update?

The original installation software of my PC included only Service Pack 2.  I used the update to upgrade my machine to SP3.  It took a lot of time (about 90 minutes).  What I would like to know... are the installation of SP3 files downloaded to my machine in a format that would allow me to run the update manually without going through Windows Update.  I found the SP3.cab file on my machine... but it isn't but 22.7 MB while updating told me that the download was (if I remember correctly) 66 MB approximately.  I don't want to download the full blown sp3 (314 mb) and I would like to avoid having to use Windows update to update my machine the next time I have to rebuild this machine.  Any suggestions on the best way to do it?

22 Sp3.cab MB isn't the whole update file, AFAIK. It is not yet a complete file.

My advice would be to let Windows Update to install SP3 if you do want to installation offline.
