Network printer is recognized but does not command shared print

Just installed update of XP on the computer desktop and Vista on the laptop.  Everything goes well on XP computer but the printer that is installed and set apart as before, will not print from the laptop.  This is a Photosmart HP 7160 and on my list of printers.  It shows that a doc is sent to the printer, but it will not and does not show in the queue.

None of the "fixes" listed here or on the work of HP.

Hi Marilynandav,

Follow the steps below and check if that helps you.

1. can you access files in the computer that is running Windows XP from the computer that is running Windows Vista? You must configure the first print settings.

File and Printer Sharing in Windows Vista

http://TechNet.Microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb727037.aspx#EFAA

2. to connect to a shared printer on Windows Vista.

1) click the Start button, and then in the search box, type \ followed by the name of the computer with the shared printer you want to use (for example, \\mylaptop).

(2) press on enter.

(3) If Windows can find the computer on the network, a folder is opened for the computer. Double-click Printers. If none of the shared printers connected to this computer, they will appear here. If you do not see the shared printer you want to use, ask a person who uses this computer if the printer is connected, turned on, and shared with other users on the network.

4) double-click the printer. Windows will automatically add the printer to your computer and install the printer driver. When the process is complete, click Next.

(5) the printer should appear in your printers folder. You can select this printer when you want to print a document or another file type.

Note: If Windows can automatically find and install the printer driver that allows this shared printer to work with your computer, you must install the driver before you will be able to print.

(1) download the Windows Vista compatible driver from the HP website and check:

(2) remove the existing printer driver and reinstall it.

Remove the printer

==============

(a) click on the "Start" button, type PRINTERS in the start search box and press ENTER.

(b) find the icons that are related to Dell photo924, and delete them.

(c) right-click on the blank part of the window and choose "Run as Administrator"-> "Server Properties".

(d) the tab drivers, select the printer that is listed and click Remove. Please, select Remove driver and driver package.

(e) open the start menu, enter APPWIZ. CPL in the search box and press ENTER to launch the "programs and features".

(f) try to remove all related printer software.

(g) reinstall the latest driver.

After installing the driver, please follow the steps below

Add a shared printer

====================

(a) click Start, click Control Panel and double-click Printers.

(b) on the keyboard, press Alt, and then click the file-> run as administrator-> add printer.

When the UAC window appears, click on continue to go.

(c) select "add a local printer.

(d) select "create a new port". Select "Local Port" as the port type.

(e) in the "Enter a port name" box, type the address in the following format.

\\[IP address of the host computer]------[the share name of the printer]

(f) and then click Next.

(g) follow the instructions to complete the installation. During the installation, choose the driver in the list of drivers.

3. try to connect the printer to the Windows Vista-based computer directly and see if it prints normally.

Thank you, and in what concerns:

Well, then, recently got a 8 GB SDHC for my phone. When I put in, he recognized her, but try to copy files to it just generated an error message. After two tests of this he has refused to recognize in all.

Tried to put in my card reader (XP), he picked up fine. After watching more, downloaded SD Formatter and who ran on it. I have an attached PNY 8 GB USB 2.0 Flash Drive that works perfectly on Windows XP. But when I try to use it on a Windows 7 operating system, it is very few recognized by Windows 7. I mean at least, is that when I look for the device by exploring 'Computer' in the menu start the device does not appear at ALL. However, when I go to control panel-> hardware and sound-> devices and printers, it shows a device called "DISK 2.0" which I believe are 'minimum' recognition of this 8GB flash drive, I was talking about. Can someone help me get the recognition for this camera on Windows 7? Thank you.

Edit: I noticed in Device Manager-> USB MASS STORAGE DEVICE-> Propteries the following for my optical mouse Microsoft and the PNY 8 GB flash drive

The Microsoft Optical mouse is the location: Port_ #0001.Hub_ #0004

On the MagicJack (USB Composite device) is the location: Port_ #0002.Hub_ #0007

On the flash drive is the location: 0000.001d.0002.002.000.000.000.000.000

I read the previous posts about other people with this kind of problem and checked my device manager and uninstalled all my drivers and then re them installed for the mouse, but I noticed that when I uninstall the drivers mouse and plug it in again, it installs several things; under Human Interface drivers it installs the HID-compliant device and 3 USB input devices.
It also installs "HID-compliant mouse" under "mice and other pointing devices".
Every 10-20 seconds it will make noise that indicates it is be unplugged and plugged back in and all the drivers disappear and reappear.
I tried to use another mouse that looks like this, and none of them work in my laptop. They both work in my PC and my laptop of brothers, they are both windows 7.

    Hello

As you have tried 2 other mice in all ports of the computer and both does not work, but the same mouse works in any other computer shows that the problem is with the controllers USB (universal Serial Bus) of the laptop.

I would ask you re-install Bus controllers and check if that helps.

a: press the Windows key + R, and then click on Device Manager

    b. expand the Controllers of Bus USB section by clicking on the'+' sign.

    c. Uninstall each of the devices under the section USB Controller by right-clicking on each one, and then clicking Uninstall.

    d. close the Device Manager and restart your computer. Windows RE-automatically install the USB controllers in your computer, without you having to do anything further. Your computer is now running properly USB devices.

I have a Microsoft Arc mouse I got a few days before... Hi - I actually found the problem and the solution.

The problem is related to the Microsoft Bluetooth power management feature. You must turn off the power for the bluetooth mouse management.

Unfortunately, I discovered the issue after I returned the device to Microsoft. Given that Microsoft was aware of this feature, that I'm really surprised to see that:

    1. It is not mentioned in the manuals for the Arc Mouse
    2. He is not mentioned anywhere on the help of the advice provided by Microsoft
    3. He made public not much at all

I bought a Logitech mouse - which had exactly the same problem, and that's when I realized it was a systematic problem. I kept digging and came across the answer that worked - disable power management.

I'm surprised that it is not made more transparent - I see forums and others that it is a very big problem. Epic fail for Microsoft on this one.

In any case, I hope this helps others!

  • Windows 7 - hard drive from Iomega EGO 2.0 Ext. - recognized but does not work

Just got a new laptop Gateway with Windows 7, and I'm having a hard time getting my external drive running.  It is an Iomega Ego 1 TB USB 2.0 drive, which is on the list of compatible hardware.  I don't see the drive under 'Computer', however, if I go to "Computer management" and then under "Disk management" I can see the player identified as disk 1.  If I try to do a right click on the drive to set the drive letter and path I get an error saying "the operation failed to complete because the disk management console view is not updated.  Refresh the view by using the refresh task.  "If the problem persists close the disk management console, then restart disk management or restart the computer.  I have done this several times and changed the USB port and cable tension... all out and started... all without any positive result.

    Anyone have any ideas?

    Thanks in advance!

  • 8600 visible on the network, but does not print wireless

I can see the 8600 on my airport network, but does not display the work sent wireless (no error msg, stay in the queue). To print correctly if the USB cable is connected. Also see a separate network of 8600, but do not have a WEP key for it and don't see how to create one, so it won't let me join this network. Don't see any info on this in your pages and support forums.

It was a very good question. I looked at my list of printer and there are 2 8600 s that are listed.  I think we could be active when the printer is connected via the cable and one for when it is wireless. I went by default and had no trouble in a wireless printing sheet.  It is probably a mistake on my part of the user, but I don't remember adding a second printer in the menu printing. I'll play around with it and remove an if it is not necessary. Thanks for your help.

  • HP Laserjet 1018: Printer light blinks 15 times but does not print

I have 2 printers, my work horse HP laser jet and a Brother Multi printer/scanner/fax etc. Both printers work correctly when connected (usb to LJ1018 connection) or wireless (Brother MFC) to my notebook running windows 7 lite.

My desktop HP compaq core 2 duo machine is connected to two printers with the help of a brother network cable and a usb cable for the LJ1018 but I decided to connect the brother wireless to my network, because it allowed me to use my netbook without having to plug in a usb or network cable. I also created my office to connect wireless to the brother and it works fine, but now I find that I can not use the LJ1018 that I think only has a usb cable connection. Although the computer says the printer is connected it is flashing the light several times - about 15 but does not print anything. I tried to reinstall the USB driver but this makes no difference. One thought I have is that Windows XP cannot deal with a wireless connection, but also a connection usb, if yes can I have go back to wired connections?

Completely stumped with this. I have a brother MFP990 all in a station. It is connected wireless to my network. I have a laptop computer connected wireless network and it prints fine. My desktop computer, but does not print even if it seems to recognize that it is there. The printer is communicating with my computer and let me know the ink level is low. My scanner works perfectly and scans the computer, no problem. But whenever I try to print, the computer tells me that the printer is offline. I tried to disable Norton firewall, no difference. I tried to uninstall the software, and oddly enough, during the uninstall process, an exceptional print request was printed! When I reinstalled, same problem. Any ideas?

  • After a clean install of Windows Vista, Intel Wifi card is installed and activated, but does not detect the network.

Wireless card not working after a clean install of Windows Vista

I did a clean install of Windows Vista Home Premium on my HP Pavilion of 32 bits. I've completely updated Windows via Service Pack 2. Given that the clean install, my wireless card, Intel (r) Wireless WiFi Link 4965AGN, was not able to detect all the networks. The Wifi card is listed under NICs as being installed and activated. the hardware on my laptop Wifi switch is set on "on" and the light is blue, indicating that the card is working.

I can connect to the internet if I connect physically my computer to the modem with an ethernet cable wireless, so the modem isn't the problem. Other computers can connect to the wireless modem, so my Wifi modem functionality is not the problem. The problem with my computer.

I tried to uninstall the Intel driver and reboot my computer with the generic driver. Install the driver generic, but my wireless card has not always worked. I then ran an update of windows, nothing helps.

I tried to install the "Intel® PRO /? Wireless and WiFi Link"drivers for Windows Vista (32-bit 13.1.1.1 the latest version and the previous version 12.4.4.5 32-bit) for the Intel® Wireless WiFi Link 4965AGN directly from the Intel Web site at http://downloadcenter.intel.com/SearchResult.aspx?lang=eng&ProductFamily=Wireless+Networking&ProductLine=Intel%C2%AE+WiFi+Products&ProductProduct=Intel%C2%AE+Wireless+WiFi+Link+4965AGN. The map didn't always work with a driver.

In addition to the pilots, I also downloaded a tool of diagnosis of Intel (Intel® PROSet /?) Utility of WiFi wireless connection for Windows Vista 32 -? Bit). Said diagnostic tool the WiFi card is not installed or enabled, however, Device Manager maintains that he is also installed and active.

Is there a problem that causes Device Manager to say that all is well with the card, but does not map to realize that they diminish the radio signals? Everything's fine, diagnostic, it just does not detect networks around him. Help, please.

Actually try updating your driver and disabling the network logon.

  • Re: Deskjet 3070 - replaced the cartridges but does not now print!

I have the same problem with my printer Officejet 6700 Premium. I just replaced all the cartridges with HP new ones. The printer is now going through the motions but does not print blank pages. This happens for all what I am trying to print including Diagnostics pages. The printer is a little older a year is not under warranty. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

    Hello twoshirts,

I saw your other threads, and I understand that you have completed all the procedures listed here troubleshooting: printer does not print black ink or color of ink or prints blank Pages without success.

I would like you to follow the steps below:

    1. reset of the printer, please make sure that you plug the printer directly into the wall, do not use a surge protector or power bar, they can cause the printer is in an error state and lose features of base over time.

2 a 'cartridge problem', "Ink cartridge failed" or not "compatible ink cartridges" Error Message appears on the all-in-one, I know you did the cleaning steps, but, if you please, reinstall the cartridges and perform all THE steps listed

    3. now go ahead and run HP print and Scan Doctor- it has been designed to provide users with HP and features troubleshooting fix needed to solve many common problems experienced with HP print and scan the products related to Windows computers.

I understand that you are not able to print diagnostics from the menu on the front panel as well, but want to see if the PSDR detects all conflicts in the software or drivers.

Please let me know the results.

    Thank you
