Networking on RedHat 5.5

Hi all, I think it's a common problem judging by messages on the internet. However, none of the fixes worked for my setup. I have a HP DL 350 G6 server. ESXi 4 running. It has an extra quad NIC n375t, which I installed additional drivers for one is picked up in VMWare. I installed Red Hat Linux 5.5 on it, which has installed without problem. I have a virtual installation running off of the built-in NIC switch. This goes to the console management & the machine virtual linux.

Machine starts, no error reported. I configured a correct on eth0, default gateway static IP address and mask. However, I am unable to get any access to the LAN or Internet to eth0. The MAC address matches that of E1000 card when checking the configuration settings of the Virtual Machine. TX RX traffic via eth0 is, I can ping the loopback, but still not bring no matter what connection beyond the Virtual Machine.

All the blogs suggest to change the virtual NETWORK of Machine card MAC address to the same thing as the vmnic0 (the only allow NIC). Having done this during the restart of its give an error of incorrect MAC address on eth0 and disables it. It is by changing the \etc\sysconfig\network-scripts\ifcfg-eth0 file to change the MAC address.

This should be easy, and I'm sure someone will know a quick fix. But slowly, I'm going crazy. This used to be so easy on ESX 3.5! Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.

RJB-

We have solved the problem on our side. If you have the advanced platform, and you enter the subscription number, you have the possibility during the installation of "Virtualization" (the same screen as the Web, development tools, and clustering).

There is a problem with Red Hat virtualization running while the server is virtualized. (I opens virtualization configuration is when the server runs as a host, not a guest operating system)

I reinstalled without virtualization and networking works like a charm.

I hope this helps!

Please excuse my lack of knowledge in this area as this is all new to us (UCS, SAN and Linux).

We have a UCS chassis with blade series B200 and start ISCSI disks on a HP 43000 storage nodes.

With the help of the CISCO rep, we set up the profiles Server UCSM and parms ISCSI boot, etc. and installed Redhat 6.4 - Basic Configuration.  I'm now trying to configure the network access server and this is, I'm stuck and I wonder if a step is missed in our configuration.

On the side of UCSM, it conversely fabric is assigned IPs xxx.xxx.34.71 and 34,72 with a VIP address to 34,70.  Both A & B fabrics are connected to our network switches and are also directly connected to our isolated SAN switches.

We have created a pool of MAC and a POOL of IP (xxx.xxx.34.73 80) and created two VLAN VLAN20 and 21.

    In service profiles, I see:

-two vNIC ISCSI, one for each switch fabric

VLAN21 (Native) being for fabric sw A & B routes (xx.xx.0.21 & xx.xx.0.41) to ISCSI storage to start nodes. No adapter policy is set.

-4 vNIC FabA and B - Dev, FabA and B-ISCSI. There is no configuration policy dynamics vNIC connection or LAN connectivity

The FabX-Dev are assigned to the VLAN20 and ISCSI-FabX are assigned to VLAN21

I see the blades in the tab LAN USCM, receive an IP address from the IP pool (for example. xx.xx.34.73)

Seen this configuration, I now install the OS and once completed, I see eth0, ane ibft is already configured

However when I run system-config-network, I see eth0, 2 and 3 are labelled Cicso VIC Ethernet NIC and eth1 is just Ethernet.

Eth2 and 3 are configured for dhcp while eth0 is not.

At this point, I can reboot and launch a KVM of USCM session. I can ping the IP assigned to the blade, but permission denied trying to ssh in as root.

I tried to configure eth1 at xxx.xxx.43.60, but get a device is not present when you do an ipup eth1. I also tried to configure eth3 with the same IP address, but it does not work too.

    What Miss me?

    Hello

If you have decided to dedicate a NIC for iSCSI traffic (say KEEN 767), you should be allowing to the VLAN necessary under the Service profile > vNIC > VLAN article.

Similarly, you must allow VLAN necessary in other vNIC.

The OS point of view, you configure the IP address and associate it to the respective network interfaces.

    Thomas

If you can't get it by sysprep, you can use the VIX plugin for vCO to run a command in the guest OS once it is deployed and under tension.

Why is your host sudheer.oracledb name but your file/etc/hosts indicates the hostname like sudheer.oracle11db?  These entries do NOT match, and that's why you can't find the host of the listener.  Edit the file/etc/hosts to have the REAL host name; you might be surprised that the listener starts to work.

  • Methodlogy patch redhat

    Hello

I would like to ask you a few tips about the Redhat patch method.

I have read the documentation concerning the correction and it says that to patch Redhat, you need a host of Redhat to serve repo content. Can I just use a virtual machine rather than act as a repo?

I use VCM 5.7.1 patch Redhat 6, there is no internet access.

    Hello

In order to patch to work, here are the things needed to be done:

    1. you should have an account with RHN (RedHat Network). Our product use this account to download the patches.

    2. as you said, any RedHat VM can also serve the repository machine. You just need to have a SCR 5.0 (Content Repository software) unzipped in a directory (/ root).

    3. you need Internet access to connect to the RHN.

I'm running into a situation of lack of bandwidth for my backup server running inside the virtual machine environment. To increase bandwidth coming from a number of backup clients on my backup inside ESXi 5 server. I would like to collage x NIC 2 inside my redhat Server installation and train the grouping of NETWORK cards using Hash my ESXi host IP.

What is the feasible way to provide a 2G from end to end connection to the outside world for my redhat backup media server? or there is an inverse?

I don't think you need to add a second NETWORK card to the Redhat VM, which acts as a backup server as a single for the virtual computer NETWORK adapter can accommodate more load than 1 G.

I have a couple of Redhat with a single NIC servers. VMXNET the following example shows this ethtool sees for the NETWORK adapter on one of these Redhat servers.

    [sfuller@rhel7 ~] $ sudo ethtool eth0
    Settings for eth0:

When I run a transfer TCP (using thrulay) from one server to another, you can see that it is 2.6Gbps average on the transfer of 10 seconds.

So this shows that we can get more than the throughput of 1 Gbps on a single "GE NIC" on a Redhat VM.

You will need to do is, as you mentioned, change load balancing on the host than the Redhat VM ESX runs using the road based on the hash of the IP. This will allow the Redhat VM to use more than a single teddy bear on the ESX host. You also need to several customers, including LSB of their XOR IP addresses differently, but you said you have several clients and so unless you're really unlucky with the IP addresses to clients have you should be good there.

I hope this helps and good luck.

    Complete recovery manager.

The seller of bands is EMC networker 763. There are other other aix hosts running prod db supported by the same provider, we tried their script on the linux host, we got an exact same error.

I wonder if I should setup NLS enviornment. but the emc network operates by setting variables in a config file in / etc /. He did information non-specific nls.

Does he know this seller and this problem, please help me solve the problem.

    Thank you in advance.

Since I was on backup as copy. So backup copy won't work on the Strip?

    Hello

No, you can't backup as copy directly to tape.

Don't know if it works but try this

    1. first copy the disk backup
    2. then backup datafilecopy all tape

    See you soon

  • Networking jumpered on Linux comments

I have a 2 VMServer running on windows server 2003.  I have implemented XP and server 2003 as virtual machines.  These connect my domain name using bridged networks internal without any problem.  However, I installed a version of redhat enterprise linux 4 on the VMserver and I can't get this talking to the network.  I am fairly new to Linux and VM.  any help would be apprecitaed.

    Welcome to the forums!

In general, you should follow the path of Linux configuration of a network connection. Do you need help here, as well?

What you need to do (and I hope that you did in your Windows guests, as well) is to install the VMware tools inside your RedHat prompt. This gives you all the drivers.

    Read this: http://pubs.vmware.com/ws65_ace25/ws_user/new_guest_tools_ws.html

You can choose the method you want to use. If the .rpm does not give you the tools, install it using the .tar file: http://pubs.vmware.com/ws65_ace25/ws_user/new_guest_tools_ws.html

  • VM network interfaces

    Hi all

I'm banging my head. I have installed VM Workstation on my windows 2003 64 - bit PC. I also installed VMTools

I installed Redhat on the side of the virtual machine.

My network is 192.168.0.50 to 192.168.0.100

for some reason, the VM has set up many different networks like 192.169.19.130 etc...

I don't want to use, I want to use my 192.168.0.50 to 192.168.0.100 range and be able to ping back and fourth of my true operating system on my virtual computer.

I think I messed up something.  I just want to use eth0, it's everything. I don't need the other interfaces.

What can I do to restore the ability to ping and the true operating system VM commnicate?

I get ping of VM to real operating system

    $ ping 192.168.0.97

Don't forget that I've screwed around the virtual network adapter. I should of asked help b4 I screwed up things. I would appericate if anyone can help me get back on track

    Thank you

Wow, I'm sure is glad you posted this because networking with in my VMware Workstation has been problematic.   Not so much to do outside NET that I've been using multiple interfaces, but the connection and communication between virtual machines has been problematic.  Is there something in the manual that you can suggest that I may have missed?   I have NAT had all the virtual machine and it seems to work a little on my personal system, but on my business system in the office - no dice.  Both are HP laptops and two of the virtual machine are the same.  I tried to imitate my settings on the virtual network editor but the end upward with IP conflict on two of the virtual machines in the office.

Broad suggestions as to where I might start troubleshooting would be great.

  • Network controller is not connecting

    Hello

I use a virtual machine, I created some time ago. Rebuilt my pc and reinstalled vmware. now, I can not start the network controller (NAT works but connected by one BRIDGE does not work).

    Any ideas?

PS: I have a VM from redhat

No, VMware Bridge Protocol Service should not be added to the virtual NICs, only your physical!  If it is not in the list, look for - the netbridge.inf file must be located in the VMware Server folder.
