New certifications VMWare VCP

Hello.
I need your help to understand how to manage with the new VMWare certifications.
I saw all the certifications are now named VCP5-XX, the 'simple' VCP5 disappeared almost everywhere at VMWare.
Since I'm VCP4 and VCP5 certified, I would like to know how to handle this.
The VCP5 have no meaning more at VMWare and I have to take other exams to update to VCP5-XX?
Will be the VCP5 updated automatically with one of the names of this new?
If so, why in myTranscript and logos I can still see the simple VCP5 of 'old '?
Can anyone of you please help me with a clear explanation of what's going on?
Of course, any document on this subject or any kind of help is welcome.
Thank you all for your support.
Kind regards.

For the traditional PVC based on vSphere the suffix - DV is just a change of name/rebranding exercise. The secure Channel branding now applies to 3 areas of different products as follows:

VCP - DV = data center virtualization (vSphere)

VCP-Cloud = cloud (vCloud Director)

VCP - DT = Desktop (view)

So VCP5-DV is the new name of VCP5, and you are a VCP4-DV and a VCP5-DV.

I don't know if/when that VMware updates transcripts/logos.

Scott.

  • I'm new to VMware and need help.

I'm new to VMWare and barely installed ESXi 6.0 created a host but now I can not install Windows 2012 r2. Cannot access the ISO. Do I need the plugin integration customer or what. I called tech support and they would not help because I am on trial. Any help would be great. Thank you

You select the ISO in the settings of the virtual machine and select 'connect at Power On "? Alternatively, you can connect the ISO in the current state (power on) and then press CTRL-ALT-INS to 'hot' start the virtual machine.

PS: If it still does not work, check that you have a bootable ISO image, for example not only a picture of Service Pack.

Hello just a small matter of team.

    We have 5 ESX

Is it possible to hide the news of Vmware's Virtual Machine during the creation of the Virtual Machine (not in registry) that we have a lot of VM?

    Hello

It is possible that you could change some things in the registry, but there are many other "clues" as something being a virtual machine, such as the presence of tools VM, MAC address, drivers, etc.

  • New to VMware and Exchange 2010

    Hello

I'm new to VMware and have some questions about the installer.  We just bought a HP DL380 G7 server and Exchange 2010.  I want to virtualize this server with a BES.  I'm trying to understand the best way to proceed.  We also have a Dell EqualLogic iSCSI SAN (PS4000).  Wouldn't it be better for me to boot from SAN and have ESxi installed on the SAN?  Or would it be preferable for ESxi installed on the server and have my VM hosted/installed on the SAN?  Thanks for the help.

    Hello owblueiii,

I almose same infrastructure such as this, when I started the virtualization process was confused in this place, finally, we kept the boot on local, VMs oniSCSI SAN.

advantages: 1. because if you have any questions you can the Como.

2 and also a little difficult to troubleshoot if you have the on iscsi san boot partition.

    3. you can register your vms on san iscsi timing if you want the new ESX installation.

Hope it's useful to your question.

  • new to vmware - question

Hi all, I'm new to VMWare and you want to ask a silly question. My project plans to use vmware on a single physical server running windows 2003 to implement multiple instances of servers windows 2003 virtual. My question is what do we need to have different IP address and host name for each server virtual windows? Or vmware manages to solve this problem itself? If so, how does this work?

    Thank you!

guys, thanks for your reply... as you said, we need differernt IP addresses for each server, which makes it easy for us becase that means that we must go through a long process to the commission, the servers with the new ip address...

If you had multiple physical servers, you will need to go through the same exact process. How many servers you plan giving each server an IP address is a big problem? VMWare removes just your need more physical servers, what you do with the guest computers is pretty much unchanged.

  • New to VMware - problems with P2V

I am very new to VMware, so I don't know exactly where to start to get out of trouble. I try to P2V a couple of machines (an older office and about a year laptop) just to test it and get comfortable with the process. I managed with the creation of new virtual machines, but whenever I try to convert one, converter Stand Alone Client shows the conversion as having successfully completed. When I try to run the virtual machine in vSphere Client, all I get is a black screen with what appears to be a progress bar gray little in the upper left of the screen.

I'm sure that more information is needed, the only thing is that I'm not sure that I have all the information I provide and where to find it. Any help is greatly appreciated.

    bstaton,

Re-convert and go to the SCSI instead of IDE.  This is a bug, here's the cover note:

    Hi all

I inherited a few major COMPUTER disasters with a client. I'm new to VMWare and have found that several virtual servers are no longer running. We have pay to this topic. When I run the Home Page of VMWare Server it takes me to VMware Infrastructure Web Access with a login and password, but I have no idea what could be. The person who set up the system is not reachable. Is there a way to identify and fix this mess?

  • New to VMware and considering the training & Certification

    Hello

I have worked on various projects and IT admin job for more than 14 years in Windows and NetWare environments, but have no experience with any type of virtualization.

I want to acquire sufficient experience for coherent conversation VMware and vSphere in an interview, and to pass the exam, and I think I might prefer the speed and convenience of the Live-Online course.

    Basically, I have 2 questions:

    1. for someone like me, is at - it a real advantage to take VMware vSphere: crash course, or will install, configure and manage of course give me what I'm looking for?

2 are there opinions on the benefits of class vs Live-course online?

Any opinions at all would be greatly appreciated.

    Thank you

    Chris

    Welcome to the Forums-

    1. I recommend the installation and configuration - it will give you the necessary information to develop a good base in VMware and start preparing to take and pass the exam VCP - there's a number fo son in this forum about what you should do to prepare for the exam of the secure Channel.

    2. The line is good and the same class that is provided in the class but I think the interaction with the instructor and with other students is extremely beneficial.

    Good luck

  • How to prepare VMware VCP 5?

Hi all, I intend to take 5 secure Channel data center review in the next 6 months. Part of my role is to support the VM servers, but that does not give me an exhibition full of technology. I want to own a practice laboratory where I can create, modify, migrate virtual computer servers. What is the best way to create a laboratory? VMware workstation has limited features, i.e. I can not reproduce w/o SAN infrastructure. Can what tools I use? How VMware professional prepare for VCP, VCAP exams?

As others have said, VMware Workstation is adequate for the preparation in the review of VCP 5. You will not be able to cover every single goal in terms of the review with the workstation-based laboratory installation, but you probably wouldn't be able to do this without a pure material laboratory very very expensive still. Get VMware Workstation on a host with as much RAM as possible and go from there. For the goal, you can't reproduce in your lab of the workstation (FCoE, cf anything) spend reading a little more time and see also on youtube. The number of objectives you can not cover with this lab setup is few and really should not be enough to make the difference between the past and do not.

To see software iSCSI Starwind iSCSI SAN Free Edition and NFS, see http://www.openfiler.com. For vSphere Storage Appliance, see http://communities.vmware.com/message/1837450. In addition, William Lam (lamw) has a lot of excellent information on nested FT, ESXi and more http://www.virtuallyghetto.com which can be very useful for building the lab.

The only thing I can say with the laboratory of the workstation is to never get too attached to your configuration. Do not think that this is a static environment and think about all the virtual machines as throw. If you are outside resources and need to turn a new Windows VM to test the Update Manager or other software, then just clean up and go for it. You may need to do a little more work with this approach, but which only will prepare you more.

    Good luck!

  • New to VMWare, need help with my setup

Hi everyone, I'm trying to run a specific installation to a laboratory at the House and I'm stuck. at this point I don't know if this is even possible. I have a virtual running Windows server 2012 and a Win7 machine empty. What I need to do, is be able to pxe boot the empty machine since the 2012 server which is running WDS. The service is running, and check all options out_ it is configured as a domain controller and operating dhcp options 60 and 67 correctly configured. Any network settings I try the vm vacuum does not pick up the file of pxe boot from the server... is this even possible or should I try a different product at this point?

It will probably prove to something simple because I'm new on this but no amount of Googling has done for me so far. Thanks in advance for any help and suggestions!

    Hello

    Welcome to community work station!

Practices of related laboratory PXE is supported by VMware Workstation. Here is an example for windows: VMWORSTATION 12 PRO, need driver of storage for MDT

Some tips for the network configuration of your lab environment:

    1. use an independent VMnet for PXE service, DO NOT use bridged VMnet. And you would NOT use better VMnet NAT (aka VMnet8)

    How to:

    a. click on the menu "Edit"-> "Virtual Network Editor... workstation "to open the virtual network Editor.

    b. click on the "Edit settings" button, accept the UAC warning as appropriate.

    c. click on the button "add a network...". ».

    d. Select a new VMnet (I'll use VMnet2 for example), click on the OK"" button.

    e. click 'Apply' then 'OK' in the virtual network Editor dialog box.

    f. open the settings of your virtual machine VM

    g. Select the tab "Hardware"-> "Network card", this "connect to power on" is checked

    h. Select "Custom" and the VMnet you added

    i. click "OK" in the dialog box settings of VM

    j. Repeat step f through i for all your virtual machines

2 disable DHCP this VMnet of Virtual Network Editor(Technical speaking, it's not necessary, just in case)

    How to:

    a. click on the menu "Edit"-> "Virtual Network Editor... workstation "to open the virtual network Editor.

    b. click on the "Edit settings" button, accept the UAC warning as appropriate.

    c. Select the VMnet you use for the PXE service

    d. uncheck 'Use local DHCP service to distribute IP addresses to virtual machines' option

    e. click 'Apply' then 'OK' in the virtual network Editor dialog box.

    It will be useful.

    Kind regards

  • new to vmware, vsphere and networking vswitch

    Hi all

I am new to virtualization, but decided to try it since my company is going full on ESXI5.5.  That is why I hope that some kind gurus here can point me in the right direction regarding some doubts I have... and do not forgive me if I ask ridiculous questions...

    ==========

So far, I know that VMs, through their vNIC connect to vSwitch which is in turn connected to the physical machine or the host ESXI (vmnic) network card. The vmnic is then connected to a real L2/L3 switch.

[VM Vnic] <>- [vswitch] <>- [vmnic] <>- [physical switch]

However, what I don't understand is how the vmnic actually works to spread the traffic "inward" to the vswitch? I can't really come up with one question to explain my doubt, but below are the doubts that I asked myself->

    • How is he able to assign the IP off the internal virtual machines?
    • When an outer package of the physical switch is being sent to the vmnic how he spend in-house for internal virtual computers?
    • How even knows designated IP belong to a virtual machine inside and "inward" to happen to the vswitch?
    • Is the vmnic using address IP or MAC to decide if it means putting the package inside the switch?
    • When an arp request for a virtual machine IP is send from the outside, the vmnic will reply with its mac address?
    • When an arp request is sent from an internal virtual machine, the vmnic keep track of the mac address of the virtual machine so that next time, when he saw a response to this MAC, he knows inside 'before' the vSwitch
    • What is this work something like a 'bridge' mode fill the vswitch internal to the external physical switch? Is there a table of addresses belonging to the vmnic mac?
    • Whenever the IP of the virtual computer is assigned, the IP address will be "bind" to the vmnic?
    • How register us all IP or Mac addresses (if any) that are associated with a vmnic?

Or rather simply, I wonder how the physical network adapter on the host (esxi), knows that he must transfer a frame "inward" to the vswitch? is there a link OF the virtual machine to the interface? or nic was a table of addresses mac or something... (but the mac address table guess belong to vswitch?)

    Thank you.

    Kind regards

    Noob

    Hello

    Welcome to the community!

I would like to start with a doc. I recommend you to read our VMware Virtual Networking Concepts guide that I hope will help you to better understand the basic details of the virtual in VMware switch, even if it's a bit old.

    On your last question, however:

    > Or rather simply put, I wonder how the physical network adapter on the host (esxi), knows that he must transfer a frame "inward" to the vswitch? is there an IP link from the virtual machine to the interface? or nic was a table of addresses mac or something... (but the mac address table supposed to belong to vswitch?)

The vminc (i.e. the physical card) on the ESXi host is not that there is a virtual switch behind it. It transfers the packets to the driver and then the top layer software it management. There is no magic to this topic. In some cases, there are a few added techniques (for example netqueue), but the basis remains the same. Vmnic (i.e. the physical NETWORK adapter card) does not keep the information of MAC address of the virtual machine on virtual machines, but does the vSwitch. But even the vSwitch does not retain details of the IP address.

A virtual switch, as such, doesn't have the same kind of as a physical switch mac address table. If a virtual machine under tension then the vSwitch stores the virtual port <->combination MAC address number and keeps it like that (so far it's really no different a physical switch). A big difference is that, well that the vSwitch does not learn the MAC addresses of the external network. If there is a picture of outside with the MAC address of unicast for which there is no port isn't linked then the packet gets dropped. And if the virtual machine sends traffic to another MAC that does not exist in the virtual switch and then it will be sent out via the uplink (s) (if it exists).

The MAC address of the vmnic does not play here (unless one of the vmkernel interface pulls his MAC to an adapter of uplink).

I hope this helps. Let me know if you still have any questions.
