New HDD in Tecra 8100 (500 mhz)

Anyone know if one of the hard disk for Toshiba laptop is compatible with the Tecra 8100 pentium 3 (500 mhz)? I'm looking for the reader more fast/capacity for the execution of programs like Cubase 5.1, Cubase SX 1, 2 music sequencing, Sibelius etc.

Hello

I found information that this device has been delivered with 6 GB; 8 GB; 12 GB; 15 GB; 18 GB; 20GB hard drives. In my opinion, it should be possible to use a 40 GB HARD drive. But I don't know if the 80 or a 100 GB HARD drive works Mr. I think it might be a problem of recognition of the BIOS.

If you want to learn more about compatible HARD drive sizes, you should ask the ASP or the HARD drive manufacturers because they hold more information and sometimes they test units with different drives.

Good bye

The HARD drive has no adapter, just the usual PATA pins.

Your new HARD drive is a 2.5 or 3.5?
Only 2.5 hard drives will fit in a laptop.

However, you need a HARD drive connector to use the HARD drive in the laptop.
But if you remove the old HDD there is already such a connector. Remove this connector and put it to the new.
That s all and then you can use it.

  • Cannot install Windows XP Home edition on the new HDD in Tecra S3

    Hey,.

I bought a second hand without HARD drive laptop, so I bought a new Samsung's HARD drive with 120 GB yesterday. I have it rolls in my Tecra laptop and it started. But for some reason, there are problems.

Already, I have downloaded the driver for the RAID and I took it on a diskette. I also have an external floppy drive, but when it finished installing the driver and Windows Setup should start the computer always says he could not install on this partition because he doesn't? t can be accessed.

I formatted the HARD drive a few times but nothing helped... I don't have a system recovery disk and I tried already with integrating the driver configuration via nLite.
But now there is something new. Whenever the installation should start there is a blue screen that tells me I have to reboot the PC and check the virus or take out the HARD drive.

The biggest problem is the laptop is the Dutch...

  • Linux on Tecra 8100

I just installed Kubuntu Linux on my Tecra 8100 500 MHz. I ran the Live CD for compatibility, and everything seemed OK although "very slow - poss. combination of cpu speed and CD reading speed."

In any case, I partitioned the drive with 2 GB for /, 256 MB for /swap and the rest for/Home (6 GB). The / partition could no doubt be bigger that I have 356 MB of free space.

I can say that everything has been recognized including PCMCIA network card. It starts in KDE with a screen resolution of 1024 x 768, and I can connect to the Internet via eth0. Shared Samba on my main desktop PC are available.

I intend to use the laptop for the purpose of demonstration to customers (websites). I'll probably add other software, but have not yet tried follower. So far so good.

    Hi Mike

Thanks for the posting. The problem is that Linux is not supported, and each user is alone. If you want to check out Linux forum here and you will find some useful links for the use of Linux on Toshiba laptops.

    Hello

RAM module original for your unit's PC100, but as far as I know you can also use PC 133. To avoid any problems. We can just have a problem if you use 100 PC unit which has a RAM PC133 memory.

  • Tecra 8100 problem after BIOS update

    Greetings
    I have a tecra 8100, 700 mhz with 256RAM,.
and it works a treat, until I decided to update the BIOS, the date of the previous version was 1999!

As I run an OS linux on this unit, I downloaded a version of the Bios boot image and loaded on startup, it reported the success of the update.

My problem now is that the system starts fine but extremely short slow,.
It takes 15 minutes to start and is virtually unusable.

I ran several tests of comparative analysis and tests of memory of Hiram boot CD and the only problem in the report was my 700 CPU running at 114.82. And of couse running, the CPU runs at 100%.

I deleted the cmos data and be restarted using the default BIOS settings.
Long searched the net and cannot find an answer.

    Help, please.

    Hello

I visited the European driver of Toshiba page and found the latest version of BIOS that is 2, 50 - WIN.
    Do you use it?

The BIOS can be updated only run under windows! That's why I m surprised that you were able to update the BIOS, the Linux operating system running on this computer.

Try to download the most recent BIOS version and update as described on the help page of the BIOS update.

  • 20 GB of HDD is not recognized by Tecra 8100

    Hello
I just got this laptop Tecra 8100 and I am trying to upgrade its 12 GB with a 20 GB hard drive, a. I formatted the drive of 20 GB of my office using a portable USB Caddy before putting it in the laptop.
When I boot up to install XP, and before she starts copying the installation files, it will give an error message telling me that no player has been found and restart.

Any idea how do I get the new drive recognized?

    Thank you

    Hello

I discovered that Tecra 8100 supports only the 6 GB (9.5 mm thick), 12 GB (9.5 mm thick) and 18 GB hard drives (12.7 mm thick).
It seems that the 20 GB HARD drive is too big and so the BIOS does not recognize the HARD drive and you can not install the operating system.

Unfortunately, there is nothing to see.

PS: You can try to update the BISO but I put t I think this will help.

  • Tecra 8100 running in 51 MHz FSB

I use a Tecra 8100, PIII 600 MHz, 256 MB with Windows 2000. It seems to be too slow. So I used CrystalCPUID for more information about the system. It shows a cuurent Speed 301 MHz CPU and a 51 MHz instead of 100 MHz (FSB) system clock. How can I set the system up to 100 MHz (FSB) clock?

I think that the current settings in the BIOS for CPU LOW speed and optimized battery. Check this.

  • Tecra 8100 - no sound except in mic!

    I have a Tecra 8100 Windows XP.

I can't get sound on the speakers or the headphones emitted by the computer, such as beeps, CD, etc. But if I have to reactivate the microphone, I can hear through the headset, ensure that the microphone picks up (there are a few comments without microphones, proving that the speakers work physically). All volume controls are the maximum and reactivated. All devices are enabled and correctly selected in sound control panels.

Any help would be welcome! Is the sound card, or am I missing a driver? Could not find anything else on the web with similar symptoms. Thanks in advance.

    Hello

A good questions and I never heard of this topic which s...

I think the fist, you should start to update the audio driver of your laptop. Therefore, you can see the Toshiba site for an update:
    http://EU.computers.Toshiba-Europe.com-online decision-making supported Downloads & => Download drivers

Before installing the latest version, you must remove the old version first and reboot the laptop.

Maybe a reinstall of Windows with the Toshiba recovery disc could also be useful and in the worst case, it s only a hardware malfunction and it must swap the motherboard. :(

    Welcome them

  • Tecra 8100 - CPU max, DVD - ROM and BIOS update issues

    1. I have a 500 MHz processor on my 8100. I would like to upgrade to maximum capacity. I think it's 800 MHz since it is the highest, the series went to.
But if it's 800 MHz, any Mobile PIII on this frequency do? Or should I check for special settings of the processor?

    2. I don't have a floppy, or ways to get drive one. And I'm not going to ebay one just for an update of the BIOS. Any ideas? A bootable CD with the files will do?

    3. What is the location of the DVD-ROM and what alternative models can I use? The 8200 went up to 8 x DVD - RW. Could I go further?

Thank you. I hope that my post is OK like this instead of three different positions.

1 take a look at the other Tecra 8100 models to determine which processors are compatible.

    2. I don't think that would work a bootable CD, you must follow a special procedure to update the BIOS and requires a floppy drive. If there is a version of Windows, you must use that instead.

3 upgrade the DVD player can be difficult because you must use the correct master/slave settings, and it must have the same design of the façade of the original.

Personally, I'm selling the laptop and buy a second hand faster one. It can work out to be cheaper.

  • Tecra 8100: Video-playing DVDs only with jerking / glisten under W2K

    I can't play a normal DVD on my Tecra 8100 (P3 600 MHz, 256 MB RAM, Windows 2000 with SP4)
without convulsions. Already have try to copy the image of the DVD on the HARD drive and play directly from the
HDD - same result. Therefore, it is NOT a problem with the DVD drive, may be a problem
    with the S3 S3 Savage/MX VGA-Cardinal display driver integrated V installed 5.12.1.7002.
Tested with PowerDVD 6 and VLC media player. Any special DVD playback software for the
8100 available? Please help, try several hours to solve this problem, already
    talk with toshiba customer service!

    Hello

Well, the Tecra 8100 is not a high-performance notebook and maybe it is not generally possible to watch DVDs jerking-free s.

But I think you should check several parameters before we abandon ;)
In order to check if DMA and not PIO mode is available and updated on the IDE controllers.

Check if you have installed the latest version of DirectX.
You said that you are using the latest version of the graphics driver. Well perhaps you will check this site:
    http://www.S3graphics.com/en/resources/drivers/legacy/software_archive.jsp#id_290298drv

Also check if the installation of some codex will help you:

The Nimo Codec Pack is a nice collection

  • Upgrading processor on Tecra 8100

Does anyone know if it is possible to use a Pentium 4 in a Tecra 8100? Are there any that will fit the connector and the motherboard will be able to cope?

    Hello

Don t think you will be able to update the machine with a Pentium 4 CPU.
The computer is equipped with an Intel? Mobile Pentium? III processor and it has three speeds of operation as follows:
    450 MHz
    500 MHz

It seems that this is a limit.

  • Tecra 8100 seeing all installed memory

I'm working on a Tecra 8100 laptop for a friend. Machine does not seem to recognize the memory installed in location B at all. Is there something in the BIOS to force her to perform a new analysis or I'm just looking at a broken slot? Everything seems OK visually and clips seem sound.

    I agree with Feliks;
Module of RAM or housing could be faulty.
You should try the RAM module in A slot in order to check the functionality.
If the same RAM would work in the slot, but not in the B slot then I guess the slot B is damage.

  • Tecra 8100, upgrading the BIOS, whitch that hard drive is taken in charge (40 GB)?

    Hallo,

I have an old Tecra 8100 one I want to update BIOS. Who knows who is supported (20 GB, 40 GB) hard drive and where can I find the specifications?

    Thanks for your information.

    Georg

    Hello

As I m wrong not the Tecra 8100 does support an IDE HDD controller.
In this case, it should be possible to use the 2.5 IDE HDD.

I can't say much about the formats supported, but the fact is that the size of HDD supported depends on the HARD disk controller. The old controllers IDE up to what the ATA - 5 (also called Ultra ATA/66 or Ultra DMA/66) supported LBA 28 bits, which allows you to use the 120 GB HARD drive max.

Since ATA - 6 (also called Ultra DMA mode 5 or Ultra-ATA100), you can use IDE hard drives of more than 128GB.

So if you want to, you can check your IDE HDD controller using a hardware diagnostic tool (IE Everest home edition). Then you might find out what IDE controller is and what drives are supported.

    See you soon

  • Tecra 8100 hangs after startup

    Hello
My Tecra 8100 has the same problem as described some time ago: the memory locations of MB were broken and doesn't have a connection properly. Even when I put paper or anything else between the cover and the memory module, it did not work and often my laptop has not yet started.

I bought the new MB and now the laptop still start (I can see BIOS etc.) BUT crashes after Windows XP logo with notice: windows cannot start because the pci.sys file is damaged... The names of 'corrupt' are different, not only from pci.sys.

When I portable computer boot from CD Win (to save the system) it blocks (crashes after 2-3 minutes). I tried to boot from Ultimate Boot Cd to detect the problem, but I can't do anything - always crashes after a short period of time - never start to run tests or Tools CD.

I think that there is a problem of memory - I have 2 modules Kingston KTT-SO100/256, I tried to place them in different locations, together and alone, but nothing changes.
These modules have worked with my old MB all the time.

    Any ideas?
    Radek

I read on other forums that this error can appear if the modules of memory are corrupt or not compatible or the memory on the motherboard slot is faulty.

Well, you have replaced the Board but do you use 100% identical to that of first?
Perhaps modules of memory are not compatible with the new Board of Directors.
