• New on Foglight - better statistics for the dashboard alerts

  I would like to delete alerts of history that really make sense to keep such as a user having connection problems.  However, I would like to personalize history such as keep statistics for CPU, memory, disk usage.  I called quest and opened a ticket that they responded that they do not support this type of customization.  We bought Foglight to make the area more transparent DBA which means other groups will be watching the dashboards, for once that we recognize and disable alerts/alarms, I want these numbers to go.  Is there a way to do this?

  Hi Carolyn-

  First of all, welcome to our Community Site and Foglight.

  There are a couple things to point out on top:

  1. the alarm has a dashboard filter that you can assign only to view the current alarms or show historical alarms (e.g. alarms that have been deleted or that have taken place in the past). So, you can use this to set how you want old alarms to be displayed, and remove those that you don't care.

  2. If you really want to * remove * old alarms of the Foglight repository, you can do it too, but note if you do that they will not

  be available for display, and they will not be able to be used when we want to establish a correlation between a current alarm (for example when this type of alarm occurred before). Is actually deleting old alarms of the repository of something you want to do?

  3. Note that the * data * keeps Foglight can also be customized. If you look at the Administration-> data-> manage retention policies you

  can set policies on how long Foglight retains certain types of data and how Foglight roll (e.g. aggregates) data points while they age over time.

  If you look at Management Server-> servers-> data management, you will see the current * global * applied to all data entered data retention policy. You can customize this type of data in the view to manage retention policies.

• How can I navigate to a new page when after - submit proc process running

  I have a lengthy procedure and would like to provide users with an animated gif to indicate the progression that updates a line of description to indicate the current step in the process.
  
  Currently, I have a few pages to this application which is called a stored procedure in a package that performs a long-term process that updates the progress of a table. These processes have a single parameter argument. In this case I call the procedure via the Task Scheduler as part of my process of the after Submit and page navigation Jump to another page that shows a graphical representation of the % complete based on the progress updates in the table and refreshes every 5 seconds until the work is finished. It works very well.
  
  I use now on an issue where I have a whole more complex process, with a number of parameters. To solve this problem I used the same process above, however, I have everything first to check to see if the process exists in the Task Scheduler, otherwise I create. Then, I put all the settings and tell the Task Scheduler to run the procedure. This should work as for the process, that I am running on other pages, however, on this page where I have several parameters and send a command execute rather than an immediate execution on the creation of jobs, the system runs all the work before executing the part of the page, so the end user is stuck on a page of hanging with no feedback user two minutes after pressing send.
  
  I'm looking for how to call the procedure and branch run so a progress screen is visible. I'm not committed to using Task Scheduler, if there is a better way.
  
  Any help is greatly appreciated.

  I'm new to Foglight. Currently, I have included in databases Oracle Foglight 5 of which 4 are in cars and a single stand alone on other instances of SQL Server side 8. Every day I get more than 10,000 alarms of critical alarms and warnings. I would like to make a paragraph tunning rules and Notifications only displayed important alerts. Is there any document for this?

  While some rules indicate bigger problems than others, all out-of-the-box rules have value. There is no list of rules which is recommended to be disabled or changed to make more effective warning system.

  If your environment is triggering alerts more you can process at the present time, the best advice I can offer is to turn off all rules that are not associated with alerts that you feel 'important '. Once you have addressed important issues, you can reactivate other rules so that you can improve the health of your databases. Please report if you have any questions about the specific alerts or rules.

  I also recommend that you post the Foglight communityfollow-up messages, as this vFoglight forum focuses on control of virtualization.

• Foglight alarms automatically erase themselves?

  I'm new to Foglight and I have a general question.

  Foglight alarms disappear automatically themselves once a problem is solved?

  For example, if I get an alarm saying that the memory usage is high on a server and I'm going in and kill a process on this server to lower it, will get deleted automatically alarm or do I still go and delete it?

  Multi-gravite rules generate alerts that will be automatically clear if the State goes away and the State of gravity goes back to normal. Also, the severities change automatically if an alarm has reached another gravity as an alarm becoming a fatal alarm.

  Simple rules such as the rules for the LogFilter agent will not automatically clear.

• Foglight - utility Agent AppMonitor

  Thus on the horizon is a MASSIF of Foglight deployment. I need to get 100 + environments and utilities networks monitored.

  I just re - start the launch phase of the project.

  One thing that we look at a number of demons and process in all of our dev evionments. I would normally have this with the App_monitor agent. But I would prefer NOT to deploy legacy agents. Is there an ETA on migration to the EGG?

  We plan to have the Appmonitor cartridge replaced by a new version which uses data from process cartridge agent Infrastructure in our major release of end of 2013. As Mike Reys, already mentioned, we do not currently collect all necessary data in the process, but we do not have a user interface to configure settings of style Apmmonitor (choose the process and display specific data for them), and we do not yet have alarms either.

  In the next 5.6.7 version of the cartridge of the Infrastructure, we however add an extra dashboard, allowing you to investigate the process information. The dashboards of the process that provides a summary of the CPU and the memory usage by process, as well as a picture of the details of the process will be available as an exploration of the dashboard Infrastructure environment. When a specific host is selected, the dashboard is available if a CPU usage by process or memory usage by process link under graphics of the use of the corresponding resources.

  Maybe this new dashboard will be of value in what you're trying to accomplish, or at least partially help you for now. It is also relatively simple to add a rule that checks the CPU usage or the process memory and alarm on it. The data is stored in the HostProcess object.

  5.6.7 IC should be available in the coming weeks.

• Migration of the Foglight environments

  Afternoon,

  We are in the process of establishing a new environment Foglight to merge our 3 existing configurations.

  Currently, we have:

  2 servers in HA Foglight 4.x running

  2 physical servers in HA running Foglight 5.5.5

  2 VM HA servers running Foglight 5.5.5

  We have just installed 2 new VM servers running 64 bit 2008 rc2 with 8 GB of ram to monitor the end everything.

  The installation of the new system went well and the new foglight environment is in place and works and we followed him themselves through the cartridge of the os currently.

  Now, we must come up with a migration to start plan to move their follow-up out of the systems to decomission.

  anyone has the tips/advice/previous epxereince of migration / departure more and how to maintain monitoring scripts and custom etc, when travel agents 1 environment to another?

  (1) graduation: VMs how are you trying to monitor?  8 GB of RAM is a VERY small environment.  The number of clusters allocated?

  (2) persistence of the old data: how much time do you have old data to be available?

  (3) download and install the FGLIDE, it will make your life much better.

• Foglight Backup/DR

  CentOS 5.5 x 64

  I have until tomorrow afternoon to have fully documented (and tested!) a Foglight backup and DR process. The honest answer is I'm doing monthly running a mysql hot backup and save it on a NAS. I never even tested it. So it's probably a good idea.

  Here is my understanding of the process-

  FMS-

  I should backup, tar/zip the folder of the application to the media.

  To recover, "détarer" on the new server with the same name of host/IP address and replace the init.d files

  MySQL

  Backup, just run a normal backup of MySQL.

  To restore, reinstall the same version of mysql on a box with the same host/IP name and restore the database from backup.

  Any other input here?

  Do google on mysql (sqldump) export.

  You can export it to from your current database and import it to the new MySQL instance.

• TB update fails and I get an error of access denied to 7 - Zip when you download a new version.

  Thunderbird was not able to update from version 24.6.0 (under Windows 7). Whenever I try to auto update, it tells me that the update fails. When I let the updater download a full version, which also fails. When I try to download a new version manually, during the extraction process, I get an error message indicating "7-Zip" up and "Access denied" in the window. I followed all the suggestions to the support download error page (as an administrator, stop the process of Thunderbird, etc.), and none of them solved the problem. Any other ideas?

  What firewall / anti-virus software you are using. My guess is that the firewall or the anti virus software blocks both the update and full installation because it contains ZIP files. I have not heard that outside the paranoid company / parameters of business in the past, but there's always a first time.

• Dangerous change in the approval process for iBooks

  you remember long time for approval of new iBooks users author books that publish their books on the iBook Store since the beginning. Originally, it was WEEKS, sometimes even months to get through the approval process. • Unable to connect TV to new router

  KDL-46HX820. In the process of setting up the TV, I properly connected by Wi - Fi on my router Linksys Valet Wi - Fi. Later, I replaced this router with a Linksys E4200.   Try to assign a static IP address for your TV. First of all, you need to find the address of the gateway of your wireless device. In a computer that is connected to your wireless network, you can open a command prompt window (start - run - cmd) and type ipconfig. This will give you the address of the gateway (for ex: 178.152.1.1)

  Then go to the TV and go through the configuration of the network (wireless).
  When you configure IP address and proxy, choose (custom instead of Auto).

  Then proceed as follows:
  IP address: 178.152.1.15
  Address of subnet 255.255.255.0
  Default gateway 178.152.1.1
  Primary DNS 8.8.8.8
  Secondary DNS 4.2.2.2

  Note that the IP address and default gateway is the same as your gateway address you got from the computer except the last figure of the IP address.

• Decommissioning of El Capitan on new Macbook retina

  The problem: I bought a new Macbook the retina mainly for music production. Unfortunately, none of my previous music software is compatible with El Capitan, which is more than a little frustrating and in many ways makes the useless computer to its destination.

  I am aware that it is possible to downgrade to El Capitan in Yosemite, but I was wondering if you are able to do this on a brand new Mac retina without complications? Whether any new change something here? The process seems quite technical and I'm not very technically savy, so I don't want to end up ruining my computer.

• New Satellite L650-108 HARD drive died

  Two months ago, I bought the laptop mentioned above and while using a few days ago, he went suddenly slow and crashed with a blue screen error. He said he would restart and when he did, he couldn't find the hard drive. I was in the BIOS and it is not listed there, I tried it on another laptop and it didn't work, I tried to put in a basket and that has not worked and I tried a few CD bootable (including Ubuntu Live) and none of them could see the HARD drive. Are there alternative methods that I could use to try to repair?

  For me its very clear number and don t think you need other methods to check the HARD drive.
  If the HARD drive is not in the BIOS, this means that the HARD drive is dead and must be replaced.

  The laptop is under warranty so get in touch with Toshiba ASP (authorized service provider), your country, to get the new HARD drive.

  Yes, you can as long as you understand that you will lose everything that is currently on the phone.

  (1) settings > General > reset > erase content and settings

  That will make the iPhone as new.  Then, during the installation process it again once will ask you if you want to restore from an existing backup.  You can then restore the scheduled backup.
