New OS displays cannot see the virtual disk drive

I am creating a new of Windows XP virtual machine on a standalone ESX Server using local storage.  After crossing the start of initial installation and learn how to "To install windows press" the next screen says

«the installation program found no hard disk units installed in your computer»

I read in a few places this may be due to the poor selection of bus or logic LSI logic when creating the virtual machine, but I tried them both and they both have the same error.

Is it possible that the problem is the installation media that I use?  Other Installtion disks seem to find storage that I installed a 2003 server.

Yep for XP, you must:

VM-> change settings-> disk-> existing Floppy image in the data store-> Browse-> vmimages-> disk-> vmiscsi *.flp

  • cannot resize the virtual disk (vmdk) after successful hyper-v conversion

    Hello

We are experiencing an environment vSphere 4.1. I have a problem on the Ramdisk resizing.

We had managed to convert a hyper v VM. Virtual machine operating system is Windows 2008.

After that, I can't resize the virtual disk (GB in disk options was gray-ed out, even when the virtual machine is power down)

    It's strange

I have attached several screenshot of the virtual machine.

    Need your advice.

    Thank you

His grace is on the IDE interface and you can not resize. the only way is to reclone using vmware converter and resize in the wizard. For more information: http://www.yellow-bricks.com/2010/05/28/resizing-your-ide-virtual-harddisk/

  • Cannot resize the virtual disk, the virtual machine by using a «child» vmdk file

    Release: VMWare workstation 9

    SE host: Windows 7 64-bit

    Screenshots below.

I want to resize my VM from 50 GB to 100 GB.

It seems that VMware workstation 9 uses a child for my VM vmdk.  In my case, using its "Windows Server 2008 R2 x 64 - 000001.vmdk" for its virtual disk file.  The correct file should be "Windows Server 2008 R2 x64.vmdk", I think.

There are currently no snapshots registered for this virtual machine, I see.

The virtual machine works well as is, but I can't resize the disk without the VMWare gui, saying I should be perform the operation on the parent vmdk file.

It seems that I do run a snapshot that is not really a snapshot?  How to merge with the older files - Sxx.vmdk to 0000xx - Sxxx.vmdk

I also tried to use the command line tool to manually resize the vmdk parent, but I get permission "access denied" errors.

    Kind regards

    Matt

He no snapshots are displayed in the Manager of snapshot with the check box 'Show AutoProtect snapshots' verified then the snapshot is an orphan and the best way I use normally to fix this if I want the contents of the snapshot of orphan to be among the basic disk is with tab of the virtual machine in VMware Workstation GUI closed I simply delete the .vmsd file and then open the virtual machine tab in the VMware Workstation GUI and cover and immediately remove a snapshot in the Snapshot Manager.  This will force the orphan snapshot to merge with the parent disk.  Then to clean I still remove the .vmsd file and orphans, .vmsn and .vmem file.

Note: Before the procedure you have a good backup of the virtual machine in case you accidentally mess something up.

  • Program windows not fully displayed - cannot see the buttons

    Problem:

    1. After selecting the program HP PC Recovery CD/DVD Creator, the Welcome window appears but is not displayed entirely.  The portions and right at the bottom of the window are transparent.  I don't see other buttons that I should be able to select.  I also try to use the program end button (red box with white x) located on the top right of the window, and the program will not end.  To close the program, I have to finish the process via the Windows Task Manager.

    2. when the HP automatic update alert window returns to the part at the bottom right of my office, letting me know that updates are available and to ask if I would like to install the updates, the alert window is not completely visible.  I don't see other buttons that I should be able to select.

    3. in both cases (1 and 2), if I place my pointer over the window and select Enter then the program will proceed to the next step.  If a pedagogical (pop-up) window on the top of the main window of the program, I am able to see this pop-up window in its entirety, and then select options as needed.

Question: What is the cause?  How can they be corrected?

Thanks in advance for any input.  Please see information system below.

  • Cannot resize the virtual disk

My vm upgraded allows no expansion vdisk in the pane settings; said must delete all snapshots, yet no old clichés exist. Version 2.0.2 (147997) to run on a MBP 17 "intel 2.16 g.

Based on list stamps and the date/time of file on the files, you have a snapshot in place and you can try to remove it by trying the following with the not suspended, and Virtual Machine within Windows to stop.

Take a snapshot, and then immediately delete the snapshot.

Note: I personally don't do without first making sure that I have all the user data saved from within the Virtual Machine from a store outside of the Virtual Machine and or a manual full copy of all of the Virtual Machine.  Just in case!

  • Cannot see the USB hard drive?

    Hello

I created a new XP Pro VM environment and everything seems great so far, however, one of my devices is an external USB hard drive (this is where lies the VMX file).

Yet I do not see it as a connected device, it is not in the list of devices to be tied down to the machine virtual host?

Why am I unable to see this device USB of the XP Guest VM and how to make it visible?

    Thank you

    1DMF

    1. NOT to assign a USB device to the virtual computer - at least, do NOT attempt to use the disk USB us talk

2 instead of this, make sure that you configure network between the host and guest

    3. create Windows shares on USB drive

    4. access to this sharing of the Interior of the guest

This will result in the host beeing the only system that accesses the USB directly - which is the only safe way to do

  • Disk and the virtual disk drive records corrupted (code 19)

I recently had a virus and it corrupted my drive and drive virtual and perhaps deleted records. I tried all methods on the site of Microsoft Support here and not to have borne fruit. I uninstalled the drivers and quite well done all recommended from the page (except run a fix because it cannot find the driver). I also added new keys in regedit and it has not fixed either. Is it possible to replace records that have been corrupted, or missing, or I'll have to do a wipe or something to fix? Thank you.

Sorry, I don't really know what to do; I guess if you need a tool for editing with screenshots I can do.

You can check the following registry key? :

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\ {4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}

Is there a 'name' UpperFilters and LowerFiltersin the registry for this key, in the right window?

If so, what is 'Data' for these names?

  • Increase the size of the virtual disk drive?

I have a VM machine running server 2003 with 2 drives inside. When I used the converter to make the virtual machine, I made the wrong each player gradually.

I can resize the readers in the virtual machine.

I read somewhere that you can launch VMConverter on the host machine and point it at the machine VM files and create another machine virtual with larger disks. Is this true? If so does anyone have a way too?

    Thank you!

Yes, I believe you can do this with converter.  However, there are times when converter will make unnecessary changes to the virtual machine that will completely ruin.  So be sure that you have a backup before doing any of this!

  • Cannot access the HARD disk drive HARD - Satellite P300 recovery

    Hi all

I want to perform a Toshiba product recovery, using the partition on the HARD disk. I did it before and no problem.

But when I press F8--> computer repair--> selection language--> then I have to select a user (Administrator / my name/guest) when I select the administrator, it says that my account has been disabled, when I select the user with my name (Kenneth) he continues to the menu where I can choose the different options for recovery. If I select the product Toshiba blah blah thingy a screen comes up saying it can't find 01 HARD drive. I did nothing with the partition containing Vista.

My guess is that I need to log in as an administrator, which is impossible. My user account in Vista is a Director,

    Can someone please?

    I use a P300

    Best regards

  • VMDKMounter gets error "could not open the virtual disk.

I have two Win7 x 64 virtual machines running fine with VMware Fusion 4.1.2.  I installed VMDKMounter from VMware 3.1.3 and OSXFuse 2.3.9.  I can ride one of the files hard with VMDKMounter very well, but others told "Cannot open the virtual disk" when I try to mount it.

    8 June 14:43:27 hoth [0 x 0-0xe50e5].com.vmware.vmdkmounter [2394]: could not parse the instant string ' / Users/finchr/Documents/VirtualMachines.localized/hoth.univ.dir.wwu.edu.vmwarevm/hoth.univ.dir.wwu.edu.vmx '. 8 June 14:43:27 hoth [0 x 0-0xe50e5].com.vmware.vmdkmounter [2394]: will not be able to take an informed decision, based on partial information. 8 June 14:43:27 hoth [0 x 0-0xe50e5].com.vmware.vmdkmounter [2394]: mount the drive read-only instead. 8 June 14:43:27 hoth [0 x 0-0xe50e5].com.vmware.vmdkmounter [2394]: failed to open the disc: disc encoding error (261993021117)

The virtual machine that VMDKMounter fails to mount was created by VMware vCenter Converter 5.0 of a physical machine.  The virtual machine that works was created in VMware Fusion 4.

Of course, the hard I really want to ride with VMDKMounter is he who fails.  No idea how to make so that he can get?

Well, I see nothing in the disc DescriptorFile which prevents the hard mounted.

So right now, you can mount other hard files, but not this one, then I have two suggestions...

It would be to use vmware-vdiskmanager to create a new hard that will not go up and the other would create a new empty hard, then add it to a virtual machine, as well as one that will not go up and then start with appropriate optical disk or an ISO Image containing the appropriate tools/utilities in order to image the drive to the new empty.  I usually use Symantec Norton Ghost for operations like this.  Then maybe a new mounts with VMDKMounter.

  • Please help: the virtual disk parent has changed...

After a few days of research about this error, I decided that I had to ask for some evidence of your experts to help me recover from this error.

    Thank you!

It is a small desktop application:

    -Dell T410 esxi Server 5

-a virtual machine, Windows Server 2003 with 2 discs, no fixed size

I was help this office by managing services and updates on this Server 2003.  I ran updates on Friday and restarted.  When he came I open vSphere and found the virtual machine does not.  I tried to start it and got the error.  So, it seems I may have the CID issue that needs to be corrected.

I don't have a direct access to this server so I'm remoting with RDS on 2003 VM server and vSphere on the esxi.  Did I make the right diagnosis and is it possible for me to make the necessary corrections to distance or I need direct access to the server?  Everything I've read has files of people editing CID numbers and it seems that they directly access the esxi server.

    Shows the data store:

The parentCID of the snapshot must match the CID from its parent, as shown in the log file

    "... The content ID mismatch (parentCID f72e60c7! = f05537b3)... »

    Server.VMDK

    CID = f05537b3
    parentCID = ffffffff

    Server - 000001.vmdk

    CID = a2b9ba8b
    parentCID = f72e60c7---> f05537b3

Make sure you change the file on the host using the vi editor or - if you want to change the file in Windows - use an editor who is aware of the line breaks Unix (do not use Notepad!)

Once this is done, I highly recommend that you take another cliché before you on the virtual computer. This prevents existing virtual disk files to be modified, so that you can return to this State where you need. After that everything works as expected, consider deleting all snapshots.

  • After Vista update cannot find the external hard drive, AutoPlay does not work, and new unusable disk appears under my computer

After Vista update cannot find the external hard drive, AutoPlay does not work, and new unusable disk appears under my computer. Also I can't 'manage' my computer because I do not have "permissions". I tried a fix he 45071 and it did nothing.

Applications, (Norton and McAfee) (including free evaluation versions are notorious for not not upgrade (or uninstalling) itself.) If NIS has been installed for 3 years, you have NIS update at least once and maybe twice (e.g., NIS 2009 > NIS 2010 > NIS 2011).

[You may want to print these instructions for reference offline. If a step said to reboot, reboot.]

    1. download the Norton Removal Tool, save it to your desktop: ftp://ftp.symantec.com/public/english_us_canada/removal_tools/Norton_Removal_Tool.exe

    2. close all open applications (that is, anything with an icon on the taskbar).

    3. After completing some you have a copy of your handy product key, uninstall all Norton software (including LiveUpdate and everything Norton Add ons) viaControl Panel | Programs | Uninstall a program (or Control Panel |) Programs and features, if you are using the classic view).

4 IMPORTANT! -Online activate Windows Firewall immediately after the restart.

NB: Now you're "working without a net": no to ANYTHING else online (e.g., navigation, reading e-mail, chat) until you have completed step #7 below!

    5. right click on the file that you saved in step #1 above, and then select run as administrator.  DO TAP not your keyboard until the race ends, then restart.

    6. do a clean install of NIS 2011 (using your product ID, if need be) & reboot. CF. http://www.symantec.com/norton/support/kb/web_view.jsp?wv_type=public_web&docurl=20080514162318EN

NOTE: Do NOT activate or install additional modules of Norton (for example, Norton Anti-Phishing) immediately.

    7. manually and repeatedly run LiveUpdate (Norton) until you get a prompt "no update more".

    8. open Internet Explorer (only) to http://support.microsoft.com/kb/923737 & run the difficulty.

    9. open Internet Explorer (only) to http://support.microsoft.com/kb/971058 & run that set it by DEFAULT and modes and AGGRESSIVE. [1]

  • Cannot issue the open disk

    Hi all

I have ESXi installed on our server. I received a few VM folders with our test WHAT VM inside our office in europe. Using the vSphere Client I downloaded the files for the virtual machine for the farm data store, but when I try to start the virtual machine, I get one:

Cannot open disk ' / vmfs/volumes/xxxxxxxx-xxxxxxxx-xxx-xxxxxxxxxxx/VM_files/BASE_VM_xxxxxxxx/xxxxxxxx/theapparentlymissingfile.vmdk ' or one of the snapshot disks it depends on.
The system cannot find the specified file.

I have gone through the forums here and on Google and tried several of the corrections proposed such as the removal of the. VMDK.lck file. There was another who proposed changing the vmx file and change the name of the file that is the same as the one I had.

The file is there, but for some reason, he doesn't see it. y at - there something I am missing being new to VMware. I have to start from scratch, if I can't get these working locally.

    Thanks in advance

You can download the http://kb.vmware.com/kb/1023856 tool (see "Accessories").

To convert the virtual disk to an ESXi supported format run

    VMware - vdiskmanager.exe - r 'Digipos book PC SP1.vmdk' t 4 "Digipos book PC SP1 - new.vmdk.

then download the two newly created files ("Digipos book PC SP1 - new.vmdk ' and Digipos book PC SP1-new - flat hard') on the ESXi host and change the settings for the virtual machine, i.e. to remove the bad virtual disk and add the right pair.

Please be aware that the resulting virtual disk will have a size of 40GB.

Is there a chance to run ls-lisa from the command line (SSH) in the virtual machine folder and provide the output!

I ask because I'm a little worried about the timestamp of the hard (May 2011). Depending on the size of the files in the snapshot, it seems that the second virtual disk is not really used by the guest operating system and we could come back manually (by editing the .vmx file) on the resized basic disk (100 GB compared to 75 GB for snapshots) without losing important data!

If you want to revert manually,

    • delete the virtual machine of the inventory
    • backup and then edit the .vmx file (replace "WEBPDMAPPD_1 - 000003.vmdk" with "WEBPDMAPPD_1.vmdk")
    • Move 3 snapshots in a directory temporary sub
    • Add the virtual machine to inventory
    • create a new snapshot to prevent the current hard files to be modified
    • Turn on the virtual machine

If everything works as expected, you can delete the snapshot files moved and remove the snapshot created in the Snapshot Manager again.
