No DHCP - DNS VIRUS recovery

I have recently got rid of a nice healthy virus on one of my Clients PC, I don't remember the name of it. But a control of Trojan horse that wouldn't let me run programs and constantly beating me at every turn... so... I ran Kaspersky Rescue disk. got rid of him and then ran AVG just after it. MISSING virus!

now... problem. I can not receive an IP address from the DHCP server and when I have static IP, I can't have a resolution of any DNS server. no problem to ping ANY IP address even the public Ip addresses as ip of yahoo - 67.195.160.76...

I restarted the TCP/IP with the command "netsh int ip reset resetlog.txt".

I also rebooted Winsock with the command "netsh winsock reset."

I also rebooted windows Firewall by following the steps on this link "http://support.microsoft.com/kb/920074/en-us" because I noticed that the firewall services are not started, and I can't start

so I was going to use the repair on the windows XP pro CD nice feature... but... when it tries to start windows I get the blue screen of death with the error "STOP: 0x0000007B" struck me bad drivers of HD said... I install the drivers on the CD and I can not find the DVD ROM USB that I put them outside the internal DVD ROM... as well as all my support I call usually do not respond to it phone... so I'm between a rock and a hard spot...

If anyone has an idea please feel free to help...

Hello

Assuming that the computer is now clean.

With XP, you can do a refresh install without really touching the current applications and data.

Refresh the Installation of XP.

Boot from the original XP CD. Ignore the first screen offers repair of the Console and continue as if you install a new XP.

After accepting etc., the new Setup screen lights up and would detect the current XP installation.

Choose repair by pressing R for repair.

Use it, would take about 45 min. and you will have an all updated XP Installation by keeping all of your data and configuration of XP.

P.S. If you have changed the WinXP security definition (special permission as Firewall), to look on them after the update, because they could go back to the default value.

  • DHCP DNS

    I have WRT54G2 and LAN and Wireless clients. LAN clients get IP routers as DNS server via the routers DHCP server. Wireless clients obtain DNS server of the ISP via the DHCP server even! How is that possible? I don't want any clients to send requests directly to the server DNS of ISP.

    Any suggestions?

    1. the reason for NAT is that your ISP only gives you a single public IP address, but you want to connect multiple computers to the same internet connection. That's why you're generally a NAT router. If your ISP to assign you any number of public IP addresses you want to that you wouldn't need a router because of this. But as far as I know always more ISP only gives you a public IP address by internet connection. This requires a NAT router. But she has actually nothing to do with the way in which a computer in the local network behind the NAT router gets its DNS information.

    2. There is little or no advantage in using a proxy DNS from the router over the use of the server DNS ISP directly, except maybe a slight to put entries speed advantage cached in proxy and a single IP for DNS servers instead of an IP address of the DNS server address that may change at some point Although it rarely happens. The advantage of the cache on the router is limited, too, as these routers are usually very limited and memory would be more important for the translation NAT tables then the DNS caches that could be retrieved from the ISP DNS server as well.

    3. I can't tell how Linksys not their version numbering. I find that on occasion, they change the version number after the initial release. I guess that often the initial version is derived from some other firmware router and then later they change the numbering. Unless there is a real problem there is no need to update the firmware. Given the number of different models, versions of hardware and firmware in different languages for different countries or different regulatory areas, it is not surprising that are some problems on the Web site. Other companies also have this kind of issues. But I have to admit these days, that Linksys has a few more problems, particularly outside the United States

  • Help virus recovery

    Alright. So about two days ago, I followed a link on a website looking for information on a topic, I was doing research for school. After that I followed the link I had messages to appear on my computer saying: I've been infected by a Trojan Virus and I turned off my computer. I turned this back in safe mode and restore my computer to a set of files 3 days before the incident. Once I restarted my computer and the recovery, I found the virus had disappeared, I downloaded anti malware software and made several different analyses with several products to ensure that the virus had disappeared, all mounted with no problems. However, I found some files corrupted, some things need to re-setup and it seems even that my computer can get a bit slower... My question is, recovery to a date earlier than actually rid my computer of viruses? If this is not the case, how I uninstall completely? And should I do / did something different? Any help is greatly appreciated.

    Hello

    Only way to be sure is to a very deep, enough to kill too much control.

    scrutiny and the withdrawal without ending up with a load of spyware programs running

    cause.

    No one program cannot be used to detect and remove any malware. Added that often easy

  • DHCP DNS options

    I have a small office, served by a SA520 and Road Runner cable modem.

    What is the recommended setting for our DNS users?  At the present time our DHCP (via the built-in router DHCP server) passes on its own address as the DHCP server.  Then client machines indicate that the DNS server on 192.168.1.1.  Our WAN config on this router then points to the servers DNS of Road Runner.

    Would it be better performance if we passed the DNS servers of direct Road Runner customers?  Or even open DNS servers of google?  It seems that the performance would be better if they went directly to a DNS server rather than the transmission by proxy through the router.

    Thank you

    DNS is a distributed system for balancing on multiple dns servers.  Basically, the sa520 is a proxy dns cache.  The way it works is:

    client wishes to connect to something (for example,www.cisco.com ).  The customer research in the local dns cache, if it has solved this recently he will use the locally cached IP address to connect.  (faster)

    If the local cache has expired or has no entry for www.cisco.com, the client goes to his server dns (sa520), if the site is cached, SA sends the dns response returned and the customer then goes to the site.  If the site is not cached, the sa520 will go to the resolver (Roadrunner) and dns RR can go to its resolver and the process continues until the dns process gets to a server who knows the .cisco .com.     and www (it could be 3 different servers)

    but, and this is where the local caching comes in to make it faster.  If you have several devices on the network, it is likely, someone has already gone on this site, it is cached locally and the router can return a result not resolve on the internet.

    This is more important with web pages that have multiple http connections on several sites (facebook icons, ads, twitter links, graphics, etc.).

    Local caching puts less load on the Web servers of root, or dns googles.

    for average config, you can point your dns 8.8.8.8 SA520 wan settings (google) and see if its impact on your performance, but it really depends on the combination of dns queries that happens on your network.

    generally local caching on the router pointing to a fast dns is the best combination to reduce DNS querys and traffic, but always respond quickly.

    Note, a lot of questions "slow internet" are really caused by the slow dns resolution (as well as the programming of web pages with 10s or hundreds of links on them.

    It will be useful,

  • SG300 DHCP DNS server secondary Allocation

    I'm not sure that this is possible, but is the DHCP server to assign a secondary DNS server.

    It seems to be an option to place a single DNS entry in.

    I have DHCP configuration to allocate an internet base DNS (DNS Google on 8.8.8.8) so my workstations can access the internet, but I want to allocate a secondary dns for my workstations are aware able to connect to my internal servers through host names.

    Is it possible on the SG300-20 for this

  • Change DNS data recovery device name

    I like a clear designation of all systems that I managed.

    This is why I would like to know, if it is supported to rename "localhost". If so, how?

    Thank you

    André

    I noticed that if you do not have a DNS entry for the host name, then change the host name to localhost.localdom.

    There is a script/opt/vmware/share/vami/vami_set_hostname, that gets run when starts. Does a search of dns rev for the IP as follows:

    Home w 10 t < ip > eth0

    If DNS does not resolve this request for ip address, it sets the hostname to localhost.localdom

    Make sure that your DNS server can resolve the rev (and fwd) entered for this host name lookup

    If you cannot configure your DNS with the name of host/ipaddr of this unit and still want the name to persist, you can try the following steps (note that only is not supported or validated by VMware)-I've tried it in my test environment and it seems to work

    Once you have set to day/etc/hosts, / etc/hostname, sysconfig to your settings

    CD/opt/vmware/share/vami

    CP vami_set_hostname vami_set_hostname.orig

    Put the following 4 lines in comment in vami_set_hostname (from line 54 of file)

    1. $ CP $HOSTFILE

      1. v grep ' ^ 127.0.0.1 "< $"

      .orig .orig > $HOSTFILE

    1. echo "$127.0.0.1 HN. $DN $HN localhost' > > $HOSTFILE

    1. echo "$FQDN" > $HOSTNAMEFILE

    This will ensure that this script does not overwrite the files whenever the device is restarted.

    I have the following in my camera (I don't use DHCP, but have a static ip address setting)

    a. update the file/etc/hosts as you like

    127.0.0.1 localhost

    < ip > < hostname > < FQDN >

    b. update the file/etc/hostname with the FQDN

    c. update the sysconfig to change the following

    Host name = < host name >

    DOMAINNAME = < domain_name >

    d. update the sysconfig to change the following

    DEVICE = eth0

    BOOTPROTO = none

    ONBOOT = yes

    TYPE = Ethernet

    IPADDR = < ip of the device >

    NETMASK = < netmask for device >

    GATEWAY = < gateway ip addr >

    = < Addr broadcast > BROADCAST

  • VPN site to Site, LRT214, Windows network active directory DNS, WINS, and DHCP

    Hi guys

    New to the forum. I'm trying to set up a network between 2 sites (one site to another). Each location has a DC with its own protocol, dhcp, dns and wins on the same domain service. I bought 2 LRT214 to establish the connection between the 2 sites.

    I tried searching, but all results are pretty generic (IE assuming you will use the LRT214 as DNS DHCP etc.).

    I went through the pages of the router configuration, and there are so many options. For my particular configuration objectives, which will be the best way to do this? Open vpn? EasyLink vpn? I think I'd rather do a standard vpn configuration, but then for that I have a lot of questions such as: security methods to use (FROM THE, 3DES, SHA1, MD5, etc.). can I export a cert of AD and import to the router, or export from the router and import to AD?

    I know the questions are in all directions and there is much more that I don't specifically know until I get by configuring this router at both ends. Just trying to come up with an initial plan. I guess someone must have made a similar setup and would like to know what is a good start (maybe less safe to operate), and while I get more familiar and it all worked, start to down to safety.

    Is there maybe a guide who walks through this installation with explanations of each parameter type?

    Sorry for the long post and thanks for any direction.

    I suggest you use the gateway to gateway installation and use all default settings it for this time. To start, you can try this link: http://kb.linksys.com/Linksys/ukp.aspx?vw=1&docid=240cfc1d772642dfad1deb7500a2fa6c_Creating_an_IPSec...
