No ink on a 7280 printer

Long story. Last fall, I got the wireless Photosmart 7280 all-in-one printer. I love its features... BUT

When I installed the printer on my laptop HP dv6736nr under Vista 32 bit, I want to show the printer ink levels. Software gauges indicate that the ink cartridges were almost empty. I have spoken to HP on online help and finally at the printer to Office Max (it was a refurbished model) and got a replacement. It does exactly the same thing - refused to show ink levels. Yet, it wasn't a big deal because he did send that a warning with the cartridges either got low.

But I contacted HP and after several days to talk to several technicians, I was told it was a problem with the way that Vista is designed and Microsoft would give HP the news of BONE necessary to allow the display of the ink levels.

So I swallowed with my computer, until a recent day when I was printing the photos, but it was obvious the cartridges was empty buy was not any message telling me what cartridge. I ended up replacing four cartridges before you get the right - a costly proposal.

I was watching the level indicators of inl not functioning on the screen of the printer itself when it suddenly occurred to me that if the printer does not show levels on its screen that it is not a Vista problem - it is a problem of printer firmware.

HP has sold a lot of the 7280 s. Just wondering if anyone else out there there have been similar problems? Or maybe the reason why I had the problem on two identical printers is that they were "refurbished" models who had been turned back at HP because ink indicators do not work and someone fixed them.

Frustrating - especially when I like the features of the printer.

It worked for me. I found this in the forum (of other printing issues) posted by Gro (search: ink cartridge empty but it isn't) I added text in brackets.

I have a C7280 and he has not seen my ink at all.  I did something similar to what mac since long proposed user but I modified a bit as the process did not work the first time.  With the machine on, I removed all the cartridges.  I then closed it upwards and removed the power cord from the back.  I pressed ok and help buttons while I plugged the cable back in.  hold for a minute the screen cleared.     (be patient, it will take some time, the printer shuts off when the screen is empty)       Then, I replaced all the cartridges and closed the lid.  I turned it on and he knew it is very long initial set up.       (Ignores error codes, wait that the printer stops responding. When your sure it stops, then turn it off using the power button. Turn it back on and it can show the ink levels. If you use wireless, you must give your wireless settings).        Once he went through everything that he finally saw my cartridges.  Good thing too, I was about to throw it out the window of thew!  I hope this helps you.

    It is possible that the print heads have become clogged due to sitting for so long unused.  Try to run the three cycles of cleaning of the Toolbox.  If it does not recover the printhead, then place 1 "of very hot water in a cup and watch the nozzles of cartridge in hot water for about five minutes.  When it comes gently dry the printhead on a wet cloth dry contacts of the cartridge, then reinstall the cartridges in the printer, and try another cleaning cycle.

    The black ink will print on my printer.  I installed new ink and cleaned the print heads.  I did a review of the printer and the ink of color appeared only.  The printer is recognizing the cartridge when I check the ink levels.  The first page after cleaning came out very faint then anything.  At first, I thought that the new black ink cartridge was defective.  So I replaced it with another new - no difference.

    The only change is that I have installed all new cartridges when all printing has become very low.

    Fushing did not work, however, we used a demo on Utube and has not used the distlled water.  That could be the problem. The printer is about 8 years old, we decided to get a new one.  Thank you very much for your help.

    Really? I received a warning of low ink on my printer HP5514 age of 3 year in may 2014. Purchased ink cartridges and the printer does not run out of ink until October 2014! You must be kidding me? I put cartridges in October 2014 and about 2 months ago I get a low ink warning and order more cartridges.

    Here it is November of 2015 and the ink has not yet executed. I'm tired of waiting that these cartridges run out of ink! What's up with that? The cartridges are going on 13 months since replaced. I'm tired of waiting beside this printer ink to run out.   Ink monitor says ink is low... but why the ink last done a long?

    The ink that I use is given to nine ink from a 3rd party. I put the cartridge in and the printer says "Non HP cartridge installed, press OK or cancel. I press OK and the printer works perfect every time.

    So why this ink last more than a year?

    There is no false messages. Just that my 3rd party ink last so long. It's great.

    I saw your post about the problems you are having with your black cartridge and I might have some suggestions that you might try.

    1) are you using genuine HP ink cartridge? HP recommends that you use genuine HP cartridges. HP does not guarantee the quality or reliability of the ink cartridges not HP or full HP ink cartridges. If you don't use a genuine HP ink cartridges, the steps in this post could not solve the problem you experience. We could also see how supplies no HP compared to reloaded cartridges or reconstructed according to the buyers lab report.

    I also see the limited warranty for cartridges HP ink and print heads replaceable by the customer of consumable inkjet HP.

    (2) you mentioned that you had this printer for 3 months - is always the original ink cartridge that came with it? Is is possible that the cartridge is empty, you have tried a new cartridge yet?
