  I'm trying to configure my Linksys WRT54G (v5) as a regular secondary router (turn off wifi) cascading off my another Wifi router that is connected to an internet modem.  I went through the web and found useful points on other areas of the installation program.

  Hi, simon_s_mak. Yes, you can set it to auto DHCP. It wouldn't really matter, since the DHCP capability will be disabled.  Therefore, it will exercise a switch only.

  Hi all

  I've had my router wireless for 3 years now. I recently moved and got my internet all together towards the top. I have not used my router in a year because my former ISP gave me a two in a router. Now that I'm with my current ISP (Time Warner), I just your Basic run of the mill modem. Go ahead, I installed my router, everything goes well. An hour later, I was unable to use internet on my laptop. I checked the connections and everything is properly connected. When I ran the EasyLink Advisor its says no internet connection. I tried to update the firmware to update my drivers. I even tried connecting the router itself using the 192.168.1.1 but without success. I'm at a total loss here, been working on it for 3 days now... any help would be greatly appreciated.

  A little more info: my office is running on Windows XP Service Pack 3

  I have a WRT54G that has worked well for about a year. Last Sunday, I installed a couple of small updates from Microsoft on my main computer (cable via an ethernet cable from the router). At the same time, I installed service pack 3 on my girls (wireless) counter top.

  Since that time, on my three computers wireless I shows the strength of very good signal from the router but no internet connectivity. Internet works fine on the computer by cable.

  I have reset the router, no luck. Updated the firmware, no luck. Released and renewed until the cows came home and still no luck.

  I uninstalled the router of my main computer and reinstalled. During the installation it tells me that the router cannot find the internet even if the computer that works is connected through the router.

  I tried a different router (even part old version) which was a router to work when uninstalled about six months ago. I went through the installation process and it is the same, the router cannot find the internet.

  Is it possible to have two bad routers that the internet can pass through but the router cannot detect?

  At first I thought changing the setting of the Microsoft updates, but I restored my computer to a date before the updates and still have the same problem.

  Well there are some knows the problem with Service Pack 3 from Microsoft with wireless connectivity. You can uninstall SP3 from your computer and it will not solve the problem.

  Hello, I have read some and see that it is a problem common but of are to be decided.

  I have a Lynksys WRT54GS with the latest Firmware update v7.2 27 July 2009 (FW_WRT54GSv7.2_7.2.07.013_EN_20090727)

  I ran 2 desktop computers as well as my DVR security by the security cameras for remote monitoring, also portable hook upward wireless sometimes as well without any problem using this router for over 9 months now with no problems until the last few days... I never log out and leave it on 24/7 for 9 months without problem and now recently I had to pull on the power cord from the back of the router and reconnect it to re power on the router to establish an internet connection.

  Now the last 3 days the router loses its internet connection each monutes a few... hours... the time it disconnects are random moments and I have the programs I need to run all day but can't because the router loses its connections...

  I applied the firmware again... re factory - configure the router... rebooted the computer... tried cloning the MAC address... all seem to be doing nothing... the same problem still exists.

  All of the minutes or hours so it disconnects the interent.

  I ran the office computer directly to the DSL Modem and I'm online very well with a desktop computer without disconnections for hours and hours (18hrs to date is not a problem), so I know this isn't the access provider. I had this problem I believe before with a previous Lynksys router and then bought it and now after this short period it seems to do the same thing again with this one. What a pain in the but.

  What is the IP address, find the modem directly...? Connect the computer directly to the modem and check the ip address? What is the ip address, you get the router...?

  Try the following settings on the router and check the connection...

  -Change the channel to 11-2 wireless, 462 GHz

  -Under the Advance wireless settings tab, change the tag at 50, Fragmentation threshold to 2304, interval RTS threshold to 2304

• WRT54G - Internet connectivity failure - everything seems to work, but not online

  I have a WRT54G V8 router, who is 18 months old. Its used by 3 laptops to connect to the Internet (Wi - Fi all). All 3 laptops unable to connect all of a sudden. Steps are taken to solve the problems, still no luck. Please suggest if something else can be done.

  1. first test was to remove the router and connect a computer directly to the modem via a LAN comcast cable. Internet is available

  I see the excellent signal strength and all laptops can connect to the network, but cannot go online. Google chrome shows a message hosting "solve" until timeout. Laptops show a 192.168.1.XX IP address. 4 ports are also not connect to Internet (mobile one GETS IP address via the ports as well)

  Okey, I finally found the problem. His Modem.

  Router is not able to get the IP address of the modem if the modem is started first and then I plug the internet cable to the router. But if I keep the router and modem connected and then reset the modem while keeping the router powered on, the router receives an IP address.

  And in both cases, if I connect the laptop with the modem directly, computer laptop can connect to the Internet.

  I bought a new router (WRT54G2) thinks that the problem is with the router, and I can reproduce the same behavior with both routers constantly.

  Go ahead and perform a hard reset full and reconfigure the router back to normal.  See if that helps.

  Follow these steps to upgrade the firmware of the device: -.
  Open a page in Internet Explorer browser on a computer hard wired to the router... In the address bar type - 192.168.1.1... Leave name empty username & password admin lowercase usage...

  Click the 'Administration' tab - then click on the 'Upgrade Firmware' under the tab-here, click on 'Browse' and navigate the .bin firmware file and click on "Upgrade"...

  Wait a few seconds until it shows that "the update is successful," after the upgrade of the firmware, click on "Reboot" and you will be returned to the same page OR it will say 'cannot display the Page.

  Now reset your router:

• Not to access Internet using WRT54G Router wireless

I have an old Compaq laptop for a year and am running Windows 7 with a wireless Internet connection through my service provider. I installed the router with no problems and was able to do online with the Wii. However, I am more able to get Internet access on my desk. It shows that my Internet is connected but it displays "no network access.  I had on fine at first, then I went on the 192.168.1.1 site to configure my data.  I changed my time zone and then to secure my connection.  I don't remember the exact option that I chose, but I think it was something like personal WAP2. As soon as I selected the screen has frozen and I can not access this site or access the Internet through the router. If I unplug my Ethernet cable from the router and plug it directly into the pc I get very well online. I know that this router works with a PPPoE connection, because it's what my mother-in-law a. tried to get support from my ISP, but they left open-mouthed via chat.  Can someone help me understand how to get this router to allow me access so I can use office and the Wii?  Thank you.

  Fix it!  I called my local service provider and explains the problem. He had me go in the settings of the router and change the connection between "Connect on Demand ' and 'Keep Alive '.  Everything works fine now.  Thank you!

• WRT54GS2 and Siemens ADSL modem - give up Internet connection

  I have a problem with the internet connection. I have a Win98 Office connected directly to a DSL - SIEMENS Speetstream 4100 modem. This connection works well.

  I had a (old school, blue and black) WRT54G wireless router connected to it which enabled me to use my laptop Windows XP Home. I upgraded the router to a WRT54GS2 so now I lose the internet connection every minute or so while connected through that. The connection between the modem and the router goes down, not connecting to desktop (wireless) or the laptop. And if I switch to the direct connection through modem, I get a solid and reliable connection to the Internet.

  Is there a problem with the ADSL of SIEMENS modem and the Linksys router plays well together?

  I tried ipconfig/release and / renew on my laptop and desktop, I disabled all computers, modem or router and put power back in the right order: Modem, router, desktop and laptop.

  Why the new WRT54GS2 loses internet connectivity when a direct connection through modem loses no connectivity and the former was reliable?

  Your ADSL modem is in Bridge mode. He made the PPPoE connection and then transmits the IP addresses, etc. via DHCP on the connected device. Several people seem to have problems with these modems and different routers.

  I suggest you to that you reconfigure the ADSL modem in full bridge mode (i.e. the modem really works as a simple modem and does not connect to the internet itself). Full bridge mode, you should be able to configure your router with PPPoE and connect directly to the internet. This should work better.

  If the ADSL modem is smart enough it can automatically switch in full bridge mode if you configure the router for PPPoE.

  You should see the difference in the DNS servers that got the router. Half-bridge mode modem ADSL seems to assign its own IP 192.168.0.1 as DNS server address. If you connect directly to your ISP, you should see the IP addresses of the DNS servers of your ISP.

• WRT54G2 - no internet connection

  I have just replaced my WRT54G with a WRT54G2 router.  I used the same settings that were on my WRT54G.  Everything works fine as long as I have the blue cable plugged into my computer and the other end into Port 1 of the router.  As soon as I disconnect the blue wire from my computer, I lose my internet connection.  My computer connects to the router with no problems, I just can't connect to the internet.

  I checked and double checked all the settings on my computer (in network connections) and the configuration of the router (192.168.1.1) page and they are identical.  My settings worked fine on the previous router, but for some reason, I am unable to connect to wireless internet with the new router using the previous settings.

  Any ideas?

  Yes, you are right, reset the router and re-configuration it makes a big difference...
