No. / prohibited sign at startup

Hey all, I have a macbook pro to end of 2011 in which I replaced my hard drive to an SSD and I replaced my optical drive to the original HARD disk. Recently, it has frozen randomly without warning so I forced a stop down. Then, after completing the little chime startup and display the progress bar and the apple logo, a sign of no. / prohibited that you see on the "No smoking" signs came and just stays there. I tried several different startup commands, but nothing really seems to work except for reset RAM (Command-Option-P-R), Manager startup and recovery of OS X. In the Boot Manager and recovery of OS X, my SSD in which ran Yosemite (10.10) shows not even upward. It seems that my SSD has failed, but I don't know because it's only 3-4 since I got it. Any help would be greatly appreciated, thank you.

I've also done manually the alt key recovery mode I saw the recovery partition it and I clicked on recovery mode 10.11.3 after that click apple logo comes up and after loading it again once showed me prohibited sign instead of os x utility. I did everything and worked hard to solve this problem during these two days, but I couldn't solve my spirit is skipped now. Please help me how I can bring life in my macbook again.

Sorry for my English thanks to you all

Everything you described point to a failing HARD drive or possibly a bad SATA cable.  Remove the HARD drive, install it in a well known pen, plug it into the MBP via USB and start the MBP with the OPTION key down.  If the HARD drive icon and the MBP, boots, inner cable is the main suspect.  If it doe does not start the MBP, the HARD drive failed.

    Ciao.

  • prohibitory signs but any withdrawal fine

two days I received the Prohibitory sign up during startup. I searched the forums and googled around, but nobody has presented the same case.

then that prohibitory sign was present, I was able to boot in safe mode, all saved. diskutil showed no problems with the hard disk, except the problem card partition but diskutil has not fixed it.

now, I tried to start in mode single mouser, but received error cache kernel 0 x 6

I started in safe mode, and everything was working fine... decided the formats and wipe everything. but before that, I did diagnostics equipment including the long version, but with no sign of hardware problem.

has decided to format the HD and reinstall el Capitan...

installation was made, started normally, set up my mac as good as new. restarted again to check if everything starts fine, but the prohibitive sign showed once again. Started by external hard drive, and performed first aid and it started again very well.

was the PRAM/NVRAM and reset the SMC but no change.

I don't know what the computer problem, especially that this single user with error cache kernel 0 x 6

More information, five weeks until this problem presents itself, I modified the EFI to start like a black screen with the apple logo instead of the gray, with forum mac-forum/github.

PS I am writing this same MacBook pro mid 2012 which is dealing with prohibitory signs.

Any help would be appreciated... at the present time, the macbook pro is a clean installation with nothing installed on it, including third party software

I would certainly run Apple Hardware Test.  There is a guide here on how to do it.  This error usually indicates a problem with the installation of the system, so I would try to repair the drive once more.

  • Intermittent freeze, to wake up from deep sleep, occasional prohibitory sign at the start

I have a MBP mid-2012. I recently had problems with a sign prohibitive blinking at startup but it would still proceed to start the operating system very well. I recently tried a clean install of El Capitan only to see that the problem was MUCH worse. After several new installs of El Capitan and Yosemite attempted to boot disks as well as on top moved after the recoveries of the internet, I have not solved yet completely the problem. I also tried to reset NVRAM and SMC.

Currently I'm running Yosemite and have restarted, there 3 or 4 times without prohibitive side. I didn't let her go to sleep so I don't know if this problem persists. I always get a casual beach ball, but the computer is still sensitive semi. i.e. finder will be insensitive and programs won't load, but I can still move between open programs. This usually takes between 10 and 30 seconds. Occur less frequently in low demand.

I'm afraid that my hard drive is failing, but I don't have any other evidence to support. I also heard that the sata cable could also be faulty. Is there something else that is maybe I should check/perform before ordering new parts? Is there anyway to check if it is really the reader or cable? The problem is not consistent and hardly repeatable. But it is quite common that I need to fix it. Also would like to have at least the option to upgrade the operating system one day.

    Thank you

You could try the operation of an external device, to see if it could be memory or some other component.

Beyond the diagnoses of Apple, please communicate with the folks at Apple Support or the folks at the local Apple Store Genius Bar and see if they will look at the Mac and you get an estimate of the repair.      Otherwise, you learn how to dismantle and to diagnose and repair...

  • prohibitive gray screen, but the start of the option works

    I have a strange here.

    Early 2011 MBP - OSX 10.10.5.

Everything was fine with the computer, and then all of a sudden the small wheel of death... computer slows down to a stop and then screen black.

At startup - gray screen, blinking prohibitory sign several times and then begins to my second hard drive installed (I replaced the optical drive with a 2nd hard drive just in case something like that happens... more... that uses optical discs still!).

I checked the "Startup disk" options in the preferences, then re-selected my SSD as my default player.

Restart in safe mode... works as expected on the SSD.  Check disk utility, verify and repair permissions, checked the disk and, say, "could not mount the drive" (perhaps something to do with safe mode?).

Restart again normally - prohibitive flashes and then after a few seconds, it starts as normal.  I checked the disk utility again, checked and repaired permissions, disk verified and no problem with the disk on THE.

Stop and try again... lightning prohibitive and then after a few seconds, it starts as normal.  I have reset the SMC and the NVRAM.

Not sure why I get this prohibitive symbol!

I have restart holding 'option', all disks appear (SSD, HDD, recovery), so I click on SSD and it opens fine.

Tips for how to start normally (without the prohibitive sign)?

    Thank you

Start - prohibitory signs when OS X starts

  • Prohibitory sign with a twist

    Hello community,

Since a month or two I feel the prohibitive sign with my macbook pro 13-inch mid 2012. Running on El Capitan 10.11.5

It took about a month to start to repair it because I needed it for work so I kept it running until it got so slow that I had to turn it off.

    Since then, there are some things that happened;

1 tried everything to reset PRAM and safety boots, but there was no way to boot. I didn't have a recent backup so I took the HARD drive and plugged into a SATA to usb adapter and saved some files and I deleted the system Bootcache.Kext file as Apple advises in one of their sons (link on request). After this he worked again, put the disk HARD back in and everything worked... for a few days.

2 he really slow down again. Again, I had to do about it and I just kept it on socket. Slow to get and had to reload, new prohibitory sign. So I repaired disk permissions again and all that. Nothing works, but very sometimes it start after having tried like 20 times to start. But once again his lag, it says its loading for like a minute, and then it works like a charm for a minute.

    3. If last night I deleted everything from the hard drive. He gave a clean install, but he always gave me the prohibitive sign. Even among the boots of the installation (which makes me think its a hardware problem)

    4. now comes the twist. If I unscrew the drive of his carrot and the hold or the lay out of the body, its totally fine and it works like a charm. When I put the HARD drive in the body on the hardware side, it is always very good, but when I put the HARD drive on the side of the body (where is located the small power LED light) it freezes and it does not work with bootups. Even if I start the system with the HARD drive out of the body and its all ready, as soon as I put it in it gives me the Rainbow thing mac loading and everything freezes. When I take it back once again, it takes 10 to 15 seconds and it works like a charm again.

    What is going on?

Anyone had this before please let me know!

    Tim

There was a wave of bad SATA cables in your MacBook. You should consider a replacement.

    Hi all
I finally got that it works, and that a single push.

First of all, I uninstalled all drivers for my TV card in Device Manager. I had to do this several times, as he kept drivers already installed conclusion, but finally there lack of pilots.

    -Reboot
-J' pressed F8 during boot and selected "disable driver signing" at startup.
-Once Windows 7 has been started, I installed the drivers Beta 64-bit listed above.
(I didn't understand how automatic default to F8 and 'Disable driver signing', always looking at this information, my plan is not to restart very often at the moment.)
-Then, I scanned for TV stations, technnicaly my adapter showed as two adapters, said the Media Center window to search for the two adapters and found all my ClearQAM channels.

I have installation check, I'll see how it works, but so far, Windows Media Center looks really sweet.

I hope this helps others, I know that I spent many hours to find it.

    Hello Bob Zientak,.

If a password is required to log on your system, then you won't be able to cirumvent it. Unfortunately the users of this forum are also not allowed to suggest ways to help you bypass (hack) the password (3668Microsoft Terms and Conditions).

Remember passwords are case sensitive so maybe that you type a password in the case of bad? Did you create a password recovery disk when you created your password first? If Yes, then you must insert the password recovery disk to allow you to change the current password. If you did not create a password recovery disk then the next and more radical, opion is to re - install Windows.
