No startup chimes
My new iMac has no start-up chimes... is it broken already?
I always learned that the chime indicates a Mac work.

Terminal to disable startup chime
I want to stop the startup chime and the normal terminal script, (sudo nvram SystemAudioVolume = 80%) "does not work because of a password problem.
After you enter the script Terminal asks for my password. I provide the password and terminal says "command not found". Naturally, I assume that the password is incorrect, but it is the same password that opens the permissions and is used for the administrator account ID.
In fact, I created a new master password for the computer through Permission > File Vault. (File Vault is turned off). However, Terminal always reports "command not found". !
A Unix guru can tell me how to get rid of this annoying chime, perhaps including a reset command Admin password?

3 beeps after startup chime then nothing
Hello
My iMac intel (2011) was working fine earlier today. Then I came back to find it on the gray screen with the apple logo. I tried to restart it, and it became stuck on the gray screen with three loud beeps, after initial startup Gong.
I tried resetting the PRAM, re-sitting my RAM (it's the RAM of origin). It does not start in safe mode.
I used the built-in Apple hardware test and it has detected an error with the following message:
4MOT/4/40000003: DRIVE HARD-1268
I ran the test again and got the same message error but with 1283 rather than 1268. Is it a hard drive failure?
Any ideas how to proceed? Thank you.
The error is specifically for the hard drive fan motor, but as the fan is controlled by a circuit in the HDD it is more than likely a failure of the hard drive. I saw most of the errors 4mot have had a faulty hard drive.

Google Drive sometimes starts at startup
Sometimes Google Drive begins when that I start my Mac. I can not understand why there no reason does not. The option to start on the book in Google Drive preferences is unchecked.
When I look at my marketing of open items, it isn't here.
No matter that it is a problem of Google Reader, I am concerned about the Mac OS allowing software at startup when it does not show in the connection points.
I contacted Apple Support and after that they told me to hold the SHIFT key when you log into my system (it does not help), they refused to me more help.
Is there a way to understand this and to stop it?
If the problem is still there, try to start safe mode using your usual account. Disconnect all devices except those necessary for the test. Shut down the computer and then put it up after a 10 second wait. Immediately after hearing the startup chime, hold down the SHIFT key and continue to hold it until the gray Apple icon and a progress bar appear. Startup is considerably slower than normal. This will reset some caches, forces a check for directory and disables all start-up and connection, among other things. When you restart normally, the initial restart may be slower than normal. If the system is operating normally, there may be 3rd party applications that pose a problem. Try to delete/disable the third-party applications after a reboot using the UN-Installer. For each disable/remove, you need to restart if you do them all at once.
Start Mode without failure-El Capitan.
If it works in safe mode, try to run this program when it is started normally, copy and paste the result in a response. The program was created by Etresoft, a regular contributor. programs not opening on startup?
at startup, the following programs still open: Messaging, photoshop, illustrator, indesign, spotify.
However, this morning, he decided to open only spotify. and at startup, the imac emitted noise strong "awakening to the top", which he never does.
I haven't changed all parameters - so I'm just confused why he behaves like that.
any ideas appreciated...
FWIW, you should hear the startup chime whenever you start unless something is broken.
In regard to applications starting at startup, the "reopening windows when you connect in" should be checked when you stop and, of course, you can't leave programs first.

MacBook Pro-life extendable start-up chime, but does not start
I have a start 2011 15 "MBPro8, 2
Quad Core Intel Core i7
2.30 GHz
Boot ROM version: MBP81.88Z.0047.B2A.1506082204
Intel HD Graphics 3000 VRAM:512 MB
AMD Radeon HD 6750M VRAM:1 GB
8 GB of RAM 1333 MHz DIMM0
It will not start. Trying to start the machine, it enters a loop-
1. startup chime
2. grey screen with Apple
3. the small wheel starts to turn under the Apple
4. the screen goes black
... and the cycle starts over.
The computer does not start in Mode safe. In an attempt to safe mode the loop above has the addition:
3. a progress bar is displayed but does not progress.
I have reset the PRAM
It will start up in target Mode, so I was able to recover data
In target Mode, I was able to run first aid utility on the drive. This has not fixed the problem.
I can hold down the Option key and see Macintosh HD and the recovery Partition. If I try to boot from the recovery partition, I get the same loop.
I can start in the Test of online material, which revealed no material problems
I can boot in Verbose mode and it always happens in the same place
Execution fsck_hfs (version 226.1.1 of hfs)
BootCacheControl: cannot open /var/db/BootCache.playlist: 2 no such file or directory
' ' It would be possible for me to insert the "var/db/BootCache.playlist" file using target disk mode?
Other thoughts?

Kernel Panic + no = RAM Startups don't have the culprit?
Hello world
I'm just putting this here so I can get advice from the community on the cause of a recent kernel panic.
About two days ago using my mac until I'm the standard "kernel panic" message.
After that the machine would not start to OS X or Bootcamp.
Give Apple Support a call in my country, to see if they could help, they suggested predictibly holding the mac of my service provider local mac (which I'm sorry to say it is hopeless).
My first thought was the logic board was dead, whenever I pressed the power button the machine would not give a startup chime, the map graphic would not communicate with the display, literally, the only thing that seemed to work was the fans.
I am the party for about 24 hours and came to him, this time, I noticed a diagnostic LED on the logic board was red, I Googled it told the LED must be switched off during normal operation and only lights up in case of a hardware error. The LED seems to indicate an error with the processor.
The next step, I tried removed all devices (no improvement)
The next step, remove the upper part of the two cards RAM; When I removed the card and tried to start the machine without the installed card slightly improved machine, giving a startup chime. Still no display or any other response from the computer.
Here's what I did then:
1. I tried to remove the last pair of RAM I have installed (I installed it only last year), this is the machine starts and the diagnostic LED on the motherboard remained OFF.
2. when I reinstalled the RAM the machine went back to not start when turned on.
3. then I tried rearranging the RAM so the suspect DIMM was on the lower riser card, remained light and the machine could not be started.
4. remove the suspect RAM has allowed me to start once more, and given that the memory has been deleted the machine seems to work very well.
I called Apple Support and said about what I had done, they seemed to think what I thought, which was 'Defective or broken RAM'; They suggested that I run the machine for a few days see if I get any errors/panic more with RAM on.
While I was on the phone with Apple I ran the Apple Hardware Test, he returned "without problems."
If fortunately I have a working machine once again, my question to the community is the following:
This sounds like a logical error processor or RAM? -I hope it's just RAM failed, it is easy to replace, however, a panel of logic or processor is almost impossible to replace with a machine as old as mine.
Thanks for any advice. I intend to run a test of 'extended' material now.

MacBook 13 "mid-2007 - startup white screen error
So I have a white MacBook, 13 ' mid-2007, with 500 GB HARD drive, processor Core Duo (not Core 2 Duo) and 2 GB of ram, and it has a problem. Then, one day I was in front of the thing the House of my friend and jumped out. Flipped the lid and the MacBook was closed. Weird. I used it just before loading a Word document before my departure. I pressed the power button, and I heard the startup chime classic. Then I heard something not so classic. "Click-click! Click-click! "I think," what in sam *? "as the white screen appears and seems to never end. Just the white screen and the snap of what I assumes that the hard drive. Nothing works. The strange thing is, its JUST a white screen. No Apple Logo, no folder with a question mark, no crossroads, not just white. Even more strange thing, is, he does not meet the startup commands, such as holding the C, alt, command-R, etc., except the eject button. It could eject discs. I tried everything to get the thing to start SOMETHING, with a Recovery Mode, OS X installation disc, a USB that came with my MacBook Air, which contains the operating system it is running, the OS X 10.7, Lion. I even went all try to install Ubuntu on the thing, with a disk I burned, but that's when things got really climb. The wisest eject button work anymore and now the disc is stick in there. Couldn't get anything out. Nothing. Just click-click and the white screen of death.
Oh and by the way, I could possibly recovering my data from the hard drive? It would be great. I worked with this computer. =)

Hello, everyone.
I recently got a new 12 inch Macbook (early 2015). Up to now, every time I have connected with the charging cable for it to charge it would make this carillon which is made also on iPhone and iPad. However, two days ago, when I put it to charge, it would not do the sound of the chime. The volume is up.
I'm starting to be scared because it might be a problem with the speakers.
Thank you very much!!
There is a startup chime when you feed first on the Macbook. But I never heard on a chime when just plug the magsafe power cord. She also starts up when you do this? If you can play the music in Itunes and hear the speakers are fine.

Recently, I have problems with the touchpad. I can't get the pointer arrow to go where I want it. When I do it, it moves all around and I can see it shake on the screen. I can't scroll upwards or downwards with my two fingers. When I try this, I'm split applications that are open. Any suggestions?
Restart your computer, hold down the option/alt - P - R keys command before the gray screen appears. Continue until you hear the startup chime for the second time.
Try a SMC reset. Article covers when necessary, but this will not affect anything.
